Can't install FCP 5

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and was getting ready to install FCP 5 (and later upgrade to 6),
but when I click on the installation icon I get this message:
" You can't ope the application Final Cut Studio.mpkg because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported. "
I was not expecting this since I had FCP installed in my old computer which is also an intel based MacBook Pro (2007).
Why am I getting this message? My system requirements are good.
Any way around this?
Thanks!!

You don't need to install FCP 5 before FCP 6. Everything you need is on the FCS2 install disc. All you need is the serial number from FCP 5.
That said, you still can't install it on Lion unless you install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 6 Snow Leo disc first.

  • Can't install FCP on my new MacBook Pro

I just realize that I can't install FCP on my brand new Macbook Pro. Does anyone knows of any solution that would let me install FCP. According to the notes FCP will not install on Intel Core Processors.

It would be useful if you -
    A. told us what version of FCP/FCS you are trying to install
    B. told us the error messages you received
In the meantime, Final Cut Pro 5.0 and earlier are not supported on intel macs. Time to upgrade. If you have a regular retail version of FCP, the upgrade price is $299. Academic and Not For Resale versions do not qualify for the upgrade.

  • New Mac Pro with Lion and can't install FCP.

I got a new Mac Pro with Lion and can't install FCP that worked fine in SL.  Is it not compatible?  Is it really a PowerPC program???  I'm a videographer and rely on this software and to spend $300 to continue to use it after spending a lot more for this software 4 years ago!  Tell me this is not the case and there is a solution to installing FCP.

How to run FCP 6 (FCS 2) under Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 (FCS 2) is a PPC app. The Programs themselves are Intel. If your trying to install FCP 6 (FCS 2) this work-around will work...
First you need to install Rosetta from your Snow Leopard OS installation disc:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/27987.html
After doing that you can install FCP 6 (FCS 2). Remember, after installing FCP 6 (FCS 2) you need to apply the updates. This has been discuss many times in the Final Cut Studio forum.
If your trying to install FCP version 5.1 (FCS 1) (a PPC app) and below your out of luck....

  • How many times can you install FCP?

Hello everyone, new to the forums here. I've searched throught he forums but couldnt find an answer to my question.
I'm in the middle of installing Final Cut Studio 2 (waiting to put in the next disc) when my buddy came over and mentioned that you could only install FCP one time and never install it again on any other computer. This worries me because in January I was going to get a new Mac Pro and un-install FC from my Macbook Pro so I could use it on the new computer. Is this possible? Or once I install this on my laptop is it permanent?
Thanks in advance for the help

Ok so you can install it on as many machines as you like but can only use (or have one activated through registering) one at a time. I know this is a touchy subject with piracy and all, but I thought it would just be rediculous if I installed this on my laptop, and 6 months down the line wanted to install it on another computer that I own.

  • Replacing macbook with pro, can I install FCP again?

I'm on the verge of buying a new Macbook Pro to replace my dying Macbook, but need to know if I'll have to buy a new copy of Final Cut as well. The included documentation states that Final Cut Studio 2 can be installed on 1 laptop and 1 desktop, and I understand that one serial can't be used twice simultaneously on the same network, but is it not possible to install it for a second time on a new laptop instead? I'm not trying to trick the software or anything, it just seems ridiculous that I would have to buy a whole new copy of an incredibly expensive package just because my computer needs to be replaced. Everywhere I look people reiterate the "1 laptop and 1 desktop" allowance in the terms of agreement, but I can't tell if that's semantic or if the software actually determines what kind of computer it's being used on and communicates with a database.
Thanks for any advice! Having to re-purchase the whole studio would be both infuriating and financially debilitating.

If you are getting rid of your old macbook, then why would you not be able to install on a new one, as long as you delete it from you old macbook if you re-sell it.
I'd be more worried about compatibility... Will FCP Studio 2 be compatible with a new Mac Book, I'm not sure... From a quick search I did, it seems to crash with Snow Leopard...
You may need to purchase an upgrade. And should you purchase an upgrade, don't install the old version first, just have the serial # ready.

  • How can I install fcp back to my G5

I have one project to finish by the end of this week, but my G5 is too big to carry to library, so I borrowed my sister's macpro notebook and install my FCP 5, it edited the project today, but when I got home want to edit the rest from my G5, FCP doesn't work anymore, and no reason can't laugh at all, and I deleted FCP from the notebook and reinstalled many time to my G5, still, no result.... what should I do?

See this Apple Best Practices Guide, about half way down the page:

  • Can't install FCP trial

  • Can't install FCP

I just purchased a new computer (2.8ghz) and also purchased Final Cut studio 2 (upgrade from FCS). the install quits because the "serial number is not correct"
years back, I purchased FCPHD and then at a later date purchased Final Cut studio
so I've tried the newest serial number from FCstudio2 and also the other ones mentioned.
    Can anyone help me?
note: I'm trying to install on the new computer straight from Final Cut Studio2 disc (without any other FC installations on this computer)
    thanks inadvance!

That one always screwed me up too .. as I updated to Studio from FC'1 .. my original FC came with two serial numbers .. the original one you need has 10 separate sequence's .. My original begin's with B-373 etc. There is another serial # it came with .. but is much shorter, like 5-6 sequence's .. took me awhile to find that when I upgraded ...

  • HELP!!!Can't install FCP on my MBP

    Good Day All,
I currently bought a new Mac Book Pro, it has an I7 processor, 8GB of RAM and 120GB Solid State Hard Drive.
Now, I have an old Final Cut Studio Version 5...
In my old Mac Book Pro I was able to install it now problem, now it's telling me I don't have the hardware to make it work.
    Help PLS!!!
    Thanks in Advance!

I see...Sorry...just one last question..for learning purposes...My old MBP was an Intel Core 2 Duo. It's still an Intel yet I was able to install it on that.
    What changed?
    Thank you for your Assistance!

  • ***Can't install FCP on my new MacBookPro

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and rather than migrate anything from my old PowerPC Mac, decided to re-install all my apps. The problem is, when I pop my FC Studio 2 install disc into my MBP, the finder window briefly comes up and then disappears. When I double-click on the DVD icon on the desktop it happens again, never allowing me to get to the icon to install FC Studio 2.
I tried popping it into my iMac and the finder window came up perfectly with the icon that I need to double-click on to install...
So what's happening here? Why won't my MBP recognize my FC Studio 2 install DVD?
    Thanks in advance.

Just by chance are you running Parallels? If you have Parallels open and running Windows, it controls the DVD drive and on the Mac side the DVD appears to be not working. If this is the case I would suggest you quit Parallels and complete your installation.
None of our machines are running Parrellels.

  • Install FCP HD on new Quad G5

I just recieved my new Quad G5 and am having problems installing FCP4 HD.
Originally I started with FCP1.25 on my G4 then bought all the upgrades. Now I can't install FCP 1.25 to begin the upgrade process again on the new machine. Installing the OS9 support module on the G5 lets me install FCP 1.2.5 but not start it to enter the original serial number.
After installing FCP 4 and trying To open the app I get a message that hardware or software is missing (I am presumming they mean the original FCP 1.2.5 and its serial number)
    Any sugesstions?

    You're right, it's not funny it's silly.
If I'd just spent 4 or 5 grand on a new computer and my 1 year old version of FCP 4.5 wouldn't install, I'd be a little upset. Especially since it's a fix that Apple won't tell you about or provide themselves. Instead, you have to inquire here to get an answer from people who want to help, but who aren't even sure they should answer in case it violates the Terms of Use.
When I bought my 1st generation dual G5 I didn't even think to ask if FCP 4.5 would run on it (negligence on my part, perhaps) but I'd bet the farm that the majority of Apple Store employees would not have known to tell me if it wouldn't.
Sorry, but it's the silliest thing I've heard since Apple told me that if I wanted to install FCP 3 on my PB, I couldn't use the upgrade disks I'd purchased, I'd have to buy the full OS X version. Why? To circumvent the fact that the PB was not built to boot in OS9 which was required to install the original FCP software.

  • Install FCP on multiple Macs?

Can I install FCP (from App Store) on the Macs of other colleagues in the office?
I just bought FCP, as directed by my employer and I need to allow others, in the studio, to work on projects using this software. Can we work using FCP at the same time? I know it's possible for CS and all other applications previously installed from disk.

If the employer directed you to purchase the App, presumably the employer paid for it? If so, as long as the same Apple ID is used in the AppStore, FCP X can be installed on (I understand) up to five macs. The only doubt in my mind is because some people claim it's up to eight macs).

  • HT4480 I have redemption codes for FCP from my university - how many machines can I install on?

I have redemption codes for FCP from my university - how many machines can I install on?

Do you have these codes because this will be your app? Or is this a "loan" from the school to install on your machine? Do you use your own Apple ID to redeem the code and install the app?
If it is your app, then you may install it on as many Macs as you own or have in your control.

  • Can I install Final Cut Studio 3.0 after already having FCP X?

I have already installed FCP X on one of my computers.  I need to install Final Cut Studio 3.0 on the same computer now.
When I tried to install, I get the selection screen and Final Cut is ghosted out and unavailable.
Is there a way around this?  I know FCP X can co-exist with Final Cut Studio 3.0 if it's installed afterward, but I need to know if I can install Final Cut Studio after FCP X which I imagine is a fairly rare situation.
I'm on Lion -- in case that matters.
    _Matt_

I'm not positive, but I believe that FCPX installer is aware of FCS. If you intsall FCPX and FCS is already on your computer, the FCPX installer will move FCS into a folder inside Applications. I'm sure FCS installer is not aware of the existance of FCPX.
I would guess that you would have to uninstall FCPX, install FCS and then, if you wanted, re-install FCPX, using the App Store.
I have not actually done this, but I'm guessing that having FCPX already on your computer is what's causing issues with the FCS installer.
