Can't install for BAFFLING reason!

Hi there,
I am trying to help a friend install FCP Studio 6 on his PowerMac G4 laptop. He's in 10.4.10 and has 35 gigs of space available for the installation (we are not going to install anything but Final Cut Pro.) But when he puts in the installation disc it says a newer version of the program already exists and FCP is grayed out and not choosable to install.
There is no Final Cut Pro on the hard drive! Very very strange. Can anyone help?

This is only the third application he has installed on his computer, the first being Logic Studio. I wonder if there is a conflict with that studio...?

If you can receive mail and your connection to your ISP is otherwise working, but cannot send mail, then your SMTP settings are incorrect; the SMTP server port is wrong, your SSL setting is wrong, or the username or password credentials don't match what the ISP has, or your attempted accesses are being blocked or your ISP SMTP server is offline.
And in general, don't use port 25 for your outbound mail, unless your ISP specifically requires that; these days, that port is best left to communications between mail servers and (usually) not used by any mail clients.

I wouldn't try to install Photoshop on anything else other than the boot partition - or any application for that matter. Photoshop writes a number of Library files, etc., to the boot drive and there's no sense in playing Russian Roulette with trying to install the application on a non-bootable partition. If you're running out of space on the boot partition I would recommend trying to reclaim some of that space or simply buying a larger capacity drive.

Can't install for all users / possibly permissions issue?

Ok here's the scenario...
I have a citrix server running a Visual Studio application
that has a browser component that needs to load a page that has
flash on it. (mouthfull lol.)
I've logged in as an administrator, and installed the latest
version of flash (uninstalling the previous version first.)
If I go to this page on the server:

it tells me flash is working great and is the latest version.
When I'm on the server, (logged in as myself) and I run the
application, everything works fine.
So then I try it through citrix (which is sort of like a
remote desktop for those that don't know) and log in as myself
again, and everything works fine.
But when other users log in... either through citrix, or
directly to the server, they get the message that flash isn't
installed, and they can't install it because they're not
administrators.
so... obviously I can't make all of my users
administrators... is there another fix you guys can think of?

Flash Player is no longer supported on OS X 10.5.8. The last supported version is 10.3.83.90, which is available for download from the Archived Flash Player versions page. However, many sites require a newer version of Flash Player, and 10.3.183.90 was released July 9, 2013, which means it doesn't contain any security updates released since that date.
If your system is capable (e.g. Intel-based, sufficient RAM, etc), I recommend upgrading to OS X 10.6, which will enable you to install the latest version of Flash Player. The upgrade disk costs $19.99 from the Apple store. Information on this is rampant on the web. Simply search for 'upgrade OS X 10.5.8' and you'll get a bunch of search results on this topic.

Just got son iPod touch and want to be able to FaceTime with him. Created yahoo account but still doesn't work. I can FaceTime with other iPhone users fine. What is the problem? When I try to connect get possible phishing site error.

Apps you purchase from the Mac App Store can only run on the Mac OS X.
Apps purchased from the iTunes store run on iOS based devices such as your iPod.
In other words, you can't run the game for your Mac then copy it to your iPod. Two differenct operating systems.

Airport Extreme: Can't Print for some reason

While trying to set up my Airport Extreme, and trying to get my computer to print to my printer it's connected to (my computer reads the printer just fine) then it gives me the error message, "An error occurred communicating with the selected base station," when I try to set things up on my Airport Setup Assistant. Please help! Do I HAVE to hook the printer or Airport Extreme up to a computer in order to have it work? Or can it just be plugged into the router, and the printer plugged into the usb jack in the back of the AE? There is one light in the middle of the AE that is lit, and that's about it... Can't stack for some reason

I am using a new iMac, 2.8Ghz, 4GB Ram, fully updated Mac OSX 10.5.1. I have a new copy of Lightroom 1.3, as fully updated as it will get.
I can't get Lightroom to stack photos. Why? I select several photos, in either the grid or the filmstrip, then hit command-G. The computer makes a little "bonk" noise, and nothing else happens. If I check the menu bar (Photo > Stacking > Group Into Stack), all the options under the Stacking heading are greyed out. What gives?
It doesn't seem to be affected by what photos I select, or what library I am in. Nothing ever works. Any clues? Thanks!

Hey, I'm in my iTunes and I download a lot and haven't had this problem before but when I went to download a song it started to download and then just stopped and says 'download error. Tap to retry' so I did and every time I try 'unable to download' help?

Can't podcast for some reason.

I got it working yesterday, but now podcasts don't appear in Library. Even the podcast file is gone. I can click Advanced but the subscribe button is grey and unaccessible.

I think I figured it out.

I used to be able to use Ctrl+click to open links in new tabs. I can't anymore for no reason.

It's two days now. Yes, I have Tab Mix Plus but I've reset it's settings and the problem has not come from that add-on.

apparently its a compatibility bug between greasemonkey and tab mix plus. If you have both those installed, the fix is to download the latest build of greasemonkey, 0.9.11, here:

Whoever told you that was misinformed or lying. Those applications are sold separately for the iOS platform and the Mac platform.
Go to the Mac App Store to purchase Pages and Numbers for your Mac. They're $20 each. If you are running an older version of Mac OS X that can't use the Mac App Store, you can purchase install media from Apple.

Firefox crashes for unknown reason lately, so I removed it and reinstalled it. How can I put my Favorites (bookmarks) back into the newly installed FireFox???

Firefox crashes a few times when I was on Facebook and with email, also watching dramas online. Most of the time due to Adobe Flash and I did submit crash report. Later it crashes for unknown reason while I have email and Facebook on different tabs -- when I was on the tab of email, it looks system hang and not responding. This happened to my laptop that uses Windows Vista as I noticed. I don't remember it ever happens to my desktop that uses Windows XP.
It's pretty annoying of such known crash, but before removing Firefox, I did try to update all add-ons or plugins and it looks like doesn't work out. After updating for couple times and it still crashed like that, I removed Firefox and reinstall it.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If it gets far enough to reject your serial number, it won't help to download it. It must have installed ok.
What is the message you get (DON'T tell us the serial number!!)?
Does it mention a "qualifying product" by any chance?
