Can't install from net-install usb image with ppp on eee

Hi forum,
l downloaded the latest net-install image for usb, set that up and booted into my 900a EEE and ran /arch/setup. I skipped the network part and setup ppp with a usb-serial cable and ran pon <isp> to connect. Selected the mirror and so on until I clicked on Select Package. "Pacman prep failed" it said, look at tty7. There it said "failed retrieving file core.db.gz from <mirror>"..."transient resolver failure". So I clicked OK, and it put me in a window where it said "Package selection is split into two stages etc" OK. Now I was put in a window where it said "Select Package Group DO NOT DESELECT" and there was this "[*] base ^", selected. I did not deselect. OK. Here I was dropped to the prompt with the message
ERROR: ask_checklist makes sense if you specify 1 thing (tag, item and ON/OFF switch)
I've gone through the process several times, choosing 4 different mirrors, and deselecting that thing that said, DO NOT DESELECT with the same outcome.
Can someone please help? Is there perhaps a min speed at which net-install won't work? I'm way down there at ~3 kb/s.
Buce

HI.Tried the link above production premium is only available in French and German no English files.
BUT I got it right.
MAIN PROBLEM:ENCORE didn't want to burn, write, create folder or image. Not the DVD writer error.
If you have tried everything else suggested THEN:
Adobe forum: uninstall and re-install. ONE slight problem not mentioned any uninstalling or format of PC or adobe software.YOU MUST DEACTIVATE the product first.
1. Deactivate and un-install all cs6
2. Download and use the adobe cleaner Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 Point 3 and choose OS-Run it .
3.Clean all
4.Run disk and system file clean up.Restart PC.
5.Let system clean run. Once logged in. Run CC cleaner again. BUT NOW select  clean adobe credentials.
6.Restart again.
7.Insert your CS6 production premium disc and TADA! It worked for me.
If this doesn't work go to adobe, sign in,choose a certain product premiere, after effects etc, choose installing or activation, and click contact us. There should be an option of CHAT to us not just the search forum.
Explain that you can't install from disc and ask to see your license and serial number if it can be deactivated and then try activate again.
Not the most elegant but efficient for me. I spent 2 days on this searching, phoning, chatting, restarting
YET I'm still stuck by ENCORE not burning to disc LOL! So actually was all in vain but atleast if you have bad disc and serial number issues this could shed some like.
Thanks for all who helped

How I can't boot from OS install USB drive, Mac Mini Model 1176

Thank you Eustace Mendis for your answer.
I rebooted the Mac Mini holding the Option key down but it doesn't work. I used an USB drive with O.s 10.7 from Apple that I have used previuosly with other computers and I also tried with a CD install O.S 10.6
It seems that the Mac Mini can't recognize the keyboard inputs and I tried with 3 different keyboards but still didn't work.
I also reset the SMC and PRAM but I had no luck. Any clues?

What model is the MBP? Did it come with OS 10.6 or a later OS? Is the install DVD one that came with it or something else?
You can't run an OS older than Mac on it.
But if came with 10.6 installed & you have the system discs, you should be able to erase the drive & reinstall the original OS.

  • Can I downgrade from pre-installed Lion to Snow Lepoard on Late 2011 MBP i7 2.4?

I've purchased a MacBook Pro Quad-Core i7 2.4 with pre-installed Lion (no installation DVD's included), but, unfortunately, found out that a big number of audio software doesn't run natively and malfunctions with this version of OS, meanwhile they worked flawlessly on my previous MacBook using Snow Leopard.
The question is: can I downgrade from pre-installed Lion to Snow Lepoard on Late 2011 MBP i7 2.4?

Thanks a lot for your reply. I ran into those numerous techy ways of downgrading, but I've found none addressing my particular model (I think I read something about 15", while mine is 17" and sometime it does make difference - because Apple love to keep secrets about what's inside). Since i've got zellions of audio plugins install, I'm trying to make sure that messing around with systems will lead to some fruitful result. So the new question: is there a way to make sure (I haven't found any tech spec threads naming the borderline between a "working variant" and "no-use-trying" variant) - is that just a matter of chance and doing it at one own risk, or is there still a way to make surefire decision?

  • Allow this application to be installed from the install software task sequence action without being deployed

What functionality does this setting enable when checked?  The only thing I find in product documentation (CM2012_Web.chm, 2/1/2014) states:
For applications to be installed by using a dynamic variable list, the following setting must be enabled on the
General tab of the application’s Properties dialog box:
Allow this application to be installed from the Install Application task sequence action instead of deploying manually
Note - My ConfigMgr 2012 R2 CU1 Application Properties now displays a tab labeled "General Information".  I do not find one labeled "General".  The configuration setting also reads "Allow this application to be installed
from the install software task sequence action without being deployed" instead of "Allow this application to be installed from the Install Application task sequence action instead of deploying manually"
Is application installation using a dynamic variable list the only time this configuration setting is used and functions?

Yes, you only have to check that when using the dynamic variable list(s).

I took a video with my iphone5 and I don't see it on my iPad. Can videos go from one device to another with iCloud?

No.  Photo stream only streams photos, not videos.  To transfer videos between your devices you can either import them to iTunes and sync them, or (more conveniently) use an app like PhotoSync or Bump.

  • I can not boot from DVD or USB to install

I have a 27 in iMac with i7 processor. For reasons I wont get into (lets just assume I have the right reason) I want to do a complete fresh install of Snow Leopard and start completely over.
When I use OPT to select the SL DVD to boot, all I get is the apple logo, no spinning wheel, i let it sit that way all night still didnt work. If I force boot the SL DVD using C, same thing. So I tried formatting an external USB hard drive as a GUID drive and had the install residing on there, when I use OPT when booting the USB is not an option, nor is is listed in startup disks either.
I can not do a fresh install, and i have followed loads of tutorials online, but my DVD never does boot.

You need the discs for your computer. No other discs will work.
The retail copy of 10.6.0 doesn't have the necessary drivers for your computer, nor does 10.5. Your computer should have shipped with 10.6.1.
I think the inability to boot from USB is due to an invalid operating system being installed on the drive.

  • Can't boot from Recovery or USB Install Drive

    Hi Folks,
My (mid-2011) MacBook Pro [Mavericks (10.9)] is not booting up – not matter what I try.
I've tried booting into Recovery (using command-R), Internet Recovery, and tonight I finally created a bootable USB install drive – no luck there either (pressing option to get to the startup disk manager). I can select which drive I want to boot from, but after selecting the USB drive and clicking on the arrow, I get to the gray apple screen (with the spinning progress wheel), and then it just stalls on a blank light gray screen (and the fans spin up). I've waited up to 45 minutes in this state, still nothing.
The same thing happens when I try to boot normally. I have Filevault 2 enabled, so I get to the user account screen – but after selecting my account, the machine goes from the gray apple startup screen to the blank gray screen and hangs.
I've tried resetting the NVRAM, booting from an install CD, etc., etc., and nada.
Does anyone have any advice where to go from here? I had hoped the USB install drive would be the answer, but for whatever reason, I'm simply having no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated – this is my main rig and I can't afford to have it down for much longer…
    Thanks so much!

What install "CD"?? (sure it's not a DVD disc) did you try.
Not sure it is related to the Filevault system but if you can't get the Recovery HD partition to boot that may be caused by having Filevault enabled.
Have you tried the Real Online Internet Recovery system? Hold down the Command + Option/Alt + r keys at startup and keep holding them down until you see a globe on the screen. If after you see the globe, or you never get a globe on the screen, and you get that same Grey color on the screen then you more than likely have a hardware problem. You should make an Appointment with your local Apple store Genius Bar for your Mac to be properly diagnosed.

  • Can't install from recovery or USB !!!

I went throught the extra tie to download the recovery assistant and put the recovory on a USB stick.. I also have the Recovery partiion!  But no matter what I do it always downloads the install from the internet!  All 4GB of it !!!  Why bother with a recovery partition or USB if you dont use them !!! This just wastes my time as I wait for something to download that I have on DISK !!  Yes I held the option key and I selected the USB recovery,,,, and then it asked for my password and started dowbloading!
APPLE you officiallly ****** me off with this!   FIx it !!!   I dont have the time to wait for a 4gb download! Why bother with the recovery partition and USB ?? you dont ever use them!!  Just tell everyone you will always download it from the internet.. free up 4 hours of your day to do this!
So yhou want a question??   here it is..   How do you install the OS without downloading it from the internet?????????

After DLing the installer once, quit it, and then save a copy of this ill-designed thing that stupidly deletes itself during the installation process. Then, you can rerun it w/o needing the Internet and wasting bandwidth, time, and electricity.

  • Installing from an Existing ISO Image

I would like to install and configure an Arch Linux system inside a virtual machine and then deploy that image to my laptop as a complete, working system. Is this at all possible? I saw things on the wiki about installing from an existing Linux installation that pointed suggestively in the direction I wanted to go, but it’s not clear to me whether this is doable or how to go about it.
Archiso allows one to create custom bootable media, sure, but, as I understand it, you have to know exactly which packages you want beforehand. You can’t run the system and tinker with it before deploying. Would it make sense to configure the system in a virtual machine and then use that VM’s package list and /etc directory with archiso to make the custom system?

Hi, welcome to Arch. Installing Arch from an existing installation means, if you have Ubuntu installed and want to install Arch from that installation.
If you want to use a VM as your host system, then you need to clone/image the system and restore that image to your host, you can use clonezilla for that.
I use archiso almost on a daily basis, it's very handy to try new things, e.g. a completely different setup from the one you have now. It's no problem to use the package list you made for archiso, for your future system.
I don't see a problem in which packages you should choose beforehand, this mostly is a evolving thing, at least that's how I see it. So, if you have a working archiso, you are adjusting the configs, try it, and add the diff's to your build files, build you ISO, again try, add diff's to build files etc. etc. etc. , you get the point? Happy arching;)

  • OS X Snow Leopard install from (non-boot) USB memory stick

    oi~
just bought this second hand and after i finally got into it (the seller forgot name/password) it turns out the DVD drive is malfunctioning, i was able to watch part of a movie but it will not boot from it nor let me install from DVD. (seller is not calling me back or responding to anything i sent) bottom-line for now i can live without the DVD drive but i would like to install OS X Snow Leopard.. can i copy the DVD contents onto a 8 GB USB memory stick (using a Vista pc) and install from the USB stick ? it does not have to be bootable as i realize to do that you must use the Mac.
i also have a old(er) iMac, maybe i can use that copy copy contents (if it even reads DVD's)
    any help appreciated.. thanks.

    thanks..
i thought i put my model # in my info, it's a MB061LL/B (Apple MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 13") darn... i keep getting stuck when i think i have a solution. so copying the contents of the disc to a network pc will not work either. or, could i make the
USB stick bootable and copy contents using a old iMac ?
added: i might be able to borrow a MacBook w/ a working DVD player.. is it a fairly quick and painless process to create a bootable USB stick + put OS X Snow Leopard on it ? (i'm rusty when it comes to Mac..)

  • Can I boot from tiger install disk without wiping my hard drive?

I have an old mac install disk with tiger on it and I want to be able to boot from it. Can I do that without damaging my hard drive?

You can boot from it, but if you continue through without stopping eventually it will try to install Tiger. However, if you want to install Tiger on a USB flash drive or HDD, then when you arrive at the screen for selecting a Target device, be sure to select the USB device before clicking on the Install button.
If the USB device has not been properly partitioned and formatted already, then be sure you do this:
    Clean Install of OS X
         1. Boot the computer using the Tiger Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the USB drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
If you wish you can download any updates using Software Update preference panel.

  • CD/DVD Install from an external usb drive

Is there any version of Solaris 10 (x86) or a download tool or driver that would enable me to install the OS from an external usb CD/DVD drive?
My internal CD/DVD drive on my older SONY laptop has gone bad and SONY support has been less than helpful in providing me any support for a replacement.

Not (yet?) with Solaris 10 x86, but it might work with current Solaris Express x86

    But I've never tested this.
