Can't install i-tunes....problem says...system not modified.....not privileges to access this directory
I had to uninstall my iTunes.....Can't install again...tried 3 times and each time messages read: 1. Systam has not been modified. 2. Installer has insufficient privilages to access this directory; C:\Program Files\iTunes 3. Log on as administrator or contact your administrator
Thanks. Jankeys
It appears that your user account on your Windows machine is not the system administrator. You are using a limited account most likely.
iTunes will have some issues if used under a limited account.
Go into: Start > Control Panel > Users
See which account is listed as the system administrator. Login to that account and you can promote your main account to system admin from there. Restart your computer if this worked.
If there isn't a system admin listed, there may be parental control software installed preventing you from accessing these settings.
Try installing any other program. (web browsers are good to try cause they are free)
If you are denied access to installing other programs, your user account is not system admin.

I am trying to install iTunes 10.7 and keep getting this error message (I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit):
"The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\common\files\apple\MobileDeviceSupport\Sync Services\....\Windows"
There seem to be other threads that deal with other permission errors, those fixes did not work for this.
ThanksThat one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
And im using the administration account on my sony vaio laptop. Windows 7.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

i can't update my itunes and it shows me this message: The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:/program files/itunes. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator
Hello PamelaFox14,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you need to log in as the administrator to update the iTunes application properly.
Take a look at this article named:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
This section in particular:
1. Make sure you have administrator account access
To install iTunes or QuickTime software, you need to be logged in as an administrator on the computer. If you're not sure if you have administrator account access, you may find this Microsoft article helpful:

Otherwise, refer to the Help documentation from Microsoft, contact your IT department, or visitsupport.microsoft.com for more information.
All the best,

I am unable to install the newer version of itunes. I have no problem downloading but when it starts to install I get an error message that the installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\iTunes
I am the administrator but it doesn't recognize it

Re: I cannot update my iTunes with"error occurred while installing updates" -
I've had iTunes on my PC forever. Because recent updates have aborted with the message:"The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory... Log on as administrator," I am now attempting to download a fresh copy from the Apple website. Same message! I am logged on as administrator. I can download, then attempt to run by right-clicking on the installer and selecting, "Run as administrator" but that gets me only to the same point (and message) as attempting to install directly from the internet. I've never seen this message with any other download. What gives?
What's the precise name of the directory being mentioned? (Give the full file path, please.)

This is a desktop computer with Windows 8. Any help is appreciated.
Well, did you log in as the administrator. Win 8.1 may also have an disabled Administrator account like Win 7 that you may have to activate, but in most cases it is not necessary. You should disable anti-virus during the install. From you login (as long as you are an administrator) you may be able to right click on the install file and say run as administrator.

I am the administrator so I don't know what needs to be changed to fix this problem.

Re: I cannot update my iTunes with"error occurred while installing updates" -
I've been working on trying to itunes up all morning and it refuses to open. I uninstalled it with hopes to reinstall buuuut no. I've been shuting my computer on and off and trying to repair itunes but NOTHING HAPPENS!! Plus, there is nothing on any of these forums that works. I love itunes, but this is ridiculous...
Apple has an FAQ for troubleshooting an install and how to manually uninstall and clean up iTunes - which can happen if you had an older iTunes for instance and upgraded.
www.apple.com/support/itunes
Consider listing what OS you have - iTunes has worked but is not installing properly on the Windows 8 Pro release it seems. Not a huge suprise, though it did work in the previews and even the trial edition for Enterprise. -

Problems w/ 9.0.3 Insufficient privileges to access my destination drive
After I installed it today , i am no longer able to run itunes. I am logged in as the administrator and I have all of windows latest updates. I am stumped, If anyone can help me to get back on track please do. The exact message is (The installer has insufficient privileges to access this Directory: G:\Matt's Music\CD Configuration. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator. Retry or Cancel) Any and all help would be much appreciated.
Select the disk you're trying to back the mail up to and look at the disk's format in the Finder's Get Info window; if it is listed as Windows NT Filesystem, you will need to use the Disk Utility to erase the disk before you can write to it. When reformatting the disk, you should choose MS-DOS if you need to use it with PCs, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) if you don't. If it is in another format, check the box to ignore ownership on the volume if it is present.
