two things to try: either click the green "zoom" bottom at the topLeft of the window in the title bar, or go to your System Prefs and then Displays, and increase the resolution that is used

You can also use the OS X Lion installer from the Mac App Store to create an external bootable drive, complete with a Recovery HD partition. See this article for more details. This approach will, at least, create a bootable drive with Recovery HD which you can carry with you in case you need to use Internet Restore or make use of the other utilities Recovery HD provides.

  • HT201210 hello, can't install itunes because files are missing when downloaded, please help?

Hello,Please help me i had an update the other day.when i downloaded it ,it basically stuffed my whole itunes program.I am unable to access anything in relation to my itunes.I have uninstalled itunes several times with no joy.And always comes up missing files can't install.cant reinstall this great program and i am missing playing all of my music videos and music.Thankyou in this matter.I have windows vista home premium.

When I go to install itunes+quicktime it says "A newer version of quicktime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of quicktime is installed". Even though quicktime is not installed on my computer because I had uninstalled it. When I've tried to download quicktime by itself. There's a box that pop up's wanting the quicktime.msi install package or a alternate path. I found 2 quicktime.msi. One is from '08 version 7.4.5 the other from '10 version 7.6.9. When I've tried to repair the 7.6.9 it says "this action is only valid for products that are currently installed".
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25 2010. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • When I try to put the icon in the applications folder, it says it can't install it because this file is in use: libsoftokn3.dylib. Ihave closed all apps and I have no idea what this is.

When I try to put the updated Firefox icon into my applications folder, I see this message:
The operation can’t be completed because the item “libsoftokn3.dylib” is in use.
I have closed all apps and don't understand what this refers to.
    Thanks!

  • I installed Mac Security before I realized that it was a scam.  Now I can't remove it because "it is open" and I can't close it.

I was taken in by the Mac Security trojan horse.  I installed it, but I did not register it because it asked for money.  Now I can't get it off my computer.  When I want to put it in the trash, it says that the program is in use.  Also, I am receiving **** sites because of this.  What should I do?

Joseph's idea is correct but incomplete. After force quitting Macdefender in Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) then you need to:
    Remove the program.
Go to the /Applications folder and move the program to the trash (it should likewise be called "MacDefender," "Mac Security," or "Mac Protector"). Also locate the installer file (likely in your Downloads directory, or wherever you have Safari store downloaded items) and move it to the trash as well. When you have done this, empty the trash.
    Remove references to the program.
So far the program is launched at log-in by the system's "Login Items" feature. Go to the "Accounts" system preferences and choose your account name. Then go to the "Login Items" tab and remove any reference to the software from that list.
Thank CNET for Steps 1 & 2 above. I go them from Malware Removal.

  • When I try to install latest update it tells me it can't do so because Firefox is open, even though it's not - any suggestions?

When i try and install the latest update via the Wizard I get as far as setup type when it tells me that Firefox must be closed to proceed with installation - even though that window is the only thing open on the PC. I've never had any issues with installing updates before, any ideas?

  • Can't save file because it is open

When I try to save a file that I've been working on to the folder from which I got it I sometimes get the error that it cannot be saved because the file is already open or in use.  This can happen whether or not I use a plug in during editing or not.  I have to rename the file in order to save it.  It only seems to happen with jpeg files.   OSX MacPro
    Any ideas?

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod/iPhone/iPad on the iOS device in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected or cellular data is on and connected for, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or continue to show off-line.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iOS device and have the device play a sound via iCloud.

    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the device and report to police and carrier if iPhone or cellular iPad
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the erase (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 or later on the device. With iOS 7 or later, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

  • Can't install itunes because of quicktime

My itouch won't register with itunes. A pop up for 10.1 came up, so I figured that was the problem. I started the download, but then I got two errors pertaining to quicktime. A box searching for the quicktime.msi destination, and "older version cannot be removed." I've tried downloading manually, it doesn't work. I've tried deleting both programs, STILL doesn't work. I've done a system restore - nothing works. I have no idea how to get itunes working again. I can't charge my itouch because it won't register. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.

Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time? If so, are you able to launch iTunes without the error message?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Can't install Photoshop because of "not enough space" error

When I try to install Photoshop CS4 it tells me that my chosen path does not have the sufficient amount of space available when it clearly does (4.2gb compared to the 1.2gb needed).
Does anybody know why or how to fix this issue ?
    thanks

It is time to do a major housecleaning. I'd archive a ton of "stuff," and also remove any unused programs. Once done, defrag your C:\, if you have room to do so. You can use the Windows defrag utility, or a program like Diskeeper.
Now, if you ONLY have a C:\, and one that is full, you will have issues with Scratch Disk space. If that is the case, you will want to add at least one more HDD. These are cheap today, and one can add a couple of 1TB ATA-300's for less than US$200. Actually, one can add two 1.5TB ATA-300's for under that price!
I agree completely with Curt, that one should never fill a HDD beyond about 75%. Trouble can ensue.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
