Can't install iPod updater or Quick Time

If I try install iPod updater I get error message: "-1608: Unable to Create InstallDriver Instance" or "-1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Run Time"
What Can I do? I have tested http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888019 and http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108440

Today, when I connected my iPod to my computer, iTunes indicated that the iPod service could not be started and to reinstall iPod and iTunes. I uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, but when I tried to uninstall iPod, the uninstall wizard doesn't even show up (click remove and nothing happens). I tried installing iPod updater 2006-01-10, but I get:
1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance.
Return code: -2147024894
I followed all of the steps outlined in the fix: empty temp dir, remove InstallShield 8 driver, reinstall InstallShield 8 driver, run Windows Installer CleanUp tool. I still get the same error when trying to install iPodSetup.exe (2006-01-10). I still cannot remove iPod 2005-10-12. The Installer CleanUp tool won't cleanup 'iPod 2005-10-12' (MSICUU Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument'). I have also tried (1) starting the iPodService in windows services, but it won't start, and (2) deleting the C:\Program Files\iPod directory. Nothing works.

  • I can't install iPod updater 1.2

I just downloaded iTunes 7.0 and there was a pop-up asking me to install iPod Update but when I clicked 'Install' my iPod seemed to eject itself and showed main menu on the screen instead of 'Do not disconnect'.
Few sec later on the window, it said that iPod couldn't be updated. An unknown error has occurred (1417)!?
    What was that about?
And one more question, when you click eject iPod then you want to add some more songs, you quit iTunes and open it again, is iPod suppossed to respond and show that it's connecting with the iTunes or it's just dead and you have to pull the plug then plug in again!? Because lately mine doesn't seem to have any respond after ejecting, it used to, anyway.
    Help!!!
    Thanks

Hi. Here is what I found on a forum. I had the exact same problem. I tried it and it works.

Forum Regular Hi There, i had the same issues and followed these instructions. They worked for me so, im hoping they will work for you.
1)Plug in your iPod and wait for iTunes to tell you an update for it is available
2)Click the Install button on that dialog and keep an eye on your iPod
3)When your iPod screen switches from the flashing "Do Not Disconnect" message to the Main Menu screen, unplug the iPod, wait a couple SECONDS, plug the iPod back in
4)You should notice some slow-down in the progress meter and a new dialog box should come up and tell you your iPod is being updated and to not disconnect it until the update finishes
5)That's it. Wait for the update to finish and iTunes will re-recognize it and show its new up-to-date status.

  • Can't install Ipod Updater

I have been able to download the new Ipod Updater. But when I attempt to install it, a dialogue pops up that reads "Error reading setup initialization file" with an icon of a brown box holding an iPod.
Is there a way to fix this? This is the first time I have ever updated my iPod.

I am having the same problem. I originally tried to download the Updater and then lost my internet connection before the download was completed. When attempting to download again this is the message that I receive"Error reading setup initialization file".

  • Updated to Quick Time 7 Pro but Can't view trailers

I updated to Quick Time 7 Pro and every thing looks ok when Quick Time is opened. But when I try to view movie trailers on this website it continues to tell me that I need to download Quick Time. Help.

Hmmmm. What might make sense of the combined sysmptoms is if there's an old misplced .ocx file lurking about on the system. That could trigger a update QuickTime alert when using the plugin, but not when using the Quicktime Player itself.
Let's go searching for something like that.
Open "My Computer". Go "Tools > Folder Options" and click the "View tab". Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked. OK out of the Tab.
Now open your C:\Windows\system32\ directory. What files and folders with QuickTime in the file/folder-name can you see in there?
(In a standard QuickTime installation, you should see precisely two files, QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx, and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Can't Install or update apps on iPod Touch 5g

Hi, i am having a very serious problem with my iPod. it is an iPod Touch 5th Generation, 32GB, blue. It is currently running iOS 8.2. The problem is, I can't install or update any apps. It just sits on the home screen grayed out and saying "Waiting...". It won't do anything else. I have already tried hard restarting it, along with signing out and back into the App Store. I have also tried deleting the apps and reinstalling, but it does the same thing.

  • HT5622 I have verified my Apple ID several times on my Iphone but a can not install APP updates?  The same Apple ID works fine on my Ipad for updates etc.???

I have verified my Apple ID several times on my Iphone but can not install APP updates. Everything work fine on my Ipad using same AppleID ect.?

Sign out and back into your apple id from Settings>iTunes and App stores>(Your apple ID)>Sign Out and then sign in again with the new address. Close app store from running in the background (or restart the phone if your unsure how to do this). If when trying to update any apps they are still asking for the old apple ID, delete and re-install those apps.

I can not install new update in Photoshop CC, does any one know, how I can install the new update?
Photoshop CC show me, if I look on "Help" -> Update, there is no update. But my actual license is very old....
I tried it, to do it manual. But there is also some problem.

totally agree.  at this point i could care less if "apple" supports it.  i'm not renting my ipod touch, it's mine.  i paid for it.  and i'm not asking to do anything illegal with it, all i want is to get rid of this POS ios6 and get back to being able to use my ipod touch the way it was before...working.

  • Can't install or update apps through iTunes

Seems I can't install or update apps through iTunes. It keeps giving me error messages. I the only way I can get around this is updating through the App Store app on iPod touch. I think this problem started since updating to Lion.

What are the specific error messages?

  • Can't install Security Updates [so no Safari...]

    Hello...
I'm having myriad issues with my admittedly old computer, but this one is driving me nuts. I can download the application and mount it, but then get the HD icon with a red exclamation mark, and the message:
"This volume is not supported", or something like that. I have tried several security updates, all of which should supposedly work with my operating system.
    Any ideas??
    Many thanks.

I have a boilerplate response which I'll post below. Are you using the correct security update version (PPC vs. Intel)?
    Updating
Certain steps appear to minimize the risk of an update producing problems.
Number one is to make sure you have a clone backup of your computer in case you do need to back out of it again. This is the only guaranteed way of not having to worry about the results of an update.
Some like to boot from their installer discs or an external backup and verify (and if necessary repair) their internal drives as well as drive permissions. This is done with Disk Utility. You can verify a drive while booted from the same drive but sometimes this produces spurious errors. Repairing a drive (if necessary) has to be done while booted from another disk. Permissions repair can, and is probably best, done when booted from your internal drive.

You can also go to the step of booting into safe mode to do the install.

I like to download the update onto my computer and install it from there rather than let Software Update do it. I know a few people who had problems with doing the update via software updater found a manual install to work.
    Repair permissions again afterward.
It helps to only install one update at a time and to run the computer for a while to make sure it is behaving well.
The more cautious even like to unplug third party peripherals (see [comment by BDaqua|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9040746#9040746]).
Almost all of the above steps (except backup) have been questioned as to necessity because probably many people have done successful updates without doing them. I say they can't hurt, they can very likely do good (especially if your computer isn't regularly maintained), so why not do them to be safe.

  • Can I install Driver updates?

Ok, i have installed windows xp on my imac for over 7 months now still working fine and a few days ago i installed a program called drivermax and found a few updates for my current drivers, my question is:
Can i install driver updates for my XP?
i just don't want it to cause any problems BTW, is it possible for me to get a new intel chip and work it on my IMac?

Hi ? and welcome to Discussions,
my personal approach with Driver Updates in Windows is 'never change a running system' and/or 'if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it'.
So unless I have any kind of trouble with my Windows I don't update Drivers.
BTW: I am still running the BootCamp Beta 1.1.4 Drivers
If you want to update drivers, you should consider making a backup of your BootCamp Windows before with WinClone http://www.twocanoes.com/winclone/ or at minimum set a 'System Restore Point' to which you can revert in case something goes wrong.
Nontheless you should stick with the Driver Updates Apple has provided.
BootCamp 2.0 Drivers are on the Leopard DVD and BootCamp 2.1 Drivers can be downloaded from Apple but will only install if you have installed the 2.0 drivers .
You can't 'upgrade' the Intel processor without at least losing your warranty.
Even then this is definitely a very difficult task and most likely not worth the time and money you have to invest.
    Regards
    Stefan

    Hi Tamekia,
I am sorry to hear nothing has worked yet. I have looked up some additional information and possible solutions. Follow the steps in this document to perform a level-three uninstall, register the Windows Installer Service, and then reinstall the HP software. An uninstall and reinstall of the software deletes and overwrites any of the files that might cause the error and resets the Windows Installer. HP recommends that you download the latest software from the HP Web site to remove any files that might be causing this error.
Level-three uninstall, and register the Windows Installer Service
Note: The title of this document is not specific to the issue you are experiencing or the operating system you have, but the 3 steps and instructions are what I suggest we do to resolve the issue you are experiencing.
    Hope this helps.
