Can't install iTunes 10.7 on a Win 7 Home 64 bit laptop...

I've tried numerous times and everytime it gives me the error "The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator."
This is my personal computer and I have full admin rights. I've also troubleshooted and made sure I have admin rights over the iTunes folder but I still can't proceed past that stage in the installation process. I never had this problem in the past.
Please help. Thanks.

uninstall all the apple application S/w from your pc,
Reboot it
Now download a fresh itunes from apple and try installing
Reboot it
This helped me

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Can I install iTunes in separate user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit?

    Hi,
My wife and I use different user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit. Before I go and mess things up on my computer, I wanted ask some questions:
    1) Has anyone has successfully installed iTunes to multiple user account?
    2) If so, has anyone successfully shared the same music root directory for 2 different iTune instances.
I'm thinking with iTunes very tight integration with the music files (for indexing/searching, etc), that it would be bad to have add/change/delete on the same music root from 2 independent installations.
    Experience OR opinions welcome!

) Has anyone has successfully installed iTunes to multiple user account?
You don't install the iTunes application more than once. Each user account in Windows will have its own iTunes library.
If so, has anyone successfully shared the same music root directory for 2 different iTune instances.
Many people have done so. This should help:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
Note that iTunes has no folder-watching capability, so if you add a track in one user account, the other user will have to add that new item manually, either by using the Add To Library command or dragging the item into the iTunes window. There are a couple of potential solutions from other developers, though:

  • Same problem as some others, can't install iTunes 10.6.1 on WIN 7 64-bit !

After deleting all apple components from my system, the installer each time shows the error message, that it's not able to finish the installation cause a required program doesn't work correct. The installation on the same computer (Virtual PC WIN XP 32bit) was no problem. Pleas help, if possible

the installer each time shows the error message, that it's not able to finish the installation cause a required program doesn't work correct.
Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

  • I can't install iTunes Win 7

I have a computer that has never been able to install iTunes.  It is running Win 7 Home Professional.  I have downloaded multiple versions of iTunes over the last year and I get the same error message:
This installation package could not be opened.  Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor that this is a valid windows installer package."
Does not matter if I try the 32 or 64 bit version.  Does not matter if I run as an administrator.
    Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks.

    Take a look a this these links, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1926  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/unab le-to-install-itunes-on-windows-7-64bit/842043c9-6f1c-451e-9257-940793ab6478

  • I can download but not install iTunes 10.5 on my Win 7 computer

How can I install iTunes 10.5 on my Dell Windows 7/64 bit computer?  It downloads but will not install- all kinds of error messages... AND I can't use a new iPod touch (4th gen) with iOS 5 presumably pre installed w/o 10.5 on the Windows 7 PC!!!!

Hi again! Fixed it myself, but here's what I did (in case anyone else encounters the same problem):
Control Panel > Programs and Features > Add or Remove Programs
    1. Uninstall iTunes (if you're upgrading, but if it's a fresh install, disregard this step)
    2. Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support
    3. Uninstall Apple Application Support
    4. Uninstall Bonjour
    5. Repair Apple Software Update. If you can't, try uninstalling. I couldn't uninstall or repair mine (the same error message appeared) so I used Microsoft Fixit Engine (http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall) to uninstall it.
    6. Download the iTunes installer and run it. Voila!

    Thankyou thankyou thankyou!
    Natalie.

I just tried running the Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test both in normal mode and in safe mode.  Both times it indicated a failed read test on the HDD. The last two tests also failed.  I forget what those tests were called.
I am really beginning to think I have a bad HDD and the problem just happens to be in the reserved partition where my factory system software resides.

I pulled my brains out trying to figure this bug out and I may have a solution for you.
All of it installed fine in my desktop, but a friend's laptop got the error you mentioned on quicktime, itunes, flash, officeXP and about anything else I tried to load for him.
If you look in: C:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp there will be an iTunes install log...open it in Notepad and see if it isn't exiting with a 1619 error while running msiexec.exe
If this is the case, this fix should work for you.
Seems some configurations of XP (and possibly Vista) aren't allowing full administrator rights to the account you set up when you installed XP (even though User Editor says you do have those rights.)
I read 2 MS articles and turned off simple file sharing, then gave ownership of the entire C: drive to the administrator. Logged the admin account off, logged his "admin" account in, and then gave rights to his personal directory to his account (c:\docs and settings\<username>)
Once I did that, every install that had previously errored out performed flawlessly.
    The MS articles in question:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316309 (1619 error)
    and
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308419 (how to set special permissions)
    Hope this helps!

  • Can i install itunes multiple times on one computer for multiple users?

Can i install itunes multiple times on one computer for multiple users?

Like most applications you only need to install it once for it to be available to all users. (That said it is possible to install an application and only make it available to the current user, but that's rarely needed.)

    Hi all,
I want to install the software for my first-generation ipod mini on my friend's computer, but I heard somewhere that you can only install the software on one computer and obviously I also want to be able to use it with my own computer as well. Can you install itunes software that comes with your ipod mini on as many computers as you want or only one?
    Many thanks,

Sure you can. But instead of using the (more than likely) outdated CD, see the iTunes Download Page
