Can't install iTunes 12.0 on 32-bit Windows XP

I recently successfully upgraded my iPhone to IOS 8.  When I tried to connect the phone to iTunes 11.1.5.5 on my 32-bit Windows XP laptop, I got a message that I needed to have iTunes 11.2 or higher.  Following the upgrade download link, I kept getting to the download request but never to a file save dialog.  I talked with support a couple of times, but all links they gave me to various version of iTunes did not work (either they were for 11.1.5.5 or 64-bit 12.0). I managed to find a link to 12.0 that did not specify word size, but it turned out to be a 64-bit version that would not install.
Where can I find a 32-bit version of iTunes 12.0 that works with Windows XP?

See the Further Information area of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for download advice and direct links if required.

I pulled my brains out trying to figure this bug out and I may have a solution for you.
All of it installed fine in my desktop, but a friend's laptop got the error you mentioned on quicktime, itunes, flash, officeXP and about anything else I tried to load for him.
If you look in: C:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp there will be an iTunes install log...open it in Notepad and see if it isn't exiting with a 1619 error while running msiexec.exe
If this is the case, this fix should work for you.
Seems some configurations of XP (and possibly Vista) aren't allowing full administrator rights to the account you set up when you installed XP (even though User Editor says you do have those rights.)
I read 2 MS articles and turned off simple file sharing, then gave ownership of the entire C: drive to the administrator. Logged the admin account off, logged his "admin" account in, and then gave rights to his personal directory to his account (c:\docs and settings\<username>)
Once I did that, every install that had previously errored out performed flawlessly.
    The MS articles in question:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316309 (1619 error)
    and

    Hope this helps!

WOW! That font is difficult to read. But, see if this support document helps you http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3989. Photos stream is based on date and photos more than 30 days old are removed. Photostream is designed as a temporary storage to allow you to download the photos to the computer.

  • Can't install itunes on my new laptop w/ Windows 8 64bit

So, I am trying to install the newest version of itunes on my Dell with Intel i3 Windows 8- 64 bit system.  I had itunes on my old laptop (running Windows Vista) and it worked just fine, but when I tried to install it on my new dell, I get as far as downloading (itunes64setup.exe) and after it is done downloading and I try to install it, it gives me a pop up that says something along the lines of "this app can not be installed on your system- contact software manufacturer for the correct version for your system"  I spent several hours on the phone yesterday with an apple rep and they weren't able to resolve it either.  They had my delete the itunes that I had just downloaded, turn off my internet protection and try downloading the same one again.  It downloads, it just won't install afterwards.  When that did not work either, she had me try installing the standard 32 bit version, still nothing.  Then she had me install the older itunes 9.2 to see if that would install and then I could just update it afterwards, but that would not install either after downloading.  I tried restarting my computer and then downloading it again, same issue.  I've been using the newest version of Firefox, but I tried downloading and installing it in IE.  Same issue. Tried IE w/out internet protection, same issue.  As a last resort I saved the itunes installation from my old laptop on a flash drive and tried to install it on my new laptop from the flash drive and it almost seemed like it would work, it started the installation wizard, but after a minute it stopped and said that it was a 32bit version and that I needed the 64 bit version for my system.  That is actually the farthest I had gotten with any of my tries.  It would not even get to the installation box with any of the other tries!!! If any one knows a solution for this, I would be so greatful!!! I tried the tips from past discussions and it did not resolve it.  HELP!!!

  • I can not install itunes 10.5.2 on my windows 7.

i got the new white ipiod touch and i downloaded itunes 105.2 but when i try to install it i get two errors
1)Microsoft.VC80.CTR,version="8.050727.6195"publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"pro cessorArchitecture=x86",Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800700002
2)Then it says: Service "Apple Mobile Device"(Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficent privelleges to start system services.
Then i hit it ignore and the first error pops up again and then i hit "ok". After that it says it can not continue.
I've tried everything such as using ASU(apple software updater) and using the download only and installing manually. I unistalled everything apple related and tried it fresh again and it doesnt work either. I tried saving it to my hard drive and disconnnecting from interenet and turned off all protections andi get the same excat error each time. The farthest i've gotton is when i installed it and it said i needed an apple application supporter and when i tried to install the AAS i got the same error above so it seems nothing will work. What can i do?

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.

  • Can't Install Itunes 8.2 Vista 32 bit

I have used Itunes for the past two yrs on this machine with no problems till this recent version of itunes was released. I have had nothing but problems trying to install. Running windows Vista Home...I keep reaching a point in the install and I get an error message that reads "The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: *C: \Program Files\ipod\bin\ipodService.Resources\res.lproj\iPodSerceLocalized.dll." This is my home computer, I am the only user ID, so I am the admin. To trouble shoot I have installed all microsoft updates, uninstalled all Itunes and apple software, made sure all firewall software has been turned off, and no luck. I have even tried going into programs and deleting the Itunes folder after the uninstall and I get another message saying "You need permission to perform this action". Contacted apple for support and other than suggesting I uninstal Itunes, then reinstall, they were no help and directed me to microsoft. Microsoft has pushed back and said "Itunes is 3rd party software and you must get help from apple". I'm stuck....can anyone help????

All I can say is make sure you are the administrator and if not right-click on the installation program and click "Run as Administrator", and delete all traces of iTunes off the computer, i.e. delete the folder C:\Program Files\ipod as you say. Make sure it is the latest version of iTunes and is for Windows Vista (not XP). Another thing to point out is to make sure your Computer is compatible with iTunes 8.2 (perhaps try installing iTunes 8.0/8.1 by searching for the link in Google).
If you have done all of that and it still does not install then I do not know what is wrong. As iTunes is one of the many applications i use 24/7 (pretty much) and I use it all the time, I would try installing it on a similar Windows Machine with a similar configuration and it works, I would reinstall Windows on your personal computer. If not, take the case further as I cannot think of anything else that could be wrong, so long as you have not edited the installation program or anything Good luck.

  • Can't install Itunes 64 on Vista 64 bit OS

Bought an Ipod Touch. Downloaded iTunes64. On install I get an iTunes + QuickTime error "Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode (not), or if the Windows Installer is not installed correctly. Contact your support personnel for assistance"
HP Support(3 hrs), Microsoft Support(none), and Apple Support(2 hrs) unable to diagnose and offer fix. Any one had this error and successfully installed iTunes 64 on 64 bit Vista?
    AKWilder

Excellent news, AK! Glad the HP chap was able to fix things for you.
Our flight to New Zealand will be from San Francisco to Sydney, then to Auckland
Ahhhh ... the long one ... Actually the issue I was wondering about would hit on LA-to-Auckland as well, but looking at the features on the Touches, a full charge apparently only gives you a maximum of 6 hours video playback:
    http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/
... so it might be worth getting a battery-pack of some description as well?
I haven't used it myself so can't vouch for it from personal experience (actually, I've never used a battery pack with an iPod), but there's a Kensington model I can see in the online Apple Store that claims it will give you up to 21 hours of video playback:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR823LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA4NA&mco=MTA4NDYwODk
Thinking that with both that and the ipod fully charged, that might get you all the way from Florida to Auckland. (Best to do some "comparison shopping" of your own, though, before getting something like that ... I'm no expert on what would constitute the best deal for you.)

  • Can I install iTunes in separate user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit?

    Hi,
My wife and I use different user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit. Before I go and mess things up on my computer, I wanted ask some questions:
    1) Has anyone has successfully installed iTunes to multiple user account?
    2) If so, has anyone successfully shared the same music root directory for 2 different iTune instances.
I'm thinking with iTunes very tight integration with the music files (for indexing/searching, etc), that it would be bad to have add/change/delete on the same music root from 2 independent installations.
    Experience OR opinions welcome!

) Has anyone has successfully installed iTunes to multiple user account?
You don't install the iTunes application more than once. Each user account in Windows will have its own iTunes library.
If so, has anyone successfully shared the same music root directory for 2 different iTune instances.
Many people have done so. This should help:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
Note that iTunes has no folder-watching capability, so if you add a track in one user account, the other user will have to add that new item manually, either by using the Add To Library command or dragging the item into the iTunes window. There are a couple of potential solutions from other developers, though:

  • Can't install itunes 9 in windows 7 "The folder iTunes cannot be found"

I can not install itunes 9.0.3.15 in windows 7. Getting the error message "The folder iTunes cannot be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the Music folder." I see a solution has already been posted for this problem, but it is specifically for Windows XP. Anyone have a solution for the problem in Windows 7?

Doublechecking some things before proceeding, j. Are you trying to upgrade your iTunes on the PC? Or is this the very first time iTunes has been installed on the PC?
Are you getting the error message during the install, or when trying to launch 9.0.3.15 after the install?

  • I can't install Itunes because of Windows installer package error, please help!

I tried installing Itunes for a long time on my desktop, I'm running Vista. Everytime I try to install Itunes it runs for a bit, then gives me this message
" There is a problem with Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I went through many posts on how to solve this problem, I uninstalled and deleted all the files from this thread : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
and tried to reinstall Itunes, didn't work, same error message.
After i tried to install Itunes in Clean boot still didn't work.
I also downloaded MicrosoftFixit.Program which apperantly fixed this problem for some people, not for me.
Then I extracted Itunes and tried to install all the components seperately, everything installed correctly, however when I tried to install Apple Software update
I got the same error message, i think it is the Apple software update that is causing this problem but I have no idea how to solve this problem.
How do I solve this, any thoughts or suggestions???

Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
Now, uninstall Bonjour from Control Panel.
