Can't Install iTunes ANYMORE!!!!

Okay, I had iTunes 7.1.1.5 installed on my computer and it was working fine, but I decided to update and I can't get iTunes 7.2 to install. I've NEVER had this problem with any version.
I keep getting this message:
"THE SYSTEM CANNOT OPEN THE DEVICE OR FILE SPECIFIED"
I shut down Zone Alarm, TrendMicro and it still won't install. But I was able to get the latest Firefox to install. I can't get Safari for Windows to install either. I can't even reinstall iTunes 7.1.1.5 because I get the same message.

Well, I spent 8 hours trying to fix this problem and now I'm SCREWED!!! I tried uninstalling Zone Alarm and Trend Micro PC-cillin and iTunes still won't install. I uninstalled Spy Sweeper and Ad-Aware and still nothing. Yet, I was able to reinstall Zone Alarm, Firefox, Ad-Aware. But then I couldn't reinstall Trend Micro PC-cillin 2007 because it said the same thing "THE SYSTEM CANNOT OPEN THE DEVICE OR FILE SPECIFIED." I was able to reinstall the 2006 version of PC-cillin. But it's all screwed up now.
I just got that really sick feeling in my stomach. I mean, I was using iTunes 7.1.1.5 Monday afternoon, and all because I uninstalled it to upgrade it's like a NIGHTMARE. Everything was fine and now I feel bad. I want to cry. My Firefox is screwed up now. I have to approve web pages like 10 times before they load now. That stupid Tren Micro box keeps popping up asking for Firefox approval for every single page now. I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. And all because I removed iTunes and it wouldn't install. I thought it was having a conflict with with my AntiVirus or Firewall. MISTAKE!!!
This is like Deja Vu. Because right before iTunes 7.0 was released last year all kinds of BS went down. Like my QuickTime stopped working and so I uninstalled it and couldn't get it to reinstall for like 3 days. Therefore, I couldn't use iTunes. And that's what I did for like 3 days, install and uninstall various programs. Search and delete. And this was right before the widespread, massive 7.0 meltdown. Luckily I avoided the latter. But here I am again.

I have been using Itunes for 3 months. I had 2 hard drives, the C being for the softwares (that's where Itunes was installed) and the D for the data (that's where I put Itunes folder : my music). However, I had to remove the D hard drive and now, I can't open Itunes anymore, I can't uninstall Itunes and I can't even re-install it. Always the same error message : can't find the D drive. Although I have a My mucic with my Itunes librairy on the C drive, it's not working... please help me!

First make backup copies of these four files:
1) The Library database file: ‘iTunes Library.itl’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
2) The Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
3 & 4) The two iTunes.pref files
-- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
-- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
Then delete them all from their original locations. Reboot the PC and start iTunes. Do not allow iTunes to re-scan your PC for music files. You should end up with a 'blank' Library. Close iTunes. Then proceed to uninstall iTunes as described below.
Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime

If you want to guarantee a successful upgrade and be proactive about minimizing potential install issues, do the following:
1. Completely Backup your music and iTunes library files.
2. Virus check / spyware scan your machine. Use several quality programs to completely scan your PC – all drives. EWIDO seems to be one used by many here. Free at: http://www.ewido.net/en/
3. Completely remove / uninstall the current version of iTunes and QuickTime from your system.....
3a. - Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
3b. - Do a Stepwise clean uninstallation of iTunes
3c. - Then download and install the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility
.....And make sure iTunes is really gone.
4. Delete the contents of your temp folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp
5. Reboot the PC
6. Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
7. Start with the QuickTime standalone installer. Download it and save it to your hard drive. Then run it from the PC (not directly from on-line)
8. Reboot the PC

10. Completely download the latest iTunes Installer. Save it to your PC. Then run it from the saved location of your PC
11. Reboot the PC
12. Open iTunes and enjoy
The majority of problems out there on the discussion boards are caused by viruses or other system corruption — sometimes self-inflicted by the user (i.e. - people who turn off necessary Windows services) — or out of date drivers. Can't install itunes and quicktime on win7 32bit

Hi all,
since the new updates from october 2011 i couldnt update my itunes anymore. During the installation it said:
in dutch: kan map C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu niet maken. Er bestaat al een bestand met deze naam. Wijzig de naam of verwijder het bestand en klik op nogmaals.
In english: can not make folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu. There already excists a folder with this name. Rename the folder or delete the folder and try again.
Now the problem is: i deleted my itunes and quicktime to finally install the new updates. When i install itunes it still give this message during the install and i cannot find the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu and i deleted everything i could find from itunes.
In my start menu there isnt anything named itunes as far as i can see. how can i delete the folder so i can finally instal itunes again..?

hello there i can't install itunes due to a problem with the windows installer package i found a page on this site (here is the link) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304405 i done every thing on it and i still haven't been able to fix the problem i have tryed the following unstalling itunes deleteing the registry keys deleteing all the temp files disableing all anit-virus software and anit-spyware. runing cc clearner downloading a new installer for itunes and windows installer and the script thing. and trying to reinstall. nothing seems to work i don't know what else to do this is the error message i get when i try to install i tunes. "there is a problem with this windows installer package.
A program required for thsi install to complete could not be run.
Contact your suupport personnel or package vendor."
Please Help i would be most greatfull for any advise given

I pulled my brains out trying to figure this bug out and I may have a solution for you.
All of it installed fine in my desktop, but a friend's laptop got the error you mentioned on quicktime, itunes, flash, officeXP and about anything else I tried to load for him.
If you look in: C:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp there will be an iTunes install log...open it in Notepad and see if it isn't exiting with a 1619 error while running msiexec.exe
If this is the case, this fix should work for you.
Seems some configurations of XP (and possibly Vista) aren't allowing full administrator rights to the account you set up when you installed XP (even though User Editor says you do have those rights.)
I read 2 MS articles and turned off simple file sharing, then gave ownership of the entire C: drive to the administrator. Logged the admin account off, logged his "admin" account in, and then gave rights to his personal directory to his account (c:\docs and settings\<username>)
Once I did that, every install that had previously errored out performed flawlessly.

I am not highly technical, so please bear with me:
After repeatedly being unable to update itunes 10.2, I thought I should just uninstall it and install itunes 10.4. Wow, what a mistake. After many hours I now can't run my MS Office programs AND I can't load or run itunes.
Originally, while trying to update itunes, I kept getting the message "errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose tools > download only and try installing manually." This confused me as I could not find "tools."
After some reading online, I decided what I should do is download the Windows Installer clean up tool. Apparently this was the BIG mistake. I selected Apple items to remove with msicuu.exe, only to find that now my MS Office 2010 programs no longer run ("Microsoft Office not installed for this user"), and I still can't install itunes.
I tried installing itunes 10.2 and got a message that I must install a 32-bit version of itunes.
I used the cleanup tool once again and tried to install itunes 10.4, and got the message: could not open key: UNKNOWN\components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\6A262021B4A79884EA585F5E86D 86338. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel.
Now when I try to run MS Office software, getting message "Preparing to install", then, Configuring Microsoft Office Professional Plus, then something about the program not being installed for this user (I'm the only user).
I realize that this board probably can't help me with MS Office software, but can you help me with itunes?

Doublechecking some things before proceeding, j. Are you trying to upgrade your iTunes on the PC? Or is this the very first time iTunes has been installed on the PC?
Are you getting the error message during the install, or when trying to launch 9.0.3.15 after the install?

I think it would be a good idea to scan for malware as malware often interferes with Windows Update.
Download Malware bytes and run a full scan, there is a free version:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
In services, check the Window Update service. It should show as "started" and start up type automatic.
The other thing is to run the system file checker:

This will attempt to fix problems and if it will not run, that is another clue to the problem.

When you uninstall, the items you uninstall and the order in which you do so are particularly important:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.

Are you trying to install the 32-bit version on a 64-bit machine, or vice versa?
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
