Can't install iTunes on my new Vista-PC

I bought my Dell Notebook 2 months ago. It's with Vista Home Premium (no upgrade from XP, Vista installed from the beginning) and runs fine so far. But I've got no chance installing iTunes - seems to be simply impossible (it tells something of "VisualBasicScript is not installed" - which is probably not the problem...). Now as I saw in some discussion groups, some think that there's a problem with Vista/McAfee/iTunes. But others say there's none. Now my question:
- is there anyone whith a similar system who had and solved this annoying problem?
- or are there any other ideas beside of "wait until Apple publishes a new version of iTunes" (of which probably no one knows when this should happen)?
Dell Inspiron   Other OS   Windows Vista, 2GB, 2048MB RAM, 256graphics

I know nothing about Vista but I hope this helps you.
Here is the Apple advice for this error in XP

Have you completed all windows update including service Pack1?  If not, please complete all the windows update then follow steps below to re-install all over.
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • CAN'T INSTALL ITUNES 9 ON WINDOWS VISTA 64-BIT OS

    Hey guys!
I'm having a reaaaallly hard time installing iTunes on my Windows Vista 64-bit OS. Everytime I think it's about to finish installing, it shows me this message:
What does it mean?? Can someone PLEASE help me, I haven't had music on my iPhone for 4 weeks now!

Curses ... you did everything right by providing the screenshot, thanks. But we really need to see the error message number that shows up after the "HRESULT" bit for one of those, and it's deciding not show us that.
Okay ... people who get these error messages for iTunes installs typically are also getting Windows updates failures too. So we'll try to work out what the iTunes/Updates issue is by checking your Update history.
Go into your Windows Update and click "Update History". Have updates been failing for you recently? If so, doubleclick on each failure to bring up a small window showing some info about the failure.
What error message codes are you getting for the Windows Updates failures? (For example, 0x8007000B, or something else?)

  • Can't install itunes on my new laptop w/ Windows 8 64bit

So, I am trying to install the newest version of itunes on my Dell with Intel i3 Windows 8- 64 bit system.  I had itunes on my old laptop (running Windows Vista) and it worked just fine, but when I tried to install it on my new dell, I get as far as downloading (itunes64setup.exe) and after it is done downloading and I try to install it, it gives me a pop up that says something along the lines of "this app can not be installed on your system- contact software manufacturer for the correct version for your system"  I spent several hours on the phone yesterday with an apple rep and they weren't able to resolve it either.  They had my delete the itunes that I had just downloaded, turn off my internet protection and try downloading the same one again.  It downloads, it just won't install afterwards.  When that did not work either, she had me try installing the standard 32 bit version, still nothing.  Then she had me install the older itunes 9.2 to see if that would install and then I could just update it afterwards, but that would not install either after downloading.  I tried restarting my computer and then downloading it again, same issue.  I've been using the newest version of Firefox, but I tried downloading and installing it in IE.  Same issue. Tried IE w/out internet protection, same issue.  As a last resort I saved the itunes installation from my old laptop on a flash drive and tried to install it on my new laptop from the flash drive and it almost seemed like it would work, it started the installation wizard, but after a minute it stopped and said that it was a 32bit version and that I needed the 64 bit version for my system.  That is actually the farthest I had gotten with any of my tries.  It would not even get to the installation box with any of the other tries!!! If any one knows a solution for this, I would be so greatful!!! I tried the tips from past discussions and it did not resolve it.  HELP!!!

  • CAN'T INSTALL ITUNES ON MY WINDOWS VISTA 64-BIT SYSTEM

    Hey guys,
I'm having a hard time installing Itunes on my 64-bit Windows Vista system. Everytime I think it's about to finish installing, it shows this message.
Someone, please help me! I haven't had music on my iPhone for 4 weeks now!

Not Windows RT then .  When you say "I've tried both" do you mean the 32- and 64-bit installers for Windows?  In the first instance you should go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ - this should detect the version of Windows you are running and offer the correct installer.  It'll look like this:
Click on Download Now - this will download the correct installer for you to run and install iTunes.
There is, however, some anecdotal evidence that the scripts on the Apple site that are supposed to detect the version of Windows you are running may fail for some users - jumping straight to the "Thank you for downloading ..." page with the installer not having been downloaded.  As an alternative, you can go directly to the relevant downloads:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe
of which you'll need the second one.  See turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for more details if you're still having problems with installation; you may also need to consult HP's helpdesk as the error message you report may be symptomatic of a Windows issue, not an iTunes one.

  • Can't install iTunes or QuickTime on Vista.  Vista is killing me. HALP!

I read through all the [million] other posts with Vista problems but mine is a bit different.
Its a brand new Dell computer with 32bit Vista Home Premium which I have learned is a bad idea but now I'm stuck with it and without my music. I hear some people don't have problems with ITunes and Vista at all so I still have hope.
When I try to install iTunes 8 plus QuickTime this is the error:
"the installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime."
When I try to install QuickTime on its own this is the error:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755."
Thanks for any info. Peace in the new year to all!

I am having this same problem. Has anyone found a solution?

  • Can't install Itunes 9.2 "Newer Version of Quicktime"

I got a new itouch last week. Worked fine. Then went to update software to new OS (maybe Apple could have put this on a brand new one instead of older OS?!). Message said i needed Itunes 9.2. Went to update and got error "newer version of quicktime installed" and that i can't update since iTunes needs Quicktime. Tried several approaches, no luck. Deleted Itunes for a fresh start and then this wiped the Itouch clean which i had not at all intended. But, despite this exact same error message. I have been working on this and have used various uninstallers and searched the registry, cleaned temp folders, compressed and defragmented the hard drive. Downloaded Chrome, tried manually installing Itunes using Apple Software update, etc etc etc etc etc. Same message. Do i need to wipe the hard drive? Does anyone from Apple have any idea what to do? All message boards i have seen indicate that they do not.

That one has gotten complicated ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install CleanUp"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Can't install iTunes 7.5 on vista!  Going crazy.  Can't find in forums

Hey guys. I am on my mom's computer trying to install iTunes for her, and I just can't get it to happen. I have searched the forums, but no one is having this problem...
I go to download. Everything seems to be working, but it lands on the "preparing to instal..." window, and then nothing happens. It just sits there. I left it alone for a few hours, but nothing.
I tried downloading quicktime and iTunes, but the same thing happend.
I tried downloading quicktime by itself, same thing.
Does anyone know how to fix this? There is currently no iTunes on the computer at all.

Your lucky. Everything was find until I installed iTunes 7.5 on my Vista Ultimate machine and it crashed the machine and the OS. Lost everything in iTunes including purchases, movies, games, playlists, everything and had to re-install Vista and everything else that installs. I do wonder if Apple did this deliberately. I know Vista is problematic but there is really no excuse for this kind of thing happening either from Apple, Microsoft, or Dell for that matter. Of course Apple or Microsoft could care less.

  • Can't install iTunes 8 in Windows Vista

Everytime i tried to install the iTunes 8 a message appear on my screen says
"This installation package could not be opened.Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer package"

i recently bought my ipod touch 2G and because i don't have the itunes i can open it.:(
    Please help me.:((

Doublechecking some things before proceeding, j. Are you trying to upgrade your iTunes on the PC? Or is this the very first time iTunes has been installed on the PC?
Are you getting the error message during the install, or when trying to launch 9.0.3.15 after the install?

  • Can't install iTunes 9 on Vista. iPod services have stopped?

I can't installed iTunes 9 on my Windows Vista PC. When I try to install, the installation process gets to about 95% complete, then an error pops up saying "Serice 'iPod Sevice' (iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the service". I also get a Windows System error that says "iPod service module (64-bit) stopped working and was closed". I can't install iTunes 9 and can't find any answers. And yes, I'm installing iTunes as the system Admin. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

My problem is with Vista, but slightly different to the above.
I bought a new Vista PC yesterday and was able to download iTunes 8 to it.
I'm also still using my old XP PC until I get the Vista one properly set up. Last night I ran all iTunes/iPhone/iPod Touch updates successfully on the XP machine.
Today I am updating the Vista PC. Safari and Quick Time have downloaded.
iTunes itself reaches 98.7 of 98.8 verified and then fails.
The error message I am getting is ""The windows installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance"
I have no idea what that means, does any Vista user know what the Windows Installer Service is and how I sort this out?
There is a pop appearing occasionally about setting up 'winlock' - I have no idea what that is (need to google to find out) so have ignored that until I understand what it is.
I've tried both running direct from the download and saving to my PC but still the same error message. Odd that the program installed yesterday but the updated version will not do so today.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
