Can't install latest security update

Hi all,
Hope Someone can help me out in this problem. I've been installing the latest security update (Security Update 2008-002) for many times, but every time the installation bar reaches its end, I get this message:
A networking error has occurred: Error NSURLErrorDomain -1005 (-1005). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.
I'm quite confidant that the Internet connections is working properly. This problem has occurred more than 5 times!
Any suggestions guys?
BTY, I'm using the Safari 3.1, if this has anything to do with the problem.
Thanks...

Sorry for my late reply but I lack of high-speed Internet connection at my place.
*Hi boabdo, Welcome (Back)* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
Take a CD and a smile to a friend w Mac and DSL or an AASP or a Public Library w Macs or an Internet Café w Macs. I add the "w Mac" cuz I saw a thread where DL was PC version. For a SU that may not be relevant so even if PC it may work.
Good Luck, JP

  • Trouble connecting to Airport after installing latest security update

Hi, I have just spent an hour with a level 2 SBC DSL tech and they could not resolve my problem. The problem is this: After installing the latest security update released on March 13 for OS 10.3.9, I can no longer securely connect to my airport. It may have something to do with the keychain because this has happened several times before, most recently after the previous security update about 2 weeks ago. Usually after much playing around, I get a window asking for permission for my new network settings to access the keychain. Once I say yes, all works fine. This time, I am not getting that prompt. Even though I have a full signal showing I am connected to the base, it will not pick up and IP address. Finally, the SBC tech had me disable the wireless key on the desktop pc that is the primary computer on the system and immediately my connections works. If I enable the wireless security key, I lose the connection. As I am completely open to hackers with the wireless security disabled, this is a big problem. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can anybody help me?! Thank you so much for your help!

    Hi, my first post here!
I too experienced this problem this evening, after applying the latest security update to Panther. I had verified that the wireless base station was working correctly and that it's WEP key hadn't become corrupted. There were no error messages after re-starting the Mac, just no IP number via airport.
The keychain utility would hang if any attempt was made to alter the password for WEP, and the airport utility hung too. I used Disc Utility to verify permissions, which found dozens of errors - haven't done any maintenance for months - and fixed them.
On re-starting, Airport was 'OFF' so turned it on, was asked to allow access to keychain, and all is working again.
Thank you to those of you who posted the suggestion about permissions, you certainly saved my evening!

  • IMac won't "wake-up" after installing latest security update

I have a fairly new iMac G5 2GHz, and just installed the latest security update yesterday(4/1/06). Since that update, everytime my computer goes to sleep, I can't wake it up.
The power light is on and I hear the computer running... I can even hear the error "bonk" when I try and hit a bunch of keys, but still won't wake up. Was NEVER a problem until yesterday and I haven't installed anything else.
    Thanks in advance

  • Ethernet will not connect after installing latest Security Update.

I installed the latest security update, restarted my computer, and found that it now will not connect to the internet. I get the message "Could not find a PPPoE server". I have checked all of my settings, restarted the computer again, turned the modem off and on again, etc., but nothing helps. I know that there is nothing wrong with the modem and server because I am connected through the same DSL modem to this computer (a mac mini). It would seem that the security update has done something unhelpful! Any ideas?
BTW, the ibook does not have a wireless card and I had not installed 2 earlier wireless updates. I only installed this one because it said "recommended for all users".

    Hello
It seems that the update set your preferences to "use PPPOe" while you where using "TCP/IP".
Go to "System Preferences" and enter the pane whose icon is named "Réseau" in french (maybe "Network" in english.
    Reset your settings to "TCP/IP".

  • MacBookPro Freezes after Installing Latest Security Update 2006-003

After downloading and installing the latest security update 2006-003, MacBook Pro freezes when trying to do anything. Seems to do ok in safe mode but did freeze when trying to verify disk with Disk Utility. (did not try to repair as I am out of town at a motel without Tiger disks). Any suggestions before calling apple?
    MacBook Pro 15   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Since my post, I think I have solved the problem. At least MyMacBook is working ok so far. What I did is started up in safe mode (for the third time) then I went through the "Library" and looked for stuff that looked like it wouldn't work on a MacBook. This included some Norton Utility things. Also went through preferences and Application Support and did the same thing. By the way I had transferred all this stuff from my old Mac using the transfer app and connecting the two with firewire.
Anyway, it's been working for about an hour. I'll keep this post open for a couple of days to see if it keeps working.

  • Menu items dimmed after installing latest security update

has anyone else seen this problem? after installing the latest security update 2008-02 on my macbook, file menu and other items are dimmed (grayed out) after a restart. i have to right click on the desktop to bring up the contextual menu before the menu items become available. after that, the machine works as expected. the problem does not exist on my intel imac, which has identical software installed. it's more an annoyance than a big problem, but does anyone have a clue about how to fix it? i've tried trashing preference files for the finder, but that didn't seem to work. thanks in advance.

well, i couldn't figure it out, so i reinstalled leopard and updated it to 10.5.2 with the latest security update and everything is working normally. something must have been broken in my previous set up.

  • Safari & Software Update crash after installing latest Security Update

I recently loaded Security Update 2008-007 and now Safari crashes on trying to open. I've also found Software Update crashes. Trying to reload Safari and the downlaoad crashes. I'm running 10.5.5 on my G4 12" Powerbook. Any suggestions, before I permanently turn to Firefox? Which of course won't help with Security update

I found that reinstalling the system and not opting to install the security update stop the crashing let's hope the next security update doesn't do the same thing

  • Can't install latest Skype update on OS X 10.5.8

I get a message that my version of Skype is to be retired. Then I find my operating system, which cannot be updated (Mac OS X 10.5. is unable to run the latest Skype.
So I need a new computer?

6.15.334 actually works pretty well on the Mac, but the question is for how long....
Mocrosoft have decied to retired 6.14, which means that in about 8 months to a year, they will decide that 6.15 is due to be retired to, and that's it, gone.
The requirements for 6.19 are utterly stupid - a 1 Ghz CPU with Mavericks??????
The person who wrote that knows nothing about MacOS - there is not a single Mac with a 64bit EFI architecture that has a 1Ghz CPU, and the 32bit EFI machiens won't run Mavericks.
As Microsoft are prone to enforcing a hardware requirement whether it's needed or not (the requirement of PAE on a 64bit system when installing Windows 8.1 is a prime example), once they decide to ditch 6.19, we're stuck.
The windows version (desktop and metro ui) is terrible, bugridden, overcomplicated, cluttered and slow. The Mac version looks cleaner, is pretty lean, and runs fast on my 8 y/o macbook.
It's the only saving grace with Skype at the moment, and they're going to drop it when they feel like it, and sod all of us who don't have a brand spanking new mac.
Regarding 10.5.8, unless you're on a G5, I would suggest an upgrade to at least 10.6.8 (as far as you can go on a Core Duo 32bit), or 10.7.x on anything above a Core 2 Duo.
Even if you can only go up to 10.6.8, it's a big improvement over 10.5.x.

  • Lenovo Care upgrade can't install Client Security update.

    Hi !
Laptop is 3000N200 (0769-BAG) Upgraded to Windows XP.
Since a couple of weeks, when I launch Lenovo Care assitant and look at upgrades for my system, it finds Client Security Solution Version 8.2 but the installation finished immediatelly and said that it was not installed. I don't know why, I can't see a log file nor an error message. If I launch the assistant again, it finds the same update availlable again...
What is wrong with this ? And how can I fix the problem ?
    TIA !

You should check out my detailed post in the following thread:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=N_Series_Lenovo_3000&message.id=5649
    However, I'll summarise.
    a) It seems that the system update application tries to load version 8.2 (of the Client Security Solution) on top of version 8.0
    b) It seems that you cannot go directly from 8.0 to 8.2; you [manually] have to go via 8.1 which is available here (vista/xp):
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-69128
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-69733
Of relevance to diagnosis was that you really need to do a manual install to actually see the error message rather than just have the install fail silently. Overall, however, it was reading the various related web pages that yielded the needed information (see the post I referenced above for the detailed information).
Lastly, when doing the manual installs I did receive an additional error message related to the version of finger-print software I had loaded. I now believe that this was a red herring, but it did lead me on a wild goose-chase (read my other post for the gory details).
Good luck and post your experiences back here!
    George.

  • Cannot login [get Darwin/BSD] after installing latest Security Update?!?

"Software Update" prompted install of new Apple update - after restart, long startup wait & login at regular User screen then flashes to black "Darwin/BSD" page - then blue screen... I've run Disk Util [off Install CD], run repair & fix permissions [no change]. Performed suggested Single-User "fix" for possible corrupt NetInfo & still, no login available. Need help, other troubleshooting advice? Don't know if my next step is to re-install OS X? [am booting off an external FW drive that's brand new]

When booted into Single User mode, did you type in reboot and exit, so
the computer would know you wanted it to get out of Single User and to
start up in the GUI of your OSX? It may need such a prompt even if you
did not ask it to be in Single User in the first place.
Did SafeBoot> repair disk permissions> restart, do anything different?
The key may likely still be in the single user or fsck mode. Another user
had a similar issue recently in one of these forum pages.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Both of those updates, as per the associated KB article are only applicable
to 2008 R2 RTM. They are not applicable, again as per the KB articles to
    2008 R2 SP1.
If whatever software you're using to determine PCI compliance is reporting
that a 2008 R2 SP1 server is out of compliance then that is a false
positive and you should push back on the vendor of the compliance tool.
