  • HT4463 I Can't Install Mountain Lion On My Macbook

I Can't Install Mountain Lion On My Macbook White 10.6.8 (Late 2010) . It Goes Throught The Process, And Once It's Downloaded, It Doesn't Say To Restart. I Restart It On My Own And It Still Boots Up To Snow Leopard. I Tried Downloaded It Over And Over Again Five Times, And It Does The Same Thing. Does Any1 Have Any Insight On This Issue?

As a rule the Mac App Store won;t let you buy and download Mountain Lion if your hardware doesn't support it, so the first question is did you get ML from the MAS?
If so then what procedure are you following to install the OS? You wrote that
Once It's Downloaded, It Doesn't Say To Restart.
but downloading is only part of the installation process, what exactly is happening on the system?

    Yes, you can.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • I Restored My Imac, But I Can't Install Moutain Lion As It Says I Haven't Purchased Lion. This Is Because I Went From Snow Leopard Straight To Mountain Lion. PLEASE HELP

So my mac is pretty much useless becuase i can't install mountain lion after a restore of my mac.
I have an imac late 2008 which i bought second hand. It only had Leopard OS X. So I bought the Snow Leopard OS X discs and installed them. I then bought Mounain Lion Straight from the app store and downloaded that.
However I recently decided to restore it for extra space. So i restored it fine and then attempted to reinstall Mountain Lion. Then a message popped up saying that 'This Apple ID has not purchased Lion' meaning that i can't now install Mountain Lion.
I then inserted the Snow Leopard disc and then it would not give me the option to install it on my hard drive and there was a little yellow caution sign on the picture of the hard drive.
I am stumped for ideas now and REALLY NEED SOME HELP
    Thanks,
    Fin

If you installed Leopard that is why you can't install Mt Lion. The system Must be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to upgrade to Lion or Mt Lion.
If you only erased the Macintosh HD partition then you left the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition in tact on that system. At startup hold down the Command+r keys to boot to the Recovery HD Partition. From there erase the Macintosh HD partition and then select Reinstall Mac OS X. It should then download Mt Lion and ask you for the Apple ID that was used to purchase Mt Lion.
The Reason Snow Leopard might not be installing is because of the Recovery HD partition. To get rid of that you must First Re-Partition the drive As One Partition. Then install Leopard then SL (Or Snow Leopard from the start) and then update it to 10.6.8. Once that is done you should be able to log on to the Mac App Store and Re-Download Mt Lion.

  • [SOS][Urgent]Can I install OS Lion 10.7.x on late 2012 mac mini?

    Hi all,
I got a late 2012 mac mini device which comes with preinstalled Mt Lion(10.8.2).
I need to run dual boot it with Lion 10.7.x. How can I install OS Lion 10.7.x on this device on different partition?
I've tried many ways but have not managed to do it(Create Lion USB bootable use my friend Lion OS dmg file).
    Please help me.
    TriQuang

In general, Macs cannot boot an operating system older than the one they were shipped with installed.  There are some exceptions with those computers that shipped at the time of transition to a new operating system and still had the firmware that permited the immediately previous operating system.  Once the firmware has been updated they can no longer boot the previous operating system.
Depending on the exact manufacture/release date of your computer it may have been possible to boot both Lion and Mountain Lion, but your use of a USB and attempt to boot showed that was not possible.
There is a technique some users say works in this case...and that is to install software such as Parallels 8 on an external drive partition, then install Lion on that partition and run it in a virtual machine environment.  This gets very complicated but can be done.
Another alternative you might want to consider is looking at the Apple on-line store, lower left side of that window, and see what refurbished equipement is available that runs Lion.  Those computers have been completely gone over by Apple, new batteries for the portable models, new caes, any faults repaired, and come with new computer one-year warranties.  They are indistinguishable from a new computer.  And if there is one that meets your needs you would have your current machine running ML and another running Lion.

  • I erased my HD. Now I can't instal mountain lion from my bootable flash drive, and keep getting "installation error. Try again."

I bought  mountain lion, made a bootable flash drive.
I booted from it and it went to upgrading right away!
So I stopped it and went to my former recovery partition I erased my HD because I wanted a clean start.
Now I can't instal mountain lion from the bootable flash drive, and keep getting "installation error. Try again."
and there is no 4 choices window.
I don't know what to do.

How did you create the USB install thumb drive? If it was with Disk Utility I have run into this problem and have since used THIS program to make the USB install drive.
As to your problem you only have one option and that is to Reinstall the Original OS X version that came on your computer or if you still have the Lion Recovery Partition use that to reinstall Lion. Or if you system came with Lion and you have No Lion Recovery HD Partition you can boot the system from over the internet and Reinstall Lion.
At startup hold down the Command+Option+r keys until you saa a spinning Globe in the center of the screen. Once that loads Repartition the drive as One partition and then reinstall Lion.
