Can't install mpkg

I just got some new software on a CD. Installation instructions say to open the mpkg file. When I try, I get the following from Installer:
"The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.) Couldn't open "Traktor Installer Mac.mpkg"."
What should I try to get this to work?

One extra piece of information: I tried copying the CD contents to my HD, and partway through got a message saying:
"The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “Traktor Installer Mac.mpkg” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)"
Might the CD be corrupted somehow? Perhaps I have to get a new install disc from the vendor?

  • Can't install mpkg files anymore

I'm having a problem installing mpkg files - specifically, the newest ipod update.
I downloaded the newest ipod updater file, clicked on the mpkg file to try and install it, and a message popped up indicating that it could not find the program to install mpkg files, and prompted me to choose an application with which to open it.
I did some hunting and research online and found that the Utilities folder should have an installer for this, which would automatically open and install mpkg files. This is the Utilities folder where all of my ipod updaters have previously been installed. However, said utilities folder is no longer anywhere on my computer and I'm not sure what happened to it, and whether this is even the problem causing me to be unable to install mpkg files at all. I'm wondering if maybe I accidentally deleted the Utilities folder. I started to try to re-install the software that came bundled with my operating system, but when I tried to do that I got the same "no program identified with which to install mpkg files."
Is this inability to install mpkg files really a problem caused by not having my utilities folder anymore? If so, is there any way to re-install the utilities folder without completely re-installing the operating system? If it's not a result of not having a utilities folder, any ideas?
    Thanks for any recommendation!

    Hi, Sarah -
You would need to use Installer.app to open these files.
    - Do a search on your machine to look for Installer.app or Disk Utility or any other application that exists in your Utilities folder to be sure that the folder wasn't simply moved. If it was moved, put it back in your Applications folder.
    - If you find that the Utilities folder is completely gone, try downloading an application called Pacifist from charlessoft.com. Follow the instructions that come with Pacifist to learn how to find and install the necessary files that make up the apps in your Utilities folder.
    - Here is a picture of the OS X-installed items in my Utilities folder, which may help you figure out which apps need to be installed. You may or may not have or need some of these items, incl. AirPort Client Monitor, AirPort Management Utility, Launch Services Database Rebuild.app, etc.:
    - After you have reinstalled the files, download and install the 10.4.3 Combo Updater so that what you have installed using Pacifist will be brought up to the current version.
    Good luck!

  • Can't install any .PKG or .MPKG files with Mountain Lion.

Some weeks ago I found out, that I can't install anymore any programmes that are packed in .PKG or .MPKG files.
Whenever I double click one of theese files, or when I try the "open with" option, I get a system response from TextEdit.App . . .
I tried already some of the advices mentioned in the community forum, but nothing worked so far.
Latest thing I tried was to re-associate these two file types with the Installer - but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I've got an iMac27, late 2009, 16GB RAM, equipped with the latest version of Mountain Lion.
Hope, you can help me - there are some updates (MS Office, MyTomTom, Logitech drivers, ...) that need to be installed.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dirk.

    I would go thus;
    1. Back up, preferably using bootable and verified clone(s).
    2. Boot into recovery and repair permissions/disc.
    3. Apply combo updater if step 2 was unsuccessful. (The link I have posted assumes you are running 10.7.3 as per your signature).

  • Optional Install.mpkg can't open when I double-click to attempt SL install

The Optional Install.mpkg "can't open" when I double-click to attempt SL installation.

then something is wrong with your system and not the DVd as may have been suspected. you can always install the optional packages by booting directly from the DVd as i said but you should figure out why it does not work normally. make a new user account and log into it. can you do it from there?

  • How can I install logic pro 7.2 (made for power pc) on a brand new Macbook pro?

How can I install logic pro 7.2 (made for power pc) on a brand new Macbook pro with OSX 10.7.4?
This message appears: You can't open the aplication LogicPro.mpkg because power pc aplications are no longer compatible.
    Thanks folks

You should be able to copy all the files from your old computer, although it might not work if the old machine didn't have an intel processor. When I got a new Mac a few months ago, I used the migration assistant to copy everything from my old computer's time machine backup disk. All my old pro apps, such as Final Cut Pro 6, work fine on the new machine under Lion.
Later, I wanted to install Soundtrack pro and couldn't do it from the original disks. So I installed it on my old machine and copied the files. It worked perfectly.

  • I can't install any programs is their fix?

    Hi
I would like to install a divx player however when I download it, it mounts just fin, however when I double click on the .mpkg it won't do anything. I know it has to be my computer because my friend has an iMac and can do it just fine. I don't know what I did to screw it up but I can't install anything on my computer and would like to be able to. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks

To post a screen shot here, click the little camera icon in the reply window toolbar.
That appears to be the Installer.
If it is happening with every installer file, please try it in Safe Mode as I suggested and report back.
It may be something related to the install of OS X. I'm not a huge fan of the whole USB installer thing as it seems to be flaky. Was that created from an installer downloaded for that Mac, or for a different one?
You may need to reinstall OS X from the Recovery HD: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
I don't think this is related to Gatekeeper, but Gatekeeper can be temporarily bypassed by right-clicking on the installer file and choosing Open. If Gatekeeper is blocking it, it will present a small dialog asking if you are sure. You then click Open.

  • Can't install FCP 5

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and was getting ready to install FCP 5 (and later upgrade to 6),
but when I click on the installation icon I get this message:
" You can't ope the application Final Cut Studio.mpkg because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported. "
I was not expecting this since I had FCP installed in my old computer which is also an intel based MacBook Pro (2007).
Why am I getting this message? My system requirements are good.
    Any way around this?
    Thanks!!

You don't need to install FCP 5 before FCP 6. Everything you need is on the FCS2 install disc. All you need is the serial number from FCP 5.
That said, you still can't install it on Lion unless you install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 6 Snow Leo disc first.

  • How many computers can I install my Creative Cloud apps on?

You can install the apps available in Creative Cloud on your primary computer and one backup computer, as long as they are not running at the same time. You will have access to both the Mac OS and Windows versions, so if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, for example, you can install your applications on both. See the product license agreements page for more information.
Read more in the Creative Cloud FAQ

    Jeff,
Here is a concern I have.  I called sales support yesterday and asked the following questions.   I have 3 computers (1) PC tower, (1) iMac and (1) MacBook Pro.   When I first started using Adobe all the way through CS5 Master Collection I always owned the Windows Box Versions.  I have been waiting for months for this to come out so I could move my workflow over to MacOS X.    Since the Creative Cloud supports both MAC and Windows installs the question I asked was can I install it on both my 2 Mac Computers.  Then if I need to use it on my PC can I simply deactivate and then activate on it for use?
The answer your support person gave was "YES"  So the answer in this topic don't even flow with the answers from calling the 800 number!
So now reading this forum topic I am really confused.   I like many others have definate reasons why I may want to flip flop the machine I am using the software on  (1) I have $4500 worth of AE plug-ins.  $2000 worth of these are platform specific.  So they only run on a windows machine.  Even, though I intend on my primary workflow to be used on a MAC there may come a time when I need to use one of these plug-ins and then would have to switch my activation to the PC to use it.
Another scenario,  Let's face it Apple has not been to keen on upgrading the Mac Pro system's.  iMac's are great but have their limitations with graphics cards, drives, and memory.  So if you go a complicated AE render to do,iIt makes a lot more sense to run it on a PC at this time for me.  So my hope here is I would de-activate one of my MAC's activate my PC then render away.
I like many others completely understand that we are only suppose to operate our software on 1 machine at a time.  I am cool with you checking this.  Other posters have asked what if I forget to turn one machine off leave with my MacBook Pro and then fire it up.  Will I be in trouble?  Not sure how you handle this if you don't have a connection.  But Spotify the music streaming company license their software to me the user.  If I fire up one machine,  Then grab my iPhone and try to listen it turns it off on the other machine.  Apps in the app store like MotionX Drive do the same thing.
I am an Electrical Automation Engineer by day and a Graphic/Video Designer Enthusiast at night.   In all the programming software that every vendor provides they provide a licensing server software service that sits locally within the location.  It manages concurrent licenses, without the need for online connections.  Any computer needing to run simply pulls the license from the network connected license server software service.  When the program is done it releases the license.  The only issues with this is if your license server crashes.  It can be a bit of a headache with support to get your license back.   Others simply have an online site (like Apple) Where you simply log in and de-activate devices as needed.  (Heck even Hulu, and Netflix offer this.)
I think if Adobe wants the Cloud thing to take off then they need to re-evaluate this.  The license needs to follow the user not the device.  The user should have a painless simple way to activate and de-activate their license back to their Adobe ID.

How many computers can you install Final Cut on with one license or purchase?

This is an excerpt from the FCPX license, available here.

  • How many computers can you install software on

I have elements 10 installed on one computer can I install it on another?

I am pretty sure you can put on two computers.  I think after you put the serial number in, Adobe will let you know whether you can put another copy on or not.  It keeps track of how many times you've installed it.  I hope that makes sense.

  • How many times can i install?

Well guys this is the problem, i've got parallels and boot camp and i am looking at getting windows xp home sp2 to run on my mac but then i realized you can only install it on one computer. Does installing it in bootcamp and parallels count as two computers or one? If they count as two, does anyone know a way to install on both?
    hope this makes sense!
    Tom

That is correct, but i am wanting to install separately because there are some features disabled by this.
    But thank you for replying!
Also can i add that i am able to use VM ware if that helps in any way.

Actually, having made the same claim a couple of days ago and being proven completely wrong, I have a certain responsibility to correct you by mentioning that there is no limit to how many machines ML can be installed on, as long as you own or control those machines.
