Can't install my IPOD correctly

I just purchased a 5th generation IPOD (30GB) and can't seem to install it properly on Windows XP. When I run the install software provided, it states that the IPOD needs to be formatted. However, when I click on the Format Button, an error message appears saying that there was an error communicating with the IPOD, and that I should disconnect (despite the DO NOT DISCONNECT message) and reconnect. But when I do follow those steps, the same thing happens and it fails to format my IPOD.
I have managed to format it (under My Computer) manually, but iTunes does not recognize my IPOD as connected, and the device only shows up as a Removable Disk Drive under windows.

Nick, I'd suggest you try turning off any anti-virus software before you try the install again and see if that helps.
Also, I'd suggest you put aside the CD and just download the required software from the links below. It's probably more up to date than what's on the CD anyway.
Install iTunes first, then the iPod Updater.
Run the Updater (Start - Programs - iPod), and only connect your iPod when it tells you to. Choose the Restore option, then follow the instructions to finish the process and register the mini.

Hello, I can not install the 'Ipod logiciel' [Ipod software?] for my Ipod Nano on my PC with Windows XP SP2. I don't have any error messages but the installation gets stopped just before its end. I have the same problem. The old version 4.7 works fine on XP but upgrading to version 6.0 or above gives me an error message that says ( The iTunes music library .itl file is locked on a local disk or you do not have permission for this file.) I bought my wife a Nano and the XP machine won't see the Nano,but if I plug the Nano into my Laptop with Win 2000 with the same 4.7 version of iTunes it will work just fine. The only problem is that all the music files are on the desk top machine. I can load the nano but I have to do it in a round about way. I tried updating iTunes about 6 different times with the same results.You must remove Itunes through ad/remove hardware in windows, restart win. then reinstall the older version. I tried the repair rout several times but that did no good.Good luck and I hope Apple can help us out with these problems!

Can't install update, iPod "dead"

This morning, I was trying to sync my iPod touch with my laptop. Two things happened: 1. I kept getting an error message saying that the iPod could not be synced because the disk could not be found. Surprised, I checked in iTunes to locate the folder where my iTunes music is kept, and there it was. Since the folder is where it's supposed to be, why is iTunes giving me this message?
2. I tried installing the latest version of the iPod software (I think it's 3.1.1), and also received an error message. Now my iPod is in Recovery Mode, but all iTunes will do is say "waiting for iPod" but nothing happens. So I have an iTunes that can't find the folder, and an iPod which has been wiped and won't respond at all. Any ideas? I was never asked to pay anything, so no. If I'd need to have paid for it, wouldn't I have been prompted to do so? Besides, the error messages I have been getting don't mention anything about payment whatsoever.

How can I install my iPod (G5 30GB)?

I've installed the newest version of iTunes, connecting iPod to PC... and nothing happens.
Manual says that "set-up assistant" will show up to guide you through the installation... but nothing happens.
My computer sees iPod as an external hard-drive.
But I can't see it iTunes. I can not load any music, pictures anything.
Any suggestions?

try running your ipod diagnostics. in itunes, go "help > run diagnostics", select "ipod diagnostics", and click next.
click on any help buttons you see to the left of the diagnostics display.

it might be worth trying a Windows reformat of the ipod (to FAT32), and then trying to restore again.
if she is showing up in My Computer, right click on her and select format. note that it has to be FAT32 for a Windows formatted ipod:
iPod no longer plays music after formatting or partitioning the hard disk
if the reformatting goes through okay, try plugging her back in and restoring again.
if there's no joy with that, it's probably time to send her in for service, as per:

Can't Install Photoshop CS2 Correctly

I recently installed Photoshop CS2 on my Windows XP (SP2) computer. It installed fine about a year ago, but I got a virus and had to format my drive to get rid of it a few months ago. I tried to reinstall my software today, opened it, clicked the register later option and tried to start using the software but an error message popped up: "An error has been detected and activation cannot continue. Please restart your computer and reinstall the application." Obviously I followed these instructions. I also tried running the installer as an administrator. No luck. No matter what options I select I still get this message. I can't even install the 30-day trial version of the software because when I start using it, I still get this message. I even get it when I'm not connected to the internet. I don't care if this isn't the latest version. I still paid hundreds of dollars for this software and I should be able to use it regardless, so would someone please tell me a way around this issue? I have a feeling if I contact customer service, they won't care because it's an older Photoshop. Also note that I've been unable to install this software on other computers as well. I only have one computer running the software, but I was told that I could install this on two computers. Even if I couldn't, that still doesn't explain why even the trial version of the software doesn't work. Please help. Thanks.

Can't install itunes on correct drive

itunes will not install on c drive. it wants to install on w drive which is too small and can't be expanded. tried the steps for changing the destination but that failed. it keeps trying to install on w drive.

There is no such thing as an Intel G5. It is either one or the other but never both. An Intel tower is a Mac Pro. A G5 is a tower with a PowerPC processor in it. So which do you have?

Can you install them on what? Those are both iOS apps (meaning they can be installed on iPods, iPhones and iPads), but iOS apps cannot be run on either a Mac or a PC. I believe that there is a Mac version of Angry Birds as well, which is completely separate from the iOS version of Angry Birds.

just thought i would share your sentiment as i have now spent months trying to have our computer download the itunes and quicktime for the three freaking ipods we invested in and not one song to listen to yet.

Can't install iTunes 9 on Vista. iPod services have stopped?

I can't installed iTunes 9 on my Windows Vista PC. When I try to install, the installation process gets to about 95% complete, then an error pops up saying "Serice 'iPod Sevice' (iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the service". I also get a Windows System error that says "iPod service module (64-bit) stopped working and was closed". I can't install iTunes 9 and can't find any answers. And yes, I'm installing iTunes as the system Admin. Any help would be appreciated.

My problem is with Vista, but slightly different to the above.
I bought a new Vista PC yesterday and was able to download iTunes 8 to it.
I'm also still using my old XP PC until I get the Vista one properly set up. Last night I ran all iTunes/iPhone/iPod Touch updates successfully on the XP machine.
Today I am updating the Vista PC. Safari and Quick Time have downloaded.
iTunes itself reaches 98.7 of 98.8 verified and then fails.
The error message I am getting is ""The windows installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance"
I have no idea what that means, does any Vista user know what the Windows Installer Service is and how I sort this out?
There is a pop appearing occasionally about setting up 'winlock' - I have no idea what that is (need to google to find out) so have ignored that until I understand what it is.
I've tried both running direct from the download and saving to my PC but still the same error message. Odd that the program installed yesterday but the updated version will not do so today.

The other responder gave you a program that will transfer stuff from your iPod to your new computer. You can transfer iTunes purchaces to your new computer by:

After you move your stuff to your new computer you will have to let iTunes erase your iPod and then sync with the stuff that is now in your iTunes library. You will loose app data though.

. As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

You did install the latest iTunes (10.5) right? If the problem was that iTunes does not see the iPod try:

You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year. It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you. Items that it does not find in the catalog it'll upload and store these in the cloud for you and you can download them on your devices. See http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

It's oviously a problem of iTunes 9.1, which does not seem to fin the syncserver. exe or some of its dependent files.
User icefoxxxx showed me how to solve the problem. Anyway, Apple has to fix this, many people will have the problem:

you won't believe how I fixed it... my syncserver.exe can't run because some dll is missing, but I notice the dll is in another folder "Apple Application Support". So I copied all files in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
over to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
and it solves everything!
Obviously there is something wrong in registering the former folder by the new itunes installation program. Hope next version fixes it.
