Can't install new versions of java under firefox,,i revert to explorer to do so

when attempting to install the lastest version of java, firefox tries to load the install software instaed of providing me with run--->install buttons to click on. this has happened everytime a new version of java has become available,,my work around has been to bring up internet explorer and install java through it.

You can save the Java installer to your desktop and start that file in the usual way with a double click.

  • Can't install new version of itunes or quicktime

Like others, I get the error message Apple Application Support needed to run itunes Helper. Uninstall itunes then instal again. I have repeatedly tried to instal new version of itunes having uninstalled (following troubleshooting page) the old version. I also get the Microsoft windows message Windows installer stopped working and was closed. When I try to install Quick Time on its own I get the message "An error occurred during the installation of assembly Microsoft VC.80,CRT.... What can I do?

In general, these ones tend to be caused by underlying problems on the PC that can prevent Windows Updates from installing. So my main strategy with them is to try to fix the Windows Update issues. If we can get Windows Updates flowing again, that generally clears up the iTunes install errors +en passant.+
Head into your Windows Update, and check for any new updates. Do any fail? If so, open your Update History and doubleclick on the failure entries to bring up a small box with alphanumeric error message codes. Are you getting 8000FFFFs? (They often seem to be associated with an iTunes-install 0x800736FD.)
If you're getting 8000FFFFs, try the following Microsoft document:
    [Windows Update Error 8000FFFF|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-Error- 8000FFFF]
Head back to Windows Update, and stock up on any updates you're behind on. Once you're completely up to date in that regard, try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • TS3648 I have macbook OS x 10.5.8, how can I install new version.

I have mackbook OS X 10.5.8 and I can not able to update any new version of OS X or install new version of iTunes(10.7....). please help me find out.

You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to 10.5.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was based on Power PC code and was written to be able to run on both Power PC and Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It can only run on the Late 2008 through Mid 2010 MacBooks. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.
You have to upgrade to 10.6.8 to be able to download iTunes 10.7 or 11.  The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is back in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

  • Can't install newer versions of iTunes and can't un-install current version

    HELP!
That's a good start to my first post I think lol... hey at least I'm still laughing, even though I feel like crying!
I am having (probably similar to many from what I can see from this forum and also from google search) problems updating my iTunes to the latets version.
Whenever I start to install the new version I get a message pop up saying that iTunes64.msi can't be located, even though it does exist in the default filepath it throws up anyway.
After doing some Google searches I saw that a way around this might be to use the Windows Unintaller Utility, however, I have yet to actually find this utility, particularly as Microsoft now appear to have removed all traces of it from their site as it seemd to be causing other issues.
Next I found an article on Apple that said that if I am having the problems that I have stated above then I should unistall various apple software items in a particular order with iTunes being the first on the list.
This is where I am now stuck! I can't un-install iTunes from Control Panel as it says that it isn't installed! Of course it is installed, however, it would appear that something somewhere is corrupt and it doesn't actually think it is really installed (I think my PC is suffering a sual personality... maybe that's what dual core really means lol).
The corrupt nature of my iTunes installation would also seem to be borne out by the fact that the icon in the list of installed programs for iTunes is not the normal icon but a blank (unrecognised) icon.
I am now clean out of ideas as I can't do any of the "normal" things to remove and re-install iTunes and so I could really use some help/advice.

    Hi Katrina
Thanks for confirming my suspicions on the use of (or rather not) of the utility on Windows 7.
I also tried as you suggested to run the iTune64.msi file from it's location... it almost looked like it was working but then came up with the usual message saying it couldn't find the .msi file.
I even tried copying the file to another location but it still hit the usual error
I have a horrible suspicion that I am not going to get this sorted short of doing a complete re-install of my OS (which I don't fancy doing, particularly as at least iTunes is functioning anyway).
I am already planning to move away from Windows PCs and move onto a Mac in the very near future, so hopefully in the intervening time Apple won't release a critical udate to iTunes that means I need to update to continue certain functionality.
    Roll on Mac-Day for methinks
Of course if anyone else can think of any solutions for me to try in the meantime then I would be more than grateful to hear from them and to give it a whirl.

  • Can't uninstall older version, can't install newer version

I bought The Wiz off iTunes, and it stopped about nidway through it and told me there was an error. So I contacted a tec dude, and he told me to download a newer version of Quicktime. So I tried, and it told me that a newer version as installed and the installation process could not be finished. So then I tried to uninstall the version of Quicktime I had, and it said the same thing, that I could not get it uninstalled until the newer version of Quicktime was uninstalled. I know my way around my computer very well, and there is only one version of Quicktime installed on it, which is 7.5.5. I tried downloading a newer version, 7.6.2, but it still gave me the same message.
Until this is fixed I can't download anything off iTunes and it's driving me crazy. Any ideas?

At first i thought i needed to update the Solaris 11 core, so i updated all the OS. I rebooted and tried again, but the same error persists.
I searched for the error and found little info about it. someone mentions that you need a support contract, but WE DO HAVE A CONTRACT!
I tried to get back to php-52, but now also apache-php52 package complains about this so i'm lost completely.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

    Hello.
You're mixing versions of the OS which won't work.
    Reject: pkg://solaris/web/[email protected],5.11-0.175.1.0.0.24.0
    175.1 indicates Solaris 11.1.
Reason: This version is excluded by installed incorporation pkg://solaris/consolidation/osnet/[email protected],5.11-0.175.0.12.0.4.1
    175.0 indicates Solaris 11.
You need to update the OS to Solaris 11.1.
    Give this a read:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-admin/howto-update-11dot1-ips-1866781.html
BTW, you can have both php-52 and php-53 installed at the same time
then select which one runs under Apache.
    $ man php
    should help you there.
If not then come back and we'll get this sorted.

  • Installing new versions of Java

First let me say I am a first time poster and hope I havent broken any rules. I am not a developer, just a home user who gets periodic prompts to update Java. My disk space is getting low and I noticed I have many versions of Java and JS2E Runtime Environment installed. I guess I assumed when I install an update, Java eliminates/overwrites previous versions. I now have over 1300 MB used up between Java and JS2E Runtime Environment. Hopefully, my question is VERY simple. Can I safely remove the previous versions wihtout totally messing up my PC? Again, please excuse my lask of knowledge regarding forum use. I'e never been in one before, and thnk you in advance for assistance with my very minor issue. I really just need the disk space!

You can go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and remove all JRE installations.
Reboot and go to [http://www.java.com/en/download/|http://www.java.com/en/download/] and fetch and install the latest JRE.
You might want to use something like TreeSize to see where all your disk space has gone.

  • Can't install new version of iTunes to my PC

I've been trying to install the new version of iTunes since it was released with no luck.  The previous version was uninstalled from my computer but the installation process for the new version freezes at various different points, most recently at "calculating space," which doesn't seem to be too far into the process.  I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium version 6.0 if that helps.
    Any asssitance would be appreciated!

If you're getting "error 1015", it means your phone was previously hacked to downgrade the iOS or jailbreak and the modem baseband was altered.  You can NEVER update or restore it to a stock iOS again.
Search Google for alternative solutions to error 1015, but they all will leave the phone in a hacked, unstable state.  (Hint: it will take more than DFU mode.)

  • Quick quesion about installing newer versions of Java

I've got Windows XP Home and I had a quick check in Add or Remove (in Control Panel) and realised that I've got: -
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5 and
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
I've read that Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0.7 is available.
I also heard that some older versions of Java may have security holes so should I install Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0.7 and if yes, should I delete the older versions that I've already got?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Generally the most current version (excluding an initial family release that introduces new features, like 1.5.0) is the most bug-free, since the changes incorporated are bug fixes only.
None of the versions 1.5.0_05, _06, or _07 have any known security problems.
Since Java versions are independent, unless you have a specific reason otherwise, only one version is required. Uninstall in reverse install order before installing a new version to minimize potential problems.

  • Do you uninstall old verison before installing new Version of Java

I have read on Suns website you should keep older versions installed due to some pages will need it to view properly. I have read many different opinions some say keep them installed and others say remove them.
    What is the right answer?
This is my current version from the Console Screen
    Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_01
Using JRE version 1.4.2_01 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM

    Version 1.4.2_01 (build 1.4.2_01-b06)
I have Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition (SP2) Intel P4 3.4 GHz, 2GB ram
    Please advise

I keep most of my installations, but it's enough to keep one of each major version. I.e one 1.4, one 1.5, and so on.

  • Older version of Quicktime won't uninstall - can't install newer version

I am trying to install iTunes 7.5 and Quicktime 7.1 on computer. Keep getting error that older version of Quicktime cannot be uninstalled. Have tried "add/remove" software function on Windows XP; have also tried to manually delete the files. Still get the same answer! Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

+The message I am getting says enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Quicktime.msi'. I have searched for this file and I do not have it on my computer.+
Typically, when you get those sorts of messages (in conjunction with the "cannot uninstall program" message), there's a problem with the installation configuration information for the existing version of QuickTime on the PC.
So let's try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those QuickTime entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (5) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (6) Restart your computer.
Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?
