Can't install old PM to iBook

I have an old version of PM (Aldus v5) that I used to use on my old Macs about once a year, either to access a form I'd created once upon a time, or to create something new.
I've bought an iBook G4, OS 10.4.11, allows me to run OS9 apps until I can afford to get new versions. PM 5 came on floppies, I copied the floppies to CD, but when I tried to install to my iBook from the CD, the Installer asked me for the next floppy.
I also had Illustrator v5 on floppies (I use Illustrator far less than PM!), burned the floppies to a CD, then installed from the CD to my iBook in mere seconds. Obviously a different Installer application.
I don't use either nearly enough to justify spending hundreds of dollars for new programs, and the prospect of LEARNING a new app or version does not make me a happy camper, either.
Can anyone tell me how I get my old PM onto my "new" laptop?

I had no problem installing PM5 from floppies and running it on my G3 (beige 333MHZ Minitower).
The problem is that the Installer program expects to run from a floppy drive. The Installer begins (in Classic), but then it pops a dialog box asking for the next floppy, with a drawing of two floppies, and arrows between them.
This is exactly how this Installer worked on my older Macs, but since my iBook doesn't HAVE a floppy drive, I'm trying to fool it by installing from a CD.
BTW, I also tried to access the floppy drive on my G3 from my iBook over the network, but it seems it can't be done.
Since PM5 was published by Aldus, before Adobe bought it, I figure that accounts for the different Installer program.
Also, I've had NO problem with any other old app installing or working on my iBook. (Of course there are old apps that I just never use and haven't tried to install....)

Unfortunately I've realized, after looking carefully at that "ID your iBook" article I linked above, that it doesn't enable you to distinguish reliably between some models on the basis of visual cues alone, and some of the ones that could be very hard to tell apart require different minimum versions of OS 9.
So I'm going to propose an alternate approach to getting Classic onto your iBook — one that probably won't cost you anything. This method will NOT enable you to start the iBook up in OS 9. It will only enable you to use OS 9 in Classic mode, that is, within OS X.
Start up the old desktop G3 and check the version of OS 9 that's installed on it. If it's connected to the internet, download the necessary OS 9 updaters (linked in my first reply above) to the G3 and apply them to its installed OS. (If the desktop G3 doesn't have internet access, download the updaters to the iBook while running in OS X, then copy them to the G3's hard drive using a USB flash drive or a burned CD.) When you've finished upgrading the G3's OS to 9.2.2, copy the System Folder from that computer onto the iBook's hard drive. In the Classic pane of System Preferences, designate that System Folder to be used for the Classic environment. OS X will probably tell you it needs to update some files for Classic operation. OK that, and you should soon be ready to use your old applications in Classic mode within OS X.

Can't Install Old Themes (using iDVD '08 on Leopard)

I have a problem opening old projects (created using iDVD 3 or 4, can't remember) in iDVD '08 because I'm not able to install the old themes that are necessary. When I try to download the themes the software update program doesn't seem to find them as an available update. Trying to install them from my Max OS X disc fails with an error message that I need at least iDVD version 7.0.
Any ideas?

iDVD will be on the system install disk. Use Pacifist to locate, extract and install iDVD from it. Move your current iDVD to another location or rename it so you can go back to it after the themes are installed. You might even be able to locate the themes package with Pacifist and just extract and install them. I'd look at that first.

I have a few software programs that I need advice on whether I can install them on the new Mac Pro.
Absynth 4 - Has Universal Binary but is for OSX 10.4
Trilogy Bass - Early Copy for OS9
DFH Superior - Early copy for Mac OS 10.2
Can the above be installed to my new Mac Pro or should I just forget it and not bother??

Absynth 4 runs OK with the latest versions from NI (download the updaters using Service Center)
Trilogy.... Forget it... can run using a Wrapper, but it's really bad. (Does work though! Downloads from Spectrasonics. Much better to get the new Trilian instead.
Superior... latest versions run OK (DL from Toontrack)

you can if your ibook is intel. if it's PPC then you need a firewire DVD drive not USB. also, if you have another Mac, you can boot your in target mode, connect it to the second computer and install leopard from there. The second mac has to have the same architecture as yours (both intel or both PPC).

Old Logic + a new Mac = can't open old projects anymore. De/re-install?

Hi everybody,
maybe someone can advise me with this problem:
I bought a new Mac recently, did install a fresh OSX 10.5 and then used migration assistant to transfer my old user account from my old Mac (10.4), incl. all files. It did take a night, but it worked - or so I thought. Actually all applications work as they should, except for Logic. I had to re-authorize a few plug-ins, but then all seemed to be cool. I can open a new project, record audio, midi, add plug-ins, all cool. But I ended up with 3 problems, which are really annoying:
1) EXS24 couldn't find most of the samples anymore. Most, not all. I have 4 internal HDs, one for the system, one for audio recordings, one for samples, one for "other stuff". 2 of these disks came from the old Mac, 2 new ones, content copied from old Mac. In the EXS prefs I set "search for samples" to "all volumes", but it still didn't work perfectly. Finally I bought EXSManager Pro and now it seems to work again. I didn't try ALL samples yet, but the +/- 20 EXS instruments I tried, did load all samples.
2) Space Designer doesn't load impulse responses for the presets anymore. They're there and at the right place. I can load SD and import an existing impulse file, no problem. But the presets don't find the required files anymore.
3) Now - and this is the worst one - I can't open old projects anymore. I just can't. It starts loading, I see the rainbow thing (don't know the right word), it turns black & white and that's it. You can watch this forever and nothing happens.
Regarding all 3 issues:
I don't get any error messages. Logic doesn't crash, I can't click 'apple-.' to stop loading/searching. It just doesn't open the file. I had a coffee, a pizza, I let it try for 2 hrs+, but neither did it load a SD preset or an old song file. All I can do is manually quit Logic.
But when I open Logic with the CTRL-button down and click "no" to core audio I can open all songs. Of course I can not hear a tone then, but it's all there. Opening a song takes 3 secs then. I tried to safe a song then with a different name, re-started Logic with core audio but same result. It get's "stuck".
Of course I checked user permissions and all the usual trouble shooting clicks, but still Logic has a mind of it's own. I installed a 2nd user with admin rights, though still the same, plus all the 3rd party plug-ins refusing to work.
Now I was thinking, should I de-install Logic and re-install from the original CDs maybe. And if so, is there anything special I have to take care of? Like manually removing any prefs or cache files?
Or completely re-install the whole Mac? (pleeease no....)...
If anybody has any idea, it'd be highly appreciated.

Here's something I found out in the meantime, maybe this is interesting for somebody or maybe - problem's not totally solved - enough info for any of you to give me further advice.
When I start Logic Core Audio driver de-activated, I can open old songs. Then I save them in a new folder with all audio files and a new name. And I remove all EXS24 instruments as well as the Space Designer. I quit Logic, re-open with Core Audio activated and I can open the song.
Problem no.1: EXS24 instruments don't find the appropriate samples, but EXSMananger Pro did help me with this. Same problem with Space Designer, which doesn't find the impulse responses, connected to a certain preset.
Two questions, every idea would be great!
- Is there any way to teach Space Designer Presets where to look for impulse respones. I can load IR samples directly and create a new preset, but I can't use my old ones.
- Is it possible to install Logic from scratch over an existing version? Or how should I de-install everything connected with Logic and then install a fresh version from CD?

No, you dont have to uninstall Creative cloud from the other machine. You can use your Adobe ID to download and install the software on the other machine. Please ensure that you don't use both machine at the same time.

The mozilla-derived Firefox-based browser known as Tenfourfox does a fair job and is about due for code upgrade near the end of this year from version 17 to version 24. Tenfourfox can run in Tiger 10.4.11 + Leopard 10.5.8.

I have & use both Tenfourfox + SeamonkeyPPC versions in my PPC G4 Macs. (My third choice is iCab...)
These both play well together and can be run simultaneosly without odd effects, unlike what can happen if you were to run the original Firefox and then launch Tenfourfox; as those share resources. I use SeaMonkey PPC for my web mail login via google Notifier, and have that set as the default browser through use of Safari's preference settings. Even though my first browser choice is Tenfourfox.
You can choose to 'enable plugins' of stuff that by default is turned off in tenfourfox, for security reasons, such as an older no-longer supported version of adobe's Flash. However, video such as youtube content will often automatically work OK from most sites via Tenfourfox now.
{There's also a seamonkey 'modern version' for intel-based macs w/ later OS X, not at the seamonkeyPPC site...}

I've been using Photoshop since version 4. Worked up to CS2, but not the suite. My old computer with XP died and the new one has Windows 7. Can I install it on the new one? I'm terrified to try because I am NOT a computer expert. Can I get help on this? Is CS3 (alone, not the suite) compatible with Windows 7? I only use Photoshop and InDesign and don't need all the extras. I went to a friend's house and tried Photoshop in her CS3 Suite. I can't figure out how to even cut things out using paths. Is CS 3 Photoshop (not suite) comparible to CS2? Please help me.

and download the two needed programs (note the serial numbers on the download page) and download and then install the two programs using the serial numbers from the download page.
you can probably just install on your win 7 computer without using compatibility mode.

I have a couple questions:
1) I currently have Snow Leopard on my one computer and on another computer I just have Leopard. I am purchasing Mountain Lion from the App Store today and am going to install it onto my computer with Snow Leopard. Can I then take my old Snow Leopard disk and instal it onto my other computer?
2) When installing Mountain Lion onto my computer, will everything (Files, applications, games, etc) remain? Or does it wipe everything out?
3) I ultimately want Mountain Lion on both of my computers, does that mean I need to buy two copy's? Or can I down the same copy of Mountain Lion from the App Store on both computer and install?

1) If SL was the original OS installed on that computer, you can't install it on a different computer. The DVDs are tied to the original computer.
Technically, if they are tied to anything it would be the computer model, not the physical computer itself. That means you could use it to install OS X on any computer with which those discs are compatible as long as you did not install on more than one computer at a time. I know this is a tad nit-picky, but that's the way it happens to be. No intended offense. Just hoping to be helpful.
