Can't install on FireWire drive?

I have a Firewire drive with 48 GB available attached to my MacBook Pro running )S 10/5/7
I have the Tiger disks that came with the MacBook, as well as the upgrade (to Lepoard) DVD.
When I try to install Tiger on the FireWire disk, I get a message: "You cannot install OS X on this disk. OS X cannot start up from this disk".
Below is the System Profiler report on the Firewire disk... Why can I not install onto it?

Mac OS X can't be installed onto a drive using this partition map type on an Intel Mac, but it can be cloned to it and the Intel Mac can boot from it. A Mac OS X 10.5 installation can also be done on a PowerPC Mac and the drive moved.

I've cloned my drive, then attemped to boot up from it, everything loads in fine, but it asks for my name & password, and will not accept my password! This is extremely frustrating, and I've done everything I can think of to sync the two drives, even hand copying the keychain folder from my computer to the external, but it still won't work!

  • Can I install a super drive dvd buner?

I have a G4 (466 MHZ) I would like to buy a digital movie camera and make DVDs on the computer from video I have taken. I do not have a dvd burner in the G4.
My question: Can I install a super drive or use an external dvd burner with the current computer?
    Thank you.
    G4 - 433mh   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Fred's reply is 2007 , but a few years ago, I used my ol' reliable friend, my Cube/450 for creating DVDs.. it needed a looooong encoding time (usually over night), but it does work ...
    but...
with 10.2, use old versions of iDVD (4 or 2...)
    don't upgrade to QT 7...
be sure, the internal drive has allways 10, better 20GB free....
and, iDVD≤5 does not support external, firewire connected burners... so, if you're able to use a screwdriver, install any nice Pioneer at a free internal IDE connection; or, dare to use a 'hack', http://patchburn.de/ (english spoken), to teach iDVD4 to use external drives...
... that's all not state of the art, lege artis ... but... for less than 50$ you get a DVD-burning Mac..
    ... a slow burning Mac ...

  • How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??

How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??
i have 2 IDE hard disks & 2 CDROM drives: can install SATA hard disk added to these drives or do i have to remove some???
& if it can be added, can i install 2 SATA drives???
    THX in advance

The 3 versions of this board that are available are:
    875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0)
    875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)
All of these boards will have the following ports provider by the chipsets ICH5R south bridge.
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
    2 x PATA (Supporting 4 IDE devices)
All 6 of these can be used at the same time (provided you are using win XP or 2K) you just need to make sure yor BIOS is set right.
    ->INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS
    ->ON-CHIP IDE CONFIG
ATA CONFIG: S-ATA ONLY or P-ATA ONLY
    S-ATA/P-ATA KEEP ENABLED: YES
    OPERATE MODE:
If you set to "legacy mode" S-ATA are set to channel 1 and 2 and P-ATA to channel 3 and 4. If you set to "native mode" P-ATA are channel 1 and 2 and S-ATA 3 and 4. You can only use the raid functionfon SATA in native mode.
If you have the 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0) you will also have the following ports provided by the Promise PDC20378 PCI controller:
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
1 x PATA (Supporting 1 Master IDE HDD drive)
The PATA port is limited to 1 Master HDD by the lite BIOS. This can in theory be upgraded to the full BIOS supporting a master and a slave, but this may obviously void your warranty.
So the answer to your origional question is:
    2 x SATA HDDs and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0) or 875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    or
    4 x SATA HDDs, 1 x IDE HDD (2 if you modify the BIOS) and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)

Tried installing Illustrator CC but ran out of disk space on primary drive... how can I install on secondary drive?

Run_Esperanza how much space do you still have available on your primary drive?  It is possible to customize the installation destination within the Creative Cloud Desktop application.  You can find more details at Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.
Please be aware that you will need disk space on the primary drive to installed shared components plus contain the temporary files for installation.

  • Lenovo b560 can't install nvidia display driver

hello i've learned that lenovo b560 computers got 2 graphic cards one is intel hd graphics other is nvidia 310m but i can't install the nvidia driver it always gives the no compatible drivers found error :/

    hi Frost1,
    Welcome to the Forums.
The B560 with Intel+Nvidia graphics uses the Nvidia Optimus Technology to switch between the Intel GPU (for power saving) and the Nvidia GPU (for applications that requires more processing power).
If you have Windows 7, try the following:
    1. Restart the machine and hit F8. On the menu, select "Disable driver signature enforcement".
       - Sample image
    2. Install these drivers then reboot:
1st:   Intel Onboard Graphics Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)
2nd:  NVIDIA Display Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)
If you still get the error, can you PM me your serial number or indicate your machine type (e.g., 0679-3JU) to check the PC specs.

  • Trying to install on MacBookPro with Parallels and Windows 8.1. Downloaded the CreativeCloud.exe but says I can't install from network drive

I sometimes like to use Photoshop CC and Lightroom on the Windows side of my MacBookPro with Parallels. I had to reinstall Parallels and also Windows 8.1 recently and am trying to reinstall some of the software that I had previously on the Windows side. I downloaded the CreativeCloud.exe program and when I try to install it from the Windows side, get a message that I can't install Creative Cloud from a network drive. Where can I put the CreativeCloud.exe so I can install it?
    Thanks!

You probably need to check your drive setup for the Parallels environment. Nothing to do with Adobe.

  • Can't see external firewire drive (DOS Fat 32) over network

When I connect to another computer via airport (old/slow airport) I can't see a firewire 400 drive that is connect to the computer. The drive is mounted and working properly on the networked computer.
The only caveat I can think of is that it has been formated as a DOS Fat 32 file system. Could this have anything to do with it not being shared?
    Any other ideas if not?

  • Can I install a 30gb+ drive in a 1G?

Posted this question here a while ago, gonna try again:
Hi, I've got a 20gb 3G, I'm at the point where I need to upgrade to a bigger mp3 player, and I'm really interested in a 1G (rather than a newer iPod model) for a number of reasons. However, obviously I need something substantially BIGGER than 20gb to make my time worthwhile, and 1G only went up to 10.
So... are 1Gs compatible with 3, 4, or 5G drives? Could I buy a larger (maybe 40gb or 60gb) drive and install it in an old first-gen model, or has the actual modelling of the drive/mobo changed since then so that it wouldn't fit? Really looking for an answer here, as if anyone can tell me that it works, I'll be buying a used 1G.
Of course, since the newer drives are so much smaller, I realize that I'll have to put extra padding and whatnot in the 1G, but that's not a problem; I'm just worried about compatibility.
    Thanks for any help!

    Sure:
ATA is the standard for most hard drives. the ipods use a type called ATA-5.
"Advanced Technology Attachment. A disk drive implementation that integrates the controller on the disk drive itself. There are several versions of ATA, all developed by the Small Form Factor (SFF) Committee:
ATA : Also known as IDE (Integrated, or Intelligent, Drive Electronics) supports one or two hard drives, a 16-bit interface and PIO modes 0, 1 and 2.
ATA-2 : Supports faster PIO modes (3 and 4) and multiword (DMA modes (1 and 2). Also supports logical block addressing (LBA) and block transfers. ATA-2 is marketed as Fast ATA and Enhanced IDE (EIDE).
    ATA-3 : Minor revision to ATA-2.
    Ultra-ATA : Also called Ultra-DMA, ATA-33, and DMA-33, supports multiword DMA mode 3 running at 33 MBps.
ATA/66 : A version of ATA proposed by Quantum Corporation, and supported by Intel, that doubles ATA’s throughput to 66 MBps.
ATA/100 : An updated version of ATA/66 that increases data transfer rates to 100 MBps.
ATA is also called Parallel ATA."
    -From http://www.x-emi.com/tech_terms.html
Anyway, you can just buy any ATA-5 drive (Or get it from like another iPod) & then install it into yours.

You can also install any CompactFlash Card, or CompactFlash MicroDrivein a 1st gen.

  • Can I install a 3TB drive in my mid-2007 24" iMac?

I'd like to know if I can install a 3TB drive in my mid-2007 24" iMac. The OTW page for this model says that 2TB is the maximum, but I think it was written before 3TB drives became available. Does anyone know if the controller will recognize drives larger than 2TB?

    Hi,
First off it would need to be Serial ATA (3 Gb/s) compatible.
Looks like 4 TB is no problem in my research at OWC...

  • Can't daisy-chain Firewire drives reliably from 1-port Powerbook. Hub??

I have found that I cannot get a daisy-chained Firewire drive to mount more than 50% of the time. This problem doesn't happen with Tiger with the same drives. I have tried 4 different brands of late-model Firewire drives (Iomega, Smartdisk, Maxtor, and Seagate) with different cables and what happens is that a drive that is directly attached to the 12" Powerbook will mount, but the second chained drive fails to mount a majority of the time. Since I only have one Firewire port, this is preventing me from using more than one drive at a time, and I lost two Firewire drives to corruption today. Three out of four partitions lost contained bootable backups of Leopard and Tiger. Ouch!
This issue could prevent from using Leopard with my Powerbook, which is supposed to be Leopard-compatible. I can't remake the clones too easily with only being able to attach one drive at a time. I am thinking I will order a Firewire hub and try that, but I am not sure if that would be a solution, and I am wondering why I can always daisy-chain under Tiger, and not under Leopard. Does anyone have experience with Firewire hubs and Firewire operation details? Will I be able to get reliable Firewire with a hub?

I have exactly the same problem !
    I have found this :
Using Multiple FireWire Devices at the Same Time
Power Macintosh computers can transfer perfect digital video (DV) on FireWire when no other devices are using the FireWire bus. If you have problems transferring digital video, make certain that no other FireWire devices are being used at the same time. Turning on a DV camera that is already connected may cause a FireWire hard disk to stop working. If this happens, turn off the camera and verify that the hard disk has recovered. Then unplug the FireWire cable from the camera, turn the camera on, and reconnect the FireWire cable to the camera. Check with the hard disk vendor for a possible firmware update to prevent this problem.

At the moment I can't upset what I'm doing to test it but I intend to do that as soon as I finish copying transferring...

  • Can't install new nVidia driver 301.42

I have the Lenovo U410 and the nVidia control panel tells me a new driver update is available, version 301.42 for the 610M card. I have the 295.53 installed. But when I download the driver, it says I can't install because there isn't a compatible card. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Well I think you should try this driver instead
It's 304.79, and I know it's for Windows 8, but it works anyway.
It is the 64 bit version, so if it says it's incompatible, then here's a link for the 32 bit as well

  • OS 10.4 install on Firewire drive

I want to create abootbale firewire drive.
Do I need to go through a full (easy) install onto the firewire drive from the OS dvd, or is there an easier way to copy only the files I will need to boot the computer from the firewire drive?
    Thanks.

    Two options:
    1. perform a new installation booting from the OS X installation disc.
    2. copy the existing internal drive using Disc Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, Super Duper, Prosoft Data Backup, Intech QuickBack, Retrospect, Deja Vu, etc... take your pick.
Note that not all FW external drives, while they may claim compatible with the Mac, will actually be able to boot a Mac. It depends on the chipset in the FW enclosure, they are not all created equal with respect to booting a Mac.
