Can't install on iMac 20"

Having major problems installing SL on my iMac 20". I checked the Hard Drive and there are no errors, I also repaired all permissions on the disk and I'm still having the same problem. Here's what happens:
Install starts fine, says it will take about 58 mins for upgrade, it then reboots about 10 mins in and says install will continue after reboot. After reboot, the SL disk ejects and nothing continues. About this Mac still says OS 10.5
I disconnected all external drives, shut down my Mozy automatic backup and am now out of ideas --- can someone shed some light for me?
Thanks in advance for your help.
John

Figured it out ---- the culprit was my wacom bamboo. Evidently everything needs to be disconnected from your iMac before you install SL, including mice and keyboards that are not apple....With that said, the only thing connected to your iMac before installing should be the standard apple keyboard and mouse.
Once I disconnected my wacom and reconnected the standard apple mouse, everything went smoothly and I was upgraded with no problems in about 50 mins.

How can I install my iMac's Aperture on my MacBrookPro

What is your MacOS X version? Is your Aperture version the recent Aperture 3.5.1? Your profile signature "Mac OS 9.1.x? " cannot be right; do you mean Mac OS 10.9.1.x? And is the system the same on both Macs?
If you bought Aperture from the AppStore, launch the AppStore on your MBP:
Sign into the AppStore  with the AppleID you used to buy Aperture on your iMac.
Download Aperture from the "Purchased" tab and let it install.
If you bought Aperture  as a boxed retail version, use the Installer CD/DVD and serial number to install Aperture  on your MBP.
If you bought Aperture online as a trial version, and bought a serial number to unlock the trial, use the trial installer you downloaded.
If you no longer should have the installation media or the downloaded trial installer, you can convert your working Aperture installation to an AppStore licence by upgrading your iMac version to Aperture 3.5.1.  Then you can install and reinstall from the AppStore on all your Macs, if they are running Mavericks.

  • TS3824 How can we install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update if the screen is white and I can't get to the Apple menu?

How can I install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update 2.0, if the screen is white and I can't get to the Apple menu?  My computer has 5 vertical purple lines against white screen at startup before the Apple logo appears and the spinning gear...then everything disappears and the screen hangs on the white screen.  I have tried unplugging and removing all my peripherals and the COMMAND, OPTION, P & R set of keys and still nothing.  I have tried COMMAND C to start up from cd and it only tells me to turn off the computer and turn it back on.  I found information on Apple's Support pages regarding the iMac Graphics Firmware Update but I am unable to download and install if I can't get to the Apple menu.  Can anyone help?

You may have hardware problem, I think a visit to your local Apple Store or AASP is in order.

  • How much ram can I install on iMac 2010, 21.5" i5 2.5ghz

    Hi
I am considering to buy the cheapest iMac 21.5
    http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html
From the spec, it says it can only be upgrade to 8GB.
    But from the support center,
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP623?viewlocale=en_US
All models could upgrade to 16GB.
    Anyone knows why?

The 8GB max might also refer to the "Late 2011 iMac Education Model" with an i3 processor with has a indeed a max. Ram of 8GB.
Everywhere else the 21.5 iMac is said to support 16GB RAM (4 x 4GB).
    EveryMac and OWC/Macsales say it supports up to 32GB (4 x 8GB).

  • Can't install on imac

I have Imac late 2006, Dual Core 2 GB, 4GB RAM, with OSX,10.7.5. Why cannot upgrade to Mavericks from Appstore?
    Any advise?

    It's pretty simple actually.
    2006 iMacs are not supported.
An iMac has to be mid 2007 or newer to be able to run Mavericks.

  • Is there any way windows 8.1 can be installed on an early 2008 iMac?

Hello apple community! I've had various desktop maps since the mid-90's, but over the past 6 years I have found myself limited many times due to my computer being incompatible with many third party programs and various games that are only supported by windows. Therefore, I have finally gone out and purchased windows 8.1 from my local best buy to be run alongside Yosemite. I brought in all of my computer specifications and was told that I would be able to run the operating system.
The minimum requirements are as follows:
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2
    RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
    My specs are as follows:
    iMac (20-inch, Early 2008)
    OS X Yosemite (Version 10.10)
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (just updated)
Hard disk space: 332.3 GB free of 639.28 GB (plus a new 1 TB external drive that is in the process of being filled)
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
Apparently my computer can only run bootcamp 4 and not bootcamp 5. Therefore, windows 8 is not supported for it can only be installed with bootcamp 5.
Sources: 1.Boot Camp 4, OS X Lion and Mountain Lion: Frequently asked questions - Apple Support
                   2. Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support
However, I've read articles about people possibly getting past these limitations, but they don't exactly follow my issue and may be outdate. Such as, http://www.videograndpa.com/?p=2628. I've seen posts from people in the forms saying that they are running windows 8 on their early 2008 mac, but they are from over a year ago. I've also read that apple may have had support for these operating systems, but dropped them, but the links to this information were broken. Best Buy has agreed to let me return Windows 8.1, but only for store credit. That is not fair if it turns out that I can not install it operating system when I was told I could by their employee.
So, in conclusion, I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can install Windows 8.1 on my iMac from early 2008 with Yosemite and if they could walk me through it or link me somewhere that can. Thank you for your time.
    William

Don't use a virtual machine, it's kinda cpu intensive. You CAN install windows 8.1 on your 2008 iMac. I know this because just a couple weeks ago I installed an official windows 8.1 disk on my 2009 iMac. You do NOT need to use bootcamp for it although you WILL need the boot camp drivers. Just put the drivers onto a thumb drive. You will need to install them manually, it's really easy though, so don't get discouraged. The only thing you need bootcamp for is to download the drivers onto the thumb drive. You can also download drivers for bootcamp version 5 from the apple website.
Here is how you do it: Go to disk utility inside applications folder and then utilities folder. Add a second partition to your mac and format it as FAT32.
Put the windows disk in your computer and reboot your computer. Hold down the OPTION key and then choose the "windows" disk then hit enter. Follow the instructions.
In the beginning there will be a screen asking you to select which partition you want to install windows on, highlight it, and then click on "format" because it is then going to reformat the partition as NTFS. It only takes a second. Just follow the installation instructions, it's pretty straight forward from there. And just to forewarn you, apple doesn't care to update the drivers for SOUND, people with iMac's running windows don't have sound so you will need a third party sound card adapter with a headphone and microphone jack and use either headphones or an external speaker. I got a cheap one from ebay for just a few bucks. I use the "Syba" brand and it works, it even plays that pretty windows startup sound. All sounds work, even youtube.
Thank me later! By the way, I think you will find that windows 8.1 runs way faster and smoother than mavericks or yosemite. The mac os's have gotten pretty buggy and bloated over the years and so I think we are making a switch to windows at the right time. Everyone is saying how much better microsoft has gotten and I can tell. I have everything pretty much set up how I like it in my windows 8.1 partition and it's pretty fast. Also, it is WORTH IT to pay for the MacDrive software. Just google it. It will enable you to view and change any apple formatted disk/drive, including your mac osx partition on your internal hard drive. This is important for me because all of my music is on my mac partition in itunes and I need it to add music to my iPod classic 160gb but with macdrive I can listen to the music in vlc player or windows media player. I don't think I will install itunes on windows because everyone says the windows version is buggy.

  • Can I install an 8Gb Ram Module on a 2010 Imac?

Acording to apple support iMac (Mid 2010): Memory specifications - Apple Support, "You can use RAM module sizes of 2 GB or 4 GB in each slot", but clearly is more cost efficient to be able to install an 8Gb and a 4Gb, as the iMac already comes with two 2Gb modules, the iMac only takes 4 cards and it has a max RAM memory capacity of 16Gb.

  • I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why?

I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac 27" with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why? I first did all the software updates needed, downloaded the driver software to a 32Gb flash drive formatted as FAT32, fired up Bootcamp Assistant, inserted the Windows 8.1 Full version 64 bit installation DVD as requested, and got as far as partitioning (tried this at 82 Gb for the Windows partition), then the MAC rebooted but halted before getting to the login page. Then a black screen came up with the error message: 'non-system disk - Press any key to reboot'. I did this and nothing happened. I was forced to shut down forcibly then restart with my finger held down on the option key. Then a screen came up with two icons: the macintosh HD icon and the Windows DVD icon. I double-clicked on the Windows DVD icon and the MAC came up with another black screen and error message: 'CDBoot: Couldn't find BOOTMGR'. Had to shut down forcibly again and restart as before, this time ejecting the Windows DVD first. Then I repartitioned my MAC back to all OSX. What the **** do I do now? Applecare couldn't help me beyond this point. They said to contact Microsoft. I notice a lot of other MAC owners have had similar problems.
    Please help? tagjsmith.

  • Can't install Snow Leopard to iMac

When I try installing snow leopard on my iMac I get the message, can't install this disc currently used for time machine backups (the disc is the iMac's internal hard drive). I tried installing with the computer already on and by booting directly from the install disc and get the same message.

applefangirl, SL won't install on any disk that contains a "backupd" subdirectory. It thinks your TM backups are on this disk. If your backups are elsewhere, which they probably are, than delete this subdirectory on disk and SL will install.
Verify that you have backups elsewhere first!!!

    "has forgotten the password"
From the information supplied, I'd guess that the machine has been loaded with OS X 10.2 (Jaguar). You need the 10.2 installation disc to reset the password.
It is not wise to buy any Mac without all the original installation discs, and any discs required for a later OS which may have been installed.
It won't boot from a USB stick or USB drive. It may be possible to boot from a firewire external drive running OS X 10.2 or later, or in firewire target mode from another OS X Mac. It won't boot from an external DVD drive.
That model originally shipped with OS9 and either OS X 10.0 or 10.1 (neither of which was worth installing).
    <350 MHz / 512 K / L2 64 MB / 6 GB / 24 CD / 56k>
Presumably this is the specification printed on the underside of the casing, in which case 6GB is the original HD size. The model did later ship with up to 40GB however, and it's certainly possible that it may have been replaced.
One caveat; some 6GB models could only be booted from a 6GB or smaller partition, so any upgrade would have to be partitioned accordingly.
If you get hold of a retail OS X disc 10.2 or later (but not 10.5), BSD is available from the installer as an optional installation (with the main OS). It's unlikely the previous owner would have installed it however.
Can't help you much further than that I'm afraid, but I'm sure there'll be another bus along in a minute
