Can't install OS 8 on powermac G3 - help

Hi
I'm trying to install OS 8 on a powermac G3.
I have just got a "powermac G3 OS 8 CD" from a guy on Ebay but there are a couple of nasty scratches on the disc. I have tried to install OS 8 by doing the following but nothing has happened:
1. Inserted CD and started computer -> get a flashing face and ?
2. Inserted CD, held down the C key(as it says on the disc) and started computer -> get a flashing face and ?
3. Inserted the CD after the system starts and is already displaying the flashing face and ?
A PC would have let me know what the problem is but the mac just smiles at me...help?
How can I tell if it's the disk? I did a copy on my pc which seemed to work but it behaved the same. I also ran the disc through nero cd/dvd speed 'scandisc'. It did not find any bad sectors but looking at the disc I find it hard to believe that it is readable.
Does the G3 support 7.5.3? If so where can I download a CD image?

If you have, literally, a beige computer marked Power Macintosh G3, whether a desktop, minitower or all-in-one, it supports no lower an OS than 8.0. This was the last OS with obligatory HFS (Standard) hard drive formatting. If the HDD of your machine had been formatted with OS 8.1 and above, which can use HFS+ (Extended) formatting, even if you were able to start up from the CD you might not have been able to see the files on the HDD. "Wherehave_all_my_filesgone?" is the message.
On the other hand, if your Mac is a blue and white tower, the least OS that it will support is 8.5.1. Be assured that Phil advised you correctly.
The display of Quizzical Floppy in place of Happy Mac illustrates only failure of the system (Startup Manager) to find a valid System Folder, and no more than that. The failure may result from:
a) absence (physically, or through failure) of the default startup device, here the HDD or the intended startup CD. Do you get any joy from a floppy drive and DiskTools diskette (if you have a beige G3)?
b) loss of pointers (which are preserved by the backup battery) from PRAM to a default startup device, or
c) corrupt boot blocks on the startup device (which is what Happy Mac shows to have been found), or
d) a corrupt or missing System Folder (which is what the boot blocks point to), or a System Folder that is temporarily unblest.
These can usually be solved, with the essential prerequisites of appropriate diskettes, or external bootable drive, and install/startup CD. What your prerequisites are or can be depends on your Mac model.

hello forum it seems as if i have miss understood something about installing C:\AS10gNT_Disk1,2,3.
1: i have unziped all the 3 zip files in there respectivelly folders.
for examples.C:\AS10gNT_Disk1\Disk1.
i have oracle 9is db installed on my pc,
so in a previous maill somebody adviced me, plus the installation errors showed me that i could't installed it in C:\oracle\ora92 witch is where I have oracle9is db installed.
Then I was told that I could just give any new oracle_home and path.
but this is not working for me.
when I run oracle universal installation.

Enter or select an oracle home name and its full path.
as i have to enter a different name from my previous one where oracle9isdb is installed,
then I write
name oracleServer,
path c:\oracleServer when i do that i get the following errors.
There was a problem in accesing the staging area.
Pleased make sure the specified values for source and destiantion are valid

actually I can only tell how it worked for me. I unzipped all zips into teh same directory and ended up with
d:\stage\disk1
d:\stage\disk2
d:\stage\disk3
Then I started the installer from disk 1 and follwoed all teh instructions. I did specify an Oracle Home as OracleAsInfra for the infrastructure to be in d:\OracleAsInfra and similar for teh Midtier OracleAsMidtier to be in d:\OracleAsMidtier
The rest ran smoothly

2.1 TB for certain & some 3 TB drives work if Partitioned to less than 2.1 TB but then it must be GUID instead of APM, most important is if it is SATA I 1.5Gb/sec compatible.

Can't install files to downgrade qt. HELP

I need your help.. I have installed Anna but i can't download the packages. And when im trying to install the fies to downgrade qt ,a pop up message on the mobile screen says "unable to install"

Can I install internal HD from PowerMac G4 in my Mac Pro?

I have an old, Quicksilver PowerMac G4. After purchasing a Mac Pro, I want to use the internal storage from the old one as a backup system for the new one. Can I physically install the my 3 internal drives from the G4 into the 3 open slots on my Mac Pro? I know nothing about how the architecture of internal drives have changed since I bought them in 2004 (I'm assuming a LOT). I'd rather not keep the G4 sitting in my office, taking up space, and I thought this might be the best way to go about utilizing that HD space (I have about 280GB).

the first SATA were just a PATA with Marvel bridge slapped on and were not native SATA.
Perpendicular came later.
So it went from 60 to 75 and then to 105MB/sec and now outstrips even that.
15K SCSI went from 60 to 75 to 90 (the Maxtor Atlas 15K II was a nice little drive that gave the Cheetah a run for it).
As Maxtor was improving and Seagate was having terrible drive firmware issues it was however too late for Maxtor that had lost market confidence.
The "deathstar" was due to use of non-Lucent DSP but there too even though later models were fine and the 180 GXPs were golden, IBM first shed PC business and then IBM Hitachi business.
I never cared for Seagate beyond their Cheetah line, switched to Maxtor and while never had great luck with IBM Ultrastar SCSI their PATA and SATA were fine by me. And avoided the 75GXP Deathstars.
Yes a lot of change but I would go so far and to simplify as just the switch to SATA is all.

New tryin to learn MAC: Can't install 10.3 onto PowerMAC G4

i used the ALT key to boot to the blue screen! but it shows NO drives at all, and i have a 100GB & 160GB seagate installed inside my powermac G4!

Just as an addendum to my first response, you should get an Apple keyboard to get started with this machine. Used keyboards run as little as $5.
Also, when you finally do get booted to the OS install disk, before you can install, you will need to use Disk Utility to format the hard drives. Use Mac OS Extended-Journaled as the format when doing so.
1. Insert the Mac OS X CD.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the "C" key to start up from CD.
4. When the Installer screen appears, do not click Continue. Instead, choose Installer > Open Disk Utilities.
5. Select the hard drive to erase.
6. Click the Erase tab.
7. Select the volume format from the Volume Format pop-up menu.
8. Click OK.
9. Click Erase.

Can't install 10.5.1 update! help please!

i have written a post before but it is still unresolved.
i have installed the leopard os last week (erase and install) i can't run software update and the manual 110MB updater doesn't work, instead i get this message:
+"You cannot install Mac OS X Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."+ i also get the same message when i try to install the keychain update.. my startup disk has a free space of 25GB and i have fixed the disk's permissions before running the installer..
please help me to solve this.

If you have more than one account now (e.g., one created during the install, and one/more restored from a back up), have you tried installing the combo (110 MB) update from the account you created during the erase & install (the very first admin account created)? If not, try logging into that account and try installing the combo update and see if the problem goes away. Then do a permissions repair (it might take a while).

I want to install Designer, but I can't succeed either when install Oracle Designer 6i Release 4.5 or when install Oracle Designer 9i. I have installed Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0.1.0) standard edition for Windows NT on my machine. When I install Oracle Designer 6i, the setup proccess automaticly stopped at checking the dependence of the components, and when I install Designer 9i, it said that some important things couldn't find.
I don't know how to do,please help me.

Designer 6i Release 4.5 is not supported on Oracle9i
Standard Edition 9.2. I believe only 9i versions of
Designer are supported on the Standard Edition 9.2.
For 9i Designer, please can you tell me which version
of Designer you are trying to install (i.e. 9.0.2.0.0,
9.0.2.2.0 etc), if you are installing just Designer
and give me details of which items the error says are
missing?

I can't connect to database during the installation of soa suite just because I can't get over the page "Specify Database Connect Information". That might be something wrong with the hostname.

I can't download the patchsets from metalink because I do not have a metalink account. It is impossible for me to buy oracle's products for the reason that I am a student at school. I use oracle just for learning.
So it seems like that the only way I can go is to use XE. But I still want to ask you if there is another way for me to get the patchsets for db 10.2.0.1.

So, padraig, five weeks later, have you had any luck seeing this resolved?
Chat sessions with two different support techs, and Error 204 still prevents my CC update install.
Meanwhile my boss is paying for CC while I continue to use CS4.
I know I'll have to go back to Adobe support, but I'm hoping someone will find a solution and post it in the forum.

I can't install / uninstall Quicktime either! Please help

I've read all the posts on this subject and none of the advice has cured my problem. When I try to run the latest Quicktime install program (having uninstalled Quicktime earlier versions??) I have only 2 options - either Repair or Remove. So Quicktime still exists somewhere on my system? Both the options give the same result - a warning dialog with the following message. "The installer has encounted an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package The error code is 2356." Can someone help?

Thanks for the quick reply but I had tried all that already. To be sure though I just checked again. Windows Install cleanup reports no quicktime installation, there is no Quicktime folder in the C:\program files folder and the files are not present in the C:\Windows\system32 folder.
I also searched the entire PC and the files are not there at all. I also checked the QuickTimeInstallerF30.log located in my profile local settings\temp folder it shows the following:-

I'm logged in as the administrator too.
Error message is still the same! The other point to note is that after the error message the install program then looks as though it reverses it first few steps that were completed before the error message.

Why it is not possible to install flash player to Imac (Yosemite V. 10.10.2) I have tried many things but nothing is working. I have even deleted the existing flash player which didn't work.

This morning we resolved a problem that prevented Flash Player installations from completing for some of our Macintosh users.
If you encountered this problem, please delete any previously downloaded Flash Player installer and either:
1.) Download the installer again from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
2.) Download the stand-alone installer from http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player_osx.dmg
