Can't install OS X Mavericks, Ive a MacBook Pro "Late 2011"
When I click install app for OS X Mavericks in the App Store, the button changes to downloading but in the launchpad where the mavericks logo icon appears, shows a progress bar with maybe 1% complete and thats all, it never changes even after 3 hours.
Any suggestions to fix this?
Check to make sure the download hasn't paused. You should be able to do this in the dock. If it hasn't paused, try pausing it and then resume.

How can I install windows 8.1 on my macbook pro late 2013?
I bought a new Macbook pro 15" late 2013 and i want to install windows 8.1 on it. I tried several times but it always says me that windows cannot be installed on the partition that i made with bootcamp assistant.
Thank you for your answers
AlessandroYou can install Windows 8.1 using Boot Camp Assistant or by using a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox.
The Boot Camp Guides are located here: https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
The Boot Camp Discussion Community is located here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp

My macbook has been extremely slow for a while and after looking on this site I discovered I should look at the console - and noticed I had I/O timeouts all the time which I gather are a problem.
What can I do with my hard drive? If I back it up using time machine and erase the disk with zeros will the problem continue if I simply restore from time machine?
Or should I invest in a new hard drive - but if I buy a new hard drive is there something on my computer that will wreck that one as well? i use final cut pro/studio a lot and it's got to the stage where I can barely use it - do I need a 7200rpm hard drive? My current one is a 500gb 5400rpm.
I have 16gb of RAM in but since upgrading this from 4GB it made a difference to the speed for all of two seconds then the computer returned to its normal slow speed.
Would appreciate any help on this issue as I'm not particularly technical.I wouldn't worry too much about what the Console logs are showing... although I/O timeouts, if related to reading/writing to your disk may be a problem. I would have to see the whole Console message to know for certain...
Your hard drive is sure to be slowing you down with FCP. Your best bet would be to upgrade to an SSD, if you can afford it. It's the only way you're going to see a real speed increase in FCP as so many large temp/cache files are written to the drive.
If you can't afford a SSD, you may want to look at a 7200rpm SATA III drive (if your MBP supports SATA III - which model do you have? 2011 or later, I'm assuming, since you note that you've 16GB of RAM?).
You should also update your OS to 10.7.5 if your profile reading of 10.7.2 is correct. Won't help speed, but will be more reliable -> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1582.

Can't install windondows 8.1 on my macbook pro - format issue
Can't install windondows 8.1 on my macbook pro - format issue
Running latest version of Mavericks.
Followed the exact bootcamp proceduce.
Have official window 8.1 version on cd.
All goes well until I have to format the 65Gb partition. Disk=0 and partition=4
Can't get over it. Altough I formatted it via a hint found on the internet with "dislpart" in NTFS. Wich also went weel and give the labelname "BOOTCAMP". But still no luck.
I have two questions:
1/ How to start my mac again in normal mavericks mode?
2/ How can I overcome the windows installation issue?
Tried already a lot of hints found on the internet.First, make a time machine backup. You will need to erase ands reformat your hard drive. I had the same issue. The issue is that you can't install Windows using bootcamp without having the hard drive formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Do this from disk utility or recovery mode (hold down command and r at startup). Then you have to restore the backup to the hard drive. Then make a usb installer drive with bootcamp and then partition and install. Here's a tip: after you install bootcamp and are in the Windows desktop, go into the installer drive and then go into the bootcamp or support folder, then find a installer that contains the Apple bootcamp drivers. Also, you will need to convert the disk to an iso file. TO MAKE THE USB DRIVE FROM A DISC, USE THIS LINK

How can I install Snow Leopard on my 15" MacBook Pro without using its DVD drive?
How can I install Snow Leopard on my 15" MacBook Pro without using its DVD drive?
I'm assuming your dvd drive is broken? if you have a thumb drive large enough (8GB or better), you can use another computer to make a bootable image from the install dvd to the thumb drive. then you can install from the the thumb drive.

Can I install OS X Server on my Macbook Pro ?
Q1)
Can I install OS X Server on my Macbook Pro (mid 2010) and use it as a server in my small office network ?
Q2)
If i have OS X Server, can some of the client machines be windows Xp / 7 ? Will it work well ?A1: Yes.
A2: Yes. (Though this is dependent on exactly what you're planning to do. Windows Server and Active Directory will be a better choice for Windows distributed authentication, for instance.)
A3: are you going to have your MacBook Pro configured at a static IP address, with proper local DNS running on your server or some other LAN-local device (server provide and need local DNS, and referencing your ISP DNS won't work here), and will your server be available most- or full-time for the clients that are going to come to depend on the services from the server? If not, then this approach is probably not the best one. What happens to your environment and to any of your shared data if you're carrying your MacBook Pro server around and it happens to get dropped or lost or stolen?
A4: If you're "just" planning on serving storage to your other systems, then get a NAS device. Something akin to an Time Capsule, or a Synology NAS widget, or similar network-attached storage devices are available, flexible, and cost-effective. NAS devices are also usually rather less to manage than a full-blown server, too.
A5: If you have specific services or requirements in mind, somebody here might be able to provide a more specific answer.
TL;DR: Servers differ from clients in that a client outage generally adversely effects only one user, where a server outage generally adversely effects multiple users. -

What's the year and model number? If you go under Apple menu->About This Mac->More Info->System Report, you can find the model number - something like "MacBookPro8,3".

Can't install SMC Firmware Update for my MacBook Pro 15" early 2011
Can't install SMC Firmware Update for my MacBook Pro 15" early 2011
Check your Network control panel and turn off Auto-Proxy setting.
This is one of the top #4 "how can they do this' pet-peeve errors.
The other is the often slow 8 hrs to download 600MB even on 10Mb+ cable.
Another, 'the drive cannot be partitioned because there isn't enough contiguous unfragemented free space; some files are locked and cannot be moved."
If auto proxy isn't it, router/modem and DNS settings. -

I tried to install windows 7 in my macbook pro late 2011 but i tried to create partions after it installed and it turn to dynamic disks and i can't access mac or win 7 what should I do i cant format it because i dont have a backup
It's not that you can't format it because you have no backup, it's because you'll lose everything when you do. Lesson learned. Always have a backup.

Installing window 7 to macbook pro late 2011
I am trying to install Windows 7 to a Macbook Pro (late 2011). I got this far: After downloading Bootcamp 5 and going into Bootcamp assistant and clicking both, a) Download the latest windows support software from Apple, & b) install Windows 7 or later version.
NEXT: Installed external 8G usb drive for Windows support software to download to
NEXT: In about 10 seconds it downloads then never moves on the "visual" download scale???????? THIS IS WHERE I GET STUCK
ANY HELP WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATEDWelcome to Apple Support Communities
As it looks like you can't download the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant, download it at the Apple site > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Follow the steps to burn it to the USB drive.
Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and install Windows. Don't mark the option to download the Windows support software
