Can't install OSX on a Macbook with Windows XP!! alone on it

Hey,
I have a Macbook pro on which i have only Windows XP  . I want to install OS X10.5 on it and by no means i can boot the machine from DVD.
I have tried the this below,
1. To boot on Safe mode - dint work
2. To boot in Single user mode - dint work
3. Tried to open Firmware command-option-O-F - dint work
4. Tried to boot from DVD using 'C' -Dint work
5. Clicked 'options' button on boot, it will show, windows partition and CD but when i click on CD it will get stuck
Is there anyway, i can boot from Mac OS x 10.5 DVD and install it on this machine?
Thanks.

If the machine is older than  December 15, 2008, it may use the 10.5.6 retail installer shown on this tip, and possibly the 10.5.4, or 10.5.1, or 10.5.(0) retail installers depending on its age:
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2275
If the machine is newer than December 15, 2008, you must the 10.5 installer that came with it.
If the machine is newer than August 28, 2009, it won't support 10.5 at all, except possibly 10.5 Server.  Check the 10.5 server forum if that might be something that you are willing to consider.  Most everything that runs in 10.5 can in 10.6.
If the machine is newer than July 20, 2011, it can't run 10.6 at all, and must run 10.7 when it comes to Mac OS X client.  Again server editions may run as well.  The server forums are here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/servers_enterprise_software

  • Can't install osx on 2009 macbook pro

Hey guys i'm haveing a nightmare getting osx reinstalled on my macbook pro, firstly i have no experance with mac's but have always wanted too so when offered this macbook pro i snapped it up even with a dead HDD thinking it to be a very easy fix, so replaced the drive with a new one and still can't install osx
anyway here's whats going on, i booted the macbook with the instalation dvd it loads up as it should but when you get to the select drive part nothing is there so googled a few things and found the drive has to be set-up first so entered disk utility to partition and format the drive but get an error with whatever i do, i have removed and reseated the HDD cable and memory and have tried booting with only one stick to see if there was an error with one of the sodimm's, i have also tried accessing the AHT but none of the ways i have found work............ please if anyone can help me, please let me know

Thanks for the reply mate, sorry to say i have tried every option in disk util i've even tied a couple of terminal commands to do the same thing with no luck, i have however been able to remove the partition but that's where the good news ends as i can't create a new one..... is there anyway to prep the disk in windows? as i don't have an external case or another mac?
also what are the chances of the HDD cable being at fault? after more googeling i found someone with the same sort of problem's as me and he ended up replacing the cable http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/apple-notebooks/237964-cant-partition-brand-new -hard-drive.html unfortunatly i don't have an apple store anywhere near me so thats not an option but it's something i could do myself, the only problem is i don't have the £18 for a new one right now as i've had to buy a HDD and charger as well as the macbook and it's left me a little skint lol

  • HELP! I can't install OSX Mavericks on MacBook Air

Help! I just download and install OSX Mavericks on MacBook Air (2012), its already downloaded and installed but when booted, the wheels machine on the screen keep running. its even more an hour and i restarded it for severel times. but still not working. should I wait until the installation finished? for how long? 1, 2, or 3 hours?

Then the hard drive is corrupted. You will need to erase it then reinstall:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can't install OSX on a MacBook??

I'm trying to help one of my students. He purchased a MacBook (white) from his neighbor and asked me to install the software that belongs to the computer. The computer did not come with any of the original disks and it seems that it has been erased. I can't get it to start up and when I've tried to install the software using a set of MacBook disks that I have, but I keep getting a message that says that "I can't install the software on this computer". I've run the Disk Utilities that comes with the disk, but I can't seems to find too many options.
I don't have any idea what to do now and I feel bad about his computer. I've tried to see what's on the computer by using the Target Disk mode and so far I can't see anything on the computer. Like I said...I think it was erased completely. The computer seems to be pretty new, but that is all I have about it.
Please help!!! I really need some expert advice on this matter. Thanks for your help...

Although you have MacBook install package, the install package that ships with a new Mac purchase is model and build specific with build being the key word so your MacBook install package must be for a different MacBook build and will not work.
A difficult lesson to learn for those who purchase a used Mac that doesn't include the original install package that shipped with the Mac when new and if older than the current OS X version installed, say an upgrade with Tiger over Panther installed, the Tiger retail install package should also be included with the purchase.
Several important reasons for this with this particular reason being a very important one. The student may need or want to re-install the OS and all included software via an Archive & Install or an Erase & Install or install a particular application only along with needing the install package to run Disk First Aid repair.
Since it appears the seller erased the drive which requires the install package that shipped with this Mac when new, your student needs to ask his neighbor where the install package is which is worthless to the neighbor without the Mac model and build it is intended for.
If not, contact AppleCare to request a replacement install package for this Mac model and build.

  • Can't install Creative Media Lite - Clash with Windows XP Home SP

I've check that my system spec. meets Media Lite requirements and suspect a clash with XP SP3.
Any suggestions on how to complete the installation of Media Lite will be much appreciated.

Here's 2 messages from Creative Customer Support. Looks like there may be a clash with SP3 so, 'Come on Guys', let's get it fixed.
I will be forwarding this to our ASG, and we will be looking more into this matter. And we would probably have a patch released for this issue in the near future. Best Regards,Creative Customer Support ServicesCreative Labs Europe
I was able to talk to our Advanced Support Group (ASG) regarding this issue. And according to them, that it might be possible that SP3 would be the reason why you are unable to install the Creative ZEN Stone Starter Pack. According to our ASG, that the main difference between SP2 and SP3 is network security feature called Network Access Protection, which scans the integrity of a computer before connecting to a corporate network, which is absolutely useless for end users at home. As being one more security feature in Windows XP, this can possibly cause various problems with multimedia applications.

  • Install os x on macbook with windows 7 installed

Hallo. I have got macbook with only Windows 7 installed. How could I possibly get mac os x on it? Thank you

Yup, there have been a couple of users on these boards who have done just that. You start Boot Camp Assistant to create a drivers disk for Windows, and if necessary, remove the Boot Camp partition you just created. So now you have the necessary drivers for your Mac.
Boot to the Windows DVD and do a quick erase to NTFS of the only partition on the drive; your OS X partition. Install Windows and your drivers. The only working, bootable OS on your Mac is now Windows.
I asked one person why, and they said they never intended to use OS X, but wanted Apple's much more reliable hardware to run Windows on.

Do you have any other OS Installer Discs? Maybe OS 9? Borrow someone else's installer discs (they will need to be either the retail box or from exactly the same machine)?
Give them a try and see what happens. There is a chance that your OS installer discs have gone bad. If they are bad you will get some sort of error message that more often than not has absolutely nothing to do with what the actual error may be. It just knows that something did not work.
You might examine the discs themselves to see if there is any pitting or scratching on the bottom side. If there is pitting it will be very small and you will need to examine the disc closely to see them if they are there.
If you have access to Tech Tool Pro see what it has to say. Just because a drive passes a S.M.A.R.T. test does not necessarily mean that it is good though.

  • Install Leopard on a Macbook with Windows

I recently purchased a used 2007 Macbook and it came with only one partition and Windows XP installed. I am new to the Mac world and unfamiliar with BootCamp.
How would I go about partitioning and installing Leopard on this machine without killing the XP install?
    Thanks.

Bummer. I was hoping BootCamp came with some sort of partition manager. So is the recommended course of action to fdisk into separate partitions then install Leopard and reinstall Windows?

  • Can't install iTunes on new notebook with windows 8.1

First, sorry for my bad english, i hope you can understand what i am trying to say.
I got a new notebook and wanted to install iTunes. First it worked but then i needed to do a system restore because of a virus.
So iTunes was no longer on my notebook and i tried to reinstall it, but it does not work. I always get "try to install new, ERROR 7 (Windows error 5).
I searched through many communities and tried things like activating the Microsoft Frame Network or manual deinstalltion, restarting the computer, ...
    Please help me

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Can't Install iTunes on my laptop with Windows Vista...PLEASE HELP

I've received error messages every time I try to download iTunes. I've tried the troubleshooting steps on Apple's website but no luck.

Good lord ... a bit of an alphanumeric soup there ...
It's not clear initially which is the fundamental error here. But based on the fact that the 8007371b can be fixed by the System Update Readiness Tool, we might try a manual install of that first. There's information on how to do that in the *Information for Advanced Users* section of the following document.
[Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821]
Installing the tool will run the tool.
After the installation of the tool, restart the PC. Then go back to Windows Update, and attempt to stock up again on Windows Updates. Do they download and install correctly? If so, because you might be a reasonable way behind on updates, keep going back to Windows update until it stops offering you new updates.
Once you're stocked up again, restart the PC again, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
