Can't install Safari 1.3.1 Update. I have 10.3.9 installed.

I can thank recent Earthlink Webmail Problems for this request for help.
I installed 10.3.9 on my iMac G4 many months ago (software disc downloaded by my Mac store since I am stuck with dial-up service). A check of the Safari version indicates I have 1.2.3. I can't check Webmail using Safari for almost a week and use IE which is "ghostly" but works. Earthlink folks say I have to have at least Safari 1.2 (Well, forget that-I have it.) So, I checked for updates and downloaded Safari 1.3.1. When I tried to install it, the screen told me I couldn't install the update because 10.3.9 was required. What is up with that? I have it. So, I trashed the download and am limping along with Safari 1.2.3. I am puzzled. I know Tiger is great but for what I do on my computer, Panther has worked fine. I like Safari for a variety of reasons. At the moment I can't really say the same for Earthlink and the Webmail glitch. Any and all recommendations welcome.

Hi Helen,
Try re-applying the 10.3.9 combo update over your current installation and then retrying the Safari updates. This will also overwrite the change made by any subsequent Security Updates so make sure to re-apply those too.

  • Please Help! Can't open Safari, I-Tunes  after update download.

This happened after I ran a software update and downloaded the new I-tunes, Quicktime, and the latest security update.
I got an almost full disk message, but the downloads were completed ok. I was told to restart, but a bug hit at that point and I held down the power key to close down.
When I booted up again, all seemed normal, but
now when I click on the Safari and I-tune icons they blink, but then don't open.
Any ideas on what happened and how to link up the finder and these programs again? Is this a case for the famous Pram zap?
(Other, such as I-photo etc. are not affected. On the other hand Mac help, any html safari page, and software update are all inoperative.)
    Many thanks for any suggestions!

The solution was to use the original

Thanks to all for the help!!!!!!

  • Where can I find earlier versions of Software update.  Have 6.03 want 6.02

Trying to edit a project that was started in 6.02. I have 6.03 at home but need the project to stay in 6.02 because I will master it out at a location that refused to upgrade.
I have reinstalled FCP back to 6.0 (at home). Now I am trying to find the update to get me to 6.02. IS this possible? Apple only gives me the choice of 6.04 when I search here. Any leads? is this hidden somewhere in the support world?

I wish Apple would do that too.
Now you can't even get 6.0.3...because 6.0.4 was released yesterday.
What you CAN do is export your cut as an XML v4 and then import that into the machine at work. I do that all the time and it works like a charm.

  • I was updating my apps from the App Store when the process quit unexpectedly. Now I can't open the update file nor will my safari launch. How do I get back on to safari and prevent the updates that did download from being installed?

I can't launch safari after downloading so updates. HELP!

Ashka, I have tried to "transfer purchases from device" but that is what I am saying that I do not see the app in the "mobile applications" directory after I do that process. I was wondering if anyone else knew of a way to get to the ipa file that is stored on the iPad such as a program that could browse the directories of the iPad of even an app that could do it so I can get and save the actual app in ipa format.

    Hi there 70gull,
At this point, you may want to try reinstalling OS X as your next troublehsooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
Actually, you cannot download Snow Leopard. You downloaded a Snow Leopard updater.

  • Can't install Safari 1.3.1 Update

Having previously trashed Safari & gone back to 1.2....I tried to work back up to current status. Permissions Repair done before and after. First, I applied the 10.3.9 Combo updater. Then, when trying to do the 1.3.1 update (and 1.3.2) I get that bloody msg telling me I can't install...that the system can't use this software. I know there was a previous thread on this, but didn't see a solution to the problem. How the devil can I get back up to 1.3.2???????

Permission repair after the removal of the packages. and a restart of the computer. I am not speaking about after the 10.3.9 Combo Update.
I have the Security Update it is not evil. The perm. repair should be run after every software update you do. Combo, run perm repair, security run perm.

I would resolve the Kernel panics first.
I thank you once more for trying to help, but I'm still open to anyone's assistance in getting the 1.3.1 & 1.3.2 updates done.
Your welcome, however if you have those package in your Receipts then the software updater will recognize them and the install of the updates you are looking to do will not happen. Perhaps some one will pipe in with more help for you.

Help since installing latest software updates I now can't open safari????

    Hi Stewartirl,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Are you only having issues opening Safari? Are you able to connect to the internet with other Browsers or using Mail?
The article below is a good starting point for troubleshooting.  I'd start by plugging in an ethernet cable and restarting the computer.  If the wired (LAN) connection works, then unplug the ethernet cable and continue troubleshooting the wireless connection.

  • I can not install itunes on my computer. It tells me I need to update safari, and I have. Help please

I can not install itunes on my computer.  It tells me I need to update safari, and I have already done that. Please help.

It tells me I need to update safari, and I have already done that.
That's an unusual message to be getting on a Windows system. (Typically it's a Mac itunes installation message.)
I'd like to have a closer look at that error message please, tamara.
Try another iTunes install. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.
Start a reply here and click the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window. Click "Choose file", browse to the image file, select the file and click "Open". Now click "Insert file" to insert the screenshot into the reply.

  • I upgraded to Lion and now Safari doesn't work and the updater hangs so I can't install the updates. Can anyone help me with this?

I upgraded to Lion and now Safari hangs up and the updater hangs up so I can't install the update. Can anyone help?

    Reinstalling Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • I can't get on safari due to a update i installed about 6 months ago

safari crashes due to update i intallled 6 months ago.  how do i resolve this

    Debra...
Most likely due to a third party Safari add on. Try the troubleshooting help here >  Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If you can't resolve the problem post a crash report so we can find out why Safari's crashing.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

  • Stuck in a limbo: can't install Safari or Lion/Mountain Lion, can't access App Store

If someone would take up this challenge and attempt to solve it with me, I would appreciate it! I have troubleshooted for 2 days now to no avail.
    This is what happened:
    1) I accidentally installed Safari 6.0, even if I have Lion 10.7. which doesn't run the new version
    2) This disabled my use of Safari and my access to App Store
    3) With a combination of AppDelete + Pacifist I tried deleting all Safari files, and re-installing old Safari 5.4 from scratch.
I rebooted, repaired permissions and did a disk check.
    4) Rebooted again, tried to open the newly installed Safari, but it gives an error:
"Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X."
    5) At this point I thought to revert back to a previous point in Time Machine. Unfortunately all the points in Time Machine somehow showed Safari 6.0 (even a month-old points), so reverting back to an old point didn't help.
    6) I try logging into AppStore to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I can't do that, since it needs Safari to run and I don't have a Safari anymore!
    7) Now I tried re-installing Lion from restart + cmd+R, and it asked for Apple ID to start the installation.
--> At this point I am getting desperate, as this computer was purchased second-hand, so I don't have the Apple ID used to install Lion!
    8) I try searching for Apple's official support, but obviously my warranty has expired, besides it's based in another country so they can only call cellphones from that country!
So I cannot enter App Store; reinstall Safari; reinstall Lion; or upgrade to Mountain Lion. I have no access to Apple official support. I currently work in a developing country with limited access to any MAC support.
I don't know what to try anymore!
    - How can I enter App Store without Safari?
    - How can I reinstall Lion without the original Apple ID?
    - How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion without App Store?
    I'm STUCK! Please help!!

    Anyone?
I finally managed to download the newest combo update and installed it successfully!
However Safari still doesn't open. It keeps saying the following:
Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I also finally got access to App Store: but the download of Mountain Lion doesn't complete, because it seems to need Safari.
So I'm still stuck with the two issues:
    i) Safari doesn't work, and I can't get it to work unless I can reinstall/upgrade the OS.
ii) I can't upgrade the OS without Safari!
--- unless someone knows a way to install Lion/Mountain Lion _without_ Safari??
    Thanks for all your help!

  • Can't launch Safari after Software Update

I can't start Safari anymore and I don't know what to do. In short, click on the dock and no bounce. Double-click on the icon within Applications and it doesn't launch either. These problems, I'm guessing are a result of the combination of objects delivered by Software Update yesterday. Based on the log below, I installed the following:
    2006-05-29 22:05:53 -0700: Installed "Pages Update" (1.0.2)
    2006-05-29 22:05:58 -0700: Installed "Apple Intermediate Codec" (1.0.1)
    2006-05-29 22:06:12 -0700: Installed "Keynote Update" (2.0.2)
    2006-05-29 22:06:52 -0700: Installed "GarageBand Update" (2.0.2)
    2006-05-29 22:07:42 -0700: Installed "iPhoto Update" (5.0.4)
    2006-05-29 22:08:04 -0700: Installed "Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2" (2.0)
    2006-05-29 22:09:01 -0700: Installed "QuickTime" (7.1)
    2006-05-29 22:09:43 -0700: Installed "iTunes" (6.0.4)
    2006-05-29 22:10:02 -0700: Installed "iPod Updater 2006-03-23" ( )
    Additional problematic behavior includes:
    (1) other applications saying OS X is not 10.3.8 or higher
    (2) can't launch Software Update from the Apple menu or from the "About This Mac" window
    (3) can't see the system version in "About This Mac" (shows the serial number instead)
    (4) can't run a bunch of other apps (Dashboard, iMovie, iChat, Sims 2 University)
Any clues? Am I in the right forum?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    (3) in About This Mac click on the serial number and it should cycle through the Mac OS version, build, and serial number. Run Repair Disk Permissions then run Software update again. There might be other updates available. After each update run Repair Disk Permissions.
