Can't install Security Update 2008-002
On my MacBook, I'm trying to install Security Update 2008-002. As soon as it goes to download it, I get an error saying "You do not have appropriate access privileges." It says the installer package is being placed in the trash and to reinstall I should fish it out of the trash thru the finder.
My account has Admin privileges and I was able to install several other packages at the same time the attempt to install the security update was made. The installer package is not making its way into the trash... in fact the error seems to be thrown before anything is even downloaded.
Also, I've been able to install this successfully on my iMac, MacBook Air, and older MacBook.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

This happened to me, too, I think, with a recent security update.
As I recall, I downloaded the update from the Apple website and that one installed ok.
Have a look here.

Error Installing Security Update 2008-002 PPC 10.4.11
Software Update was unable to install this update, it moved the .pkg file to the trash.
I moved the .pkg file back to the Desktop, tried again, it failed.
I downloaded the .dmg/.pkg from the Apple web, tried agagin, it failed.
Is anyone able to install the Security Update 2008-002 PPC on their G3 in 10.4.11? I was able to reboot fine, everything else seems to be working properly anyway.I can't really say which of the 10.4.point OS versions is faster, I think 10.4 and 10.3 both ran really well on my G3 with the 1GHz G4 upgrade. Definitely better than 10.2. 10.4 seems faster, but that may be due to my striped RAID I'm now using, booting and launching apps is pretty responsive.
In the too-much-information department...but since you asked, here are some of the peak numbers (uncached sequential read 256K blocks) from Xbench tests, not sure how good a test this is, but results will always vary a little from test to test. Is anyone getting much better performance than this, and if so what are you using?
For the G3 Desktop: (some tests were done in earlier configurations of my machine that no longer match the config listed in my signature)
15 MB/sec on built in
40 MB/sec on PCI-ATA66: 60 GB Maxtor 5T060H6 ATA/100 7200RPM
40 MB/sec: 320 GB OWC Neptune ST3320620A 7200RPM FW 400 on PCI-USB/FW external port
45 MB/sec: 120 GB Maxtor 6Y120P0 ATA/133 7200 RPM on PCI-ATA66
47 MB/sec: 120 GB Seagate ST3120026A ATA/100 7200 RPM on PCI-ATA66
70 MB/sec: SeaMax 120+120 on a PCI-ATA66RAID, I know the drives don't match, but hey, they're close enough.
My MacBook:
43 MB/sec: 160GB 5400RPM Hitachi HTS541616J9SA00 SATA
Is there a better benchmark utility to measure hard drive speeds? I am surprised the MacBook isn't faster with the SATA drive. -
Can't Install Security Update 2008-007
Using Software Update it states that it downloaded Security Update 2008-007 ver 1.0. When I restart my computer it begins the installation process. However, it hangs on "Configuring Installation".
When I try to manually download and install the Security Update it won't allow me to choose my hard drive as the volume. It states that the volume doesn't meet the 'requirements'.
I have a MacBook Air SSD with 12GB of space available. Anyone have any ideas? Is this update not for the MBA? Or do I need to change some settings somewhere to get this to install?I solved the issue by going to apple's supprt site and downloading the standalone installer.
Take note in Software Update how big the file is that it wants to download. Mine was 31Mb.
So when I went here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ I downloaded the 31MB file of the security update.
I then opened the installer, let it install and restart, now the security update doesn't come up when I open Software Update.
Does this work for others? Make sure you are getting the correct file off the apple site. Check the size of the file in Software Update.
Shortcut to the 31mb file: http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=21597&cat=57&platfor m=osx&method=sa/SecUpd2008-007.dmg -
Security Update 2008-002 failed Software update install, now absent in SU
So, I used Software Update to download and install Security Update 2008-002, but at after downloaded and going through install process, it never completed. I think it never even reached the optimizing part. So, I forced quit Software update. Backed up everything before restarting. No issues restarting at all, but when I rerun software update, Security Update 2008-002 does not show up. Also, it does not appear in the receipts folder either. You can still manually download it however. I wonder if Apple was pulling it this morning? I can't figure out, since I see no evidence of it being installed, why it doens't show back up.
Yep, looked for that too. Nothing. I have noticed, in trying to download manually, that I get an "internal error" from Apple downloads a few times before actually getting it to download.
When I origianlly tried to use software update, it never made it past installing to optimizing. Normally, after optimizing, you have to restart for the updated software to take effect. Since it stalled out and just hung, I force quited Software Update. I wonder if they is why no reciept package shows, or, did it just really not install. Odd thing is, I know shockwave permissions differed after I restarted. So,either it's me, or Apple pulled it or is having issues.
I have never had a software update stall out before. ever.
Also, does not show up in Software update as installed either, but doesn't show up as available.

Security update 2008-002 stuck on blue screen (apple bsod)
imac G5 running 10.5.2
just installed security update 2008-002 along with the safari update, garage band and one other which i stupidly can't remember right now. i do know only two required the restart (security update and safari).
after the restart i get nothing but the blank blue screen. its been held up there for over an hour now. any ideas? i do have a macbook and a firewire cable in case i need to link up that way in order to fix something.
anybody know what the deal is? THANKS!!I too have a 'blue screen of death' on my 12-inch G4 PowerBook (10.5.2) - today I ran Software update and downloaded and installed the following -
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update Version 2.0
Safari Version 3.1
Security Update 2008-002
Time Machine and AirPort Updates Version 1.0
The last 3 all required the computer to be restarted. I don't know which of these caused it but I have had a blue screen on my PowerBook for over an hour. It wasn't going anywhere so I turned it off and connected it via FireWire to my iMac G5 (also running 10.5.2) but, fortunately, I hadn't gotten around to downloading and installing the updates on it.
I've just bought and formatted a 500GB LaCie USB2.0 & FireWire 400 external hard drive to that I can back up all my systems using Time Machine :-((( I was going to update everything before I partitioned the drive and started backing up!
I should mention that I had my PowerBook plugged into the AC power outlet and there was nothing connected to the USB or firewire port when I downloaded and installed the updates.
I've been using the PowerBook for the last 3 months while overseas and I've managed to move all my images from the Pictures folder on the PowerBook to my iMac but it seems that there's nothing else I can do other than an Archive and install of Leopard (GROAN) - is this right or does anyone have some other suggestion that I can try?
Cheers

Security Update 2008-002 (Universal)
Hi
I've just downloaded Security Update 2008-002 (Universal) from Apple's web-site. However the installer tells me:
You cannot install Security Update 2008-002 (Universal) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.
The volume in question is the hard drive for the computer which has 10.5.2 functioning extremely well and over 100 GB of free space. I haven't had any problems with updates before on this OS. I always download from Apple web-site I never install using "Software Update", however I do use "Software Update" to prompt me to install updates.
I wonder if anyone else has had a problem installing Security Update 2008-002 (Universal)?
Thank you.I am never one to jump on a software update. I always wait a bit.
Like you, I use the SU tool as a "suggestion" and DL the combo from Apple's website.
You might consider downloading it again - it could be corrupt.
You can also DL the Leopard version and see if that installs.
We will soon find out if others have problems, and if so, then we all will wait; otherwise we have to trouble-shoot your system.

Leopard Server 10.5.2 hosed after Security Update 2008-002 v1.1 Server
I am running Leopard Server 10.5.2 on a Mac Pro 2x3.2 GHz quad core xeon. I did a software update today which included Security Update 2008-002 v1.1 Server. I did disk verify and permissions repair on as usual before the update. Afterwards, I found that I could not log into my local user account with administrator privileges. I can log in as "root" using the local administrator password. All my users can log in. But all the groups have disappeared, and so have the wikis associated with these groups. The data seems to be there in /Library/Collaborations, however.
This was a simple server configuration with 5 users - I was essentially using only the groups wiki function. The server had no client machines. Its not like I had a complex configuration. I am absolutely mystified - spent an hour on the phone with Apple support and they took all the server logs for analysis. I was wondering if anyone else had this update go wrong in a similar configuration.
I would be very grateful for any advice!I had the same thing happen. It took me a while to figure out why because I installed the update before the weekend and then came in on Monday and nothing worked. I've searched around quite a bit and found some people had the same problem but haven't found a solution. Right now my server is sitting there useless, even after reverting to a backup before the update.
Did you or anyone else find a solution to this? -
Security Update 2008-002 and Mail Services on OS X Server 10.4.11
A word of caution before applying Security Update 2008-002 to OS X Server 10.4.11:
According to this document:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307562
the security update updates ClamAV to 0.92.1. Which is fine.
What the document, doesn't tell is that spamassassin, amavisd and what is worse, configuration files, get overwritten in the process as well (without software actually being updated).
This has some side effects which unfortunately vary from system to system and configuration to configuration.
If you never updated ClamAV, spamassassin or amavisd manually check that:
-/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf, /etc/mail/spamassassin/init.pre and /etc/amavisd.conf didn't get overwritten thus loosing your personalised settings (if any)
-/etc/spam/clamav/clamd.conf and /etc/spam/clamav/freshclam.conf didn't get overwritten thus loosing your personalised settings (if any)
If you have manually updated spamassassin or amavisd check that:
-/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf, /etc/mail/spamassassin/init.pre and /etc/amavisd.conf didn't get overwritten thus loosing your personalised settings AND causing issues with your current versions.
-/usr/bin/amavisd didn't get overwritten. If it did re-install amavisd as you did the first time
-/usr/bin/spamassassin didn't get overwritten. If it did re-install spamassassin as you did the first time
HTH,
AlexThanks pterobyte for Your support,
I have update 2008-002 last week, I never updated ClamAV, spamassassin or amavisd manually,
and check / reload personalized settings after installation.
The system has worked very fine in the last days, but today I have had postfix queue with more messages not delivered and following error:
host 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1] said: 451 4.5.0 Error in processing, id=01334-01, virus_scan FAILED: virus_scan: ALL VIRUS SCANNERS FAILED: ClamAV-clamd av-scanner FAILED: Too many retries to talk to /var/clamav/clamd.sock (Can't connect to UNIX socket /var/clamav/clamd.sock: No such file or directory) at (eval 42) line 266.; ClamAV-clamscan av-scanner FAILED: /usr/local/bin/clamscan unexpected exit 50, output="ERROR: Can't initialize the virus database" at (eval 42) line 435. (in reply to end of DATA command)
I have tried with unload/load amavisd and reload postfix,
not launch mailbfr to fix db , I was losing too much time and for productivity reasons I have temporary reload prev backup of 2008-002. -
I am unable to open Calendar on my iMac - this occurred after installing Security Update 2015-002. I don't know if related. A message pops up after several minutes saying Calendar quit unexpectedly (but it never really opens). How do get Calendar back?

Printing problems after installing Security Update 2015-002
After installing Security Update 2015-002 on three separate computers on two different WiFi networks, printers on the network are losing their connections to the computers that can print to them. We have experienced this on a network running a Canon printer and an HP printer - both have disappeared on the network although the printer suggests it is still connected to the network. The same thing has happened on a separate network I manage with a single HP printer on that network. I have tried removing the printers, resetting the printers etc. Nothing is working. I can get one print out of a printer when I turn the printer off and then on. Three minutes later the printer is no longer connected to the computer - although still connected to the network. Please Help.
I think I have figured out that it is in fact the Apple Extreme Base Station that is losing the printer. It is very odd because the printer is connected to the Wifi. My computer is connected to the WiFi and connecting to the internet. The Router for the internet can see the printer. An Apple Extreme is then connected via a network cable in Bridge mode to the router. When I turned the power off the The Apple Extreme and then restored power it all worked. was still working this morning, but again this afternoon I needed to reboot Apple Extreme. It is quite strange that this is happening on two different Networks in different parts of the country at the same time. Maybe the Security Update is somehow affecting/blocking communication with the printer? I just don't know enough. These networks have been up and running with the same printers and computers for years with zero problems - all of a sudden we have the same problem on both Networks.
Any help will be very much appreciated. -
I am getting this message: You cannot install Security Update 2011-002 on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update?
is there a way to install this update?Hello
More information would be useful, for example which Mac OS are you running.
On the left menu item About this Mac provides useful information.
Also did you use Software Update to determine the update?
Using Software Update can ensure you download and install the correct package for your particular Mac and OS version. -
I am unable to install the latest Security Update 2008-002 in a 20" iMac G5 2 GHz Intel Core Duo running OS 10.5.2. The update installed in the 17" G4 PB, same operating system, without a problem.
try downloading directly from the Apple download site rather than using software update

My iMac doesn't recognize by usb keyboard since I installed security update 2015-002
I installed Security Update 2015-002 on my iMac and since then it doesn't recognize my usb keyboard (I'm typing this with a bluetooth keyboard). I rebooted, unplugged and plugged back in the keyboard all to no avail.
My system:
Yosemite 10.10.2
Mid 2011 iMac 27"
3.4 GHz i7
16 GB RAM
Keyboard: Apple extended USB
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Mine works okay.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

Security update 2008-002 will brake your machine!
Just updated "Security Update 2008-002" (1.0)", and after that the whole system lags. Keyboard is nonresponsive and graphics are very slow and audio has problems also. After a sleep, it does not wake. Repaired the permissions, resetted firmware and rebooted many times, no help. My machine is Macbook 2.0ghz core duo with 2gb ram.
Any ideas? I dont want to reinstall because I suspect that the same thing would happen again after installing that security update.Ok issues:
In general the machine seems to be very slow. Everything takes time more than it used to.
- Mouse movement is jerky
- When keeping a key pressed down first char comes quickly, after that its like 4 second before it start to repeat that key
- You cannot watch videos. When watching video from youtube (or any other), audio and video is so laggy that you cannot view the video.
- Does not wake from sleep. Led shows that its in sleep, but nothing happens when key is pressed. I have to force-shutdown it everytime.
I checked the "top -o cpu" command, and it says that "kernel task" process is taking like 12% all the time. I havent seen that task earlier.
0 kernel_tas 12.6% 0:26.59 52 2 509 7044K 0 56M 286M
I have macfuse and ntfs-3g installed. Should i uninstall them..?
