Can't install Sol 9 on Ultra 20

Hi Folks,
I've acquired a Sun Ultra 20 that was previously running Windows 2003.
I'm trying to install Solaris 9 but when booting from the "Installation" CD I get the following messages...
WARNING: consconfig: could not find driver for screen device /pci@0,0/pci10de,5c@9/display@5
WARNING: Could not attach frame buffer to wscons, error 6
Can't find driver for console framebuffer At this point the installation appears to hang
I'm using the Solaris 9 for x86 CD's downloaded from Sun's website yesterday.
I'm using a standard VGA monitor & I believe the Ultra 20 has an ATI Rage XL Graphics adapter.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks and regards
Kevin

According to sunsolve the minimum version of solaris
supported on the ultra20 is solaris 10. Unless its an
ultra 20 m2 in which case you need solaris 10u2.OK.
Looks like I'll have to download Solaris 10.
Thanks & Regards
Kevin

I have a RackSaver Dual AMD XP 1600+ Server with an Adaptec AIC-7899 SCSI controller with a IBM 36G 160 drive. 1GB DDR memory. When I start the install it recognizes all my devices, starts the webstart, flashes some information and displays done at the bottom of the screen and reboots to start the install all over again. Any idea what is the problem?

    Can I this configuration?
so, I was installed 40GB hard drive. I use it now.
Can I install more than 40GB hard drive?

Yes and in fact it can accept 2 hard drives. Any 2.5 inch wide SATA laptop hard drive 9.5 mm thick will work and those are available up to 1.5 TB I believe. To add a second hard drive you need a caddy and connector piece sold here:

There is a link on the page above which will lead you to installation instructions.

  • We can't install Solaris 8 - IBM PC SERVER 315

    Hello:
We are trying to install Solaris 8 (Intel) (02/02) in an IBM PC Server 315.
    Some words about it:
    - 128 Mb RAM
    - Pentium Pro 200 Mhz
    - Adaptec AHA-2940U/2940UW Ultra SCSI in PCI bus1,Slot 4 (Info from Solaris install) (Target 7)
    - Hard Disk IBM SCSI (Target 0)
    - CD-Rom SCSI IBM CDRM00203 (Target 6 of SCSI) (info from Solaris install)
    We have a big problem.
We can't install Solaris from CD.
After Loading kernel , when it begins Searching /dev and /devices...we see this text in the screen repeated a lot of times:
    WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci1011,24@2/pci9004,8178@1(adp0):
    timeout: abort device, target=6 lun=0
And before this something like it has some problem and begins a resinc ??
    Please Could you help us?
Solaris has been purchased from Sun on 12 March 2002
    A lot of Thank's!
P.D: Please, excuse my poor English.
    A lot of thank's.

two other severs wouldn't run the cd either? Break it down a little it will be more solvable. We will create two separate problems with this. First we will check the cd disk itself. Put in another system and install solaris. If that works, move to the cdrom drive....move it to the same computer you just installed solaris on...if it works then it is another problem.

  • Can I install a 30gb+ drive in a 1G?

Posted this question here a while ago, gonna try again:
Hi, I've got a 20gb 3G, I'm at the point where I need to upgrade to a bigger mp3 player, and I'm really interested in a 1G (rather than a newer iPod model) for a number of reasons. However, obviously I need something substantially BIGGER than 20gb to make my time worthwhile, and 1G only went up to 10.
So... are 1Gs compatible with 3, 4, or 5G drives? Could I buy a larger (maybe 40gb or 60gb) drive and install it in an old first-gen model, or has the actual modelling of the drive/mobo changed since then so that it wouldn't fit? Really looking for an answer here, as if anyone can tell me that it works, I'll be buying a used 1G.
Of course, since the newer drives are so much smaller, I realize that I'll have to put extra padding and whatnot in the 1G, but that's not a problem; I'm just worried about compatibility.
    Thanks for any help!

    Sure:
ATA is the standard for most hard drives. the ipods use a type called ATA-5.
"Advanced Technology Attachment. A disk drive implementation that integrates the controller on the disk drive itself. There are several versions of ATA, all developed by the Small Form Factor (SFF) Committee:
ATA : Also known as IDE (Integrated, or Intelligent, Drive Electronics) supports one or two hard drives, a 16-bit interface and PIO modes 0, 1 and 2.
ATA-2 : Supports faster PIO modes (3 and 4) and multiword (DMA modes (1 and 2). Also supports logical block addressing (LBA) and block transfers. ATA-2 is marketed as Fast ATA and Enhanced IDE (EIDE).
    ATA-3 : Minor revision to ATA-2.
    Ultra-ATA : Also called Ultra-DMA, ATA-33, and DMA-33, supports multiword DMA mode 3 running at 33 MBps.
ATA/66 : A version of ATA proposed by Quantum Corporation, and supported by Intel, that doubles ATA’s throughput to 66 MBps.
ATA/100 : An updated version of ATA/66 that increases data transfer rates to 100 MBps.
ATA is also called Parallel ATA."
    -From http://www.x-emi.com/tech_terms.html
Anyway, you can just buy any ATA-5 drive (Or get it from like another iPod) & then install it into yours.

You can also install any CompactFlash Card, or CompactFlash MicroDrivein a 1st gen.

  • Can I install win2K and solaris8 in one disk?

I have already installed windows2000 in my laptop. I also want to install Solaris8 on it. The installation loader finds my hard disk device and asks if I want to create a new fdisk partition in c0d0. If I answer "yes", will the installation prompt me to create a partition for solaris, or take up the whole disk? How can I install both w2K and solaris8 in a pc? Thank you!

You will have to resize your partition if you would like to do this. That will free up some space. If you don't have the space you will have to upgrade to a larger hd. I've put Linux, Win2k, and Solaris on the same machine before. Win and Sol on the first disk.

  • How do I can I install MS Office 2008 on a MacBook Air w/ a valid product key? Can I download files somewhere?

How do I can I install MS Office 2008 on a MacBook Air w/ a valid product key? Can I download files somewhere?
    Here's the scenario....
I've got a brand new gift MacBook Air 11" and I want to install Microsoft Office 2008 since I have a valid key license that's given by my nephew. Do I have any other options here?  Can I download all the necessary files from somewhere officially and just enter the Product Key to install what I need?  Are there other possible options?
Your help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

You can use a remote disc to download Office as shown here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5287
    But please note several cautions:
    1.  The product key is intended for one machine only.  You would have to be the sole user.
    2.  Office 2008 is now very close to being obsolete.  Office 2011 has been out for years, and Office 365 is available for your Mac as well.

  • Hi, can I install Adobe Acrobat Pro on 2 devices?

Can I install Adobe Acrobat Pro on 2 devices? I have a desktop running Windows 7 and am thinking of buying a laptop running Windows 8. I would be the sole user and only using one device at a time.

Yes, the license permits installing on two machines at the same time as long as the same software is not being used on both simultaneously.

  • Install SOL after ERP

    Hello members,
I have a question : I install SOL and generate key. After I desinstall it... But now to get SP, I need to reinstall it. It is mandatory when I read all threads.
Can you secure me that if install SOL on ERP now, I can use on the same SSID  and the same database host without any problems with ERP after ? Can i have some problems with database structure or anything else ?
Best regards and thanks all for your help !

    Hi,
Go ahead and install your SOLMAN. Its a separate installation. It will not affect your ERP in anyway. All you have to do is once you install your SOLMAN, in System Landscape Setup (SMSY) you create system with your existing ERP SID and DB. It will not affect your ERP.
I think I have understood your query.
    Feel free to revert back.

  • Can we install Windows 8 in a U410 which have Windows 7?

Im just about to buy a Windows 7 Lenovo U410 ultra book (Don't have windows 8 versions in my country (Sri Lanka)). With it, If I buy a seperate Windows 8 copy, can I do a clean install with it without upgrading? Will it be able to use my SSD for the boosting technology just like its used in the Windows 7 system installed by default? How can I do this? (PS : I might need to install Windows 8 Without UEFI or at least Without Secure Boot to install Linux.) So, will it work?

    hi THpubs,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    Regarding your questions:
    1. Yes you can clean install Windows 8 on the Lenovo U410 (check this guide).
    2. When you said "SSD for the boosting technology", do you mean SSD caching? If it is then yes, you will need to configure Intel Smart Response Technology in Windows 8 for it to work
    Note:
You will need to install the OS on the HDD since it will utilize the SSD as a cache drive.
    3. If you're planning to dual boot Windows 8 with Linux (i.e. Ubuntu), you can:
    a. create an unallocated space for your Linux installation use this guide on how to install Ubuntu
    b. install Ubuntu via Wubi without resizing your partition
It's always a good practice to create a recovery disc before modifying anything on your system
    Hope this helps.

  • How many computers can I install my Creative Cloud apps on?

You can install the apps available in Creative Cloud on your primary computer and one backup computer, as long as they are not running at the same time. You will have access to both the Mac OS and Windows versions, so if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, for example, you can install your applications on both. See the product license agreements page for more information.
Read more in the Creative Cloud FAQ

    Jeff,
Here is a concern I have.  I called sales support yesterday and asked the following questions.   I have 3 computers (1) PC tower, (1) iMac and (1) MacBook Pro.   When I first started using Adobe all the way through CS5 Master Collection I always owned the Windows Box Versions.  I have been waiting for months for this to come out so I could move my workflow over to MacOS X.    Since the Creative Cloud supports both MAC and Windows installs the question I asked was can I install it on both my 2 Mac Computers.  Then if I need to use it on my PC can I simply deactivate and then activate on it for use?
The answer your support person gave was "YES"  So the answer in this topic don't even flow with the answers from calling the 800 number!
So now reading this forum topic I am really confused.   I like many others have definate reasons why I may want to flip flop the machine I am using the software on  (1) I have $4500 worth of AE plug-ins.  $2000 worth of these are platform specific.  So they only run on a windows machine.  Even, though I intend on my primary workflow to be used on a MAC there may come a time when I need to use one of these plug-ins and then would have to switch my activation to the PC to use it.
Another scenario,  Let's face it Apple has not been to keen on upgrading the Mac Pro system's.  iMac's are great but have their limitations with graphics cards, drives, and memory.  So if you go a complicated AE render to do,iIt makes a lot more sense to run it on a PC at this time for me.  So my hope here is I would de-activate one of my MAC's activate my PC then render away.
I like many others completely understand that we are only suppose to operate our software on 1 machine at a time.  I am cool with you checking this.  Other posters have asked what if I forget to turn one machine off leave with my MacBook Pro and then fire it up.  Will I be in trouble?  Not sure how you handle this if you don't have a connection.  But Spotify the music streaming company license their software to me the user.  If I fire up one machine,  Then grab my iPhone and try to listen it turns it off on the other machine.  Apps in the app store like MotionX Drive do the same thing.
I am an Electrical Automation Engineer by day and a Graphic/Video Designer Enthusiast at night.   In all the programming software that every vendor provides they provide a licensing server software service that sits locally within the location.  It manages concurrent licenses, without the need for online connections.  Any computer needing to run simply pulls the license from the network connected license server software service.  When the program is done it releases the license.  The only issues with this is if your license server crashes.  It can be a bit of a headache with support to get your license back.   Others simply have an online site (like Apple) Where you simply log in and de-activate devices as needed.  (Heck even Hulu, and Netflix offer this.)
I think if Adobe wants the Cloud thing to take off then they need to re-evaluate this.  The license needs to follow the user not the device.  The user should have a painless simple way to activate and de-activate their license back to their Adobe ID.

I have elements 10 installed on one computer can I install it on another?

I am pretty sure you can put on two computers.  I think after you put the serial number in, Adobe will let you know whether you can put another copy on or not.  It keeps track of how many times you've installed it.  I hope that makes sense.
