Can't install some applications...incompatible installer?

I recently received my new imac and have now started to move older applications from my old mac to the new machine.
It appears that that I cannot install Office v.X from the installation disk because of an incompatible installer. I receive the following error message: "The application InstallerVISE quit unexpectedly", with these details:

I have noticed this same issue with Retrospect Express (which I know isn't compatible with OS X 10.5.1, but I wanted to check if the installer would run).

OK, I have solved this! Interestingly, I could not find this issue in Mindvision's support pages (Mindvision is the maker of the Vise installer), but this is what I found on Macusenet:

distribute these to your customers as required. Another option is to have
the customer make some small change in the 'International' settings of
System Preferences. For this, the customer should do the following:
1. Go to System Preferences and open the 'International' settings.
2. Make a small change such as rearranging some of the languages at the
bottom of the language list or adding a new language.
3. Close the 'International' settings, which will save the changes.
4. Launch the installer.

I followed this advice, disconnected all peripherals and presto! I could install Office v.X
