Can't install System on to MacBook

Just replaced the Hard Drive in my MacBook. When I booted up from the Install disk I get a message that I can't install System 10.4.8 on this computer. In disk utilities I was able to set up new HD and ran diagnositics and it comes up fine. But HD does not show up on desktop. I also tried to boot up from Disk Warrior, tech Tool, and ann older System Version, 10.3 but they wouldn't even boot. HD was HIT0A28844,160GB 2.5" Hitachi Travelstar 5K160 5400RPM SATA Notebook Drive with 8MB Cache.

HI
10.3 won't boot since it's not compatible with the MacBook, and, depending on the age of the DiskWarrior and TechTool disks, the same may apply there.
Is the drive currently empty? When you boot from the install disk, go through the installation steps until you get to select the internal drive as the destination. Do you see the drive in the list? What does the message say? Click on Options and see if you can select a different install option (eg Erase and Install).

  • How can i install iwork dvd in Macbook Air?

Somebody know how can i install iwork dvd in Macbook Air? I try to use the CD compartment from my Macbook pro, but it don't work... tks

First, share your MB pro DVD drive on the network in System Preferences > Sharing.
Insert the iWork DVD into the MBpro's drive.
Then go to your MBair and click "Remote Disc" in the Finders Sidebar.
You'll see your MBpro listed in the finder window.  Click the arrow next to The MBpro name and you'll see the shared DVD.  Double click that and the installation process should begin.

  • I can't install Snow Leopard on MacBook after Tiger

    hi everyone,
    i apologise if i created this topic on wrong discussion forum;
i have a major problem -- there was 10.4.9 Tiger system on my MacBook. so i erased it to install new clean 10.6; i restarted my computer and during the installation there was a message:
"Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer. This disc requires that Mac OS X 10.5 or later already be installed".
    what to do? i don't have 10.5 and just want to install 10.6;

Make sure 10.6 you have looks like * Any other Snow Leopard will not install on a Mac that has 10.4.9 installed. It might work better, if you upgrade to 10.4.11 combo Intel first.

  • Can I install Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro 2013

Can I install Snow Leopard on my new MacBook Pro 2013. I'm so tired of the UGLY grey icons. I keep thinking that the mail or iPhoto window is not the active one because everything is grey.  I use Snow Leopard on my 27inch iMac and love it. Nice RED delete button for mail, etc. Thanks

Firmware restrictions prevent directly loading any OSX earlier than what came with the system.
The *only* way around is to load SnowLeopard *Server* (not Client) into a virtual machine (Parallels, VMWare Fusion, VirtualBox).  But that costs $20+shipping/tax for the disk and is a learning curve into SL Server.  And you *still* need your host OSX to run it, and the VM will not most efficiently use the hardware resources.

  • Can't install Snow-Leopard on Macbook pro (Midd 2010)

    Hi there,
    i have i big problem, i can't install a retail-version from snow-leopard (Version 10.6) on my Macbook pro.
Follow Situation: yesterday i get the Developer-Preview from Lion and install it onto my productiv-system. Not a good idea, i know, but i have a backup and will back to Snow Leopard. So, i try to start the Retail-Version DVD and she start, but only to the gray Apple-Symbol. Then they stop and don't go away.
I try to reset the PRAM, the SMC, no result. I try to start the installation from a USB-Image, same result. I try to start the installation from another harddisk/partition, the same result.
When i press cmd-v at the start i can read, that they stop after the load from the extensions.kext.
I have a Problem, a big Problem, i know. But what can i do?

You will need to use the system disk that shipped with your unit, the build is most likely different then the one on the retail version
Then after it is installed- you can use the migration assistant to import your data from your backup.

  • Can I install icloud on my MacBook? What I have here is MobileMe.

I want iClouad on my MacBook but what I have here is MobileMe.  How can I install iCloud?

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
    and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • [Ubuntu] Can't install Ubuntu on my MacBook Air.

I want to install Ubuntu on my MacBook Air. Problem : each time the DVD-RW burning ends, the disc becomes unreadable. How can I install Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits on a MacBook Air late 2011 still with OS X Lion ?
    Hi there.
I have a MacBook Air late 2011 still working with OS X Lion (actually OS X 10.7.4).
I just wanted to install Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits on my MacBook Air but I can't and I don't know why. The problem I encounter is the following : each time the DVD-RW burning ends, the disc becomes unreadable by the system and I can't do anything but erase it and try to burn it again… This is the fourth time I did it and it still doesn't works. Impossible to burn the DVD-RW without making it unreadable by the system. And I checked Bootcamp Assistant options but there's nothing about Linux…
I use an original Apple's superdrive to burn the disc.
A friend just told me to use Bootcamp Assistant, install Windows 7 on a new partition, then replace Windows 7 with Ubuntu… But I don't really know what to do. This is the first time that I try to install another system…
Could anyone help me ? Thanks.

I finally did it. In fact, if the DVD wasn't readable by OS X after the burning, he was readable by rEFIt on the superdrive. Me (OS X Lion 4 on a MacBook Air late 2011) and a friend (OS X Mountain Lion 1 on a MacBook Pro of 2008) did it this way :
    1. Download the Ubuntu iso named "ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso".
    2. Burn it on a blank DVD with the disk utility.
    3. Make a partition for Ubuntu with the disk utility.
    4. Install rEFIt.
    5. Restart the Mac.
    6. Select the icon of Tux behind a little disc.
    7. Try Ubuntu from the disc.
    8. While trying Ubuntu on the disc, use the installer to install Ubuntu. NOTE: NE CAREFUL WHILE INSTALLING UBUNTU, IF YOU CHOOSE THE WRONG OPTION AT A MOMENT OF THE INSTALLATION YOU CAN ERASE OS X.
    9. After the installation, Ubuntu should tell you that you might restart the computer. Restart the Mac, and you'll arrive on the rEFIt menu.
    10. You can now use Ubuntu on your Mac, enjoy.
We both did it and it worked well, I even reinstalled Ubuntu and it worked well again. Just be careful while installing Ubunut, I'll maybe repeat myself but choosing the wrong option could suppress OS X. Except if you just want a MacBook Air with Ubuntu for the weight… Have a nice day.

  • Can I transfer system from old macbook to new macbook using same OS with time machine?

I have a MacBook running snow Leopard.  Thinking of getting a new Pro but want to just transfer my entire desktop and system to new MacBook using Time Machine restore.  Is this possible?  If not what are my other options so I do not have to rebuild desktop?
    Thanks!

You can do it either directly from the older MacBook or from Time Machine. Your new MBP is unlikely to boot to the system on the MB as the newer Pro will have a later OS build and different hardware drivers among other things.
Just use Setup Assistant. When you boot the new MBP, after the welcome video you'll be taken into Setup Assistant; you'll be asked if you want to transfer your Applications, Home Folder and prefences from another source. Choose either 'from another Mac' or 'from a TM backup' as appropriate, and connect the Mac (by firewire) or the TM drive when prompted and let it do it's thing.
That will ensure you get one account with no permissions errors and all your stuff should work just as it did on the MB.

Can I install Mountain Lion on a MacBook 4,1

MacBook4,1 is the Late 2008 MacBook. Mountain Lion is compatible with the Late 2008 Aluminum or Early 2009 MacBook, so you can't upgrade to Mountain Lion. Read > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs

  • Can't install windows xp on macbook air

    Hi,
I have posted already on the forum about 1 month ago or more and no one answered me, so trying again.
How can I install windows xp on my macbook air?
I have an original xp sp2 disk and a generic external dvd burner with usb.
I have tried many times with bootcamp, but when I get the information (with disk utility info) of my xp 2 disk it says its not bootable.
Do you think its my disk or my external dvd burner that can't boot?
Should I get a super drive for it to work? Is there an other way for my mac to boot the disk at startup?
Anyone please have any answer on how they installed windows xp.

    Yes.
I have seen this page many many times already.
I know it is not supported by apple. But it must be possible. I read about people with MBA's getting xp on them.
My windows xp sp2 cd should at least be bootable? Its an original with the flashy 3D genuine design on it.
I have installed Win 7 previously, but with a usb stick. I can't have a 20gb OS on my 64gb MBA drive.
I hope you can understand better my problem.
    Thank you.
