Can't install windows 7 64bit

hallo at all
i tried to install windows 7 on my macbook pro mid 2010 with the boot camp assistant but this doesnt work because i don't have an optical drive.
after this i tried to install windows 7 via an external optical drive and via usb stick both options doesn't work .
i hope that anyone could tell me a trick how to install wind 7 on my macbook as second os
thx

There is NO trick. If you don't have an Internal DVD drive Win 7 can not be installed. Apple has made it so that Win 7 can only be installed on MBPs that normally come with internal Superdrives from that Internal Superdrive.
The only way around it is to reinstall the superdrive, Install the drive that you normally use in the SD bay in the main bay, connect your Boot drive to the MBP by USB and boot from there. Then run Boot Camp and select the main bay drive as the drive to partition for BC and then install Win 7 on that BC partition. Once it is done move that drive back to the Optical bay and reinstall your boot drive in the main bay.
Or you could just go out and buy a Really Windows Computer to run Win 7 on.

  • Satellite A500 - Can I install Windows 7 64bit?

I first bought a Satellite A500 with 4Gb RAM just over 3 months ago with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium installed. At first I had the initial dramas with finding 64 bit drivers etc then it ran OK for a while. After about 2 & a half months I started getting BSODs with error message related to an nvidia .sys file. After a few weeks of this, updating latest drivers etc, and a number of unsuccessful attempts to diagnose the problem, it was occuring every time I used the laptop and to top it off the touchpad finally died as well. The company I purchased from gave me a replacement laptop.
The new system is also a Satellite A500 and although it has a different model number and faster CPU it is otherwise virtually identical to the the one I had previously with 4Gb RAM and the same nvidia graphics card. However for some reason Windows 7 32 bit has been pre-installed. I'm not sure why the company didn't install 64 bit. A call to the tech dept with the question resulted in the answer "better for you", meaning 32 bit is better for me.
My laptop is 64 bit capable. I know that when running the 32 bit version it only utilizes up to 3.2Gb of the installed RAM (my system says that 2.99Gb is useable - assume rest is allocated to graphics?) but I've read a post where the poster said that he/she found running 32 bit Win 7 was actually faster than the 64 bit version, even tho it wasn't utilizing all the RAM.
*Can someone tell me if I am better off running the 32 bit version of Windows 7 rather than the 64 bit version?*
*If I am better off with 64 bit, can I upgrade to 64 bit or do I have to do a complete reinstall?* No installation disks were supplied. Presume setup files are on hidden partition.
Although I haven't had any BSODs with this new laptop, I have had a couple of occurences where the system has frozen temporarily with the messge "Your display driver has stopped working" followed by a recovery. Is this a Toshiba, nvidia or Windows 7 thing? I've read quite a few other posts from people with similar laptops to mine who've had the same Toshiba/nvidia errors but no resolutions. *If there is going to be a problem with this graphics card, am I better off with 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 7?*
Any advice would be muchly appreciated.

    Hi chrissy_h,
I have to say that there is no performance difference between 32bit and 64bit. The only important point is that 4GB RAM or more can only be used on 64bit system. As you wrote, 32bit OS can only handle up to 3.2GB but not more.
I think 32bit OS has a better compatibility to older applications so its preinstalled. Furthermore for the most applications 3.2GB RAM is enough and normally you dont need more.
Theoretically you can install Windows 7 64bit but dont forget that there is no upgrade option. You have to make a new and clean installation of the whole system.
Furthermore you need a Windows 7 64bit disk from Microsoft with license key. This can be purchased from every computer shop I think.
Last but not least check the Toshiba website. There you can find all available downloads for your notebook. :)

  • Satellite A100-011 - Can I install Windows 7 64bit?

Can you please tell me if I install Windows 7 64bit where I can find drivers, because they are not listed on Toshiba site.
    Thanx.
    Akis

Old notebook models are not supported for all operating system versions so you will not find these drivers on Toshiba support page.
What you can try is to search them on hardware manufacturers pages but I don't think you will find all of them.
You must also understand that new operating system is designed to run with newest hardware and it is always problematic to use newest OS with old hardware.
What you can also try is to check if some Satellite A200 has the same hardware and if A200 is supported for Win7 64bit you can use these drivers and try to install them on your A100.

  • Tecra S10-176 - Can I install Windows 7 64bit?

    Hi to everyone,
I am new to this forum. I have just bought a Tecra S10-176 with Vista Business 32 bit and I could upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 32 bit paying 29 euros.
However, I am tempted to buy an OM licence for Windows 7 Professional at 64 bit. From the support centre(s) of Toshiba (Italy) I did not receive any clear indication about the performances of the Tecra S10-176 with the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Professional. Can somebody tell me if it is (or it is not) a bad idea to install the 64 bit version on my Tecra S10-176?
    Thanks,
    Marco

    Hi
Theoretically you can install what you want on your notebook. Its yours! ;)
And I dont understand why you think that Windows 7 64bit wouldnt be a good idea.
I have checked the Toshiba page for Windows 7 64bit drivers and it seems that all of them are available. That means you would get every driver there! :)

  • How/Can I install WINDOWS 7 64BIT on a 1st Generation Mac Pro ?

Hi, Is it possible to install Windows 7 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro 2.66Ghz? Apple suggests that it's not possible and yet I've seen several Googled posts where the users have successfully installed 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro. The problem is that they've done this creating a bootable iso disk(whatever that is) using a Windows computer with imgburn and windows commands. I'm pretty good at following instructions but I haven't seen any instructions on how to install Windows 7 on this machine using a Mac based approach.
I'm using BootCamp and was able to partition the drive into NFTS and "proceed" with installation; however all te installations failed during setup and Windows would not boot; disk repair was not possible. Besides, from what I've gathered, 32 bit is problematic around memory issues.
When I try installing 64 bits, I never get past the "select cd rom 1or 2" message where the keyboard won't work. It is at this point where others say they have successfully proceeded with moving forward by creating a bootable iso disk.
Problem is it's all Windows based with exe files and presupposes I already have Windows running.
I'm not sure I really understand how to create an iso disk, but I do have ROXIO TOAST 10 which is capable of burning "ISO" disks.Does anyone know how to do this and/or can you point me to a place where there are instructions on how to proceed?? While I realize Apple says that some mid 2006 mac pros aren't supported, there are multiple posts of windows users successfully installing Windows 7 on a 1st Generation Mac Pro.
    Thanks.

I have a March 2009 Mac Pro dual quad core running Win7 Pro 64 bit. I have Windows installed on a dedicated internal hard drive. There are no partitions, the entire drive is for Windows use.
Here's how I installed it, I did not start with BootCamp. Make sure the drive you're going to use for Windows doesn't have any important files on it because it will be formatted.
    1. Update Snow Leopard
    2. Place the Windows cd in the Super Drive
    3. Shut down the computer
    4. Remove all the hard drives except the one you want Windows installed on. Keep track of the order they are in and at the end replace them in the same order.
    5. Boot the computer holding down the Option key
    6. Boot to the Windows cd
    7. Install Windows and format the drive to NTFS
    8. When Windows needs to restart during installation you'll need to hold the Option key and boot to Windows, not the Windows cd.
    9. After Windows installs, place your Snow Leopard disc in the Super Drive
    10. The Drivers for Windows will be installed along with a Windows version of BootCamp.
    11. Go to Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update
    12. Update again until it's done.
    13. You'll also find a BootCamp under Control Panel, check it out.
    14. Shut down the computer and replace the hard drives in their original order
    14. Now if you turn on the computer it will boot to Snow Leopard, but if you hold the Option key during boot you can select Windows or Mac.

  • Can i install windows 7 64bit on my mac

I have 16gb of Ram installed on my iMac and Windows 7 installed amd it is only using 2.23gb of it, and it is very anoying. I need to know if I can install 64 bit eddition Windows 7 on it before I go out and spend the money on it.

Yes, isn't the 64bit version on the same set of disks with the 32 bit version, mine did.
64 bit can address the more RAM, as you likely know now.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3321
check out your upgrade anytime or where oyu got your Win t 32 bit, your licensed ot use the 64 bit version with the same key perhaps?

  • Re: Tecra A10 - Can I install Windows 7 64bit?

    Hello Toshiba & Forum
I want to buy a Tecra A10 1GV, but always Toshiba delveres the Notebook only with a 32 Bit Windows 7 Prof.
In my eyes seems that like a Ferrary with a steam-engine.
The recovery version sometimes offer 32 and 64 bit Installation.
Does someone know, if that would be possible with the Tecra A10?
Is something wrong with a Tecra and a 64 Bit - system?
    Michael
    derEntwickler

    Hey Micheal,
In my opinion the Windows version (32bit or 64bit) has nothing to do with the hardware of the notebook. If you are using 3GB RAM or less in my opinion 32bit is enough because its not slower or faster as 64bit. This is just necessary to use 4GB RAM.
But as Al-eX already wrote you can download all drivers on the Toshiba website. Check this!!!

Want to install windows 7 64bit only partitioned for 20mb in bootcamp can i increase bootcamp partition before installing?

Yeah, just open Boot Camp Assistant, restore the hard drive to a single partition and then redo the partitions again. You should have a bare minimum of about 50GB as @The hatter said. You might want to just divide equally, that's usually the easiest thing to do.

I am going to buy either a Mac Air or Mac Pro Retina 8GB RAM and 256GB. And as I have to still run Windows programs I will install Parallels 9. As the Mac are both 64bit machines does that mean I need to install Windows 7 64bit or just install 32 bit? (Going with Win7 as I hate Win8). And I will install Office Pro 2013 64 bit too or 32 bit or is that automatically selected by the underlying OS (I use Word, Excel and Access mainly for a membership database of a local club) ? I am not a power user so would appreciate advice on way to go

Again thank you.  If I only use word, excel and access in the Win environment and Mac OS for email and safari for internet do I need anti virus software . Ie my connection to the world is mac only and I use office pro only to ruin the club, newsletters, membership database etc. and of course anything I do there can drag/drop to the mac environ to email.  That's my understanding anyway.  Next will my existing .pst file copy directly into mac mail or do I have to runs translator  as I recall reading something about that ages ago when I started thinking Mac

  • LaserJet 2550n network printer on XP host PC, can't install Windows 7 client laptop

Have Color LaserJet 2550n network printer connected to XP host PC. I can't install  Windows 7 client laptop for printer. The wireless network is fine, I can access documents back and forth, merely the printer doesn't work and there's no way to download 64bit drivers for this printer from HP.

    Resolved, not solved.
I talked to HP product support. The Officejet Pro 8500 A910 will not install on Windows XP (at least the Home Edition) when networked through a router. It will install through USB. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it with only USB connected to clean out all the network printer/scanner information. Product support claimed it would install through an ether net cable connected between the printer and computer but this does little good if you need internet access.

  • MacBook Pro Retina won't install windows 7 64bit

Hi guys, i'm tryng to install windows 7 64bit but no success till now. I'm using an updated version ( service pack 1 integrated) when windows loads i can't install it on the bootcamp partition because it says"windows needs an ntfs partition to install" . Then i cancel that partition, create one new ntfs one, and try to install.... then windows tells me "Impossible to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. For further information, look at the program's registry files"
It seems to be an error caused by a defective driver of the controller of the hard disk.... so the controller of the ssd. Or is it something else? how can i install windows via bootcamp on the new macbook pro with retina display?

you format the FAT/MSDOS to NTFS inside the Windows installer.
    Windows installer: Advanced Options tab.
You don't create, you just use the one "BOOTCAMP" that was created by Boot Camp Assistant.

  • Found "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" when installing Window 7 64bit.

    Hello,
I just bought X220i with Core i-3, ram 8G. When I tried to install Window 7 64bit (Coz of Ram 8G), I got the message “A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing...”. I did browse the driver (using USB 3 Driver) but, it didn't work.
    Any idea to resolve?
    Thanks in advance.

What media are you using to install win 7?  USB DVD drive, flash drive, ???  Downloaded ISO or Lenovo or Microsoft DVD?
One reason (of many) you can get this error message is bad media - corrupt download, bad burn, defective flash or optical media.  I've also heard of problems with USB ports causing this.  If you're using USB media, have you tried another port?
And as NINE asked, when in the process do you get this error?
    Z.
