Can't install - you do not have appropriate permissions

Running W7 64 bit, CS5.  I have right clicked and 'run as administrator' on the AdobeExtensionManagerCS5.exe and still this message persists.  I have tried both the 32bit and 64bit installs - neither work. I get the accept/decline terms and conditions page and then install fails with the usual "you do not have appropriate permissions" error.  I am the system administrator - I have all permissions.  Can someone pls advise how to install this plug-in.

unable to access firefox. I receive the following message" Windows can not access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permission to access. I restored the system to an earlier date when I could access Firefox. I removed an re-installed firefox no changes.

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 13.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Have tried to install Itunes on laptop running 32 bit Windows 7 - it says it installed successfully but then when I click to open I get the message "the folder is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder."

You will have to descripe where the drive is and much more.
Then go and look at the drive and folder and who has group ownership policy and more.

  • "you do not have appropriate access privileges" - WHAT??

I did something to corrupt the operating system on my MAC G5. I had some things I really didn't want to loose on the main hard drive specifically - my iCAL, my iWeb, and my email. I had some other things on the desktop also.
A friend helped me to recover the system. Their suggestion was to copy all my main USER files onto an external drive, reformat the MAC Hard drive and then copy the USER file over to the machine again using the same short name I did before and setting that account to be an Admin.
I did that and now when I try to write to the internal hard drives I get the message "you do not have appropriate access privileges" or file error access denied. But I can write to any of the external hard drives.
I cannot figure out how to fix this. I deleted the USER/USER NAME (my old one)/Library/Keychain/login/login key and that didn't solve the problem.
Could it be that I need to reseat the internal hard drive??? or do I need to do something under keychain for the main computer and not the two user files I have in there now??
I was trying to do something really simple like copy a jpg file someone sent me to the internal HD and it wouldn't let me.
I appreciate your help. Every time I have posted a question, someone has helped and I really appreciate it. I searched the database for a similar problem but couldn't find it.

If you still have the User folder you copied to the external, instead of dragging it back which I think is causing problems with permissions, how about reinstall your OS using the Install disks on the internal, and then from their respective applications import just those particulars you wanted to keep.
For example if you dragged back the file com.apple.Mail.plist back to its home location in ~/Library/Preferences your Mail should connect as before. Then, in Mail you can then import your externally copied Mailboxes.
That's how I would have gone about it if it was a case of scavenging what I could of a corrupted boot drive. Maybe you can still do it this way.
Dragging a (User) folder onto an OS won't satisfy the OS that this is a valid user, rather just a confusing thing to deal with. I know it seems a simple thing to do but the OS just doesn't get it. It prefers having the User account set up in itself, and then it knows about it.

  • Re Time Machine "You do not have appropriate access privileges to save file ".002332b7be8a" warning preventing backups--this may help temporarily

My TM is often giving me the "You do not have appropriate access privileges to save file “.002332b7be8a” in folder “Time Machine Backups”" message when I go to select my backup drive. I've reviewed past archived discussions on this and, like many other people, gotten completely flummoxed trying to find a permanent solution.  Tried the suggested fixes via Terminal and it didn't help because I couldn't get through the entire process without Terminal telling me it couldn't find a file or drive.  When I can find the time, I'm going to try Tinker Tool to reveal where that numbered file actually is and give it another go.
In the meantime, for those who are desperate to get their TM working again to get at least one backup done, I can offer people a temporary solution that's worked for me.
I've found that restarting my iMac somehow resets TM and usually allows it to do at least one of its automatic backups, sometimes several, before it reverts back to failing and producing that same darn warning message.  I only want a backup done once a day, so it's not that inconvenient to go this route.
There's another even quicker  method (perhaps a little more risky but hasn't been a problem for me yet) that I've been using more recently, and that is to simply unplug the external while the iMac is on (I close system preferences first though, and make sure TM isn't actually doing anything at the time) then plugging it back in and choosing the backup drive again in the TM system preferences window once that drive has shown up again in the Mac's list of devices.  I don't get that warning message when I do this.  It works every time for me and so far it hasn't lost or corrupted any data on the external, despite the warning message you get on Macs when you unplug a USB device without ejecting it first.  However, do this at your own risk--don't flame me if it backfires on you.  If you're of the opinion that it's not wise to unplug the device this way, then fine, go ahead and state such in this thread, but be polite about it.
Hope this helps anyone who's frantic to make a backup without having to start from square one with a whole new complete initial backup (can take many hours to make one) on a fresh external drive.
By the way, I've read somewhere that this problem was fixed with Snow Leopard.  Whether that's true is another matter.  I'm not quite ready to update to 10.6 for other reasons, even though I bought it, and I figure some other people are also still using 10.5.8 out of fear and loathing around the unknowns of installing a new OS too, so that's why I thought I'd post this message (couldn't find a discussion around this that was still active and not archived).

Do you mean in #C5 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting?

It should be at the top level of the drive.

Yes.  I'm not sure if it was 10.6.0 or one of the early updates, but I haven't seen any reports of this in quite a while.

  • "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file, you may not have appropriate permission to access the item" Why?

Whenever i try to access any folder on my computer(Windows 7), it tells me "Windows
cannot access the specified device, path, or file, you may not have appropriate permission to access the item",
    this happens even for My

Your System". After trying it numerous times, I went to the visual studio installation directory, and removed
the installation files from there. I even removed the files from the C:\Program
Data folder, then i went back to Programs
and Features and tried to remove the listing there, but I got a dialog box saying "you
don't have sufficient access to uninstall visual studio" . I googled this problem and found this  solution
    (http://superuser.com/a/174198)
then i tried using the solution, I used SubinAcl and
changed the registry permissions as mentioned in the solution and ended up like this!
All the access permissions are set correctly (that's what I can make out...)

    First cd /var/opt/oracle
You will find a file called oraInst.loc # cat oraInst.loc
    inventory_loc=/oracle/PR1/oraInventory
    inst_group=dba
Use vi or emacs to edit the file and change the inventory_loc to the directory of the oracle instance you are currently installing. ie inventory_loc=/oracle/PR2/oraInventory

  • G5 - you do not have sufficient permissions

I have a problem similar to one addressed by joshz last June. But I have gone one better - worse.
I was trying to install an upgrade to Firefox on my G5 PPC and kept getting "you do not have sufficient permissions" message. I did the "apply to enclosed items" on my user folder and still got the "not sufficient permissions". So in frustration I used that command in the Info window for the whole boot drive. It then let me install Firefox. However I noticed that little locks appeared on the icons for my three external drives, two firewire and one USB, and I could not open the Info windows. So I thought I should reboot. (by the way I moved those external drives to my Intel iMac to check them out but the locks went with them)
It would not reboot and the fans came on full blast. I reset PRAM and would get a gray screen w/ slashed circle and full fans. I reset NVRAM in Open Firmware and got a brief flash of the Apple screen then the gray w/ slashed circle and full fans. Next in Open Firmware I entered mac-reboot. this time I got the gray screen and then this thread repeated three times:

I have available install disk for OS X 10.5.1 and DiskWarrior Rev 901. Before I try booting with either of these, does any one know if joshz's Unix scripts might unlock the boot drive and external drives? The scripts:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal from the affected account.
IMPORTANT NOTE: copy the blue text in. Don't attempt to retype it, as a mistake could cause more issues.
    2. Copy the blue text in, and press enter. chmod -R -N ~
That command removes all ACL entries from your home folder. The next commands put them back where they should be.
    3. (Press enter after copying and pasting this command in). chmod +a "everyone deny delete" ~/ ~/Desktop ~/Documents ~/Downloads ~/Library ~/Movies ~/Music ~/Pictures ~/Public ~/Sites
    4. (Press enter after copying and pasting this command in). chmod +a "`id -un` allow list,addfile,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextattr, writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,chown,file_inherit,directoryinherit" ~/Public/Drop\ Box
After running those commands, your home folder permissions should be fine. NOTE: You may get a response:
chmod: Failed to clear ACL on file Commands: Invalid argument
chmod: Failed to clear ACL on file Notification: Invalid argument
That is safe to ignore. The rest of the commands will still work fine.
    Any good advice here?
    To Joshz,
I will never use "Apply to enclosed items" again.

OK, these comments are helpful. Now regarding backing up my home folder, can the G5 be booted in target mode from my Intel iMac in order to copy the home folder?
yes, but if you have TM backups there is no great need to do this.
Also is there a way to unlock the external drives without using the G5? The external USB drive has all my Time Machine backups on it. The Firewire drives have much of my customer data. Thanks to all for the advice so far.
you can unlock those drives from terminal after you reinstall the OS.
run the following terminal commands from and admin account with drives attached.
    sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
    sudo chmod a+rx /volumes/*
you'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see). that's normal.

  • You do not have security permissions to complete this operation. Contact your administrator for more information.

    Hi everyone,
I had a little trouble finding this on ony forums, so i decided to write it myself.
I have setup on my Windows server 2008 machine fax server manager. It is working well (recieving faxes and forwarding it through email)
It has been setup with a d-link external fax modem.
Everytime i try to connect my client computer (windows vista business 32 bit)  to the fax server through windows keep getting " you do not have security permissions to complete this operation. Contact your administrator for more information."
I am having a little trouble getting around it as i am the system administrator and have all the rights to do this. I have also added extra to my account fax rights as i thorght, that could of been the problem. I have also added my account in the fax server manager, but that did not work as well.
Everything is set up on a domain and the server that is running fax service manager is on it aswell, not sure what could be the problem.
Thank you in advanced for your help

    Hi,
    Thanks for the post.
First, I would like to confirm if the issue occurs with the Domain Admins.
If so, please check if the relevant group policies are set appropriate.
To resolve this issue, make sure that the Network Service account and the Local Service account is added to the following policy settings on the domain controller:
    ·         Adjust memory quotas for a process
    ·         Generate security audits
    ·         Log on as a service
    ·         Replace a process level token
    ·         Log on as a batch job
To configure the policy settings for the Network Service account on the domain controller, follow these steps:
    1.    Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Local Security Policy.
    2.    Expand Local Policies, and then click User Rights Assignment.
The policy settings are displayed in the right pane.
    3.    Double-click the policy setting that you want to add the Network Service account to.
    4.    If the Network Service account and the Local service account is not in the list of users and groups that are assigned to that policy setting, click Add User or Group.
    5.    In the Select User or Groups dialog box, type Network Service in the Enter the object names to select box, and then click OK.
    6.    Verify that NETWORK SERVICE is displayed in the list of users and groups that are assigned to that policy setting, and then click OK.
    7.    Add Local service the same way.
    8.    Reboot the server.
    Does it work?
If the problem continues, Please collect the MPSReport from Windows Server 2008.
    1. Download proper MPS Report tool from the website below.
    Microsoft Product Support Reports
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-88B7-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en
    2. Double-click to run it, if requirement is not met, please follow the wizard to download and install them. After that, click Next, when the "Select the diagnostics you want to run" page appears, select "General", “Business Networks”, click Next.
    3. After collecting all log files, choose "Save the results", choose a folder to save <Computername>MPSReports.cab file.
Use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the file and then give me the download address.
    Hope this helps.

  • "Unable to setup Inventory, you may not have proper Permissions."

Has anyone had this problem when the GROUP NAME screen appears. After I type the groupname "oinstall", a window opens and states the following:
"Unable to setup Inventory, you may not have proper Permissions."
What is puzzling is that it (Oracle Universal Installer) is able create the directory structure /d01/app/oracle/oraInventory/Install.Platform. Which implies that it has the proper permissions. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Well, there isn't much I can do.
Does anyone have an answer to this problem or have seen this before?
    Thanks

Check the list of prerequisites in the installation manual and be sure you have all of them. Also the manual or couple page addendum that comes with it should refer to an online site where you can find updates. Be sure to check it.
I ran the 9.2.0 install and applied 9.2.0.4 on AIX 5.2L without a hitch so I do not think I could be of much help. But one thing you might want to consider is if Oracle says that a piece of the OS is missing then even if you are running the machine standalone you might need the "group" piece to be installed as part of the OS.
I am not an administrator so the name did not strike any bells but I once tried to install Oracle on a Silicon Graphics box only to discover that it was missing the C compiler. Oracle needs the archive feature to access libraries during the install (link) and failed to install because it was missing. Once I got it installed the reinstallation went perfect.

the 'trusted data soruces' list in administration. Existing reports I have created show OK on the site.
When user, who has full control of the entire site, clicks "add a new item" in the BI Reports list, SharePoint launches Dashboard Designer OK.
The problem is when Dashboard Designer loads, it does not load the existing data sources & reports. Clicking on the refresh icon results in the error:
You do not have sufficient permissions to complete the request.
If I add this user to the Site Collection Administrators list, the user can refresh and view the data sources & reports OK. Is this a requirement to create reports in Dashboard Designer? It is not acceptable to set all
our report designer users as the site collection administrator.
    Cheers
    Tyson

    Hi,
Have you also tried to assign rights using the technique mentioned in the above given document (i.e. using Dashboard Designer):
Important To assign or change user permissions for dashboard items, you must have
Full Control permissions. Although you can create and publish dashboard items with
Design permissions, you cannot assign or change permissions for dashboard items unless you also have
Full Control (Site) or Site Collection Administrator permissions.
Use the SharePoint Permissions dialog box to assign or change user permissions for a dashboard item. You can open the
SharePoint Permissions dialog box from Dashboard Designer or from the SharePoint list or document library that contains the dashboard item. The following sections describe both methods.
Edit user permissions in Dashboard Designer
In the Workspace Browser, click PerformancePoint Content or
Data Connections, depending on the item that you want to modify. Then, in the center pane, double-click the dashboard item to open it for editing.
In the ribbon, click the Home tab, locate the Item group, and then click
Permissions. A browser window opens, which enables you to view or change the SharePoint permissions for the dashboard item that you opened.
Use the SharePoint permissions dialog box to modify the user permissions for your dashboard item, and then save your changes.
Edit user permissions in a SharePoint list or document library
Locate the dashboard item that you want to modify in its SharePoint list or document library.
Select the check box that is next to the name of the dashboard item. At first glance, you might not see a check box next to your dashboard item. The check box is visible when you put your cursor next to the
Title column, which is located next to the name of the dashboard item. The ribbon appears in the SharePoint site.
In the SharePoint ribbon, click List Tools, and then click
Items. Locate the Manage section, and then click
Document Permissions. A SharePoint Permissions dialog box opens. This enables you to view and change the user permissions for the item that you selected.
Use the SharePoint Permissions dialog box to modify user permissions for your dashboard item, and then save your changes.
Please tell us if this approach shows different permissions assigned and solves your problem.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Martin
