Can't invite people to events in iCal

I'm having problems inviting people to attend events in iCal on my Macbook Pro. It works fine on my iMac through a MobileMe subscription and through MobileMe the two computers and my iPhone sync perfectly.
When I try and send out the invitations, it says that I need to create an address card for myself in address book. This is also synced through MobileMe to my iMac and iPhone so therefore I can't understand why it won't send out the email. The address details are the same and Mail works fine on both computers and the iPhone.
Does anyone have any suggestions - I'm sure this is a quick fix but I simply don't know what else to do!
Cheers,

You might want to open AddressBook, look for your address card (create one if you don't have one), and mark it as yours.
Hope this helps

  • Why can't I invite people to events in Calendar app?

When I open my calendar app and click to add a new event, the "Invitees" field does not appear and I cannot invite people to events. The field DOES appear on my iPhone (which is setup with a separate Apple ID).
Does anyone know why this is happening? I have done countless searches to try to learn if there is a bug, but have not found anything.

    Figured it out.
Didn't have my calendar syncing with iCloud. Turning that on fixed the problem.

  • I can no longer create an event on iCal by double clicking on a time or date, nor can I double click on an existing event! HELP!

I can no longer create an event on iCal by double clicking on a time or date, nor can I double click on an existing event! HELP!
The only way I have to create an event is by using the "+" button, which is very limiting!
I am running the latest version of Mac OS X and all the updates.
Anyone know how I could get a proper use of my iCal ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you list the steps you have taken to fix this it will help.
Have you tried using the File > New Event menu item?
Have you logged the user account out/ restarted the computer?
Have you tried un-syncing any accounts synced to Calendar?
Is there some change made to the computer that may have triggered this?

  • Can't add all-day events in iCal w/Lion

After Lion 10.7.1 upgrade, I can add an all-day event in iCal on my MacBook but not on my MacBook Air.  On the Air an event added with no time just does not appear.  On the Air an event added with a time appears, but editing the event and checking the "all-day" box causes the event to disappear.

    >>Who'd have thought this was optional?
Again... S. Jobs apparently thinks its optional.
         Devolution...like many things in Lion.

  • How to invite people to events in Calendar?

I have been using my Mac, IPhone and IPad2 since quite a long time and just recently I noticed that, unlike Calendar in the Macbook Pro,  if you add an event in Calendar, you can't invite other people to it. Does someone know if there is fix around it?

If you have an CalDAV calendar such as MobileMe, Gmail, Yahoo, etc... you should be able to invite people.
You can do this by going to the Calendar application > Clicking the '+' button to make a new event > Where it says 'Invitees' you can click that and add folks who you want to invite to that calendar.
This cannot be done with the iPad's default calendar, as there is no e-mail system that it is attached to.

  • How can I hide a single event in iCal?

I'd like to be able to mark the occasional event in iCal private, or hidden from view, but everything else visible. Is this possible?

I agree, I can post a calendar from Outlook 2007 to my corporate iCal Server marking items as private and thus anyone subscribing to my calendar won't see what the appointment is - only that I have something in my schedule. It'd be something awesome if the Apple iCal could be able to do the same thing.

  • Can't add a new event to iCal on my iMac - but the event sync's to my iPad - is this a Lion problem? iCloud is on.

Can't add a NEW EVENT to my iCal on my iMac- however the event is sync'd to my iPad with no problem. iCloud is turned on for iCal. Is this a Lion problem or something turned pff. I cannot find an answer. Help?

    William,
It is a possibility that you are adding new events to your "On My Mac" calendars.
"On My Mac" calendars will not sync with iCloud. After backing up the "On My Mac" calendars, and ensuring that all events are duplicated on your iCloud calendars you can delete any "On My Mac" calendars.
For further troubleshooting advice read iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar.

I am now on iCloud.  Since I went to iCloud, I can no longer add events on ICal on the phone.  I only use iCal from the phone, not from my Mac.  I have removed iCal from ICloud and still no change.  I cannot add events to my iPhone ICal.  Help!
    I have an iPhone 4.

  • Can't edit Google Calendar events in iCal

I am using Google Calendar's new CalDAV sync system and their "Calaboration" tool to sync my iCal (version 3.0.5, and I'm using Mac OS 10.5.2) with my Google Calendars, per the instructions on this page:
    http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=99358#ical
It seems to work ok in that I can now see my google calendar events in iCal. I can also add an event to that calendar in iCal, and it will sync to my google calendar. However, I can't seem to edit an event in iCal that was created on the Google Calendar web page. That is, all my events that I created in Google Calendar do indeed appear in iCal, but I can't edit them in iCal. I can edit events that I create for that calendar in iCal, but not ones I created in google calendar. Not a huge deal, but I was wondering if this is how it is supposed to work, because it seems a tad inconvenient.
(I do have my e-mail address in my address book "me" card, so that's not the problem.)

Yeah, I tried deleting the calendars in iCal and re-synching to them via Calaboration, but the same problem persisted.
I did find the solution after a bit of experimenting, though. To solve it, I basically created a new calendar on Google Calendar, imported all my events from my old google calendar into it, then used Calaboration to sync iCal to the new Google calendar, and now I can edit events in iCal and GCal without problems. I don't actually know what the problem WAS, but this seems to have solved it. Maybe I made my original Google Calendar too long ago and it had some old bad settings I couldn't see? I dunno, but it doesn't matter now.
For those who might have this same problem, here's how I transferred my old Google Calendar events into a new Google Calendar without losing anything: (You actually don't need to delete your old Google Calendar at all if you don't want to, so there's no reason to worry about losing your events.)
    1. In GCal, click the "settings" link at the top right of the web page. Then select the "Calendars" tab. Click the "Export My Calendars" link, which should be under your list of calendars, next to the cancel button. This will download a .zip file to your computer, containing all of your google calendars as individual .ics files. Go ahead and unzip them so that the .ics file for the calendar you want to duplicate is sitting in a folder somewhere on your computer.
    2. Now In GCal, click on the "Create" link on the lower righthand side of the "My Calendars" box, which is on the lefthand side of the screen.
    3. Create a new blank calendar and name it whatever you want. This is the blank calendar into which you will import your old calendar's events.
    4. Now, in GCal, click "Add" at the bottom right of the "Other Calendars" box, which is under the "My Calendars" box on the left side of the web page.
    5. Select "Import Calendar".
    6. Click "Choose File" and browse to the .ics file you want to duplicate on your computer.
    7. In the "Choose Calendar" pull-down menu, select the new, blank calendar you made in step 3.
    8. Click Import. This may take a few minutes, depending on the number of events you have in your .ics calendar file.
    9. Once it's done, look at the calendar to make sure your events all came into your new Google Calendar ok. It should look exactly like the original google calendar, but it will be a different color.
    10. NOW, use Calaboration to sync your iCal to the New Calendar you just made in Google Calendar.
    11. Once it's done synching, you should be able to edit events in the calendar in iCal.

  • Adding/inviting events to iCal and inviting others to events via iCal

Topic: iPhone's iCal vs Blackberry Calendar
Issue: I own a BB and an iphone. I am trying to synce events that I have on my iphone to events that I have on my blackberry and vice versa. Possible? Yes. But how????
I am also trying to do the same via iCal on my mac. I tried to add an even using the iCal on my mac where it says "invite attendee's" and I created a contact for the email of the individual but the "create a contact for attendee" kept coming up and its becomming very annoying.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks a million,

iCal, under iOS 5.1, has repeatedly frozen on me when creating a new event as well. Previously, the only fix I found was to do a Restore, though that seemed to be a bit of a waste considering iCal was the only app having a problem. If it was a third party app, I would just delete it from the iPod Touch and have it reinstalled during the next sync. However, syncing did not fix iCal's being frozen. I would close out of it, do the sync and then open it again only to find it was still frozen. The hard power down was a much faster fix. Thank you Norman!

  • Can't delete calendars or events from iCal

I'm trying to delete Calendars from iCal, but after I delete them, they reappear. I've tried deleting the calendars and calendar cache from the user library, but to no avail. In addition, when I try to change or delete an event, it ends up duplicating the event so that there is multiple copies of the same event on the same day. I've tried to find someone else who has had this problem, but came up empty. Any suggestions? Can I get rid of iCal and reinstall it somehow?
P.S. there are multiple users on this computer, but only one of them uses iCal.

    Good question.
You do not have to remove the entire directory. However, there are other caches besides the com.apple.ical directory that may be present that can impact iCal's performance. These directories are often created by non-Apple programs involved in syncing (Entourage, Pocket Mac, Blackberry software, Palm Desktop software, etc.)
The question is, which caches might be there for each unique computer setup and are they doing something to iCal? That takes a great deal of work which few people are willing to do (not to mention you have to know which folders are the culprits)
Cache files are re-generated once the program that uses them is launched. I have never personally encountered a program that stored any vital data in the cache. Caches are (in general) used to improve program performance of an application during use, not to store data.
For users that are concerned about their caches, removing ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal/ is certainly an acceptable alternative (if not all encompassing).

  • Can't delete a repeating event in iCal.

I have an event that occurs every other Friday throughout the year. I need to delete it, but it only disappears for one or two seconds then it reappears. Anyone have an idea on how to permanently make it go away?

Odd thing is happening in iCal when creating a new event, clicking on the plus button creates a new calendar and not an event.
This is normal. You can create a new event by double-clicking within the day in any of the views (in Day or Week view double-click on the time for the event): select the calendar you want to add to in the sidebar first.

  • How can I trigger an automated event in iCal, when I first start it in the morning, but not if I fire it up later again?

    Hey,
I'm trying to fix an issue I had for a while with a automator script I want to use. I added several things it should do, test it, and it works fine. I use it usually as an workflow. But I tried to implement it through an iCal event! Which does not work. (and I checked already in preferences if the turn off all iCal alarms is unchecked) I the workflow basically to open when I first fire up the MacBook, but only once, not when I start it up again later n the day. So I thought about adding the workflow to the startup, but that would open it every time I start my MacBook. How can I get around that? By a iCal event? If yes, how can I fix it, that it starts not at a specific time ( I don't start my computer at the same time every day) but when I first open it.
    Thanks for any help.

I'd write an AppleScript, save it as an app, and have it run as a login item. The script would look for a text file saved in, say, <~/Library/Preferences>. If the file didn't exist, it would create it. Each line in the file would contain a date. The script would look for the last line in the file and it would compare it to the current date. If it was older than the current date, the script would execute the workflow, then it would write the current date in the file, and then quit. If it was the current date, it would just quit. This way, the workflow would be executed at login, but only once in every 24 hours.
