Can't iPhoto '11 export video?

I have videos taken from my iPhone that are in the new iPhoto that I just upgraded to... but iPhoto doesn't seem to export video to QT or anywhere else as it used to. Did Apple really make a new iPhoto version where you can't even get iPhone video out of there?

Interesting discussion.
I thought exporting video from iPhoto would export my mp4 files, which are from a 2014 Canon digital camera.
Unfortunately, the camera wasn't mine and its no longer accessible to me.
Using iMovie I was not able to find any of my video clips using the Events or Import !?
Whenever I tried to EXPORT video from iPhoto, I got an error message:
After looking though the support comment here, I went back to iPhoto menus and like for the files:
File > Reveal in Finger > Original file
That found my original mp4 video clips and from there was able to copy them to my desktop.
After that, iMovie imported them as I had expected.
Current OS and patches:
Mac OS X 10.9,4 (Mavericks)
iMovie       10.0.4
iPhoto         9.5.1

  • Can Premiere Elements 13 export videos at 60 FPS?

I am currently using Premiere Elements 10, and the highest quality video I am able to export for any file type is only 30 Frames Per Second. Does Premiere Elements 13 allow you to export videos at 60 Frames Per Second?
I am trying to export high quality gameplay footage captured at 60 FPS. I can import those videos into Premiere Elements 10, but since I can only export 30 FPS videos, the quality suffers.

    apogue87
Whether you use Premiere Elements 10 or 13, you should have the opportunity to export to file with a frame rate of 59.94/60 progressive frames per second. You do that my customizing the preset under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset.
If you post properties of your Timeline content and the export format that you seek, I will give you more specific details. You should not have to go to 13 for what you seek.
Please review and consider, and supply more information.
    Thank you.

  • Bad Bug in iPhoto 8 exporting videos to folder

I have recently been archiving my photos by making a DVD slide show, and also including the original photos on the data portion of the DVD. I typically would make a slideshow in iPhoto, and then export all of the files in the album to a folder, which I would then put onto the DVD to access later with iDVD. I noticed in iPhoto 8 that when you choose File>Export, and select Original format, that it DOES NOT export the Videos correctly, like it had in iPhoto 6. It actually only creates a little image of the first frame. I learned this the hard way. And to top it all off, I tried to grab the files with TIME MACHINE, only to realize that you need to restore the ENTIRE iPhoto library, you cant just do a few videos. BUNK!!!
Apple Please get on top of this. Time machine is USELESS if I have to restore my entire 40 gig iPhoto library, and lose all the work I've done that day. Luckily I am craftier then you, and manually accessed the photos on the drive, which is a chore to navigate. Most people aren't as savvy. Git er Dun!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It's working correctly for me, i.e. exporting with Kind set to Original. What version of iPhoto are you at? Have you installed the latest iPhoto update as well as the iLife Support 1.1.1 update?
If you have try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again.
    If that doesn't help then:
1 - create a new text library, import a couple of video and photo files and try again. If it works you library is the culprit. If it doesn't work try #2.
2 - log into another account and try from there. If you don't have another account it a good troubleshooting tool. Create a plain, non-administrative account, run iPhoto to create a new library, import a couple of video and image files and try the export. If it works then something in your primary account is the culprit and could be a damaged pref file for some other app that iPhoto uses. Here's how to check that out.
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
5 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

how can i export video clips in iphoto into imovie?

    Hello andrewmarkp,
As long as the videos are in a format that can be used by iMovie, they will appear in your Event Browser, under 'iPhoto Videos.'
iMovie '11: Use video from your iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2196
If you’ve imported video from your digital camera into iPhoto, it appears automatically in your iMovie Event Library (as long as the video is in a compatible format).
To use iPhoto video in iMovie:
Click iPhoto Videos in the Event Library.
The videos appear in the Event browser on the right. You can select and use the video just as you would any other footage.
To learn about importing video into iPhoto, open iPhoto and choose Help > iPhoto Help.
    Cheers,

  • I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library?

I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library? I assumed that like  the videos in iPhoto, I would be able to access the videos in Aperture through iMovie. Come on Apple! I am starting to get frustrated with your products here. And this is saying a lot when I have been using and loving apple products for the last 4 years.

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.
    APPLE. What are you doing?

I have also tried from the iphoto side, to export the videos or share them to final cut.  I have had no luck.
I have tried to drag and drop indidual video clips from iphoto to fcp, and the programs simply do not respond to each other
I can see in the OLDER version of final cut pro x, where it has IMPORT FILES as an option, it was possible.  I see this on forums and youtube videos of the older versions.
However, the newer version that i have, does not have IMPORT 'FILES' as an option, it is simply all lumped together as IMPORT 'MEDIA'
    Thank You for the Help

at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
    vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?

  • Cannot export video's from iphoto '08

I want to export videos in mp4 format that were imported from my camera into iphoto '08.
The first problem is that "export..." won't work. I selected the 7 videos, then "Export...". I selected file format. However, it doesn't recognize that anything has been selected and grey's out the "Export" button.
So, I came up with an alternate plan...burn them to a cd. I selected the same 7 videos and then "burn" section from the "share" menu. It prompts me for a cd, which I inserted. Then, I see a report that these 7 video's take 90MB of space...I hit continue and the cd is burned. However, when I look at the cd later(and I have done this twice now), the cd doesn't have any of the videos, but it does contain the 172 photo's that are in the same album. Again, I did this twice. I selected the album, then typed mp4 into the search window, then selected the 7 resulting videos. And the program was telling me it had 7 photos.
I am VERY frustrated that I have found 2 bugs in this software. I used to be able to export video's all day long. Not good.
Since I am complaining now, the only reason I am doing any of this is because I want to give my friends a CD with all the photos and videos from our recent trip. They have a mac...should be piece of cake. It is not, because the video's just sit in iphoto, but I can't do anything with them. I wish slide show would seemlessly integrate photo's and video in order. My Sanyo camera does this, but my Mac doesn't. I tried sending all the photo's and video's to iDVD, and it worked, but that takes hours to do all the rendering...and at the end of the day, the quality isn't as good.....
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Phil

There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services.
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.

  • Exporting video in iphoto

I made a video clip with my camera which I would like to use with and Imovie project. How do I get it into my imovie project?

You can do this from the iMovie interface. Or export from iPhoto (File -> Export, Kind: Original) and import to iMovie.

  • Exporting videos from iPhoto

For the life of me, I can't figure out a way to export videos which I imported into iPhoto from my camera. I can export it to my desktop but can't export them in a format that I can then import into Vimeo or other video sharing site.
What the heck does a guy gotta do to share his simple .avi videos with others on the Internet?
I tried exporting it from Quicktime too, but sadly, exporting my own video from Quicktime requires that I have a Pro account. Sad but true.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
To export a video from iPhoto:
Select the video in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. Set the *Kind: to Original*. This will export your video.
can't export them in a format that I can then import into Vimeo or other video sharing site.
Why? What formats do they require? Do the videos require shifting to a new format?
What the heck does a guy gotta do to share his simple .avi videos with others on the Internet?
Who can tell, when you don’t explain where the procedure breaks down for you.
I tried exporting it from Quicktime too, but sadly, exporting my own video from Quicktime requires that I have a Pro account. Sad but true.
Why is that sad? When you export from Quicktime you are shifting formats or otherwise editing the video.

  • IPhoto: Export videos with titles

All of my videos are in iPhoto, and I've added titles to all of the videos within iPhoto.
However, when I EXPORT these videos to my desktop, iPhoto doesn't export them with the titles that I've assigned to them in iPhoto.
iPhoto exports them with their generic title (such as "img_0015.mov") that they originally had when I first shot the videos.
How can I get iPhoto to export all of these videos with their titles intact?

  • IPhoto '11 Flickr Video Export Issue

I recently upgraded to iPhoto '11, and for the first time last night attempted to export some videos to my Flickr page using the "Share" command (i've had no problems exporting photos using this method).
The videos I wanted to export uploaded correctly, but when I went to my Flickr page I noticed that the video thumbnail images were just blank white squares. I tried playing them anyway and found that the audio uploaded without a problem, but there isn't any video.
Has anyone else run into this issue? I assume that it has something to do with the encoding/formatting/compression that iPhoto uses prior to uploading to my Flickr account.
    Any ideas?

    Same problem happened to me.
I can view videos without a problem in iPhoto, but when I try to watch it on flickr after uploaded using iPhoto,
the video is just a white screen with sound.
The information pane on the right side of iPhoto says the videos is
    1280x720 14.1MB MPEG-4
    Using iPhoto 11 version9.4.3
The video is taken using Ricoh camera.

  • How do you export video to an external drive from iPhoto?

Hi, I have been trying to export video footage from iphoto onto an external hard drive only to find it no longer plays and is only a single image. What am I doing wrong...
    Karen

Unless you exported the files using the Kind = Original option all you'll get for each item, photo or video, will be a jpeg file.
If you want to export only the videos do a search in the library for keyword = movie as iPhoto adds that keyword to all movies/videos imported.  Then you can export them to a folder on the Destkop as Originals.
Or create a Smart Album like this:
Then you can select the contents of the album and export.
