Can't iTunes to Launch

Okay...
Windows XP Pro.
Upgraded to latest version of iTunes.
Use Firefox and NOT IE.
Cablemodem with Grande Communications.
iTunes will NOT launch. Get the same error message that some others seem to be getting. Either report or close.
Have reinstalled iTunes and QuickTime so many times its pitiful.
QuickTime stand alone will not launch. Will not install. Some dll error.
Went into MSConfig and unchecked iTunes in startup, have tried all of this and nothing.
When I get to the music store, by going directly to the website and then hitting the link, it just flashes and tries to load but never seems to get there...
Any answers?
Please? Just got the Oakleys with the MP3 Player for Xmas, and an iTunes card, so would love do download a few songs before I have to travel for the holidays, tomorrow.
Been at this 2 days now...

Go back into msconfig and follow these directions

My guess is that it's McAfee causing a conflict.

  • How can I stop iTunes from launching and playing by itself?

iTunes launches and plays by itself, which is very annoying, given that there is no discernable reason for it to do so.
Nothing in preferences should allow this. No device is connected. The library is not being shared.
Has anyone found a solution to this?

Check Dashboard to see if you have any iTunes-related widgets running. If so, close them and see if that makes a difference. Similarly, look for any third-party apps that may be related to iTunes, such as apps that copy "now playing" information to a web site.
Another possibility is external speakers, if you have them. Another user here found that a loose speaker connection may cause random launching and playing on iTunes. Try wiggling the speaker plug and see if that causes iTunes to launch.  If so, unplugging and reconnecting the speakers may cure the problem. If not, you may have a defective speaker jack or an off-size plug on the speakers.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I stop iTunes from launching when I hit the button on my head phones

On my MBP I have some head phones that have an inline mic with call answer button. The button on the head phones is fairly sensitive and I tend to bump it on accident often. When I hit the button iTunes is launched or if I have it open it starts music.
Is there anyway to stop this from happening? This is driving me crazy!

This problem has been an issue for a number of months and has led to frustration and public humiliation on countless occasions.
When disconnecting from my Bose Soundlink at home (playing nothing) in order to taking my laptop on the run I open my laptop to find that the entire contents of my iTunes playlist is being belted in public. The subway, the library, my classroom is not the time or place for my laptop to make the decision to begin playing my music without permission. When at home and my Soundlink goes on standby I have nearly had a heart attack when my laptop spontaneously begins blaring my music when I wasn't even touching the thing.
I love my Soundlink and I love my Mac but together the devices are causing no end of aggravation with no fix in sight. With each OS update I hope the problem is addressed but to no avail, it is getting tiresome that such a flaw isn't being fixed in a timely manner.

  • ITunes Mac launches on its own - interferes with Magicjack and Airport

I have a headless Mac Mini 2010 which I occasionally hook up to my HD-TV that occasionally will launch on its own iTunes a short period after boot. Temporarily I've had to stop this action by compressing the application into an archive.   We are running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  As soon as iTunes launches, the airport connection from the Mac Mini disappears, and the Magicjack software goes in the background and my Magicjack connection then dies.  It happens at random, and I can't figure out why.
I upgraded to Airport firmware 7.6 on my Airport Extreme base station, and that didn't help.  But it seems it stays connected always when there is a keyboard connected, but once I remove it, that connection dies after a few calls.  Zapping the PRAM may have helped for now, and then immediately after removing the keyboard and mouse.   Lately it is working fine, so I don't want to mess with it, but anyone know why iTunes would launch on its own even when the helper is not listed in the Login Items?
When I've played around with it, the Airport won't accept my WPA2 password on the Mac  Mini even though I'm careful with the password case, and username, and other computers on the airport are working fine.  And yes, I disabled all the Bluetooth settings for looking for a keyboard when it is not connected, and the iTunes launching still happens.  I would like to leave iTunes unarchived on the machine so I can use the iTunes sharing to connect to my HDTV occasionally since my original AppleTV doesn't work reliably with it either.  I only want to connect a keyboard and mouse when I connect to my HDTV, but then otherwise leave those disconnected and it not interfere with my Magicjack.
If someone can help me find a way to leave iTunes unarchived, while keeping my Magicjack always up, and my Airport connection never dying that would be great!   Thank you.

Upeace, it's so long ago I can't remember now… But I do know that my newer MBP's volume can be affected by someone tinkering with the Apple TV remote. Is that a possibility? If so you can turn this off in System Preferences. It's not at all easy to find though—you have to go into 'Security Privacy > Firewall > Advanced' and then tick 'Disable remote control infrared receiver'.

  • Issues with Itunes not launching (Windows 7)

i have most current versions of itunes and quicktime (Ive read quicktime needs to be updated for itunes to work properly. ive deleted and re-downloaded both programs several times. Someone told me to check the Processes tab from the task manager and see what shows up when itunes is launched. It shows "itunes exe *32." So.... now what?

No don't remove Quick.ime, that has nothing to do with Apple.
So now QUicktime launches. Other software particularly some codec packs install unwanted Quicktime components that can mess up Quicktime.
Now Quicktime launches, and you check that it is the latest version. An out of date Quicktime can cause iTunes launch failure.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Could you also recheck the task manager, if iTunes.exe is still running try killing the proces or restart your PC.
If not, does iTunes still persist in the task manager when you try to start iTunes?
Double checking, do you get any kind of error message from iTunes if so, post it in full.
It might also be worth looking in the Event viewer to see if there is any error mentioning iTunes in the Application log.
If you find one double click on it and copy the result into your post. Using the copy button.

  • ITune automatically launching and playing music

I don't know why my iTune keeps launching itself and playing music early in the moring!!!
How can I stop it??? HELP, plz...

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be a series of messages in the Terminal window like this:
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The messages won't be spaced equally apart in time, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
    Wait for the final message
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the last message you saw. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • ITunes 8 launch issues

    _Hello everyone!_
i'd installed the new version of itunes (8) yesterday, and ever since i just cant open it!
it's not like it is writing me an error or something-
it's just that i double-click itunes and nothing happens but i can see in the application manager that itunes does work, but i can't see or actually launch it.
    p.s
i have this problem is only with itunes 8
    thanks!

Do you mean that whey you try to launch iTunes, it doesn't launch but there is no error message, but when you look on the processes tab in Task Manager you can see iTunes.exe in the task manager.
If this is it first try this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
I have given the XP version, but there is a link to the Vista version on the page. You did not give your operating system.
If that doesn't work, the most common thing is a problem with cryptographic dlls. Before checking them it is important to be sure your system is from malware as this can cause the problem and interfere with a solution.
Run a scan with up to date definitions, there is an on line scan you can do at Kaspersky:
    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
It is good at detecting problems but unfortunately the free scan doesn't remove them.
Beware of searching the internet for malware removal software, much of it installs malware, stick only to the big names.
Next try working carefully though *method 4* in this article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
Make a note of any error messages, and post back with the names of any files mentioned. This is important.
If there are no error messages try starting iTunes.

  • ITunes 8 - Win: STOP iTunes from launching when I connect iPhone???

    Hello,
I have searched around a lot and have seen various responses to this question, but cannot seem to find a definitive way to stop iTunes from launching every time I connect my iPhone 3G.
If this is possible, can someone please provide specific instructions on how to do this?
    Windows Vista - iPhone 3G - iTunes 8
    Thank you!

    Google is your friend, Chad.
Found this link: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?p=513358 with some info excerpted below.
    "+However, there is a workaround solution:+
+Allowing auto-syncing for all devices in Preferences, and then turning automatic syncing off for the device in Summary, corrects the problem and prevents iTunes from auto-launching when the device is connected.+"
It may be Mac specific, but maybe not. Try it out. If not, continue to Google for "Disable iTunes Auto Launch (or auto start).
    Best of Luck

  • What is the deal with OS X Lion and iTunes not launching

I installed OS X Lion and loved the new features. The second day I wanted to launch iTunes and got an error. I had to remove OS X Lion and re-install Snow Leopard so I can get iTunes to run.

iTunes runs just fine on Lion.
Since you've reinstalled Snow Leopard we can't help you diagnose your issue.

  • I can open itunes but then it does not respond

I can open itunes and it opens right up.  Then i get the blue loading circle for like 5 minutes then after it just freezes.  It doesent respond to being clicked on in the taskbar or clicking a song.  It doesent crash its just not responsive? I have windows 7.  Also i signed in on another account and it worked just fine just had no music on it.  I tried reinstalling it already and nothing happened or changed.

Try starting iTunes in safe mode by holding down CTRL+SHIFT immediately after clicking the icon to launch iTunes and continuing to hold until this message pops up:
Click continue, then close iTunes and reopen. With luck iTunes now opens normally every time.

  • ITunes auto launches every 3-5 minutes (on PC)

iTunes auto launches every 3-5 minutes on my PC.  I have an iPad and iPhone but both are over a year old and it's just started doing this.  I haven't upgraded recently, I have no CD in the drive, I don't have gaming software, I haven't downloaded anything from iTunes Store (ever), and I haven't loaded any new software recently.  I also do not have iTunes selected as my default player (I prefer Windows Media Player on my PC) and I've changed every setting on my computer that I can think of.  This is driving me nuts.

    Hi rogelnaval!
I've found an article that may help you troubleshoot the power issues you are seeing with your iPad. The article is for iPhone troubleshooting, but will apply for your iPad, and can be found here:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Specifically, the section you will want to look for is the second category on the page, and it is labelled "Power/Battery." Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • How do I keep itunes from launching when I plug in my headphones

I have a set of Bose headphones with an inline mic/remote and there are times that I plug it into my Air Itunes with keep trying to launch and play music. I can close itunes and it will relaucnh. The only way to stop it is to disconnect the headphoes. I use these headphonoes on my ipad and iphone with no issue.
Any advice on how to stop this?
    Thank you,
    Justin

Normally, iTunes would only launch if you push the start/stop button of the remote.
Means, that if iTunes launches (and keeps re-launching) as soon as you connect the headphone, there's something wrong with the headphone jack in your Mac.
It can be as simple as requiring cleaning:
With the Mac shut down, try to blow the headphone jack out, e.g. with compressed air - you can get that in cans.
Do not use liquids! The one thing you may c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y do is using a cotton bud (Q-tip) and as little as possible isopropyl alcohol on it to clean it from sticky stuff. Repeat a few times, let it dry well before turning the Mac back on.

  • Having iTunes automatically launch and play a radio station

    Hi,
Is there a way to have iTunes automatically launch and start playing a radio station under Windows XP?
I am running a small store and iTunes plays internet radio over airport express speakders. I would like to simplify the life of the employees by simply telling them (in case of crash or reboot) to simply double-click an itunes shortcut to have it open and play.
I noticed you can create an Apple script for Mac platforms, I hope there is an equivalent for Windows XP.
    Cheers,
    Lanceloz

iTunes is a little bit strange when it comes to streams, but you can just open the URL (from the info for your stream):
tell application "iTunes" to open location "http://radio2.digitalgunfire.com:8000"
... and since you posted in the Automator forum, you can make a workflow that searches for the name of your stream and starts iTunes playing, for example:
    1) Find Songs in iTunes (whose Name Contains digitalgunfire)
    2) Start iTunes Playing

    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
