What radio mode do you have the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) configured for? (ref: AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless > Radio Mode = ?)

  • TS4597 AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3 - It did the above steps and cannot get airport utility to allow access to the Airport extreme in order to reconfigure please help

I tried following the article's instructions by going into System Preferences / Network and changing the configure ipv6 tab to Link local only and I STILL am getting the same error. Can someone please advise how to get this ariport extreme back online and configured

I'm in a frustrating predicament with this error, so if folks have any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated...
A few days ago my internet stopped working as best i know out of the blue (3rd gen Airport Extreme with a couple iPhones, iPad, Apple TV's, Mac's (one with Mavericks) on it).  In trying to fix it, I powered down everything and reset the router.  When the router is initializing (seen through the Airport utility), the internet starts working again on the Mac in which I'm running the Airport utility. (a browser in background loads a previously unloadable webpage).  I'm then left with a screen where the Airport utility is waiting for me to enter set-up info:
If I leave the Airport Utility in this state and don't hit next, my internet works fine on my Mac.  If I set-up this info, however, my internet no longer works (in Airport Utility the Internet globe has a orange circle saying internet disconnected) and I get a screen saying "An unexpected error occured.  Try again."  I've tried toggling a number of router settings, restarting the router, but nothing seems to fix it.
I've taken the router to Apple, where they were able to create a network fine with the router.  I also bought a new AE router, and tried an old AE express router, but all attempts get the same error.  I've also tried using the iOS Airport utility, but that doesn't seem to help.  I've tried the older version (5.6) of Airport Utility run on a non-Mavericks Mac, but that didn't help.
I had a ISP technician come out, but they basically said the plug (we don't have a modem, but just a ethernet plug in our apartment)  in which you're getting the internet from us is working, and it's your router.  They're diagnostics said the router is 'throwing off a bunch of errors.'  That being said, they've confirmed the setting on the AE are okay (as far as they know...).
Any thoughts here?  I'm not especially network-proficient, but searching around has pointed me to potential issues with mavericks, IPv6, and the latest version of the Airport Utility.
    I'm desperate - please help!
    Much thanks in advance.

  • My PC can connect to the airport extreme but with encryption it cannot connect to the internet my iMac has no issues, any help.

My PC can connect to the new airport extreme I just purchased but with encryption it cannot connect to the internet my iMac has no issues.  If I open the airport exteme up and provide no security everything is fine which leads me to believe it is something with the encryption between the two devices.  Not sure what step I'm missing here this shouldn't be this difficult.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am asking if the DNS IP addresses, not the IP addresses assigned by the DHCP service, are the same. DNS is like the Internet's version of the Yellow Pages. Your ISP typically will provide them to you or you can elect to use those provided by another source, like OpenDNS.
DNS is the service that translates a website's URL to its actual IP address so that you can access it. I am just trying to rule out that the PC is not configured properly with the correct DNS IP information.
The other thing to check is if the PC is configured to use a Proxy service. By default, it would not be.
Finally, what is the make & model of the PC. More importantly, if the PC is using either a PCI or USB wireless adapter, what is its make & model?

  • Fully Connected to AirPort Extreme, But With No Internet (PLEASE HELP!)

I have spent my Labor Day trying to figure out what is wrong with my wireless connection to no avail. I am entirely frustrated and would appreciate any helpful advice that can be offered.
    Here's the deal:
Yesterday afternoon, the two computers on my wireless network (an iMac PowerPC G4 and a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop) lost connection to the Internet. We had lost power earlier in the day, but didn't have any issues immediately after it was restored. A few hours later, it just stopped.
Today, I started troubleshooting to figure out how to fix it. The Dell had no trouble finding the network and connecting, but it was only connecting "locally." Same with mine. We've also got a Nintendo Wii connected wirelessly, but it was also not working. Lastly, we have an HP Photosmart C4280 printer plugged into the AirPort's USB. Despite not being able to get on the Internet or restore Wi-Fi to the Wii, we are still able to print without issue (from both computers).
At one point, I got Internet back on my iMac, but I kept messing around with the network settings in the hopes of getting everything back to normal and lost it again. I've been mainly playing around three different settings: the AirPort Admin Utility (changing Channels in the AirPort tab, checking boxes in the Network tab, etc.), the AirPort Setup Assistant (messing around with the Wireless Security), and the Network Control Panel (clicking things I don't understand in the TCP/IP tab, etc.).
At first, I thought the issue was with my security settings, so I tried setting up the AirPort without a password, and still could not connect with the iMac, Dell, or Wii. In a last-ditch effort, I went out and bought a Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router, which restored the Internet to the iMac, Dell, and Wii. Problem is, I love the AirPort (and do not want to sacrifice wirelessly printing through its USB).
I am completely frustrated! If anyone has any suggestions whatsoever, please help me out. It would be greatly appreciated!!
    Have a great night!
    TK

Ok, I'm going to assume that you are using the newer AirPort Utility and not the older AirPort Admin Utility that originally came on the CD with your AEBS.
If this is correct, the following would be the basic settings:
Either connect to the AEBS's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Utility in Manual Setup, check these settings:
    AirPort - Base Station tab
o Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o Base Station Password: <enter the desired administrator's password, the default is "public">
    o Verify Password: <re-enter the desired password>
    o Set time automatically: (optional)
o Allow configuration over Ethernet WAN port: (optional)
AirPort - Base Station - Base Station Options
    o Contact: (optional)
    o Location: (optional)
    AirPort - Wireless tab
o Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
o AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    o Radio Mode: 802.11b/g compatible
    o Channel: Automatic
    o Wireless Security: None
AirPort - Wireless - Wireless Options
    o Multicast Rate: 2 Mbps
    o Transmit Power: 100%
o Create a closed network (unchecked)
o Use Interference Robustness: Not enabled
    Internet - Internet Connection tab
    o Connect Using: Ethernet
    o Configure: Using DHCP
    o DNS Server(s): (optional)
    o Domain Name: (optional)
    o DHCP Client ID: (optional)
o Ethernet WAN Port: Automatic (Default)
o Connection Sharing: Share a public IP address
    Internet - DHCP tab
o DHCP Range: <leave default or enter desired range>
o DHCP Beginning Address: <leave default or enter desired beginning address>
o DHCP Ending Address: <leave default or enter desired ending address>
o DHCP Lease: <leave default or enter desired lease duration>
    o DHCP Message: (optional)
    o LDAP Server: (optional)
    Internet - NAT tab
o Enable default host at: (unchecked)
o Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol: (unchecked)
Once you verified that you can get Internet access for all of your computers, you should secure your wireless network. To do so, I suggest that you make these changes:
    AirPort - Wireless tab
o Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal or WPA2 Personal
o Wireless Password: <enter desired wireless encryption password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter desired wireless encryption password>

  • Can I use the airport extreme with my Mac OS X?

Can I use the Airport Extreme with a Mac OS X  10.5?

Yes. In addition to administer the latest version of the AirPorts, you would need AirPort Utility 5.5.3, which requires OS X 10.5.7 or later.

i have an imac g4 purchased Dec 2003 runnung OS 10.5.8.  It runs fine with airport off, but when I turn airport on it freezes with the black page,  "restart by holding power key . . ."  I swapped the airport extreme card with the one in my ibook G4 (purchased same date and running same OS).  No change in operation.
I am running wifi from verizon.  Recently changed from mifi2200 to jetpak 4620 in a 3G location.  Ibook running fine, desktop freezes.  If I can boot desktop in safe mode and get airport turned off in time. then I can reboot regularly and imac runs flawlessly with no wireless.Have run disk utilities and TechTool Pro rebuild etc, but nothing has worked.  How do I fine the culprit?

the power logix thing was really sad. apple changed so much after 10.4.8 that there wasn't a viable way to patch the software.
That statement is precisely why I don't believe in blindly updating the OS, especially in a non-standard machine.
We can't expect third parties to support us forever, and it is shameful to break something that works fine, except that we updated the OS....
I think that any upgrade or modification to a machine or the OS greatly increases the risk of trouble or incompatibility with current configuration and "new" system files.
After all, the component or software could only be tested as far as the current OS version when the component or software was released.
Beyond that, we are all "beta testing".
Following a beta tester protocol, and applying updates to a cloned system drive first, is a prudent way to approach updates, and not only for older, heavily modified machines.
After 10.4.8 and moreso with Leopard, the focus is primarily on Intel architecture, not PPC architecture.
Like it or not, we are all updating to the abyss of the extinction of our machines, unless we can be satisfied with the last stable version of OS that works well with our hardware and software.
I wish they would include the latest pkgs at least with software update.
Yes, having individual packages, rather than lump "OS X 10.x.x" updates would be nice.
This way, one could update as one sees fit. That is to say, for example, fix the Quicktime, but leave my Network alone, etc., etc.
In all fairness, Apple does provide for some breakdown of updates, but I believe there is much room for improvement, especially, as you point out, with regard to the core services portion of the OS.
Until then, I'll leave Software Update disabled.......

  • Extending Airport Extreme network with Airport Express using WDS

I have been having some trouble using WDS between an Airport Extreme and Express, with the Extreme acting as the internet router in the network.
Both devices have been updated with the lastest firmware.
I am using Airport Utility 5.5.1
    *Airport Extreme Configuration*
    *Wireless Tab*
Wireless Mode: Participate in a WDS network
Allow Network to be extended: Checked
    Radio Mode: Auto
    Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
Channel Selection: Manual (Same as my Express)
    *WDS Tab*
    WDS Mode: WDS Main
    Allow Wireless Clients: Checked
WDS Remotes: (MAC of my Airport Express)
    *Airport Express Configuration*
    *Wireless Tab*
Wireless Mode: Participate in a WDS network
    Channel: (Same as my Extreme)
    Network Name: (my network name)
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
Allow this network to be extended: unchecked
    Radio Mode: 802.11n (802.11 b/g compatible)
    *WDS Tab*
    WDS Mode: WDS Remote
    Allow Wireless Clients: checked
WDS Main: MAC of my Airport Extreme
I think that covers the pertinent stuff. If there's anything else that might be useful, please just say so.
So, the Extreme is green-lit, working fine. Wireless clients can connect to it just fine. On the Wireless Clients page the MAC of my Express is showing up, with a type of WDS listed. It does not, however, show up under the DHCP clients section.
The Express is yellow-lit. Sometimes after a setting change it goes green for a minute or so, then back to yellow, reporting a WDS Error ("the AirPort Wireless device is set up as part of a WDS network, but no other AirPort wireless devices were found").
The Airport Express is ending up with an ip address of 169.254.49.198 (an automatic private). It seems it's not getting an ip from the Extreme's DHCP.
Do I have some sort of authentication issue here? Honestly I'm totally baffled.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Would the routers' logs be of any help?
    Thanks

Wait, just did a bit more reading. Am I correct in assuming now that the "Extend a network" option will function as a wireless repeater, with no ethernet connection to the main router required
Yes. This will provide much better wireless performance...and...its much easier to configure.
On your AirPort Extreme, open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Update to save settings
On the AirPort Express, open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network (hold down the option key when you click on the selection box if you do not see this setting)
Wireless Network Name = Click on the selection box and name of your AirPort Extreme network should appear
Check mark next to Allow wireless clients
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as the AirPort Extreme network
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Extreme network
    Confirm Password
    Update to save changes
A good starting location for the Express is a point that is about 1/2 to 2/3 the distance from your AirPort Extreme to the area that needs more coverage.
The ethernet port on the Express is also enabled, so you can connect an ethernet device if needed. Post back to let us know how things are working.

  • HT1145 The airport extreme used with my iMac is not seeing my other devices...anybody, please?

    Hi DaileyT,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:
When do Apple wireless devices appear in AirPort Utility?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3624
    Troubleshooting missing devices
If your Apple wireless device doesn't show up in the wireless device list, try the following:
Check to see that the device is turned on.
Check that the device is connected to the network via Ethernet or in wireless range of your computer.
Make sure the device has had adequate time to start up and become discoverable. In the case of Apple wireless devices that are not connected via Ethernet, AirPort Utility scans for new devices once every 15 seconds. From the time a device becomes discoverable (typically around one minute), it could take up to another 15 seconds before the device is displayed in the list.
If you have just configured a new Apple Wireless device, upgraded the firmware, selected "Restore Default Settings..." or have hard reset and configured an Apple wireless device and it does not show up in AirPort Utility after restarting, you may have an incorrect setting. You may want to hard reset the unit and set it up again.
If you are connected to a specific wireless network, all Apple wireless devices which make up that network will appear. However, if you "Restore Default Settings..." from AirPort Utility, or hard reset a device that is out of physical wireless range of the computer, you will need to move the device closer the computer to configure it again.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5.  It has the latest software downloaded too.  Keeps saying unable to join network after I type in the password.  All my other devices are able to join but just not the iphone.  I've called Verizon and my internet provider and they have been unable to help.  I had no problems with my iphone 4 with this very same issue.  Please help or I'll be forced to return this phone.  I have 13 days left.

Try power-cycling your router (unplug for 15 seconds, then plug back in), then on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings, and try joining your network again.  Note: resetting network settings will erase passwords for previously joined networks on your phone.

You will have to configure that with your router. Type your router's IP address in the search/domain bar and allow port forwarding.
What is requiring you to have an open NAT? That issue is usually for gaming consoles, etc.

    Hi,
You need the administrator permission to enable the built-in administrator account.
For secure concern, there is no other way to do this.
