Can't keep a document open

I open a document in Reader, I scroll a few pages, the documents freezes, the top of the screen says "not responding" and then the document closes. I can't get through any document. Any suggestions?

What is your Reader X version? If less than 10.1.13, try updating to this latest version.
One more question: are you behind a corporate firewall? If so, make sure it lets you access cloud.acrobat.com

How can I keep iTunes from opening when I insert a CD?

I have gone through the preferences again and again, and I can't find a way to keep iTunes from opening whenever I insert a CD. iTunes is not my preferred player/encoder, and I don't want it to open unless I tell it to.
Case in point, I'm converting many CDs to mp3, using an application that gives me the filename format I want (iTunes isn't that flexible enough to do that). It is annoying for iTunes to keep butting in, every time I insert a CD!

When you first insert a CD your Mac comes up with a box saying
"You have inserted a CD" (duuh, Apple...)
Then you choose from a pop-up menu that offers "Open in Finder", "Open in iTunes", etc
At some point you (or someone) has chosen "Open in iTunes" then checked the little box that says "Make this the default from now on".
If you go into System Prefs (as already mentioned) you have a choice to reset what you want to do with a blank CD.

Can i keep 1 page open in safari and not have any one close it

Ok so i need to keep a page open in safari for a work thing but it needs to stay open all the time and cannot be closed.
i have a macbook air and i need to ask if there is any program i can use to do that?

It sounds as if you need to keep other people from making changes to your MacBook Air when you are away from it. One way to do this would be to allow the computer to go to sleep after a short period of inactivity, and to require a password to wake it. See this article for how to do this -

How Can I Keep Embedded Documents in a PDF Conversion of a Word Document?

I am running XP and using Word 2010. I have a document that contains embedded Word documents. I can convert the document to PDF but I loose the embedded documents when I do. Is there a way to keep them available in the PDF version? I can "attach" them, but don't know how to make those attachments obvious to a reader.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Something embedded in a Word file isn't going to migrate to PDF with the Word file's "page content".
If the embedded files are support use Acrobat to convert them to PDF.
Combine the PDFs.
Configure this PDF to open with the Bookmarks showing.
(Document Properties > Initial View)
Edit / add Bookmarks as desired.

I purchased MS Office for Mac and stupidly deleted Pages from my Macbook. I don't have the Mac OS installation disk, and was wondering if there is a utility to open a Pages document?

Basically, none. You can either unzip it or reveal its package contents and then pick out pieces of the document, but this won't preserve formatting.

Can ADF keep multiple pages open at the same time?

My company is currently developing an application to upgrade a client's FORMS system to one based on ADF. One of our client's biggest complaints with the new technology is that he can't work on many tasks at the same time, because our application can't work with "tabs" or "different windows", like Forms can with the "open form ()" function.
Currently, we use a page called "main.jspx" with the main menu and a region under it, where we load all the "jsff" pages, which do all the different tasks in their systems (like autorizeBuyOrder.jsff, createNewOrder.jsff, etc...).
Right now, I can only have one "jsff" page loaded on the region at once, and I wanted to make my application able to load and keep track of as many as the user wants. I was thinking on something like a tabs system, or multiple windows system. Does ADF provide any elegant way to do this? Any material you can recommend me?

How can I keep iPhoto from opening?

I'm currently using iPhoto v5.0.4 and Panther 10.3.9, and am fairly new to both. My question is how can I get iPhoto to stop automatically opening and loading my photos into it when I insert my memory stick into the card reader attached to my Mac mini via USB? I want to just load the photos onto my HD, and not into iPhoto.
I've looked at the iPhoto preferences and can't find anything to turn off the automatic opening up of the application.
If I can't stop if from doing that, how can I copy the photos in iPhoto to a separate file on the HD?

Lxterminal --command: How can I keep the window open? [SOLVED]

I am trying to create an application launcher that will let me connect to my vpn account at start up instead of having to manually type the openvpn command each time my machine boots. I need to use sudo, but lxterminal disappears the instant it opens. I tried adding the read command as suggested here:http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=192427, but it just doesn't work.
Any suggestions? Or alternatively, is there a way for me to start the vpn connection automatically at startup, preferably without even having to enter my password?

I tried adding it to /etc/rc.local, and according to the boot up messages it works, but the boot process just stops after OpenVPN opens the tunnel. OpenVPN doesn't terminate and I think that the startup process keeps waiting for bash to exit, but bash doesn't as it keeps waiting for the OpenVPN output. In other words, my machine stops booting.
Here's what I have in rc.local:

# /etc/rc.local: Local multi-user startup script.
cd /home/homefolder/.vpnkey
openvpn --config vpn.ovpn

Can I keep a connection open between transient application block calls?

Hi all;
I am going to make a bunch of discrete updates to my Sql Azure database. If the first 5 succeed, and then on #6 it fails, and I'm doing all this in a transient application block, then:
I don't want to do transactions because it's fine if it fails after N updates and transactions have overhead - correct?
If the IDbCommand.Execute() returned successfully, I can then consider that update complete & successful - correct?
Is there any downside to running more updates, even if it's tens of thousands, all in one transient application block, as long as I'm calling the next one as soon as the previous one completes - correct?
This will all probably be in a web worker where it reads from a queue and then makes the update to the DB. Is there any downside to putting all this code inside a transient application block and it just runs there until a call fails?
What I'm looking at doing here is a bit different from the examples which always show a small short example. We're going to have a giant volume of updates we need to do, handling them as they come in. Setting up a transient application block, creating
& opening a connection, to then do one update, would be a ton of overhead - I think.
How do people best handle this situation?

As a way to make a certain website more manageable to non-coders, I split up an accordion into many content holders. However, for the accordion to work properly, a <div> tag has to stay open in each content holder. As you'd expect, Catalyst automatically closes all open tags, meaning my accordion breaks. Is there any way to keep this from happening?

If I have a pinned homepage; How can I keep Firefox from opening a second tab. None of the answers on this site help at all

I have a local html file on my system that I use as a homepage in Firefox. This homepage has a list of links that I regularly use. I have this file homepage pinned in Firefox. Every time I open Firefox not only do I get my pinned homepage, I get another tab with the firefox homepage opened and focused on.
All I want to load when I open Firefox is my chosen homepage. That is it. How do I stop this second tab from opening?
None of the older questions and answers on this site seem to work. Why is this so hard. It works in Google Chrome out of the box but I'm migrating away from Chrome because Google decided to break my extensions without my permission by not allowing third party extensions to be loaded, only ones listed in their store.

I do not see why it should not work for you. I have just tried doing that and it works for me.
First of all double check what is shown on your list of home pages. Firefox may be set to open more than one home page,each one as a separate tab. The listing separates the tabs with a pipe symbol | (Often the key above the Ctrl key)

Another possibility is that you have set Firefox to restart with the tabs from the previous setting.

In UCM, can I keep the documents invisible before admin approves it

I have an idea.
User A uploaded a document to UCM, but I don't want the document shows on UCM until administrator approves it.
Is there anything I could do to make it happen?

Can't keep an app open long enough before it closes

Help me understand why this is happening. I don't have long before this quits again. Please help.

For Safari try clearing its cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
Then close all apps completely and see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
