I don't want to delete everything off this I touch.  I've got a new Nano, and I want to transfer the old songs from the old I touch.

    Sync by using the manual method included here;

  • Can't move anything to trash!

    Hi
Don't know if anyone has come across this before but I can't send anything to the trash. If I try to delete anything I get the message "Are you sure you want to delete ... This item will be deleted immediately. You can’t undo this action."
So I either have to leave it there or permanently delete it. The system has stopped me being able to put anything in the trash can.
It's the same with different apps, not just one. And I haven't changed anything recently. No idea why this has started. Help!
    John

Most likely it's a permissions screw-up or something similar on your trash folder. Fortunately, there's an easy fix... if you're using an admin account, just go to the Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/) and paste in the following command:
    sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash
*_Do not_* try to re-type that, as one single minor typo can really hose you badly. For example, I recently talked to someone who placed a space after the '~' and therefore ended up destroying their entire user folder.
When you paste that in and hit return, you'll be asked for your account password. Type it (nothing shows up on screen when you do) and hit return again. Then log out and log back in. Everything should be back to normal.
If you're not using an admin account, let us know... there will be a more complex sequence of steps required in that case.

  • I can't put anything into trash no permission

I turned on my old mini for the first time in over a year and can't move anything into the trash. First finder asks for a password which I give then trash won't let me. Says "cannot complete because you don't have permission to access some of the items". I went to trash>file>get info and nothing was in the read/write pull down so I pulled down my name which is an administrator, clicked it and got "could not complete an unexpected error occurred. Error message 136". Can anyone explain what the heck is going on?
I also can't figure out how to get my new password into keychain login and save it
    thanks

Hi, it sounds like you may have many problems, & it may take awile to work through them, but the new Forum SW doesn't make it easy.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
On that error... Error message 136, could it have been -36?
Well, in pure Apple File System talk... -36      ioErr      I/O error (bummers)
Not very helpful, but generally means a Drive quit being Readable or Writable since starting the operation, which is not a good sign... do you have a current Backup?

  • I can't put anything in Trash, error code -36

Everytime I try to move anything into Trash this message appears:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “xyz” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)
I cannot move anything to trash or delete anything, doesn't matter if its a word document, .jpg image or a pdf preview nothing will go. I tried to look up error code -36 but it said something about a Windows server and to check the Console screen for a certain message but theres no record of the error on there.
    Please help!

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have a wrong owner. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — all of the next line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    find . $TMPDIR.. -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot.
If any personal information appears in the output, edit before posting, but don’t remove the context.

  • HT5772 How do I delete podcast episodes that I don't want to keep without having them stay in my List view in iTunes and clog it up?  I have some episodes that I've listened to that I want to keep, but others I want to delete.

Using iTunes on my MacBookPro, I find that when I want to delete selected podcast eisodes, they still stay in my List view with the cloud symbol next to them. I don't want them in my List view. I want them gone. I don't want to download them ever again. I do keep some episodes so I don't want to do the draconian thing and delete all podcast episodes once I've heard them. The other problem I have with trying to delete episodes is that some podcasts then have the same episodes pop back up as though I haven't listened to them. I've deleted a bunch of Science Friday episodes only to have them download again ready to hear. Not only that, but some episodes will finish playing or stop playing in the middle of an episode and a random podcast will start playing. Think! does that. GAH!!
Does anyone know a workaround? The same nonsense happens in any iTunes view I try.

You can delete photos from individual albums but not from the camera roll.  If you try to delete a photo from camera roll it will be deleted from all other albums ("locations") that contain the photo.  This is because the actual photo is in the camera roll (the albums only contain links to the photo in camera roll, not the actual photo).

  • Can't find a loop i want to delete

I created a loop that i now want to delete. The loop shows up in GB but i can't find it in the loops folder or anywhere on the HD in order to trash it. Shouldn't all created loops appear in the GB loops folder?

it's not stored there, it's in a similar location within your home directory (note: deleting it that way is not a good idea)

  • I recently was given someone elses ipod touch.  There are some songs on there I want to keep and many I want to delete.  Is there a way to upload the songs to my mac  so I can add them to a play list I have and delete the one's I don't want?

I recently was given someone else's ipod touch.  It has some songs I would like to keep, but most I would like to delete without losing the one's I like.  Is there anyway to either upload songs to itunes in my mac or sync a playlist with the ipod without erasing all the music currently on the ipod.  Also, is there a way to delete specific tunes on the ipod?
    Thanks.

There is no legal way to do this-  You would need to be using the same AppleID (account)
As far as deleting the songs, in a situation like this, you should restore the iPod which will delete the songs as well as allow you to sync your own music.
For instructions on how to delete/add songs  it's best to check the manual:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipod
As far as restoring, you didn't mention what model you are using but just choose your model from here (they have step by step instructions):

  • I cannot get rid of the message re iCloud backup. The I just get reminders for today but still can't open anything. I want to check settings etc but can't

I am still having a problem with iCloud message. can't get rid of message from screen. message just in with reminders and now cant edit it. the screen will not respond to remove 1st message.

    Try this now.

  • I have an iPod touch and it's connected to my email account. Recently it has been frozen meaning I can't do anything on it (read emails, delete emails). How do I fix this problem?

Does anyone know how to fix my problem so I can do stuff with my email?
    Thank you so much

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Archive and reinstall - can't find previous system and want to delete

    Hey everyone,
I just did an archive and reinstall with OS 10.5 and now am running out of disk space. I've been trying to find the "previous system" folder but can't locate it with finder. Any ideas?
Is it in the system folder? What can I delete without killing my computer?
    Noob here, thanks a bunch!

    Current system is OS 10.5
previous was the latest update - 10.5.6?
I have about 10 GB less space now that I need to recover!
    I'm running this: MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz, 2GB 15", 160GB
    Thanks.

  • ... When there I can't find the programs I want to delete. The video location indicates no data.  How do I retrieve the shows to delete

When I try to download a newly purchased tv show or movie, I a told to go to Settings and make room in  memory usage.  There nothing in video to delete.  No data is listed. How do I reveal it?  Is this another reason to hate ios7?

Remove them the same way they were put on the device, via iTunes on the computer.
    Connect the device.
Select the Device from the sidebar on the left or the drop down device list.
    Select the Photos tab.
Select the folder desired to sync.

  • Cannot move files to trash; they are deleted immediately!

I can no longer move files to trash and then empty the trash. If I select "move to trash" or drag a file to the trash, I am notified that the file will be deleted immediatley.
How can I change it so that the files remain in the trash until I choose to empty it.
Also, I have gone to "get info" for the trash, and when I try to give myself permission to read & write, I am prompted to give my password, which I do, but then it says "operation could not be completed ... unexptected error, code 136.
    Any ideas.
    Please help.

That message is typical behavior when deleting files from a server, but I suspect your problem isn't going to be answered with that. What do you mean when you say "I try to give myself permission to read & write" for the Trash? Your Trash can is normally an invisible folder called ".Trashes". And by default it should be read and write.

  • How can I keep tracks playing when I'm browsing?

There must be an obvious answer to this question, but I don't know what it is.
If I'm playing an album, but then start to browse somewhere else (as one would do if listening to a CD), the music will stop after the track has finished, and not go on to the next track. (because the tracks are no longer in the browser window)
How can I keep playing what I want, in the order that I want, while I am browsing other music?
    Thanks

I find this to be a problem as well, especially since I know I was able to work with iTunes this way before I installed iTunes 7.3?
I'm reading some other posts which suggest that being able to play tracks from an library subset (genre, album, artist) AND browse other playlists at the same time was never a feature of iTunes.
Since I know I'm not imagining that I used to use iTunes quite happily, I'm wondering is there an option in 7.3 that I'm not paying attention to?
It seems crazy not to be able to do this.

  • Items dragged to Trash are deleted immediately

I don't know why, but since a couple of days, any file I drag to the Trash (or 'right-click' and choose move to trash), now gets deleted immediately.
It used to sit in the Trash until I decided to empty.
I guess there's a settings somewhere, to get it back to normal, but I can't find it
    Any help?

If you don't have permission to delete your own .Trash folder, that's likely your problem. It should not take admin privileges to do this.
Here's another way to do it that will nuke the folder down to bedrock... let's say your regular user account is "cat" and your admin account is "supercat". Log in to "supercat", go to the Terminal and type in this command:
    sudo rm -rf /Users/cat/.Trash
You'll be prompted for your password... type in the "supercat" account password and press return. This will run the command as root, which means that, as far as the computer is concerned, it's God telling it to delete the folder!
Of course, because of the power of this command, you should be very cautious with it. The "rm" command combined with "sudo" and "-rf" will cheerfully delete anything you point it at - including your entire hard drive - with no undo possible.
