Can't keep desktop picture

I have loaded a new background picture from iPhoto for a background. Each time I reboot the picture is not there and is
replaced by a galaxy picture. How do I reset things?

Hi Richard,
Did you change it in System Preferences>Desktop & Screensaver>Desktop, & that setting isn't sticking between reboots?

    Hello, sounds like maybe this...
OS X: System Preferences stops responding after viewing Desktop & Screen Saver pane
    Products Affected
OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion, iPhoto
    Symptoms
System Preferences may stop responding if you select an iPhoto Event that is no longer available in iPhoto as the source for your desktop picture.
    Resolution
        1.    Quit System Preferences if it's running.

If System Preferences is running but not responding, choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, or right-click its icon on the Dock and choose "Force Quit".
        2.    Open iPhoto.
        3.    Select Events in the Source list (on the left side of the iPhoto window).
        4.    Double-click on any of the events shown. Verify that the name or date of this event is now shown under RECENT in the Source list.
        5.    Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences.
        6.    Click Desktop & Screen Saver, click on Desktop, and verify that you can now select a new desktop picture.

  • Can't set Desktop picture in Yosemite

Since I started using the Yosemite OS, I cant save a particular photo as Desktop Picture. It always reverts back to a mountion scene that is the OS default, I guess.
    Any suggestions?

Never mind, I fixed the problem. I was reseting the Help Viewer and had to restart my computer. I was able to change the desktop pic after that.

  • Can't change desktop picture in System Preferences or iPhoto

For the last two days, I've been unable to change my desktop picture in System Preferences or iPhoto. When I select a picture (Apple's or one of my own) in the Desktop pane of System Preferences, it won't put the picture on my desktop. I tried the same thing in iPhoto with the same results. I installed Google Earth a few days ago; I thought it might be causing the problem so I erased it from my computer. Could it have left anything on my computer that would cause this problem? (sorry if the answer to this is obvious; I'm a newbie). I also just installed the latest version of Tiger; could this be the cause? Has anybody else had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

  • How can I move desktop pictures from OS 10.6.7 to OS 10.10.2?

Is there a way to move desktop pictures between different Mac systems?
OS 10.6.7 had two nice pictures of stones in a riverbed that I wish I had somehow saved when I upgraded to OS 10.10.2.
I still have the installation disk for the earlier system and could install it on a thumb drive, but I don’t have a clue about moving the pictures from there to Yosemite.

Open the /Library/Desktop Pictures/ folder and drag them over.

    Hi everyone

  • How can you disable "set desktop picture" from the finder contextual menu

I teach high school.  And MUST find a way to keep my students from changing their desktops.
First I basically got rid of Firefox when it had that feature in the Tiger days.
Then for Leopard I had to create dummy "locked" Safari Desktop Picture files for all my user accounts so the kids couldn't use Safari to set their desktop pictures.
NOW I discover (maybe this was here before) Snow Leopard lets you change the desktop right from the Finder itself!  Just right click on any image file and the contextual menu  will give them the option to "set desktop picture".
Come on Apple, every educator I know has complained about what a distraction and constant battle images are for students who use computers.  While not all students are inappropriate, quite a few are...meaning no one can be allowed the privilege.  Why is this such a huge battle to try and lock down?  Please allow Parental Controls or Server managed preferences to keep our students from being able to change their desktop pictures, ever, at all, from anywhere or any program.
Does anyone know if this is even possible?

The only way (I have found) to shut down using Safari's "Use Image as a Desktop Picture" feature is to create a bunch of blank documents that the users have no permission to change (i.e. set permission to only allow, say YOU to read it and no access to write to it for anyone)
Create a number of these blank documents and rename them
    Safari Desktop Picture.jpg
    Safari Desktop Picture.tiff
    Safari Desktop Picture.gif
    Safari Desktop Picture.jpeg
    Safari Desktop Picture.png
(you get the point....come up with as many .3 extensions of photo files that you can think of)
Put these locked and unchangeable files into the following directory of each of your student accounts
    Macintosh HD/Users/~User Name/Library/Safari/
What this does is create a bunch of dummy files that will "block" Safari (or the system or user) from trying to replace them.  Even though the right click comman will still be there, Safari will not be able to put the picture in the correct part of the system for it to be used as a Desktop Picture.

  • My iPod 5th gen. doesn't have a back camera. Can I trade it in for one that does have a back camera? If I can, can I keep all my pictures and have them switched over to the other one?

If you purchased it from Apple within the last 14 days then you can return it for a full refund. otherwise no. If you purchased it elsewhere you have to check with them.

Having arranged some scanned pictures in an album in I-Photo how can I keep them in the order I have chosen when I move the album. They all have the scan date and not the taken date and move to new positions if I move them from one album to another.
Is there any way to re-number them in the order I have chosen so that they can then be sorted by number? The scans are all from pre-digital images that I wish to move to a photobook and I don't want to have to organise them twice!
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I was a bit short, Chris, sorry. It is limited, what can be posted, when typing on an iPad.
Now I am back on my Mac. I meant the following:  Batch Change the date for a large range of photos, that should have a date stepped in increments.
Select all Photos at once and use the command "Photos > Batch Change".
Then set the date for the first photo and select an increment, e.g. one minute.
Now all photos will get a new date assigned, incremented by one minute, in the sequence you have selected. So you will be able to sort them by date.  This way it will be unnecessary to change the titles or filenames.

    Oh!
First thing I think would be to do a search for the folder in case it's somehow got moved.
Failing that, you can retrieve the folder from your original installer disc using Pacifist.
Insert the disc (don't boot from it) and open the installer package with Pacifist. Navigate to the Desktop Pictures folder (might be a bit more fiddly to find in the package structure). When you find it, select the folder, right-click (or ctrl-click) and select 'install in default location' from the context menu.
Exit Pacifist and eject the disc.
    Best of luck!

  • Keep losing my desktop picture on macbook

I have my macbook pro linked to a samsung syncmaster SA550. i keep losing my desktop picture, when i leave the machine and return it from sleep mode, I am left with a grey screen, sometimes with no icons?

Probably the desktop picture is no longer on the macbook but on the syncmaster. Make sure that the desktop picture (itself, and not an alias) is on your macbook (e.g. the pictures folder) and set it again in the SystemPreferences/Desktop settings.

  • Why can't I right-click and set desktop picture?

    Greetings.
I am having a lot of trouble changing my desktop picture. From what I understand, you right-click the image and click on 'set as desktop picture'. I click it and nothing changes. I have tried to download the image and set it manually through System Preferences but when I go into Desktop & Screen Saver but there are no other folders other than the 'Apple' one that have the wallpapers that come with the computer.
If it's relevant at all, my macbook pro is a 10.6.8 version.

You should be able to do it three ways, some of which you already know:
Right-click image, choose "Set Desktop Picture"
Right-click desktop, choose "Change Desktop Background"
Go into System Preferences, click "Desktop and Screen Saver"
Note when you are in System Preferences, the current desktop is shown in an indented "well." That always indicates that it is a drop target. You don't need to be able to see in the list the pictures or folder you want. Just drag it from the desktop, or iPhoto, or whatever app you're looking at your photo in, and drop it in that well, and it will be set.

If you did want to do it the old-fashioned way and drill through folders and files, you can click the plus symbol [ + ] below the list there and then you can add any folder to the list. In case you have a folder full of desktop backgrounds, for instance.
(I might be wrong about some of this since I am using 10.8)
