Can't keep internet and Lan connected at same time

For those of you who have helped before I apologize for the repetition but I'm it for IT person at my husband's office. Guy we used has gone to NYC. Network is ethernet connected-6 iMac G5's running 10.4 served by G3 running OS9. Also has a 2-3 week old 16 port Linksys switch-not router-which replaced our old Asante hub-needed to boost signal from the server over distance. The original network used manually configured IP addresses starting with 192.100.100.2 for the server and continuing on .3,.4, etc. On October 21st we were set up for DSL service with Verizon-purpose to provide internet access for all users on the network except the server. The DSL modem/router is a Westell 6100. It is connected to the switch, ethernet,and phone jack. We do not use any DSL phone filters because we have a phone system (Merlin) and filters aren't needed. During the DSL installation,it was necessary to change our manual TCP/IP setting to DHCP in order to connect to the internet. This of course gives different IP addresses. It also necessitated giving the switch an IP address which was assigned 192.100.100.1-a number I understand is normally reserved for the router. During installation, after he got internet connection, the workstations lost all connection to our server-data base. He went back in, switched us back to manual TCP/IP and all was working well until last night. While I was doing a port scan in the network utility on one of the work stations, we lost internet connection throughout the network. The DSL modem showed power, ethernet, DSL but no internet. After working with Verizon several times today, we were able to get connected. There was a mismatch of user and password on the router which they tell me was most likely due to a power surge. In order to reset the DSL we direct connected off the Lan using DHCP. I was happy to have the modem up again but advised the very helpful Verizon rep that I had now lost the LAN. He advised, very nicely and correctly,"not my job". I have now tried any number of combinations in the network preference panels with no success. I even made one attempt with internet sharing on one of the computers to make it be a router but succeeded only in knocking it off the LAN and no connection. Right now that means we can only use the LAN even though the DSL modem is connected again. Any ideas anybody.

Have gotten some additional information to add to the mix on this issue. First-apologies to Rick on not getting back to you earlier. We have had internet connectivity problems over the weekend due to high wind-trees down. Also spent all day with software people who were able to come down on Saturday to address glitches so we wouldn't have to go in over Timbuktu. They have no idea how to fix. Situation is still as it was-just a bit more info. It is not that the LAN itself will not work when we are connected to the internet via DHCP. It is our operating software that will not work that way. It states on the PracticeMaker,(modified FileMakerPro) opening page "Must use TCP/IP, cannot use DHCP. Each computer must have its own IP address". So it is not actually the LAN going down though the net result is the same. The fellow who set it up got back to me. He thought the only thing he did differently was to manually enter 2 DNS addresses but I already had those in. I have further determined that the Westell 6100 modem is a modem+router. Saw a post on the G5 forum where Verizon techs advised Mac user to set it up via PPPoE. Looked at that option but don't know what to do with it. By the way, same user got 4 different set up configs from 4 different Verizon techs. I have to think that I would need to change the modem/router configuration which is currently set up "DHCP with private LAN".

I understand that on the printer settings it only allows you to be either wireless or hard wired to the LAN. is there possibly a way for both settings to be on simultaneously? I have a user here that's on an iPad and connects to our network via wireless, but at the same time has a virtual pc session from his remote office and the printer needs to be hard wired to the lan to print from the vpc session. Hi sorry for the late reply, yes the address is in the same subnet as what the ssid is broadcasting at. the issue i'm having now is that the printer is not broadcasting itself through airprint. I can't see the printer show up when i want to print a web page. I've tested on an ipad and an iphone. i've gone through all the settings and everything checks out fine. The printer is connecting to the correct network which is the same wireless ssid the ipad and iphone is connected to wirelessly. Just seems the printer isn't broadcasting itself. Any suggestions as to what I may be missing here? Thanks.

Can WRT54G use WPA and WEP at the same time?

I used to have a smc 802.11b wireless router and a dlink 802.11b wireless print server.
In order to have WPA and a firewall, I replaced the wireless router with a linksys WRT54G.
Then I realize the dlink print server, even though it has the "g" keyword in the model name, does not do WPA (DP-G321).
Do I have to buy a 802.11g wireless print server? Or is there another solution?
I don't supposed the linksys router can do both WPA and WEP at the same time?
Connecting the print server to the router with a cable is not feasible. They are on different floors.

both of your devices are has a wireless b technology settings, just set a wep encryption on your network rather than wpa because some wireless b devices don;t work with wpa. with regards to your query if wep and wpa can be used at the same time, the answer is no.

Can't recording Midi and Audio at the same time

I'm in GREAT need of help. I can't record midi and audio at the same time. I'm using an M AUDIO project mix I/O. I know this is VERY basic stuff but I can't seem to get it to work.I can record multiple audio at once. ANd I can record midi but not at the same time. PLEASE help . Is there a setting somewhere I need to change ? Thanks

Enable all audio tracks (R) you wish to record. Then make sure you select the audio instrument you are using on the left of the arrange page (track list). If you here your input, hold shift, then highlight (gray) the mentioned audio tracks you wish to record on. When R is red, and the proper tracks are grey, you can record. Hope that made sense!

You can run both sites on the same server. You should just set the site security on the intranet site to only allow access from internal IP addresses. But for security reason, it's not adviceable to do that.

My SB Audigy 2 card can't use headset and musicamplifier at the same time

Hi, i just bought a SB Audigy 2 [D400] and i have downloaded drivers and programs. I run Windows XP SP2.
The soundcard works fine but it is very very annoying that i physically have to change the jack in the green=line out jack from headset to musicamplifier when i want to use my musicamplifier and change back the jack in the green=line out from musicamplifier to headset when i just want to use the headset/headphones .
In the shop they told my that i can connect both amplifier and headset at the same time and then with creative software control whether there is sound in the headset or in the amplifier. But i can't simple get it work.
I tried to use the green to the amplifier and the headset/speakers in the black (line out 2) and then with creative speaker settings softeware choose headphones but still the ampliefier receive the sound and no sound in the headphones. Why? In fact no matter what configuration i try the headphones doesn't work.
But if i change the jacks so headset is in the green line out then only headset is working and the amplifier doesn't work no matter i put it in sort=line out 2 jack or orange=line out 3 jack.
Can somebody here tell me if it is possible or not to connect both headset and external amplifier and control by software which to play? and how?

If you can have an ASIO compatible music playing system, then it might be possible to have system like you wish when using Creative Audigy 2 card. Since ASIO bypasses Windows Audio System, you can use both 'drivers' (ASIO - WDM/MME/DS) side by side.
Say you want to play a game (using headset /w mic) and someone other like to listen music at the same time. With ASIO capable system you can output your music for example to "center L/R (stereo) channels" and same time output sounds from other source (using MME/DS/WDM drivers) to normal output channel (Front L/R). Only thing is, you need to set your speakersystem to 4 or 6 (depending which other channel you're using) (and for better 'balance' to adjust "angle" on THX console. You get the THX console by installing Audigy 2 Zs software).

If you use ASIO on BeatPort Player you can select L/R individually from the list(s). Same rules as described earlier.
= You can play from 2 different sources simultaoneusly (ASIO + WDM/MME/DS) to two different outputs without disturbance. The other (WDM/MME/DS) source is set 'automatically' output to (Audigy) "green" port, and the other (ASIO) to "black" or "orange" port (as set).

Can ADF keep multiple pages open at the same time?

My company is currently developing an application to upgrade a client's FORMS system to one based on ADF. One of our client's biggest complaints with the new technology is that he can't work on many tasks at the same time, because our application can't work with "tabs" or "different windows", like Forms can with the "open form ()" function.
Currently, we use a page called "main.jspx" with the main menu and a region under it, where we load all the "jsff" pages, which do all the different tasks in their systems (like autorizeBuyOrder.jsff, createNewOrder.jsff, etc...).
Right now, I can only have one "jsff" page loaded on the region at once, and I wanted to make my application able to load and keep track of as many as the user wants. I was thinking on something like a tabs system, or multiple windows system. Does ADF provide any elegant way to do this? Any material you can recommend me?

ATT can't tether/hotspot and do voice at same time?

While using the new hotspot feature in IOS6 on a 4S, I can't tether/hotspot and do a voice call at the same time. It appears to pause the clients on the hotspot, although data directly from applications on the phone seem to work. I understand Verizon's phones are limited to no data and voice at the same time, but I can't see why this is a technical problem for ATT. Perhaps a software limitation with IOS6? Has anyone got this to work? How about on the iPhone5?

I did some more testing with a very strong data connection (like sitting under a att tower). Apparently it works, but largely unusable. ICMP echo requests go from 50-60ms across the link to 8000-9000ms when on a voice call. Existing tcp connections were very slow. Setting up new tcp sessions were largely impossible. I'm thinking it has more to do with the phone spending cycles handling the voice call than a network issue. Anyone try this with the iPhone5 to see if the faster hardware helps? I'm trying this with a 4S. What about with jailbroken software (to rule out hardware)?

Can MBP run both WiFi and Ethernet connections at same time?

I've been running my mid-2012 MBP via USB and WiFi.
I acquired 8-port 10/100Mbp Switch. Can I run hardware like printers, external HD from MBP via the Ethernet switch and still keep USB connections and WiFi net for other purposes at same time?
(I found USB-ethernet adapters on internet)

Macs and many PCs can keep multiple network connections going. When you look at the list of connections in the Network system preference, the one on top is the primary connection and if you want another network interface to be the primary (like Ethernet) you use Set Service Order to drag it to the top of the list.
But when you do that, I think all services use whatever is primary. What I don't know how to do is make specific applications use specific network interfaces.

Unable to connect router to internet and computer at the same time.

I'm not sure where to start, but here goes. We recently got the internet set up at out new house. Of course, the only connection is downstairs and the computer is upstairs. The guys that set the internet up said we needed a wireless router and I said "Ok, cool."
He gave us a router and a receiver and hooked them both up. (I myself know quite a bit about computers but I figured I'd let him do his job.) So we're all set up and I start playing my game and I get a "Windows has a conflict with another computer on this IP" or something like that. I figured I might as well put some security up on this thing. So I go downstairs and hit the SecureEasySetup (SES from now on) button and come back up here and follow all of the steps and it say's that it's not connected. I run back downstairs and looc for the MAC Address and notice that it was not mentioned as one of the selectable routers.
I figured the guy didn't really install the router, just hooked the internet up into it and plugged it in, and that my reciever picked up someone else's from the neighborhood. So I go and get the CD to install and notice that I have to have the router plugged into the computer AND the internet at the same time for installation to complete. Uhh, that could be a problem. Computer upstairs + router and internet cable downstairs = no go.
So here's my question: What can I do about that? I can't have the computer and the internet hooked up to the router at the same time.

First off... don't use the setup CD.
Configure your router by http(ing) to the IP address, log in, and configure that way. much easier. typically its http://192.168.1.1
username admin
password admin
once you get logged in change that password and Remember it! If you lose it, you'll have to reset to factory defaults.
2nd
Change your SSID. Default is "linksys" you'd be suprised how many people leave the thing as defaults and someone else is using yoru network connection...

Add security WPA is better than WEP
4th
Now go upstairs and look for your new SSID, connect with your WPA code and you should be set.
5th - Not needed but for info...
If you want to go that far... you can change your DHCP set to something like 10.0.10.x but you'll have to manually change the IP of the router to that subnet as well...

WAN and LAN at the same time?

I have the 2nd gen Airport Express. Right now I have the cable from my internet modem running into the WAN port on the Airport and creating a Wifi network. However, when I play Xbox One online I get some bad connections a lot, especially when there are other devices on my network.
Is it possible to connect my Xbox via a wired cable into the LAN port on the Airport while still having the cable from the modem creating a wifi network through the WAN port? In my head I feel like this would create a wired connection for my Xbox which would get less interference than the wireless WAN connection I'm trying now. I'm not entirely sure how all of this stuff works so I may be wrong, but it sounds like a good idea in theory.

You can plug the Xbox into LAN port of the Express. The Express is in full router mode so it will work on either wireless or ethernet ports.. but I doubt this will help you much.
Apple have no Quality of Service.. and it sounds like multiple users are on the internet.. particularly users running videos will get some preference over game use.. that is built into wireless. And wireless will often work better than ethernet even though by nature ethernet is faster.
You will really need a router with better controls.

Can't download game and browse web at same time

I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. For about a month now, I'm unable to download a game from Big Fish Games and browse the web at the same time. I've contacted BFG, but so far their only suggestion was to upgrade from i.e. 6 to i.e. 7, & re-install their game manager, which I did. I don't know if this is a problem with BFG or my internet connection (too slow?).
Occasionally, I seem to be unable to open 2 web pages at the same time, getting a no internet connection error...
I have Belkin router connecting a laptop. The problem is happening on my desktop. I'll be glad to provide any information needed.....please help!

How to use internet and airport express at same time?

I have my airport express set up in a room with my stereo. I can stream from computer and iTunes music library fine. My internet net gear modem is in another room connected to the phone line. My computer is an another room again. All devices can stream to the stereo from the iTunes library. I also want to play iTunes radio and other internet music apps and stream to the stereo. It seems they can't because they are unable to use both networks 'airport' and 'net gear' at the same time. I'm thinking if the airport express was plugged into the modem it would all work, is that right? But my stereo and speakers throughout the house all run from a different room. The other option is to move the phone but thats not an option either. What else can I do?

You need to tie things together in one network.
That means the express should be setup to join the netgear.. not work stand alone.
But it is much better to have ethernet run.. or use all apple routers. So you can extend wireless rather than join.
Some EOP homeplug adapters are ok.. but they are rather like wireless in being unknown until you test them. And why ethernet is well worth the cost.
