Can't launch application - 10810

After restarting all applications will launch, but after several minutes - when I try to launch a new application, I get the message "Can't launch application XYZ - 10810"
If I restart, then, again, any application will launch.

See if this helps:
The following have been suggested as possible solutions:
1. If you're using 10.3, you need to get rid of the following:
/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.6B.csstore
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
(where '~' means your Home directory, i.e. '/Users/yourname')
2. If you have Virex or other virus software installed, try uninstalling it. Be sure to use uninstallers that come with the software because simply deleting the application does not fully uninstall most virus software.
After deleting the referenced files above you will want to do a restart. Then use Disk Utility in your Utilities folder to repair permissions.

  • Can't start application 10810

I'm travelling and have had my iBook G4 connected to the free ADSL here. The computer started acting wierd, and I started troubleshooting. Realized that I had left my firewall off since doing an update with my iMac a few weeks ago.
Can't run Disk Utility - it stops about 1/3 of the way through Permissions verify and/or Permissions Repair.
Anyhow, I re-installed Norton Internet Security, updated the virus definitions and did 2 full scans. Nothing.
If I leave the computer on for more than a few hrs, and then try to start any program, I get a "Can't start application - 10810" message.
Any ideas? I figure I'll reinstall OSX when I get home in a week if nothing else.

From what I've heard, the 10810 error is a non-specific error that provides no clue as to what the real problem is.
All I know is that my TiBook 800MHz OS 10.3.9 started exhibiting the same behavior several weeks ago. I've tried everything short of wiping the computer and reinstalling OSX. Disk Utility is a no go. Wondered if maybe my screen saver was the culprit, but disabling had no effect.
My problem was exascerbated by the fact that my Dock would also hang. Couldn't force quit, even using the Process Monitor. I had to do a forced shut down with the power button and restart about four times a day. I traced this problem to the desktop pictures, of all things. Turned off random cycling and the Dock hang went away. Now, at least I can use a real system shutdown/restart when applications won't launch.
It feels to me like a bug in a recent Apple software update. I wish they would track it down, because the situation is quite frustrating.

  • Xfce menu problem (can't launch applications)

I have a very weird problem with xfce's popup menu (right click). I try to launch an application from it (Multimedia/Mplayer for example) and it doesn't want to open for some reason. The sequence i do is Right click to get menu to popup, click on app i try to launch, menu dissapears and app doesn't open. I have to repeat this sequence about 3-5 times untill the app finally opens.
The only thing in the menu witch launches at first click like it should is the Settings Manager, Run program, terminal, file manager and web browser. Anything in the submenu's doesn't want to launch on the first try.

As a start you might try the following:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Can't launch applications

I am having a problem launching some applications. Apps like mail, ichat, and toast 6 lite that used to work fine suddenly don't. When I double click the icon or try to launch from the dock, nothing happens. I don't get any error message, it just won't launch. I've tried repairing permissions. Also I tried launching toast from the cd and it does the same thing. It's really weird. I hope someone can help.

  • Can't launch applications from Safari link

When I try to open any external application through the Safari link, I'm redirected to the Safari "Favourites" tab and the app fails to launch.
For instance, on clicking on a magnet link, the default torrent client(uTorrent in my case) should launch. Or when clicking on the "View in the Mac App Store" link for any application on the apple website, the app store launch. However, instead of launching the application, safari redirects me to the favourites page.
I understand certain apps like Candy Crush were automatically redirecting users to the app store and apple resolved the issue in the updated OS, but is there a way to filter which apps safari can launch, maybe even if it asks for a password?

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • SGD - Fails to launch applications

We are having a problem with SGD - we can not launch applications.
We have SGD 4.2 running on a Solaris 10 server.
We had SGD up and running good. However, we had several things occur and now it does not work. First we had to relocate our server due to building renovations. Then shortly after setting up the system in the new location, we had a hard drive fail. And unfortunately the sys admin guys did not have a good/current backup of the drive. We did however reload a backup that was about 9-months old. However it does not work correctly now.
We can bring up the main SGD web page, can login to the system, and see the applications and function set up in object manager. However when we try to launch an application it fails.
Looking in the error.log file we see a message "failed to open display"
However we can not see how SGD sets the display to enable the application to be viewed over the web connection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

It is a good thing to have as much help as possible. One of the other SAs working on the problem entered his google search a little different and came up with this hit: (http://blogs.sun.com/malhar/entry/sun_secure_global_desktop_tarantella -- text below) that fixed our problem. Thought I would post it here for the next person who runs into the same problem.
Sun Secure Global Desktop (Tarantella) "DISPLAY variable not set" error message?
If you've been facing a problem with the erstwhile Tarantella, now Sun Secure Global Desktop (SGD), where you get don't see X applications opening up when you click the link, you're in luck.
    I have the solution.
If you are fast enough to click on the "Show Details" button before the application loading window opens and then closes, you will see in the logs that the application cannot open because it finds that the DISPLAY variable is not set.
Also, if you read the documentation, you will see that the admin guide explicitly asks you to NOT set the DISPLAY variable which gets set automatically. So where's the problem?
What you need to do is this:
    1. Open the /etc/rc.d/init.d/Tarantella script in your favourite text editor
    2. Look for TTASSHCLIENT (this is usually commented out)
You will notice that the line will look something like this
    #TTASSHCLIENT="";export TTASSHCLIENT
    3. Uncomment the line
    4. Add /usr/bin/ssh -X inside the quotes on the line to make the line look like this
    TTASSHCLIENT="/usr/bin/ssh -X";export TTASSHCLIENT
    And restart!
That's it. You're problem is solved. I accept your thank yous in advance

Finally able to get into the Calssic Webtop. I ended up increasing the file descriptors and rebooting. I then totally removed the package again and installed again.
I get a java i/o exception if I select the first desctop login, but I fI select the classic webtop, I can at least log in and get the display page of the applications avaialble. When I select an application, I get a server timeout and the app does not start.
Now, I just need to figure what the issues are now and resolve them.

  • Error -10810 when launching applications

Hi, I have a Core 2 Duo LED screen MacBook Pro that I upgraded to Leopard. I did a clean install, and then imported my settings and documents using the migration assistant.
When I try to launch certain applicatons, I get the following error message: "The application "(Application Name)" cannot be launched. -10810".
The (Application Name) is the name of the application that cannot be launched. So far, it's happened with the following applications: Quicktime, Parallels Desktop, Google Earth, Slingplayer, Photoshop CS3, Safari, Quicksilver, and more. If I restart, then this problem stops with some applications, but keeps on going with others. There seems to be no pattern with this error, it just happens sometimes, and then doesn't. Can anyone help?

In my machine, I have traced the problem to a bug in Microsoft IntelliPoint Mouse Driver Software Version 6.0 (v.147).
The problem manifests itself when the wireless mouse battery is running low. When this happens, the Mouse Driver causes a dialog box to appear on the screen letting you know that your mouse is critically low. It has a way of dismissing the alert or postponing it until later.
The problem is that neither of these function properly. If I postpone or dismiss, the Driver software immediately spawns a new dialog, over and over and over.
I like to run my batteries down completely, so I moved the alert into the background. This is when things started to act up and I started to get the 10810 messages.
When I replaced my batteries in the mouse, the dialog boxes stoppped and the error 10810 stopped.

  • The application "whatever" cannot be launched.  -10810  Getting this error.

On Friday, I ran into a issue where I can't launch new programs from the dock.
When I try to launch something, it gives me an error message. The application "Firefox" cannot be launched. -10810.
I end up having to reboot the whole computer. Then I can start programs again.
But after half an hour, the issue is back and I am getting the error again.
I am typically running Mail, Safari 3.1, Parallels, newest Firefox and Adium (newest version).
I can't really relate it to any specific single program that is causing the problems.
What does that error message mean?
    Anyone have any ideas?
I already installed the new firmware update today, hoping that would magically fix it. But it didn't help.
I have all the latest apple updates for the computer installed, and Leopard.

    Any ideas?

Just make a .bat file. Open notepad, type something like
