Can't launch DAQ assistant in LabVIEW

Hi
I cannot launch DAQ assistant from LabVIEW, but i can do that from MAX. DAQ from MAX is not that flexible because i can't customized the code or convert it.  I 've tried all the various ways to open DAQ assistant and i finally realized something, on the block diagram, i open Tools/Advance/Edit palette/Express/Input/DAQ is missing (question mark) and many more functions are missing.
I'm using  the evaluation software of Labview 8.6 and NIDAQmx 8.7.1
Can you please tell me what is wrong. I really need to launch NI DAQmx from LabVIEW.

Hi Christ
Thanks for the feedback.
From Block diagram interface: Function palette/Measurement
I/O ? (there is nothing just MAX config).
But from Front Panel: Modern/ I/O controls, i can see DAQmx names controls
which i don't think i need now.
What do  mean reintalling DAQmx with LV
support, is it different from the LabVIEW evaluation software or i just have to
reinstall the LV
evaluation software.

  • Can't use Daq Assistant in Labview 7.1

hi! I have Labview 7.1 installed and an AT-MIO-16E-10 NI board. I can see the board in MAX\devices&Interfaces\traditional NI-DAQ but i can't run any tests(Test panels). I don't know if this is normal for this NI-DAQ model. anyway my main conceirn is that i can not use DAQ Assistant in LabView(when i double click on it or right click->Properties nothing happends). So i can't use my board in LabView. please help! thanks a lot

You can use your board in LabVIEW but you can't use it with DAQmx. In the DAQ Quick Start Guide, the supported devices are listed and the AT E series is only supported with traditional DAQ.

I'm not finding a DAQmx version 9.1.7.  Even then according to this fancy chart, You need DAQmx 9.5.5 or newer (currently up to 9.8) to work with LabVIEW 2012.  If you don't have the driver disk that came with your copy of LabVIEW, I would recommend downloading the latest version (DAQmx 9.8).

  • Getting the data in file using DAQ assistant in Labview

I am using SCXI 1000 chassis, SCXI 1125 input module and SCXI 1320
    terminal.
I am using DAQ assistant in labview to obtain temperatures and store it in
a file. The experiments run the whole day and I need the whole data
generated during this time to be stored in a single file, but I am unable
to store it in a single file.
Can someone please give me some insight as to how can I achieve this?

    Hi Mr,
It would be helpful to see your code to see exactly how you are acquiring the data. Are you doing continuous buffered measurements? Or are you performing single point temperature measurements in a while loop?
Either way you will want to use the "write to spreadsheet" VI in your loop. Simply wire your data into the "write to spreadsheet" vi and se the "append to file" input to TRUE. This will make the data add on to the end of the file with each iteration of the loop. The "write to spreadsheet" VI is located in the file IO pallette in LabVIEW.
    Thanks,

  • DAQ-Assist crashes Labview....

    Hi,
      I'm running Labview 8.0.1
I use the DAQ-Assist to read info from some channels.....
I drag the icon on my block diagram, which automatically opens the wizard. I setup channels, type of signal (voltage, current, etc), hit OK and after ~30 seconds (where LV says first "Verifying task' and then "Building VI, please wait"), it creates an ExpressVI without any problems.
The problem is whenever I try to edit/change/add settings.... Say that later I wanna change the voltage range on one of the channels, or add another channel. I go in (double click on the icon), make the changes and when I hit OK, LV crashes after about 15 or 20 seconds of displaying the "buidling VI, please wait" message.
Usually I have to re-create the whole thing (drag a second icon, and delete the first one) to avoid the problem.
I've seen this happen even with new VI's that I create from scratch. It happens 95% of the time, other times it works flawlessly.
     What's wrong?

    Hello Emerino,
    Thanks for contacting National Instruments.
It looks like there is an issue with the installation of either your DAQ driver.  The knowledgebase LabVIEW Application Error: The instruction at address x referenced memory at address y. The memory c... goes over possible causes of the error you are seeing.  Most likely a file in your LabVIEW or DAQmx install has become corrupted and is causing LabVIEW to crash.
First, attempt to repair all of your NI software.  This can be done by going to the Add or Remove Programs screen and clicking the change/remove button next to the National Instruments Software selection.  This will bring up a list of all of the installed NI software that is on your computer.  Highlight all of this software and choose to repair.  During this process the installer will ask for the LabVIEW CDs as well as locations of any installers that were downloaded to your hard drive.
If you are still having trouble running your DAQ assistant, update to the latest version of DAQmx.  This will have updates to numerous known issues as well as increase the stability of the DAQmx driver.
The Investigate Previous Internal Error window you are seeing after a crash is a way for you to report any unexpected errors in LabVIEW that caused it to shut down.  If you choose to report the error, National Instruments can use the information to improve its software products.  This window should only appear when opening LabVIEW after a crash occurs.
Please post back if you continue to have issues or if you have any questions.

  • Struggling how to set up 2 daq assist on labview in the same VI

    hi all,
hope someone can help me out
I am currently using the scxi 2345 with some SCC FT01 feed through modules, these are just to record some voltages from some transducers.
What I am struggling with is setting up 2 daq assist on a single VI, it is coming back with a error stating specified resouce is reserved and then a window saying learn more about automatic handling. How would I also have these 2 values logged on the same graph or chart?
Anyone any ideas how to set these up.
I ideally want to have 3 daq assist in the same Vi but not sure if this is possible. It would be 1 for thermocouple input and 2 for voltage as stated above
    many thanks
    shane dover

    Hi Shane and Dennis,
I've been working my way around the same type of problems, and I am
currently re-writing everything to use on Asst. per board on my PXI
chassis, so that no resources become reserved.
As a result, I have to separate the signals on the output dynamic data
in order to do different post processing.  So I have been toying
with staying with dynamic data, inputting dyn. data into an array, and
inputing it into a cluster.  It seems that each has advantages and
drawbacks, but arrays seem to be the easiest with which to work when
splitting signals coming from a DAQmx Asst. and funneling some of the
signals into a post-processing sub-VI.  The drawback to this is
that time stamps in the Dyn. Data are lost if you want to record the
data and the time of the reading.
Question:  Is there an easy way to pipe Dynamic Data into a
calculation subVI?  Is it workable after it's been split from
    other streams?
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • Can I launch MS Access from labVIEW?

I would like to programmatically lauch MS Access and compact a database. Or perhaps I could set the table to compact on exit and exit it programmatically through labVIEW. Can I launch and exit a Microsoft application using labVIEW?

Yes, you can use ActiveX for that, to start, you should place an Automation open in the diagram, select activeX class (Access application) and from there, follow wiring property and invoke nodes to do almost anything with Access.
    Hope this helps

  • Labview ignores all but 1 Daq Assistant, how can I avoid this?

When I am putting together my block diagram, I use the DAQ Assistant to orchestrate everything.  Then when I go to create another DAQ Assistant instance, LabVIEW seems to ignore the first one.  It appears as though I can only use one DAQ Assistant at a time in my VIs, is this the case?  I am a bit of a novice, is there an easy way to avoid this, or change the orginal DAQ Assistant into some other form so I can use another DAQ Assistant for developing another part of my VI?
I have looked long and hard for a good explanation of the difference between Tasks and Virtual Channels and while I have found efforts at explaining it, I do not understand.  I see that I can convert my DAQ Assistant into a task, but then I have a task output which does not help me (I need a data output for my VI).
I am sure this is obvious to someone that has done it a million times, but I just can't find an answer wading through all of the knowledge base information or the LabVIEW help.
    Thanks a bunch!
    ~milqman

    Hello milq,
That following tutorial that Novatron linked you earlier is an awesome resource for becoming familiar with programming with the NI-DAQmx.
Learn 10 Functions in NI-DAQmx and Solve 80% of Data Acquisition Applications
An important point to take away from this tutorial is that you can either create a DAQmx task using the wizard-style interfaces provided by the DAQ Assistant and within Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), or you can programmatically create and configure your DAQ Task in your LabVIEW code using the DAQmx Create Virtual Channel VI, DAQmx Timing VI, etc.  When you create a new DAQmx Task using the wizard-style interface, you are configuring all of the settings for your task manually.  When you use that DAQmx Task in LabVIEW (with a DAQmx Task Control or Constant), you are referencing all of those configuration options you've manually set.  To actually perform a read or write operation based on those settings, you need to wire the DAQmx Task into the 'task in' input of a DAQmx Read or DAQmx Write VI.
So for your analog input operation, you can wire the task directly into a DAQmx Read VI.  In the DAQmx Read VI, you'll want to select the type of task your reading from in the drop down box (Analog), if your reading from a single or multiple channels (1 Chan or N Chan), and if taking just one or multiple measurements with each call to the DAQmx Read VI (1 Samp or N Samp)
For your digital output operation, you'll want to configure a separate digital output task, and wire it directly to a DAQmx Write VI.  Again, select the type of task your writing to (Digital), if your writing to a single or multiple channels, and if you want to perform a single write or multiple writes.
To help with getting started with DAQmx programming in LabVIEW, I would highly recommend taking a look at the DAQmx example located in the LabVIEW Example Finder (Help > Find Examples).  A difference you'll note in these examples is that all the task configurations that you have been making with the wizard-style DAQ Assistant are done programmatically with the DAQmx Create Channel and DAQmx Timing VI.  I hope this helps and good luck!

  • Can I use AI functions rather than DAQ assistant?

Can I use AI config, AI start, etc. instead of DAQ assistant to read values from accelerometers connected via an A/D card? How do the AI functions work?Lastly will switching to AI functions result in a quicker program?
    Cheers
    Sam

    Sam,
from your second  point i take it that you are starting to browse examples. The device number (as numeric value) is a parameter you have to use when working with traditional DAQ. NI does not recommend to use traditional DAQ anymore except if there is no other solution (e.g. hardware which is not supported in DAQmx).
Since you already worked with the DAQ assistant, your hardware has to support DAQmx.... so you should look into the DAQmx examples.
    Another hint:
You can exchange the DAQ assistant by DAQmx code simply by rightclicking on the assistant and  select "Generate DAQmx Code". This will result in DAQmx code doing what you configured in the assistant (please note that the assistant is getting replaced, so it is not available on the blockdiagram after this). Study this code. As a general framework, this works out very good.
    hope this helps,

  • DAQ Assistant in subvi not updating output to DAQ board with each call...

    Hi All,
I am calling a simple subvi that creates a user-defined number of pulses with "Square Waveform.vi."  This square wave (with the given total number of pulses) is then used as an input to a DAQ Assistant controlling an analog output signal on a NI USB-6259 DAQ board.  I am using Labview 8.5 right now.
However, each time I call this subvi from my main program, the output I measure from the DAQ board is identical to whatever I set in the first call (i.e., if i created two pulses in the first call, I get two pulses on every call, regardless of the input I feed to the subvi).  The multiple calls to this subvi are made in sequential frames in a stacked sequence.  I believe stacked sequences are frowned upon by good labview people, right?  But putting that aside for the moment...
The "#-of-pulses" input I give to the subvi is updated in a subvi front panel number indicator and a graph of this waveform.  Just not in the real output I measure from the board.  Why is the hardware output being asserted (with the original input value) before this new number can reach the DAQ Assistant?
The sloppy fix to this is just to put that square wave creation code in my main program each time I need it.  This does work and fixes my problem.  However, I would like to use subvis to keep things clean.
I am not a good Labview programmer, but have used this software for a number of projects and am stumped by this.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
I am running your code over here and seeing
the same results.  I believe the problem is that the DAQ Assistant is
being called inside a loop (really a sequence structure, but
nonetheless more than once).  Sometimes it is difficult to troubleshoot
the DAQ Assistant in cases like this--it is trying to be "smart" and
seems to be avoiding re-configuring its parameters inside the loop.
This is intended to improve loop speed for when customers are
performing continuous operations.  In this case, it is performing a
finite generation, and the number of samples generated appears to carry
over from one loop iteration to the other.
    It sounds
like you have discovered one workaround for this already: putting a DAQ
Assistant in each frame of the main VI.  Two other options that come to mind are:
Use the lower-level DAQmx functions inside
the sub VI.  Here you will have explicit control over when the task is
created and cleared, and when parameters are set.  You can find
examples of how to use the DAQmx API in the Example Finder at:
Help >> Find Examples... >> Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx
    Write
a consistent amount of samples to the DAQ assistant by "zero-padding"
your signal.  For example, instead of writing [10, 1010], try writing
[1000, 1010].  In this case, it wouldn't need to reconfigure the number
    of samples to generate.
One lesson to take away here is
that the DAQ Assistant is good for basic functionality, but for more
advanced control over the execution and configuration of your task you
should learn to use the lower-level DAQmx functions.  In this case it
sounds like the problem is actually a bug.  I'll file a bug report, since the DAQ
Assistant is not checking for waveform timing changes even though your
    timing is set to Use
    Waveform Timing.
Thank you for pointing out this odd
behavior--out of curiosity which version of DAQmx are you using?

  • USB-TC01 and DAQ assistant

    Hi
When I plug my USB-TC01, I can use the .exe example in the module but with DAQ Assistant in LabVIEW I don't see it. When I use MAX, I don't see it.
Do you know where is my problem ?

Now ... my question is ... why will my PC not boot when the USB-TC01 is plugged in??  I have adjusted everything in BIOS to make sure I am not trying to boot from USB nor CD/DVD drives.  Other than that the device works fine once the PC boots.  I tried using a self powered USB.  I am using XP, Pentium D, 3.2GHz, w/ 2BG RAM.  Any help?  I will also continue searching on how to post new messages.

  • DAQ Assist wont build

I am having issues with DAQ Assistant on Labview 2011.   I have the most up to date DAQmX drivers from the website.   Still have the issues after doing a full re-install of everything as well.
DAQ Assistant will find the channels and show the output in the top graph display area.   When you go to build the VI and click ok it just runs the "building" scanner bar and locks up completely.   It will also give the "Failed to create directory for auto recovery VIs" error message.
I had to install with ad-min rights, but cannot run under an ad-min account.   Do I need to set some kind of permission for the DAQ Assistant to work?  If so, which/and how do I set those specific rights.   Any other help?  Thanks in advance!

The solution was found by doing a Google search on "Run application as administrator on Windows 7", one of the found sites provided these various options:  I would stay away from options 7 & 8 unless you know exactly what you are doing..
