Can't launch some programes

Hi
I have an iBook, the hard crashed recentley and was replaced by the local apple shop. However, since then when I go to launch some programes that I have downloaded they will not launch.
An example, before I could install iTunes 7 but now 7.1 which I recently downloaded will not launch. Not even to check if it is able to install on my mac. Also the anti virus software ClamXav_1.0.7b
Is it me or the mac?
Look forward to any help you can give me.
James

James:
It is very likely the Mac. The installation of the OS may have problems.
First, Repair Disk.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
If that does not help, Repair Disk Permissions from internal HDD, download and install the 10.3.9 Combo Update, Repair Disk Permissions, then go to the Apple Menu > Software Update and download and install any updates, Repair Disk Permissions if you installed anything new.
Try this and then let me know how it goes. Please do post back with further questions or comments.
Good luck.

  • Can't run some programs after system restore to remove virus

    Hi,
My duaghter's Toshiba had a nasty virus that pretended to be an antivirus software product, that snuck in, between the time her default Norton service expired and I had the time to install Trend.
Could not remove it using Trend, so upon advice from a friend, decided to do a windows system restore to a point prior to the infection. This worked successfully, and the virus is gone, but now she can't run some programs, I have tried to install Trend again, but that fails as it says that you have to uninstall Norton first. But I can't run Norton, or uninstall it, and some folders on C: are no longer accessible.
Should I do a complete Toshiba system restore (ie back tofactory settings? This seems a drastic measure, but the issue is beyond my meagre PC skills.
    Thanks,
    Graeme

    Thanks for your reply.
The main issue is that we cannot run the Norton Anitvirus that came prepackaged with the laptop, and we can't uninstall it either. If you try to perform either action, nothing happens.
However, when we try to install a new antivirus software, Trend, the install fails because it detects that Norton is installed, and indicates that we must uninstall Norton before we can complete the Trend installation. But we cannot unistall Norton for some reason.
I am getting my daughter to check what else doesn't work, but Microsoft Office works OK, and most of the games she installed seem to work. I just don't understand why Norton won't work now, and why we cannot uninstall it. I don't know if its due solely to the system restore, or some combination of events. The introductory 3 mont Norton licence has expired some time ago, but it should still let us uninstall. I have also tried to unistall through the Control panel, but nothing happens when I try that either.
Is there any way to force the uninstall of Norton? Or is a factory reset the only viable option now?
    Thanks,
    Graeme

  • HT1438 i can't open some programs from my ipad anymore

i can't open some programs from my ipad anymore, not even the general setting; and i can't update to higher version of the softwear, currently it's  5.1.1.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Vista-switched from Explorer to FF 3.6- can't download versions/updates like Adobe Flash-error message: INSTALLER WILL CONTINUE AFTER CONFLICTING MOZILLA FF IS CLOSED-Most pics blocked on sites/programs-can't open some programs that Explorer opens- Help?

I have Vista, recently switched from Internet Explorer to FireFox 3.6-. Since switching over, it can't download alot of versions/updates like Adobe Flash: It error messages: "INSTALLER WILL CONTINUE AFTER CONFLICTING MOZILLA FIREFFOX IS CLOSED".
Most pics blocked on sites/programs. I can't open some programs that Explorer opens. I would sure appreciate any help!!!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases. Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

  • I just bought and downloaded Elements 12 but can't launch the program. Any ideas??

I just bought and downloaded Elements 12 but can't launch the program. Every time I try to sign in to my Adobe account to get started it shuts the whole program down everytime I click sign in. Very frustrated!! I had been using the trial version and loved it and want to work with the full version now!!!

If the trial version was still on the machine then you didn't need to install another program because Trial version can be activated by inserting your serial number and activated in the normal way.
I suggest try going to Help >> Activate
and see if you can activate it otherwise, if you can't launch the program then you need to uninstall the PSE completely from the Windows Control Panel and then restart the machine to make sure there isn't anything in the computer's memory.
Now restart the machine and install your program but this time making sure you also insert the serial number and your AdobeID so that you can register and activate the program automatically.
    Good luck

  • Can't open some Programs, Shared Lib Error

Just ran the latest security update (2009-004), which didn't finish. That's the first problem. I tried repairing permissions etc, but it still wouldn't finish.
Now, when I try to open some programs, notably Quicken and TechTools Deluxe, I get the following error:
The application "+Name of Program+" could not be launched because of a shared library errror: ""<+Name of Program+><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_AE>"
Any ideas on how to fix? I'm having a hard time finding all my install discs (getting ready to move, messy office), so would rather not have to resort to a reinstall.
    Thanks.

Well, I answered my own problem.
I rebooted into my Install Disk and repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility. Then I did a Safe Boot and repaired permissions. That fixed all the application not opening problems and the Security Update then ran fine.
So, all is well. Lesson learned. Repair permissions before running the update. (I knew that, but tried to save time.)
    Thanks anyway.

  • Can't Launch every program

Hello, i got a simple problem.
On some of the programs i want to start, as example program XYZ, Windows say "The program can't start because C:\Users\User\Desktop\XYZ.exe is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
But the file is there and work on windows 8/7/XP
Hope you can give me an idea to fix.
I tried already to create a shortcut and to launch as admin and with compatibility mode

    Hi Juli199696,
    According to the error message:
The program can't start because C:\Users\User\Desktop\XYZ.exe is missing from your computer
Where is the installation file located? Is this file of C:\Users\User\Desktop\XYZ.exe just a shortcut?
If so, how about run this application from the installation folder? For example, the adobe icon in my desktop, but the real location is in:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"
You can run it from the original location for check.
If this is not the case, I mean, if I put the process explorer(procexp.exe) in desktop, do you mean that I cannot launch this application?
If so, change the location, can we run it properly?

  • My MacBook Pro very slow after restarting and can't open some programs

One day I was using my Mac pro everything was fine until I restarted it, now I can't open any downloaded programs like google chrome and activity monitor crashes when I open it. I get beach ball of death by dong simple things like typing and clicking a link, and sometimes when i put it to sleep the fan is still on for a minute but the apple light is off and when I turn it on sometimes I get a blue screen

Maybe you need to provide more information?
What model MacBook Pro do you have?
    What version MacOS X?
Do you have any aftermarket add-ons? e.g. an added SSD?
What have you done so far to diagnose the problem?
e.g. Have you scanned your hard disk for errors with Disk Utility?

  • [SOLVED] Unable to open some programs in KDE, HFS+ partiton needs fsck

I've had two unsettling experiences today; I'm not sure if they're related or not.
I have a Mid-2012 MacBook Pro. I installed bluez + bluez-utils 5.13.1-1 in order to use an Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad. Following the instructions in the wiki for setting up bluetooth devices using bluetoothctl, I was able to connect to the keyboard without a hitch. However, when I connected the trackpad, I would be able to move the mouse for a few seconds and then the whole system would freeze and I would have to force reboot. I tried this a few a times. I couldn't find any errors in the logs or dmesg; the last entry in dmesg would always show the trackpad being connected, so it seemed like whatever happened after that wasn't being logged. I found a couple recent bug reports, one for Arch and one for Fedora, with similar issues.
I ran pacman -Syu in case my problem was due to outdated drivers or something, but it didn't get fixed. It's possible that the problems I've having now were caused by the update and have nothing to do with the trackpad, but I don't know.

In any case, now I can't open some programs; Skype and Okular both spend a while trying to open and then close again before anything happens. I also can't open the KDE application menu, although I can still launch programs with the quick launcher.
Also, I have a non-journaled HFS partition that I use to store media and has been working fine, but now I can't write to it. In dmesg there's an entry from hfsplus saying "Filesystem wasn't unmounted cleanly, mounting it as read-only" and suggesting I run fsck.hfsplus, which doesn't seem to exist. I assume this message refers to my media partition. I tried doing a systemctl short health test which checked out fine, but I don't know that that really has much meaning here. I do have a backup of it if anything risky or drastic needs to be done.
I'm generally new to Linux and not quite sure how to go about troubleshooting all this. I'd love some places to look, stuff to try, etc. Maybe I should try downgrading X server? I see some potentially weird stuff in my logs but nothing that looks like a smoking gun to me. However, I might just not know enough at this point to be able to recognize it.

I did read that report initially; I ended up just removing bluez and bluez-utils since I don't care that much about using those peripherals. I imagine that if I downgraded the kernel I might be able to run bluez and get the trackpad to work. I think I'd rather keep my copy of the kernel up-to-date at this point since I don't really care that much about using that trackpad. Thanks for the suggestion, though—if I decide I really do want to use it I'll downgrade and see if that helps.
The problems with running programs seem to have fixed themselves semi-mysteriously. That problem was persisting through reboots initially. I looked at the running processes and saw that the programs I had tried to open were actually running, but KDE wasn't behaving as such. I tried rebooting and using startx to see if I could see those programs running there, which I could. After that KDE behaved properly.
It seems like HFS support for fsck is poorly if at all supported outside of Mac OS, so I booted into Mac OS and ran fsck_hfs on my media partition. This worked, and I can read and write from it again.
EDIT: In case anyone is curious, there seems to be a fix pending for the trackpad issues—see here and here.

  • I can't launch Acrobat Pro 9.0 (OS 10.6.4).  Need Help.

    Hi:
    1.  I have acrobat pro 9.0 ( I haven't updated it) and it was working fine until several days ago, when I updated the OS to the current 10.6.4.   Prior to that, it was working fine with the prior version of snow leopard etc...
    2.  Now, when I try to launch acrobat pro, I just get this message saying that acrobat quit unexpectedly.    I figured that I needed to update acrobat pro, I downloaded the current update, but when I go to update the original application, I can't do it because the icon for acrobat pro is greyed out (hopefully this makes sense).     Furthermore, I can't update acrobat pro by launching the application and having the software updater figure out what is needed... because I can't launch the program in the first place.
    3.  Does anyone know what in the world is going on?   From all of the variables, it's obvious that there's some issue with acrobat pro 9.0 and OS 10.6.4, but I can't figure out how to update the acrobat pro 9.0.
Any thoughts / help, much appreciated.  Harry

Since you have already downloaded all the patches starting from 9.1 to 9.3.4, i would sugg
est a little longer route but this might solve your problem.
    1. Create a new admin account say admin1
    2. Log out from the current admin account and login as admin1(the new admin account)
    3. Now update Acrobat 9.0 to 9.3.4
    4. Now if you want you can logout and login into the original admin.
    Hope this solves your problem.

My CS6 program that has never had a problem before, is not telling me that there is an error and that it "unexpectedly quit" when I simply try to launch the program.  I have restarted my computer several times.  It does the same thing each time.  So then I tried uninstalling the program and re-installing.  It said that it could not install due to an error.  So I STILL can't launch my program.  I don't know what to do.  Any help would be appreciated.  I have to edit photos for a photoshoot and return them tomorrow. :/
