Can't lengthen duration of clip after entire project is finished?

I made an iMovie project which is basically a slideshow of still photos. THEN I decided some of the photos at the beginning should be up longer. When I try to increase the duration of each photo, for instance, type in 4.0 seconds, it appears to accept that, but then it just goes right back to making the clip last for a different duration (for instance 1.02.
Is there something working in the background to keep the entire project the same length or something? I need to show this over the weekend, and am in a bit of a panic! Thanks for any help!

I am making a movie with about 900 stills each set at 00:10 second.
I deleted the com.apple.imovie.plist file; opened my project in iMovie HD 6.0.0; changed the duration to 00:10 in the Show Photo Settings in the Media tab.
Now when drag stills from my hard drive into the clips window, they are all 00:10 second.
I had manually changed quite a few before I ran across your suggestion to ditch the pref file!
This way, they are ALL added to the movie at the correct time.

How can I lengthen duration of subtitle?

In editing, when adding a subtitle to a clip I cannot make the subtitle last long enough no matter what variations of duration and pause I try. For example, if my clip is six seconds long, the subtitle will not show for more than two seconds. When creating a title page and using "over black", I can make the title last longer but only by lengthening the entire clip - so that the subtitle might show for six second but then there's a black screen for eight more seconds. I discussed this with an iMovie tech support guy via phone and he couldn't figure out what was wrong and why it wasn't working right. Any suggestions?

Yes, I checked the box for clearing the System cache. I also tried your other suggestion but that didn't work either. However, I was able to successfully add your subtitles, and for some reason that seems to work! I have no idea why, when the regular ones don't, and it looks like I'll have no choice but to re-do all the photos that I've already done with subtitles, but that's ok. I don't have subtitles on all of them anyway. I do have one small question. I'm wondering why you don't have a subtitle that is centered at the bottom, much like you would see in watching a subtitled movie. It appears that yours are either centered in the middle of the image or in the lower left corner. I feel it's easier to read when bottom centered but maybe that's just me. And it doesn't cover as much of the image. Anyway, thank you for your help. I may never know why the standard subtitles won't work properly. I did notice that the stripe subtitles built into the program seem to last longer for some reason.

Can't set duration of clips

The duration of a clip will never hold to my setting. I have to set a second or two above or below the desired point in order to even get close. I'm more familiar with Windows Movie Maker but have tried everything I can think of with no success. No such problem with transitions. Also, is there a way to increase the size of the project area or reduce the lower section of the program?

You must be using a lot of transitions. A transition borrows frames from the clip before and after.

Also, in iMovie Preferences, you can set Display Time as hh:mm:ss:frames. If this is not checked, you get hh:mm:ss:tenths of seconds. Editing by frames gives you more precision, because there are about 3 frames in 1/10 of a second.
So if you are editing by frames 20 is 20 frames. 40 is 40 frames which is the same as 1 second and 10 frames. If you are editing by tenths, .3 is about 9 frames

Deleting Clips After Completing Project

I am a novice here. After creating a project can I delete the clips used in that project or are they still used to play the movie?

You are using a Non-Destructive Video editor. Meaning.
• Video Imported/Capture is stored in one place
• Project - is no movie but a text document pointing to the original material and how it is to be played.
So when trashing Event's - Project's too are killed.
To get space on Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk I do move Event's and Project's to external HDs
• MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted
• Should be FireWire - As USB/USB2 performs badly to me
• MUST MUST - be moved within iMovie Application - Never moved or altered via DeskTop/Finde as connections to iMovie will break.

Can't open Excel File manually after MS Project has opened it via VBA

I was testing a section of code I got from a forum that opens a Excel Workbook via MS Project VBA so that I could use it to update a Excel Workbook that I have. The macro opens the Workbook as intended but the main problem I'm encountering is that
after I've run the macro, saved and closed the Workbook again, I'm unable to open it manually either from Recents or directly from folder location. I'm using Project 2010 (non Server) and Excel 2010 - Windows 7.
I'm also having trouble getting it to select "Sheet2" of the Workbook when it opens so I've Commented it out, but it would be a bonus if someone could shed some light on that one as well.
Edit: I worked out how to select the Sheet...I've updated the code Below.

Actually your macro code works fine and I can re-open the file without problem.
I don't recall asking in your other post but do you have SP2 installed for Project 2010? And, do you have SP2 installed for Office 2010, which will cover Excel? They are separate updates. It would also be a good idea to install the June 2013 cumulative update
for Project 2010 as it was released after SP2 and it does fix some VBA issues as I recall.
As I indicated, your code works fine on my PC which is also Project 2010, Office 2010 and Windows 7. Try this. After you run the macro and then save and close the workbook, does Excel also get closed automatically? If it does, (and it should), after you
close the workbook, take a look at the applications manager to see which Windows applications are currently running. Does Excel still show up?

I can't shorten my photo clips in the project window. Why not?

I have video clips and photos in the project window and at some point each photo doubled and when I just any form of "clip adjustment" for length it does not stick. I checked the fact that I wanted each photo to only last 4 s in the movie every one of them is a different time that I can't change.

How Can I Zoom in Further Into a Clip after a Crop?

I want to further crop a clip so I can focus on one portion of it, but the crop option has its rectangle limit. Is there anyway I can further zoom into my clip after the initial crop?

indeed, the crop-tool allows a max (min?) of about a quarter of original size..
workaround:
• avoid the iM crop-tool
• use any pic processor (Preview, Pixelmator, PSE..) to crop your wanted area..
• import pre-processed pic into your project..-

All of a sudden iMovie can't find half my clips in this proj...?

I sit down yesterday morning and start making a new movie in iMovie 10.0.1. I get about six minutes done, using maybe 15 clips. I quit iMovie and come back this morning to continue, but now it can't find half the clips in the project that worked just fine YESTERDAY. I am pulling the clips from different events in my iPhoto library. I have deleted nothing from there and have not edited these libraries in any way since I last worked on the project, yesterday.

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted. 
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete cookies.sqlite-journal and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
You can try to switch on Private Browsing ot see if that works with a new set of cookies.

Sounds like maybe you're using the same channel strip on multiple tracks? Make sure you're creating a new software instrument channel strip for each independent instance of Ultrabeat you want to have. If you use the same CS, then all tracks that use it will have to have the same kit.

Just discovered this nifty little bug myself today. Boy, Leopard is really bug city, I'm definitely regretting the upgrade. I was glad to find the 'show in mailbox' trick, although then once I went to re-send the message, it duplicated it for some reason and sent it twice, so now my business contact thinks I'm a moron because I sent him this super large attachment TWICE thanks to moronic Mail.app.
Another interesting thing though, is that after finding the email via 'show in mailbox' and opening it, it actually displayed the MP3 attachment as the old Tiger quicktime player (w/progress bar) as opposed to when I first composed the message and it would only display it as an icon. I thought they had just removed that feature for some reason, but nope! Another bug!

It is most likely a size issue. I have a 3 minute video that's almost 200 megs. If you're just trying to show it, you might consider youtube. if you're wanting to upload/share it then you can try things like Dropbox or other onlilne file sharing programs.

i have a simple .fla file wich contains MC that has
a motion tween(its moving from the left to the right of the stage)
this motion tween covers the whole time line ( there is only 50 frames in the time line)
i mean in the frame 1 the MC appears in the left of the stage
and in the frame 50 the MC appears in the right of the stage and there is a motion tween between them
every thing till now working well
i want to make that MC dragabble
so when i drag the MC i will use stop()
and when i drop it i will use play()
but the problem is that the mc doesnt move and complete
his motion tween movement when i drop it
for example the MC will be in the middle of the stage in frame 25
in this frame (25) i am draging the MC ,stoping the timeline,dropping the MC and resum playing the timeline again
but the MC freezes in the middle of the stage and doesnt go to the right of the stageo until the flash loops and start from the frame 1 again

Can you lengthen the clips used in Movie Trailers?

Hi I notice in the "Sports theme" movie trailer sample--it shows what appear to be 3-4 second clips of a kids soccer game. When I tried to do it, it seems the times are already pre-set, and at incredibly short flashes of time, like 1.07 seconds. It makes it too choppy for my tastes, but I couldn't figure out how to lengthen the shots. Given that the music ends when it ends---maybe there is no way to do this? Or maybe delete the number of scenes?

You cannot copy and paste it. You can copy and paste clips, but the titles, music, transitions, etc. will not copy over.
However, You can go to the Project Library List view and right click on the Project name of the trailer. Select DUPLICATE PROJECT. This will create a copy. Use this to start the complete movie.
Another way: Share your movie using SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose Apple INtermediate Codec. IMport this AIC movie back into iMovie as an Event, and you can drag the whole thing into a new project.

Can't access old ver. 9, 11 & 13 clips after Windows upgrade

In Sept. 2014 I downloaded PE 13 from B&H, worked fine and was able to access old PE9 & PE11 clips. In Dec. 2014 had problems with Wind. 7 Home Ed. and had to upgrade to 8.1 (decided on Pro). Installed 8.1 Pro end of Dec. 2014 and bought PE 13 DVD from B&H to reinstall after I backed up my hard drive. Problem after install of 8/1 Pro and installing PE13 from DVD I can't access and restore old clips from 9, 11 & 13. Tried everything I can think of....any suggestions PLEASE!

With the old computer system, you have Premiere Elements 9, 11, and 13 projects. And, you import media into each and see thumbnails for each of your imports in the project media area of the program (in version 11 and 13, called Project Assets). CORRECT! Please as we go forward I have the PE 13 that was downloaded from B&H and worked perfectly with my previous assets in PE 9 & 11.
When you go to open a project in one of these programs and go to the project media area, do the source media thumbnails still show as before with image in the thumbnail? Or does the thumbnail have a display of circular arrows? If the present as before, can you drag the file from the project media area to the Timeline? If you cannot, it that the problem? NO! (First info is when I set up my new PE 13 after copying all data to a 1T desk drive and loaded Windows 8.1 Pro to replace my Windows 7 Home Edition, I set up the PE 13 and used 64 bit as suggested.) NOW...When I locate my previous Project Assets on the 1T drive they show as "red blocks" with a play arrow in them where previously were thumbnails, but I can't retrieve them. As such there is nothing to add to the timeline. Last night I added to the NEW PE 13 a 22 min program I'm working on. I have all those assets, thumbnails and everything is working as wonderfully as it did in 9, 11 and downloaded 13.
Now in response to a previous question you asked:

the Presets" field there? NO.... I can get to /Computer but there is no QuickTime there! I did download QuickTime yesterday after your suggestion.

When you did the switch from Windows 7 Home to Windows 8.1, did you go 64 bit to 64 bit or 32 bit to 64 bit in operating system? Help me with a way to determine what the bit was on 9 & 11!
Were two separate computers involved or did you manage to change the operating all on one computer? All on one Computer
The major focus for me right now is to make sure I know what file triggers the ".....not have the required compressoer/decompressor (codec)"? And to know that
you are in the Premiere Elements 13 Editor and not the Organizer 13 workspace. Help me understand!!!! I know the difference between "Add Media", "Project Assets", "Organizer", "Editor" and "Workspace". But "Project Assets" and "Workspace" are part of "Editor", so I don't understand your question.
