Can't load about:newtab page in new tab

Hello,
A recent hack attack from Bing has reset the value in browser.newtab.url to their search page. I keep trying to reset it to about:newtab but when I click OK the URL remains the same and my changes are ignored. What can I do about this? I really want my newtab page back.
Thanks

Hi Jonas Grumby,
Thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear that there was difficulty changing that feature in the about:config page.
Please see [[How to fix preferences that won't save]] for more troubleshooting steps. It is possible to reset Firefox to default as well.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
'''Note''': ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.''
*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

I want to disable the 'about:newtab' page when I open a new tab, How i can do it?

That doesn't look like it's related to the subject of this thread.
BTW: Firefox 12+ versions have a browser.newtabpage.enabled pref to disable the about:newtab page.
The default of that pref in Firefox 12 (currently Beta) is false and is true in Firefox 13 (currently Aurora).

I referenced [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/824876?s=make+the+home+page+my+new+tab+page&as=s] and attempted to use about:home for the url but nothing happened.

The referenced link deals with a different matter; the user wanted a blank tab to open but was getting an arbitrary page opening instead.

  • First tab loading the same page as new tab

i've been a heavy tab user since safari came out and now i have encountered something very annoying. i don't want to call it a bug for safari because so far it only happens on one particular site (a messageboard).
    http://mpc-forums.com/
when i'm in the first tab (1) and find an interesting thread, naturally i apple+click on the thread to open a new tab (2) to read. so when i apple+click the thread, it loads and opens it in a new tab BUT at the same time the first tab (1) starts loading this new page as well.
so now i have to go back to the first tab (1) and hit the back arrow or the delete key everytime i apple+click a new thread. the only way i found to work around it is to control+click the link which gives the option "open link in a new tab". this really isn't acceptable for me because after all i am a MAC not PC user!
this is so annoying, as i usually reference all my new tabs from the first tab (1), regardless if it's a messageboard like this one. has this happened to anyone else on another site? as i mentioned before, i don't think this is a safari bug. or is it?

iMac 1 GHz Power PC G4 (3.3) Mac OS X (10.4.4) 7768 MB DDR SDRAM

This is a known bug, and should be reported to Apple through the Safari menu so they know that users care.
I use Saft, a Safari plugin which corrects this bug while adding tons of other features which I now feel I can't live without. You should try it.
    Good luck.

  • Can I have a specific page for new tabs?

What the ''heck''. I download a NEW version of this slow browser and then you ''guys'' change the way a new tab opens.
Any thoughts on ''fixing'' this code?

Go to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config] , find '''browser.newtab.url''' , then '''right-click''' on it select '''modify '''and put your homepage or another page you want.
    thank you

  • When we connect to the internet or visit a new web page, a new tab opens and an alert pops up as follows: "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded"

When we start the internet or navigate to a new page, a new tab opens with the following alert: "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded." We "x" out of it, but a new tab, with the same alert appears. The problem occurs again when we try to navigate to another web page. A real nuisance. We've scanned the computer but found nothing but Adware cookies.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I've been working on this all day!!! I've tried everything I know of and can't get it to load either. Sounds like lots of people are having problems. Here is what I have so far...I have uninstalled EVERYTHING on my pc from apple and reinstalled itunes to no avail. I have tried all sorts of things I've read as fixes online. NOTHING has worked. Here is something interesting that i have noticed though. my main pc (which is the one i have always managed my itunes account with for years) is a 32 bit system running windows 7. Yesterday I installed itunes for the first time on my new netbook which is a 64 bit (windows 7) system and it works just fine. i have three other laptops (all window 7) in my household that are all 64 bit operating systems and ALL have updated to 10.5 and THEY ALL work fine. this is FOUR 64 bit systems ALL updated w/10.5 that work and ONE that is a 32 bit that will not. Can't get any help from apple. their suppot *****! I want to get someone on the **** phone or a live chat but cant. *** APPLE????? please let mw know if you find SOMETHING i can try next. I'm out of ideas and patience!

  • Firefox freezes when I load new pages into new tabs. This started a few weeks ago after I downloaded the latest update to firefox, currently running 7.0.1

After installing the latest update to Firefox a couple of weeks ago, loading new pages into new tabs takes a very very long time IF the page loads at all. I usually have to close the original tab to get the new tabs to load their pages. Sometimes I have to close all Firefox windows and start over to get the page I want to load.
This only started after downloading and installing this new update. I had no problem with new pages/tabs with previous versions.
I have rebooted, run full scans with Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes and McAfee without solving the problem.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
