Can't load App Store.  Can't get OSX 10.6+ without it.

Help!  I can't get the app store to load on my computer, I have tried every suggestion I could find, and none of them work because I don't have 10.6, and I can't get 10.6 if the app store doesn't load! I have 10.5.8 - and finally had to bite the bullet and buy Mountain Lion, which loaded on my macbook just fine - these problems are arising in my imac.

Mac OS X 10.6 is sold in the Apple Online Store, not in the App Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After getting the disc, make a backup of your files, insert the DVD and upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The DVD will install Mac OS X 10.6.3, so open  > Software Update and install 10.6.8, that includes the App Store. After that, open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion.
Before upgrading, check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com When the download finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow the steps to upgrade to Mountain Lion

Can't load App Store on my macBook Pro.  Error is; You cannont open the application "App Store" because it is not supported on this system.  How can I upgrade App Store or download new version?

Problem now resolved as I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.  Seems App Store doesn't like anything previous to 10.6.

  • Can't load app store app

Saw this same question posed earlier, but no solutions
    using (AT&T 5.6) iPhone model MB715LL using version 3.1.3 (7E18) 3G
Had trouble with Zynga's Free version of "Words with Friends" app
I think the WwF version is 4.10 or 4.10.1 but I can't access due to app crash.
For the last 3 words with friends games, at the end of the game (opponent lost) the game does not show board, win or anything but goes into "checking" for moves, then crashes out; back to the "Select app to launch state". At this point I found I can only recover by deleting the app and going to Apple app store and reinstalling the app. It then recognizes phone and recovers games. [I have submitted support request to Zynga.]
This last time it has gone into a hang state when trying to download app from app store. Now I can neither compete download of app or access app store.
I have powered down and rebooted twice.
On wifi: the WwF is waiting and going to the app store gives a permenant "loading"
wifi off: the wordswithfriends waiting app has disappeared, but app store still permenantly "loading"
Re-power down power up: 3G no change, wifi no change (wordswithfriends waiting app still gone, "Loading" still permenant 10 minutes+ )
If I try and acces App store  "account" through the Setting>Store>View Account I get the same indefinite hang.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated

    Top level problem solved.
Went into WiFi and changed network, then app store was able to load and I was able to download WwF. [Can't understand how I could download mail from the network, but not open app store on the first network.]
The WwF (free version) now has the completed game down below.

  • Can't burn cds to library, can't load itunes store, can't recognize ipod

I downloaded the new version of itunes and now it doesn't work very well....
    1. I could not burn the a brand new cd into my library, the process was stuck "connecting to gracenote"
    2. My itunes store will not load
    3. my ipod is not always recognized by the computer
How do I fix these problems?  I tried to reinstall itunes, but that didn't seem to work.

I'm assuming you have already resolved the issue, but if you have not, I would recommend that you uninstall iTunes completely and remove anything related to Apple on your computer including Quicktime. See this post for what you need to remove: http://mismike.blogspot.com/2008/03/itunes-wont-close-on-windows-xp-sp2.html. Good luck.

  • Can' connect to App Store, Can' connect to App Store

Since the new update I am unable to send messages from my iPad. Messages sent from my iPhone show on the iPad but the ones from the iPad go nowhere.

Check iTunes and see if you have a pending/stalled download e.g. Podcast, Books, Music, Movies or iTune U. Finish off the download and you should be able to update.

Are you connected via wifi? If so, and it is an option, try connecting using a ethernet cable. It sometimes seems to help as it can give a more reliable connection for the 5.3gb download.
If you do manage to download it you may want to make a copy of the installer file - which gets downloaded to the Applications folder - before running it as it self-deletes on successful installation. It may save you another monster download in the future.

  • If I buy Lion from apps store can I install it on all the Macs I own?

If I buy Lion from apps store can I install it on all the Macs I own?

Yes. Each one needs to have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed in order to re-download from the App Store unless you make your own USB flash drive installer:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

  • If I buy Lion in the app store, can I ''reset'' my whole macbook (instead of doing this with the cd that comes with the macbook)?

If I buy Lion in the app store, can I ''reset'' my whole macbook (instead of doing this with the cd that comes with the macbook)?
With ''reset'' I mean, repair because it is from 2007 and so slow. So that all the data and programmes are gone and I can start over with Lion!?

You have a choice. You can start by erasing the drive and reinstalling Snow Leopard prior to purchasing and downloading the Lion installer. Or you can purchase and download the installer, save the Lion installer, create a bootable Lion USB flash drive installer, boot from the Lion installer, erase the hard drive, and install Lion. I would suggest the second choice:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button or quit the installer.
Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.

    To install Lion from scratch:
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
Boot From Lion USB Flash Drive:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears. Select the icon for the USB flash drive then click on the arrow button below the icon.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
