Can't load lightroom 5

first post so i apologise if its in the wrong community. I've inserted the disc, followed the instruction. get to install, click on install. it then says 'preparing to install' with the loading bar underneath, and thats it. it doesn't load at all. it doesn't move. I've got yosemite, 10.10.1
thanks for your help in advance

OS x 10.10.3.
Yes, lightroom cc (2015) is listed in the Creative cloud as installed.
When I click on the app in the Creative cloud drop down the Lightroom app appears briefly in the dock, then the application manager appears and the lightroom icon disappears. After clicking the "continue trial" button in the application manager it closes and lightroom does not open.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, but no change.

  • Can't load lightroom trial after upgrading from 5 to CC.

I was half way through my lightroom 5 trial when I upgraded to lightroom CC. the application manager still comes up asking if I want to continue my trial, but when I click on that it doesn't load lightroom.
I have completely uninstalled both versions (manually for 5, as per the instruction on the Adobe site) and with the uninstaller for CC, and then reinstalled lightroom CC, but still it won't load.
Does anyone else have this problem?

  • Installed Lightroom with required serial number and had PC scrubbed due to virus.  Now I can't find sn so can't load lightroom again.

I may have had an insert with disk when purchased but it was over a year ago and I am unable to locate.  I have original packaging and disk.  Can you help me?

Try this: Find your serial number quickly..

Have you tried logging out of your CC desktop app, then logging back in again? Quit/Restart won't work, but logging out and back in should. See here: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/sign-in-out-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html

Download the Adobe DNG Converter (and install it, and run it...).

  • After loading lightroom 5 can i remove lightroom 4

Just finished loading lightroom 5 onto my mac , was wondering do i have to still have to have lightroom 4 installed or can i now uninstall it?

Feel free to uninstall. It probably wouldn't hurt to record your serial number in case you ever want or need to download a 4.x version and run it.

  • Can you still down load Lightroom 3?

I currently have Lightroom 3 which I'm happy using and don't want to upgrade to version 4 at the moment.  Previously I've have it loaded on my PC.  I'm just about to buy a MacBook Air which doesn't have a CD drive.  2 questions: Can I use my lightroom on a Mac even though I've previosuly installed it on a PC? Can I download Lightroom 3 from the Adobe website as I can't see it listed anywhere?  I have my serial number.
    Thanks

The link for LR 3.6 is on that page but you have to scroll about 2/3rds down to find it.

  • How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp

How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external HD from the mbp, I get the following pop up window: The disk "external hard drive A" couldn't be ejected because "Lightroom" is using it. Quit that application and try to eject this disk again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog screen pops up but doesn't list my external hard drive A as a choice.
I've reviewed Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart Previews Lightroom 5 web page and still haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Your internal HDD. by default, is named 'Macintosh HD'. From what information you supplied, it looks like there is already a Lightroom catalog installed on you local (internal) HDD using the standard naming convention Adobe uses as well as a Lightroom catalog on your external drive which you created. To be sure of which catalog Lightroom is loading when it starts up, To do this, start Lightroom as you normally would. After it starts, select the Lightroom menu item, then select the Catalog Preferences item and finally, navigate to the General tab. The Location information will tell you exactly what catalog Lightroom is opening by default. This will likely be the Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog on your external HDD. Once that is confirmed, you are ready to proceed. As an additional test/verification, you can shut down Lightroom and, this time, start Lightroom while holding down the ALT/OPTION key. This will cause Lightroom to pause and display a screen which will allow you to chose a different catalog to open. Navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file. When Lightroom comes up, there should be no previews or folders as this catalog should be empty. Now you can be certain which catalog is being used and which catalog has all your data and you are ready to migrate your current catalog. Shut down Lightroom.
To migrate your current catalog, use Finder to locate your Photography Mac Book Pro Versions folder on your external drive. Select the folder and select COPY from the context menu. Next, use Finder to navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder on you internal HDD. You can start at the Macintosh HD level and work your way down by opening each level (Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures). Select the /Pictures folder and then select PASTE... from the context menu. When the COPY/PASTE is complete, you should see the following files on the Macintosh HD:
    Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/ and
Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions
The Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder will contain the empty default catalog the Adobe created when Lightroom was installed and Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions will contain a copy of the catalog you created on your external HDD.
You are almost done now. Make sure your external drive is still attached for this step. Restart Lightroom using the ALT/OPTION key again. When the Select Catalog screen appears, select the Choose a Different Catalog button (lower left side). When you do, a Finder window will open to allow you to navigate to a catalog of your choosing. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions and select the file Photography Mac Book Pro Version.lrcat. This is the copy you just created. Select the Open button and Lightroom should start. You should see all of your previews and settings just as before. Also, in the left hand panel, all of your folder should show up and none of them should be dimmed and none of your previews should display a small exclamation point badge. Either a dimmed folder name or an exclamation point badge indicates that Lightroom can't find the associated image file. If everything looks good, go to the Lightroom menu, select Preferences and then select the General tab. Under Default Catalog, select an option to either load the LAST catalog opened or select the Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog from the drop down. Shut down Lightroom and then restart it normally. This time, when Lightroom starts, you should be viewing the new copy of your catalog. You can confirm this by looking at the General tab on the Catalog Preferences screen (Lightroom/Catalog Preferences menu items). Shut down Lightroom once again and this time, eject your external drive before restarting. This time, your folders in the left hand panel will be dimmed but you should be able to work with your smart previews. If Lightroom should display a Select Catalog screen with the external drive detached, double check your settings as it indicates Lightroom is still looking at the copy of the catalog on the external drive rather than the new copy you made.
Finally, if you are seeing dimmed folders and/or exclamation point badges with the external drive attached, this indicates a problem. You can select any folder and select Update Folder Location from the context menu. This will allow you to navigate to the copy on the external drive and select it. Lightroom will then update the catalog (select to synchronize the content). This will not only clear the dimmed folder problem but also remove the exclamation point badges for all photos in that missing folder. However, it may indicate that not all went well with the copy of the catalog so make sure to verify all went well. You can use the Get Info option on the two folders. You should see the same number of files/folders for both the copy on the internal drive as well as on the external drive but you can't rely on the byte count because of the possibility of differences between the geometry of the two drives. Hope this all helps!

I was running Lightroom 3.6 with the OS Windows XP (Sp3). The whole system crashed, I am unable to recover the serial number. I then upgraded my OS to Windows 7 (x64) and down loaded Lightroom 4.4, I wanted to buy a licence so I then upgraded to Lightroom 5, now when I try to register I am asked for the original licence/serial number. Where do I go from here??????

If you upgraded from 3.6 to 5 (you didn't indicate buying 4.4) then you will need the serial number from 3.6 in order to be able to use 5.  If you did not keep a record of it there is a chance it might be available thru your Adobe account online, but if not, there is likely not much you can do except to return the upgrade and purchase a full version.  Try contacting support using chat and explain your situation to see if they can help.

If you did purchase 4.4 then that should be sufficient to use to activate 5.
I can never be sure what goes on with Lightroom, and the Adobe site (even when it works properly) makes finding information about products difficult these days so I am at a loss to confirm anything I say.

  • Often can't open Lightroom 3 after going from Leopard to Snow Leopard with out rebooting system...

Ever since I upgraded to snow leopard a month ago or more it seems I can't open Lightroom when I'm ready to run the program without having to restart my computer. This is happening on both my macbook and my new mac mini. I keep my Lightroom catalog on an external hard drive so I can access it from either computer and have an alias stored on both computers that used to open my program when my external was plugged in and ready. I've also noticed since upgrading I'm unable to upload photos from my memory card reader without a lot of fussing around - often needing to reboot to get the import to happen in Lightroom, or just uploading my photos to my desktop without having Lightroom open, then once they're finished uploading I can import and move them into my Lightroom 3 program/catalog/photo storage. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Or what I might need to do to fix these problems?

    I think I would look at if you have the latest Parallels;
    clone and backup your system and files before doing anything;
boot off 2nd hard drive and run Apple First Aid + (Disk Warrior or DG3 or TechTool Pro 5).
Always be prepared to be able to restore your system to prior point, that could even mean keeping 10.6.4 around for a month until you know 10.6.5 and 3rd party software and drivers all play nice together.
Bottom line: invest in two backup sets and methods; a copy of SuperDuper or CCC; and Disk Warrior.
I've used VBox, Fusion but not Parallels, plus Windows XP Mode, VHDs and VMs under Windows Vista/7.
I'd go back to ERASE and INSTALL and then do all your updates, then start on 3rd party with main packages first (CS5 and others). Off load, save, backup everything and anything you might need first of course.
Last but actually #1: a small 30GB OS X 10.6.5 drive volume (can take the 30GB from one of your backup drive is fine) so you can run the latest DU plus other system maintenance (DVDs get old, out of date, slow to boot, can't use Finder and other programs).

  • Clean install Yosemite - can't transfer Lightroom to new system - Creative Cloud says I have it, other progs fine.

    Hi Everyone
I've done a clean install of Yosemite on another hardrive - (Creative Cloud member) re-loading of all other software has worked fine.
Creative Cloud loader says I have Lightroom and it's uptodate - I haven't downloaded it onto the new system yet (clicking icon goes through basic install) - it wants a a serial number, I have checked on the Mavericks system and the last 4 digits are blanked.
I have signed out of Creative Cloud on Mavericks - returning to Yosemite, no change to Lightroom status.
Can anyone help with this situation - can't Uninstall Lightroom on old system, same in Yosemite, if I try to boot it from other drive/system (Mavericks) from Yosemite Trial version or serial number request, stuck with software I've rented and can't use.
    Adrian CB

    Hello Rikk
    Many thanks for your reply.
Just to make it clear - I have not installed Lightroom 5 on the Yosemite system, it is only on the other hardrive and Mavericks. I have checked what is on Yosemite releating to Lightroom - there are 2 files for L5, one is in System - Library - App Support - Adobe, this file is a serial no. reference, the other is in User - Library - App Support - Adobe, these are a set of Folders for Presets, Sets & galleries etc..
From the CCloud loader Lightroom 5 will not allow Uninstall, there is nothing (program) to uninstall - it has occurred to remove the files I have mentioned to another drive and see if CCloud loader finally acknowledges it is not on the Yosemite system.
It does seem that these files are indicating to the CC loader prog that it is on Yosemite - so, if I removed the files - more particularly the serial number file - logged out of CCloud, logged back in and hope Lightroom is available to download. Do I continue if the download is for trial/serial number version - and then put back the serial number file to have it usable?
    Regards Adrian CB

  • Loading Lightroom 4 on a MacBook Pro without CD player

I have just rec'd Lightroom 4 from B&H for my MacBook Pro which has no CD player. How do load Lightroom 4 on the MacBook Pro? Can I copy the CD (on another PC) to a Flash Drive USB Memory card and then use this USB card to load up the MacBook Pro?
    Thanks

Yes, you can. Just make sure that "PC" is actually a Mac or the resource tree may get damaghed and the DMG loses its magic...
