Can't load OS or format - Broken/Happy folder at startup

My wife has a powerbook g4 15" and last night she was coping some of her files to an external hdd and when doing so moved or deleted (I'm not sure) some system and library files. Now when you try to boot it goes straight to a gray screen with a broken/happy folder. I tried formatting from a usb external hdd (tiger and leopard) but couldn't get it to show. I don't think it will boot from usb. So I tried to load Leopard (it is on a DVD+R DL) but the cd drive spits it out. So I guess it can't read +R DL discs. I tried formatting from my Tiger DVD-R but still spits it out. I have also tried formatting from my Tiger CDs (4 CD-R's), but it still spits them out. I have tried every startup shortcut. The startup manager comes up, but it is blank (doesn't even show a harddrive). The only thing I can get to is Open Firmware. We had no problems with this computer till last night. We have had no problems with the cd drive before either.

if you were just moving docs, those should be stored in the home folders, never in the system folders... I've seen drives do this - when they totally die on you!

PowerPC Macs cannot boot from usb, but they can from firewire drives.

Why are you trying to use burned copies? I suggest you use or pick up an orignal disk your machine can boot. check out www.everymac.com if you are unsure what model or disk you need. if say, your machine shipped with 10.4.3 installed & your disc is 10.4.0, it won't boot.
The only thing I can get to is Open Firmware. We had no problems with this computer till last night. We have had no problems with the cd drive before either.
I ran into this situation on my 15" Powerbook - the drive messed up & died to the point that it totally crashed the bus when you booted the machine. Once the tech pulled my broken drive, it would boot up & run the disc, no problems.
Try the PRAM (hold Command Option P R at startup until you hear it re-chime) & PMU resets (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431) to see if that helps trying to boot from an original OS disc.

Load all brushes in brush preset folder at startup

I'm wondering if this is possible or if there is a better solution for what I'm trying to do.
What I need to do is have a central repository of brushes or brush sets. I'll create a symlink inside the brushes folder to a space in the local drive. When photoshop is launched, we have scripts in place that will download the newest version of the repository folder to that local drive. (the users do not have permissions for the program files brushes folder) Is there a way to have photoshop load all the brushes automatically without a user having to select a set of brushes and save them?
I'm thinking also maybe there is a corresponding file that holds data for all the sets of brushes. Perhaps I could have a centralized version of this file that I could have downloaded.
We are using photoshop cs5 on a windows environment.

Hmm the advice has been not to use referenced libraries - you ignored and did it anyway and you find the advise not helpful
Furthermore the advice is that if you choose to use a referenced library that you assure that the path never changes - you also choose to ignore that advice and do it anyway - and you blame the peopson trying to help you
once again - you have one choice - change the file names back and put the files back in the exact same place - and again you are totally ignoring the advice and instead name calling and attacking the person giving you advice
Maybe life would be easier if you followed advice rather than ignoring it and then complaining that things no longer work
change the name back and you will be fine until the next problem you hit that is caused by choosing a referenced library

Can we load data using .xls in user define format(without using default template)

I'm new bee to FDM. Part of HFM support i use FDM to load flatfile data. Just has a bit more knowledge than end user.
Requirement is that i need to load data from MS excel to Planning application via FDM.
Previously application is in Excel(Macro driven) and upstream(data) is also in Excel(multi tab).
As of my knowledge data can be loaded from .csv file(Excel save as CSV) with single tab.
Could you please let me know possibilities to load data from .xls(.xlsx) to FDM.

If you want to load data using Excel, utilising FDM's out-of-the-box functionality you will have to use one of the templates supplied i.e. Excel Trial Balance or Excel Multi-load template.

Can't load more than one photo to new 80 GB IPod

Hello All,
I have a new 80 GB IPod and have successfully loaded one low res jpg photo but that's all I can load. I select my named folder in the photo tab window and hit "apply" and nothing happens. I've tried dragging and dropping the photos (to the photo window and to my IPod icon in the ITunes window on the left ) and that doesn't work. All my photos are small, 72 dpi jpgs. I read the answers to another user with the same question but did not find a solution.

How can I load a .pst file to an instrument in logic express 9?

I have some instruments plug-in settings from my old computer that I used with logic, and I want to load them into logic so I can use them on the computer I moved them to. On any instrument I try (ES1, ES2, EXS24 and the rest) it won't allow me to load the files (.pst files) and I know I should be able to. Am I just going about it wrong or using the wrong instrument? How can I load these files so that I can use the instruments again?

Pages is not in a format compatible for what you want to do.
After you save a a Pages document, go to File > Export > and choose either Word or Pdf format. You can also choose RTF or PlainText too. Then you can email to yourself or others.

Whwn I want to close Firefox 9.x , a pop-up appears with the message: "Can't load resource file ......" . First I have to close this pop-up, then Firefox is closed. Also with other versions of Firefox I had this problem.

i deleted the rdf and now the first window only (and any tabs in it) are maximised. i found this in the rdf

i tried changing normal to maximised; no effect. either i need also to change the numbers (to match a maximised window) or ff ignores this. i want to be able to open different sites in different windows, and not have to maximise them manually. ff never used to be broken, why break this? what possible security flaw was fixed by screwing up ff to never open maximised unless u hack it or delete certain config files?

Can't load leopard on an external drive

I am having some serious trouble trying to load leopard on an external drive. I have a 1TB drive on my MBP and it is partitioned with Mavericks and Leopard. I am tired of Mavericks hanging up and I am goint to do a clean install like I did on my Mac Pro.
I have a mini 500GB FW drive that I put mavericks on and migrated my data. On the leopard partition I have a few older programs and I want to migrate that partitition to a 320FW external drive. That way I have all my data, can wipe my 1TB drive, partition it, load mavericks and leapord and migrate from the FQW Drives.
When I put in my disc for leopard, Mavericks won't allow me to load it. I tried the Command R function with start up and I can't load leopard on that drive. I get a message saying I can't do that. I have also tried to copy the leopard disk over to the 320 GB FW HD and I get permission errors.
I really need to be able to use leopard for an older program that takes panasonic p2 cards.
Is there anything I am overlooking or missing? Any tricks to make this work?

Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
         with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
         After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
         a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
         button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
         After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
         size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
         partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
         and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
         (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
         with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
         Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
         username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
         Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
         install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
         Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Aperture: After changed the file name in Finder Aperture can't load the referenced file anymore

After I've changed the file name/format in Finder Aperture can't load/relink to the referenced file anymore. For some reasons I don't like to reimport the file.

As you told, the command "Locate Referenced File" doesn't work, if the filename doen't match exactly. And the filenames should keep their new names.
"Locate Referenced File" will be able to reconnect one file at a time, if you direct Aperture to the matching file in the Loate Referenced File dialog, but it will not be able to recognise the other matching referenced files and to reconnect them all at once with the "Reconnect All" button.
It will be a lot of work to reconnect the one by one. Usually it is much easier to rename the original master files using Metadata > Batch change in Aperture than to try to do that in the Finder.

I don't believe you can in its native format. However, you can certainly add a stereo mix or individual audio tracks from an an Audition session into GB (just as you would add any *standard* audio file to GB).

Runtime engine can't load vi with lvdatetimerec.ctl

i have trouble with TS 3.5 / LV 11.0
I programmed a small vi that calculates the time difference between now and a time stamp. To pass the timestamp from Teststand i use a Control (lvdatetimerec.ctl) and the matching VIs to do the task.
Unfortunally i can't load the vi into Teststand using the Runtime Engine. I get the message "Unable to load VI "xx.vi" with the Run-Time Engine. It is possible that the version of the VI or one of its subVIs is not the same as the ..."
It is certainly the same and there is no problem until i include a constant or control of that type.
Do anybody have an idea?

Try to recompile your vi hierarchy in LabVIEW (hold Ctrl and click Run), then save it, then try again in TestStand with LabVIEW runtime.
Runtime engine does not support dynamic compiling, this vi may looks fine in LabVIEW, but TestStand will complain that it is broken.

If you have an ipod touch, then you should post in the ipod touch forum.
The ipod touch can read .pdf files.
The only apps you can download on an ipod touch are from the app store.
If you don't have an ipod touch, then I don't think you can do this at all.

PSE7 can't load NEF into organizer but can edit

I've installed the ACR 5.5 update so I can work with images from my new Nikon D300s in PSE7. However, I can't load NEF images into the organizer. The strange things is I can open them in the editor which brings up ACR just fine.

This usually happens when you don't remove the old ACR plug-in from the File Formats folder.
Renaming the old plug-in doesn't work. Moving the old plug-in to a subfolder of File Formats also doesn't work.

It shouldn't need formatting. That should have been done to make the RAID. If you need to erase the RAID:
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select the RAID volume you wish to format from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
