Can't locate 1270 images just imported!

I just downloaded 1270 images from my Canon digital camera via a cable.  I imported them into iPhoto, which took a while.  When the import completed, it asked me if I wanted to save the images on the camera or delete them from the camera.  I chose to delete them.  After that step, iPhoto automatically sorted the imported images by date.  I viewed several of the newly imported photos to be sure things were all there, & it appeared to be functioning normally.  Then I closed the app, closed all open apps, disconnected the camera cable & shut down my Macbook.
The next day I started my Macbook & opened iPhoto so that I could edit my newly imported photos.  However, there were no new images!  In "Events" where the images had been automatically sorted the night before, there were dates shown with a palm tree icon, but there were no photos for those dates.  When I went to "Last Import", the photos shown were from the import prior to the 1270 images.  I can't figure out where all of my new photos went!  PLEASE HELP ME FIND THEM!!!!!

If you're unable to locate the photos in your library  you can try using a image file recovery app to recover the video files from your camera's memory card.  I've used  MediaRECOVER successfully a couple of time.  You can run it in demo mode to make sure it can recover the files you need before you purchase it.
In the future never let  iPhoto delete from the camera.  Always check the library carefully, i.e. closing and opening to verify that the files are safely in the library before deleting from the camera.  It's safer to have the camera reformat the memory card than let iPhoto do the deletion.
Another workflow one might follow is to use a card reader to upload the files to a folder on the Desktop to assure the files are safely on the hard drive.  Then import into iPhoto and verify a successful import.  Then delete the folder from the desktop and reformat the memory card with the camera.

  • Can you filter/search images before importing them?

Is there a way to filter images before importing them in Lightroom?
    Scenario
I work with an extensive image collection stored on a server. The images contain a full set of metadata, including keywords and more. When I work on a specific project, I import the images into a Lightroom collection. That way I can easily review, rate and add additional keywords to those best-of images.
The challenge is that the images I want to add are from numerous folders. Plus, I often only want to add some images from those folders (not the entire folder). This collection process can be very time consuming -- manually locating the images and checking/unchecking the ones I want and repeating the process for the different folders the images reside in.
The process could be greatly simplified (and a lot faster) if I could filter/search for images that contain key words or other metadata to find the full set of images I want to import.
The key is that I’m not using a workflow to simply import all images from a memory card or download folder. I’m working from a large collection of existing images and want to import a subset of those images.
    Thanks in advance.

No, you cannot filter or search images before importing them.
But immediatley after import the images are automatically displayed in <Previous Import>.
They will be displayed there until you import another set of images.
While displayed in <Previous Import> they can be searched and filtered.

  • How can I batch compress images on import

    Hi All,
This might not be the right place for this question; if so, apologies in advance.
Since moving 100% to mac, I've been experiencing a workflow problem, and I can't seem to find anything in iPhoto or Automator to help me out.
My camera takes JPG photos with a fixed file size. That is, all of the images are exactly the same file size, no matter what the image is of. It turns out that this is a huge waste of disk space. To get around this on my windows machine, I used to do the following:
    1. Import images to temp folder on my computer.
    2. Use irfanview to batch save all of the images to a different folder, with 90% jpg compression.
    3. Import the resulting files into Picassa.
Doing this would sometimes reduce an image size from the default 4mb to as small as 300kb (average about 800-1200 kb), and made a really big difference to my disk space.
I would like to find something similar on my Mac, but I've been unable to.
All I want to do is to open each image and save it with a predetermined level of compression. And, I'd like to do this either to the photos that are already imported into iPhoto, or to photos before they are imported.
I thought that automator might be able to help, but I cannot find a simple 'save with XX compression' command anywhere (although I can find tasks to import photos to the computer, and then to iPhoto, so it's mostly there).
I can't find any functionality within iPhoto itself to handle this problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You do know that when you compress the jpgs to the 90% level you're reducing the image quality of the file considerably, right? That being said, the only way to do what you want is what you did on the darkside, compress before importing into iPhoto.
There are some resizing apps than you can set to just compress the quality level and leave the pixel dimension alone. Renamer4Mac is one. You can find more by searching at VersionTracker.com for "resize".
What with the large HDs that come in the Macs and the availability of large, inexpensive external HDs, resizing before importing into iPhoto is considered by many to be penny wise but pound foolish.

  • Can't locate RAW images in Originals folder

    I shoot in RAW+JPEG.
Well, I uploaded two batches of photos (two separate "Events" in iPhoto) a couple of months ago and am now looking to edit them in Lightroom. In iPhoto, these "Events" show both the JPEG and the Nikon RAW image. Each photo is labeled accordingly in the Information box.
However, when I look in the iPhoto Library packages, these two events do not show up in the "Originals" folder. They only show up in the "Modified" folder, and only as JPEGs! Where have my originals gone??
All of my other RAW images are present in the "Originals" folder. It seems as though only my last two uploads are missing.
    Help!

What you're viewing in iPhoto are jpgs that iPhoto created for viewing the image. You're not looking at the the raw file itself.
To determine if you have any raw files in your library search in spotlight for the extension of your raw files. Like ".cr2" or whatever it is. If you don't get any hits that will indicate that the raw files have been removed from the hard drive.
Are you using a managed or referenced library?
If you're running a reference library is there any chance it could have been a managed library when the raw files were imported. That would explain having the jpg file for viewing and no raw files.
I would also download and use Find Any File to search for the file extension. FAF can search inside packages and areas of the hard drive that spotlight can't.

  • Can't locate master images

I can plainly see the photo in a folder I want to export but I get the message that Aperture cannot locate the master image...I have checked both external hard drives and that folder doesn't exist.
Is there any way I can export or copy this one image...

I don't get it....I used the "relocate masters" tool to put all my images on one hard drive. I created a folder on my new 2TB drive and "relocated" all the masters to this folder...
Okay, so when I try to edit an image I have relocated, with the drive still plugged in, I get the message that master images cannot be located....
This is getting a little nuts...

  • How can i change the image just above password entry on login window

I recently discovered that the image on my login window, right above where I type my password, has changed. It used to be the photo the computer took of me when I first set up my MacBook Pro. Now for some reason, the image has changed to a baseball! How do I change this?

It's something you set up when you made your user profile. You selected the OS version to be displayed in your profile. It's what we see in your original topic post:

I don't know if you see that yourself of if see mine, for example.

  • Tomcat-4.0.2 can not locate Java Class

I have an application which runs fine under Tomcat-3.x. Now I am trying to run under Tomcat-4.0.2, right after I login to my application (As you can see the new Tomcat does find my application's index.html fine), I got an error:
Apache Tomcat/4.0.2 - HTTP Status 500 - Internal Server Error
    type Exception report
    message Internal Server Error
description The server encountered an internal error (Internal Server Error) that prevented it from fulfilling this request.

    boolean auth=Utility.ldapAuthenticate(userEmail,password);
It looks Tomcat can not find the Utility class, even though it is under usual place: WEB-INF/classes.
Now, I even copies all the directory structures into $CATALINA_HOME\webapps, still no luck.
    I am running on W2K.
Can anyone shed me some light? Thanks.

Oh! I can do it now.
Just import the class you want...
    <%@page import="Utilities" %>
and put that class in WEB-INF/classes

I recently switched to Aperture. When I opened an image I imported from iPhoto, I don't have an option to edit it. Top of "Adjustments" tab says "image offline". How can I adjust Aperture so I can make adjustment to my iPhoto images?

I never tried importing from the iPhoto library as referenced images. I wonder if Aperture can access images stored in an iPhoto library package?  Even if it would work, it sounds like a bad thing to do.
You might consider starting over and this time have Aperture manage the images.  That will copy them to the Aperture library, leaving the iPhoto library untouched. This assumes you have sufficient space to make a complete copy of all the images in your iPhoto library plus another copy of each image that Aperture makes as the preview image. You can then back up your iPhoto library (two backup copies, just to be sure) then remove it from your hard drive when you start getting too low on space.  As I write this I don't know where your iPhoto or Aperture libraries are/will be located so I'm assuming you have them on your HD.

  • IPhoto '08 shows all photos, but can't locate images in Finder

I just bought a MacBook and did an "Import to Library" from my backup external drive. All photos now appear in iPhoto including some that I just imported last night from my camera. The only problem is, I can't find the folder that actually contains all of the pictures. When I click on "Pictures" in my home folder then the iPhoto icon, iPhoto opens. Where is the folder with the actual images?

    dave-m:
The photos are in the iPhoto LIbrary package in the Pictures file. SeeTD's treatis on file access. It describes three ways to access the image files.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I just imported some images into a folder in LR 2.6 (first time) & they don't show.

I just upgraded from LR 1.x to 2.6.  I imported some of my RAW images into a specific folder (800 of them) and they showed up fine, right where I wanted them. I then proceeded to download another 100+ RAW images from a different folder into the same folder in LR.  The folder on the left side tells me there are 921 photos in that folder, but I can only see the last 100 that I have imported.  Why can't I see the previous imports into that same folder?  Both the folder and subfolder tells me I have 921 images. Where are the other 800? Thanks!

This is normal behaviour: When you import you only see the imported photos , even when these are added to a existing folder.
When after importing you click on that folder you will see them all.

  • Why can't I edit the photos I just imported from a usb flash drive?

Why Can't I edit the photos I just imported from a usb flash drive? I scanned them into a desktop pc, copied them onto a flash drive, imported them into iphoto. Once I remove the flash drive I'm unable to edit them. Says it can't find the original...or something like that. I appreciate any help you can give me! Trying to get a slide show ready for a funeral, therefore I have an approaching deadline, eek!

Copy the photos from the drive to your desktop import then again and delete the images. If the same mistake appears, there is something wrong with your import settings into iPhoto - > may be you didn't imported the original files to your iphoto library.
