Can't locate downloaded files

I cannot find some files that I have downloaded, some audio and video files (from emusic.com & megaupload.com). I have them set to go straight to my Downloads folder but they are not showing up, even after I see them successfully download in the download list bar. I've searched for the files by name as well. Any ideas?

HI,
I understand you have Safari / Preferences set to go to the Downloads folder. The Downloads folder can be accessed in several different locations. One from the Safari menu bar, Window/Downloads and two, from a Finder window.
Check both places just in case.
Since eMusic is compatible with iTunes, check your iTunes library. And if you are using the free trial, could that have expired?
One other idea. From the Safari menu bar select Window / Downloads or press OptionCommandL. Control or right click the the downloaded file and choose Show In Finder.

The files that weren't inside the media folder on the original machine need to be copied over to exactly the same paths as they had on the source machine. See this thread for an ongoing discussion of a similar problem. See also this post on migrating the iTunes library.

I just converted wav to mp3, but now I can't locate the files.

make sure you have the exact path written correctly. If you can, show what the filename is in itunes, and the filename when you are looking at the song files (i.e. through my comuter). Make sure these are the same, and that they are all usable itunes formats.

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

How can I put download file back on dock?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you want to put a folder in the Dock, open a Finder window and drag the folder to the right part of the Dock. In this case, you want to put the Downloads folder in the Dock again, so open a Finder window and drag Downloads from the Finder sidebar to the right part of the Dock

  • TS1584 I had my iTunes libray on my old PC, just transferred to my new PC, downloaded iTunes, and my library is there, but can't play songs, says can't locate original files?

I had my iTunes library on my old Dell Inspiron, transferred all info to my new HP Pavilion PC, downloaded iTunes and my library is there, but when I try to play songs, it says can't play because can't locate the original files...how can I activate the songs to play?  The iTunes library is also in my Windows media file, and the songs will play in there, but I set iTunes as my default music manager and want the songs activated in my iTunes library so I can play them and sync my iPod.  Help?  Thanks.

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • I can no longer download files. The download manager comes up and indicates file is downloading, but it isn't.

I can't download any files. The download window appears and indicates file is downloading, but it doesn't. I had to open IE to download latest version of Firefox. I have reset all download values to default. I have changed the location of file downloads and I've cleared the download manager.

You can find the original download location if you paste the code posted in this link in the Code field in the Error Console and click the Evaluate button.
    *Firefox/Tools > Web Development > Error Console
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/User:Dickvl/JavaScript_Error_Console#Download_Manager
That will give a pop-up with data about the currently selected file in the Download Manager window.<br />
That same data appears as a tooltip if you hover the icon at the left side of an entry in the Download Manager.
If the files are missing in that location then there must be some software running that deleted the files.
Did you disable the virus check initiated by Firefox as well?

    Hello there, papillondefer.
When attempting to locate missing content in iTunes, the following Knowledge Base article offers up some great recommendations:
iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads - Apple Support
    Start with these steps first:
Follow these steps to locate your missing iTunes media:
    Resume any interrupted downloads.
Choose iTunes > Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Click Resume if any downloads are listed as unfinished. Learn more about how to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads.
Check your iTunes media folder. For Mac OS X
    Open Finder.
From the Side Bar, click your Home folder (the folder named after your user account).
Go to Music > iTunes > iTunes Media.
You may need to go to Music > iTunes > iTunes Music if the iTunes Media folder is empty.
Open the corresponding folder for the file type you're looking for. The contents of the folder will be listed in alphabetical order. Depending on the folder, the files will be sorted by artist, author, or title.
If you couldn't find your lost media in the iTunes Media folder, check your preferences in iTunes to see if your media is in another location.
Check your Trash (Mac) or Recycle Bin (Windows). If you find any of your missing items, you can add them to your iTunes library.
Mac OS X: Control-click (or right-click) the item and choose Put Back.
Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: Right-click the item and choose Restore.
Windows XP: Right-click the item and choose Restore.
If your media doesn't reappear in your iTunes library after you restore the item, locate the restored file in your iTunes Media folder and drag the item into your iTunes library window.
If you still can't locate the media, the article offers more options under "Still can't find your media?".
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • ITunes can't locate music files

Any music that was copied into my iTunes music folder cannot be located. Anytime that I try to play the file from iTunes, it shows an error message, requests that I locate the file, and then proceeds to tell me that I need to format my hard drive. When I try to open my iTunes music folder directly, my computer freezes and then after 10 minutes informs me that my hard drive needs to be formatted. I never had this problem until I downloaded the new version of iTunes. This is only going on with music I have copied into my iTunes folder, which is all the CDs I have or had. Many of these CDs I no longer physically have. I have tried to use a previous iTunes library to fix the problem. I have also moved my preferences files to the desktop as suggested in another thread, but neither have worked. I am not having any other problems with my computer that would encourage me to format my hard drive besides this issue. I would appreciate any help possible with this predicament.

  • ITunes Can't Locate Original File - 7.7 error?

hoping someone out there can help me....
basically, I have 2 external hard drives. the first one is a 160GB hard drive, the second one is a 250GB hard drive. initially I had all of my music on the 160GB, but when it got too full I copied everything over on the 250GB drive, so I could add more music to it. everything's been working fine for 2 years on the 250GB drive until this weekend when all of the sudden, iTunes is now looking for the music on the old drive again, saying that it can't find the original file. the songs are all on the new drive, but for some reason it will only look for them on the old one. So - if I have BOTH drives on, everything works fine. If I turn the old drive off, iTunes can't locate 3/4 of my music. it's frustrating because all of the old stuff is on the new drive but iTunes won't see it. I've even tried copying some of the stuff from the old drive onto the new drive and itunes still seems to be looking for it the old drive even when I change the pathway to the new drive in the general preferences.
the only thing I can think of is:
    1) buy a new larger drive and cut and paste everything onto it. not sure that that would fix it.
    2) reinstall itunes, but I'm afraid of losing my settings and all of the movies,
    apps, games I've bought etc.
anyone have any advice? is it a library file issue?

    Yeah,
I've upgraded to 7.7 and have a large library of tracks on an external drive. I added them manually to the library - rather tedious, it took me about 3 days!
I was careful to choose the iTunes folder in the correct location and I chose to uncheck the "keep iTunes organised" box as it messes up where things are kept. I'm now starting to get ! against about 25% of the library. I really don't want to manually re-direct it to about 5,000 tracks. Is there any way this can be done en masse or is this a 7.7 bug?
This is a real pain. Can anyone help?

  • Can't locate Referenced Files in Aperture 3

All my photo master files are in separate directories on a NAS (network attached storage; 4x1Tb) and I import Projects from that into Aperture on my IMac.  I migrated my MAC Aperture Libraries to a separate external drive and lost some of the references to the Master.  I can reconnect some Projects to the masters on my NAS, but not all.  Some projects won't reconnect using  Locate Referenced Files.  I can find the files and match the photos and Aperture looks like it reconnected, but when I look at the separate images, I get "File not found."  I know the original photos are on my NAS because I can see them using a separate PC hooked into it, but can't seem to complete making the link to the master.  My intent is to move all masters into my Aperture Library because I can't stand losing photos this way anymore, but I need help making that link.  Any ideas what's happening and what to do.
Even though I have the originals on my NAS, all my processed versions (4 and 5* photos) are in my Aperture Library and I hate to lose those.
Update: I seem to be able to connect one photo at a time, but selecting an entire set of Project photos and doing "connect all" doesn't seem to be working.  I have thousands of photos and working one at a time is impossible.
    How can I get help?
    <Email Edited By Host>

I migrated my MAC Aperture Libraries to a separate external drive and lost some of the references to the Master.
How is your NAS formatted, where your original masters are stored? And how is the external drive formatted that holds your Aperture library?
Your Aperture library needs to be on a drive formatted Mac OS X extended, Journaled. If the drive should not have that formatting, move the Aperture library to disk with the coorrect format.
If you cannot reconnect originals, that are clearly there, the reason may be, that your Aperture library needs repairing, see: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
I'd try to repair permissions and to repair the library, before trying to reconnect again.
Since you want to consolidate all originals in your Aperture library, I'd try to copy the originals that cannot be recoonected, to the same drive that holds yor aperture libryr and try to reconnect them there, then consolidate them from there. It can be, that the network connection of the NAS is not reliable enough.

  • Can't open downloaded files

Help! I can't open downloads from the internet or e-mail in preview. It seems to be happening with both pdfs and jpegs. It just started yesterday, and I'm not sure why. It gives me a message stating that the file may be corrupted or the wrong file type. The file type is not wrong, and it says this for files from any source even trusted ones. Any help is much appreciated!!

    HI,
Assuming you are using Safari... try maintenance.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons then cick Reset.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Empty Cache.
    Quit Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete all the sub-folders within that one.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete any of these files you have there:
    • Downloads.plist
    • History.plist
    • LastSession.plist
    Restart Safari.
