Can't locate originals; but have aliases for album

I can access aliases in Finder for photos from an album, but I cannot open them because I get the diaglog box saying "can't open because originals are missing" (that's paraphrasing, obviously). Are the aliases any good for recovering the originals? Or perhaps, is there some way to turn the aliases into photos without originals. I have NO idea where to locate the originals since Finder can't seem to do it!!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First here are two Apple KB documents that you should be aware of, particularly the second one:

Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder
Can you give us some additional information about your setup: model, RAM, HD size and free space, system version, iPhoto version, etc.
You should not be using the Finder to find image files. Open iPhoto, locate the album and double click on one of the images. If it opens up then you can access it thru iPhoto or export it to the desktop for further access by other applications. If it doesn't then that album and the alias links may have been damaged. The photos should be in the main library however. Note the file name in the album, go to the main organize window and look for it there. When you find it, double click on it to make sure it really exists.
Once you find you do have those photos in the library, delete the album and create a new one.

I would recommend performing the following steps in order to stabilize your iPhone.
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

if you bought Photoshop CC subscription then you dont need any serial no as it will activate the software using your Adobe ID and password.

If you're using a first generation iPod touch, it is up to date. The higher iOS versions require a newer model.

3500 songs in iTunes with exlamation points - iTunes can't locate files but they are there!

Hi,
Since a few weeks, 3500 of my 10000 iTunes songs have exclamation points. When I try to play a song, I get an error message stating that iTunes can't find the song. If I search for it, it's on my Mac. So the files are on my hard drive, except that iTunes can't find them.
As it's weeks of work to manually relink the songs to their location on my hard disk, is there anybody who could help me with this?

As you see the exclamation mark represents a missing link to the file and the subsequent unable to play the track.
If you select one of those files and look at the info(CMD I or Get Info) and go to the Summary tab that identifies where iTunes thinks it was stored. From here you can navigate in finder to that location or do a search for what iTunes states the filename is e.g. (01 Track 01.mp3).
So either the file is deleted, renamed or moved.

Your Office 2011, though a Microsoft product, is designed to work with OSX the Mac operating system. Any program/application ending .exe is an executable program for Windows. It will only work in Windows and is not part of or openable with Microsoft Office.
the application you want to open needs Windows - you have a couple of alternatives:
Open it on a Windows PC
Install a valid version of Windows via Bootcamp (or Parallels or VM Fusion) which will allow you to boot your Mac into Windows where it will function like a Windows PC and you can use it to run the application.
See if the manufacturers of MFI_Simulator have a Mac version available.
Please note that if you follow the second option, then you will need to purchase a copy of Windows (if you do not have one already). BootCamp is free (part of OSX) but Parallels and VM Fusion cost too. I see quite a few posts from people who buy Parallels and try to run the program under Parallels - this doesn't work - you need to install Windows as well.

Sounds like you used iTunes to sync them to your phone. You will need to use iTunes to unsync them - they can't be deleted on the phone.

I have a mess and can't locate originals?

I have a mess on my hands. After an attempt to back up old files from two laptops, I ended up dumping any photos I could get my hands on into a new iPhoto album. I told myself I would sort it out later. Ugh! Now, when I look into it I find all sorts of duplicate files and files with no name, just numbers, and general confusion.
The problem is I cannot find where the originals are. I know the general location - on an external firewire drive, within the library name. But it is so full of folders with cryptic names and numbers that its impossible for me to go into each and every one. This spans at least six years.
What I am looking for is a simple option to "show picture in finder." Or something like that. Can anyone advise?

You can Control-click on thumbnail in iPhoto and select Show File from the Contextual Menu. That will take you to the folder via the Finder where the file is located. However, do not delete or move them via the Finder because that will mess up the library and it's database. For a way to cull out some of the unwanted files see the following.
What version of iPhoto are you running? If it's iPhoto 6 then the original files should be located in the iPhoto Library/Originals folder and it's subfolders.
Are some of the photos you see in iPhoto small in pixel size, like 360 x 270 or so? If so then those are thumbnail files from the libraries that got imported as regular files. If that's the case, I suggest you start over with a new library as follows:
1 - move the Originals folder from the iPHoto Library folder to the top level of your external HD (if that's where you ultimately want your new library to be).
2 - Open the Originals folder and type Command-F.
3 - set the search criteria to the following:
Type = Image
Size is less than 100KB
4 - select the files found and drag to the Trash. Don't empty.
5 - launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, opt to create a new library. Name the library and save it to the external HD.
6 - drag the Originals folder on the external HD into the open iPhoto window.
This culls out the small thumbnail files that were imported originally as regular files and imports the remaining full sized image files into the new library.
Next you can run Duplicate Annihilator or iPhoto Diet to remove the duplicates that they are able to detect. There will be some that you may have to do by hand.
There is a way to find similar file, image wise, and remove those that you don't want by running iView MediaPro on the Originals folder before importing into the new library. if you're interested in how, post back and I'll layout the workflow.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You may wish to consider having individual accounts for them, each with their own balance. Purchases from each account can be copied to both libraries, and synced to either or both iPods. But the balance will be separate.

I have read of others having had this button dissapear. Apparently if you totally shut the pad down and reboot it will then reappear.

please someone help me... my itunes says that 900 of my purchased music songs could not be located... they say that the backup files could not be found..... i have looked throughout my computer and no where to be seen...........majority were purchased and some form cds. there was also movies and tv shows that arent showing up... what can i do to get these problems sorted out?

Sorry but I don't have an answer for you. However, I've been exp similar problems. I noticed that all songs that have listened to on my Ipod can no longer be located in Itunes. There is an exclamation mark next to the song and when I double click it, the error message reads "unable to locate file, would you like to locate". Lucky for me, I remember how I saved my music. However, this is a pain in the tushy to go through this everytime. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
