Can't log into account

Hello all! I have a problem!! When I log into my account it takes me to the my desktop but will not load my desktop icons. It then returns me to the log in screen. I can however log into other accounts. I set up a new admin but cannot access my old files because I do not have permission. I've tried repairing permission (which fails). I've tried repairing permission through the install disc and it stalls...all day. The Mac HD appears to be ok when I verify Disk. I've also tried to just do a reinstall but it fails to. Any help would be greatly appreaciated! I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.7 on a MacBook.
also, I was able to log into it once briefly and It displayed Finder Quit Unexpectedly.

This is just a guess, but it may work. First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. Log into a working admin account and launch the Terminal application. I'll assume that the name of the problem account is "fubar." Substitute the actual name for that one. In the Terminal window, very carefully enter the following command:
sudo rm ~fubar/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Try again to log in as fubar.

Can't log into account, blue screen

I shut down my computer earlier, and when i booted back up a couple hours later I cannot log into my main account (the admin/first account created). It goes to a light blue screen, and the cursor on screen responds to my mouse, but it just sits there until finally jumping back to the login window. I have tried disk permissions, shutting down, tried safe boot (but can't seem to get to the safe boot login window). I can log into the 3 other accounts fine, and can access everything through command line from in one of those accounts so at least my data is ok (also backing up time machine to an external) but I really don't want to reinstall the entire OS. I don't understand how this even happened, as I didn't do anything any differently than normal. Is there any other trick that I haven't stumbled across that might fix this? I want to make sure that I don't jump the gun if this has happened before and is easily fixed.

Well I did a silly thing - I installed the Unsanity APE on Leopard 10.5.2. A beta. And a warning.
Did I care? No, betas just mean uninstalling if they don't work right? Nope.
I go the interminable blue screen, couldn't login, couldn't solve it via Terminal. All I deserved! How you mock me with your betas. HOw I mock myself by using RAID 0 for speed. Luckily for all my reckless grappling with the latest thing and an obsession with speed, I use Super Duper Drive clone, idisk and mail backups weekly - So I was up and re-installed in a couple of hours. But oh dear me, what a lesson to learn.
SO, perhaps you did do something insignificant that caused it to fall over and blue screen, and perhaps APE didn't cause my problems - But I can't recall having so much trouble with any previous OS X release ever. In fact I can't ever remember having any trouble since 10.0.
No matter, I have decided to use a test machine for meddling with stuff now, and leave my MacPro eating the food it knows and loves without 3rd party additives. And I suppose - That's fine too.
And then last night I caught myself looking at some hastily written 3rd party Ati graphics drivers and wondering if that might be an idea. And then I threw a bucket of water over my head and calmed down again.
We probably did something to muck up our systems, I'm just glad we have archive and install, CCC, Super Duper and all the other safety nets that doesn't make using a MAc like the heart stopping use of a PC when you're just faced with a completely broken machine and nowhere to start.
Oh, and no it doesn't answer your question, just a ramble in terms of forum solidarity.

After clicking "sign in" at the bottom of the apps main page, it brought up another menu where I clicked "Choose existing Apple ID". After pressing this the menu disappeared and nothing happened. I tried this multiple times and received the same result each time. I tried the other available option of creating a new AP ID to log in with and that one worked perfectly fine. I am clueless as to why the log in for me is either not able to load or just completely blocking me from getting back into my iTunes account on my phone. Not only can I not listen to the music I currently have, but I cannot log in to purchase the new music that I wanted to with my unused iTunes gift cards

I have the same problem too and tried alot of things like time zone , restarting or changing DNS of wifi connection to 8.8.8.8 still nothing happens .. !!

I have a Mac mini running the latest version of OS X and Server. Been running fine and flawlessly. However, I had a strange problem with the iCloud preferences panel crashing when I tried to access it, so I rebooted. Now I can not log into the system with any accounts. My master admin account (along with all the others) gives me the error:
You are unable to login to the user account "abcdefg" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."
I am able to see the server from other macs and I can log into it using the same account, but it only shows me a few of the shared folders I have access to but NOT to my main directories.
Rebooting into Command-R and doing a disk utility, I try and repair permission on that drive and get a bunch of errors like:
ACL found but not expected on Users
Repaired "Users"
ACL found but not expected on Users/.localized
Repaired "Users/.localized"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared
Repaired "Users/shared"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared/.localized
Repaired "Users/Shared/.localized"
Permissions repair complete.
But rebooting is no joy...same problem. Any idea what is going on or how to repair it? Should I do a time machine restore? Complete new OS X install? Any idea what is causing this or how to salvage it?

Got everything to re-install and it worked fine...for a few hours. Then I came in to find ALL of my network users deleted. Just GONE. Then found out the Open Directory was trashed and was unable to open, recover or restore from a backup. Looks like I may have a bad drive here.
I installed a new drive in the system, re-installed and so far (for a couple of hours anyway) the system seems to be working and stable.

ICloud child account - Can't log into Apple ID or iCloud with child account

Nightmare! Created three kids accounts. Loaded the ID on iTouchs.
Then went to https://appleid.apple.com/account/home to change info... couldn't log in.
I also couldn't log into iCloud with the new ID's.
After a call to apple (no help) and thinking real hard (and wasting a day)....
The reason is because when I entered the new ID into iTouch (the ID was orginally created on my Iphone)... I had restrictions turned on in the iTouch.
I disabled all restrictions. Waited a few minutes. Then was able to log into both sites.
Then put restrictions back on on the iTouch. Still able to log into both sites.
Apple failed to mention that small detail.
Hope this helps someone else.
PS. Apple told me that the kids id was not able to be used as an email? or log into iCloud? NOT!
It has full rights as any other ID (other than purchases).

Apple discontinued it on June 30, 2012. Many of its services are now provided by iCloud; anything which connects specifically to MobileMe won't work.

I can't log into my main account with my password, always gets me back to the log-in screen after upgrading to 10.7.5

After my routine software update to 10.7.5, I can't log into my main log-in id. Whenever I put my password in, it takes me back to the log-in screen. I'm sure of the password not being wrong because i can access my other admin accounts from which i changed the password. All my files and data is in that id. Please help. Thank you.

The Apple IDs from @mac.com and @me.com (Older MobileMe and more recent iCloud Names) are also Valid AIM Screen names.
Any other sort of Apple ID is not a Valid AIM Name.
A Google ID that is associated with Google Mail Account (And has "Talk" enable on your Google Settings) can be used in iChat as Jabber Name/ID. (Google Run Jabber server).
Jabber and AIM are different IM Services and it is not easy or straight forward to add Buddies from one Service to the Buddy List of another. (As A Starting point consider it "impossible")
iChat 4 and 5 have links to the registration page of @Mac.com here with a "Get an iChat Account" button in the add (Account) screen (You select @mac.com or MobileMe and then press the Button - Choosing AIM and then pressing the button used to lead to the AIM registration page but AIM moved their page).
Apple IDs can be any valid email (or an @mac.com or iCloud registration)
Therefore you could make a Google ID into an Apple ID.
However this will not be a valid AIM Screen Name the way @mac.com or MobileMe/iCloud ones are.

Why do I get iCal error messages on my iMac saying that it can't log into my Gmail account and that the password may be incorrect - when the password is correct?

I recently changed my Google email password and now I keep getting the bouncing iCal icon telling me that it can't log into my gamil account. When I go to calendar.google.com as instructed and enter the new password it does not solve the problem.

I can't log into any of my online accounts after emptying my cache.

Ever since I reset Safari to empty my cache, history and such, I can not log into any of my online accounts,such as Safari, eBay,etc... I enter my username and password and click the sign in button and the page goes back to the log in page. I don't know what's going on with it.
Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, please let me know how I can resolve this problem. Thanks!

Sounds like you broke the connection between your Password list and Keychain Access. What you may have to do is reestablish those passwords. First step would be to go to keychain access and remove the related entries. Then go back to Safari and access each site. After entering your password information, a prompt ought to appear about keeping the password on file. Select "yes".
