Can't log on to wireless router; rejects password from my iBook

Hello Mac-using friends,
Here's a challenging mystery that I hope you can help me solve!
I have an iBook G3 running Panther 10.3.9 and I'm trying to access my D-Link router, model DIR-600, with no success. When I try to log on to my network, I keep getting a message that I have not entered the correct password. I have verified that I have the correct password, by logging on 2 other computers to this wireless network. I have verified that this iBook can access the network by connecting the iBook to the router using an ethernet cable. I have verified that this iBook's Airport card is working by taking it to other locations with wi-fi access and have connected just fine.
If anyone has a suggestion I would be most grateful!
--David Orr, in Fayetteville, Arkansas

Hi, David. Is it possible that you are using WPA2 encryption? If so, that won't work with the iBook's original AirPort Card. WEP or WPA1 should work.

Also, sometimes a router is set to g and/or n standards, and needs to be reset to mixed mode so that the iBook's 802.11b card can access the wireless network.

  • Can't log in with wireless router

I have successfully used my WRT54GS v.2 wireless router for a year of two. Tonight I am attempt to connect and cannot. I am using for username and admin for password, per Lynksis instructions (and what has worked in past). It apparently is not recognizing these because after a couple of attempts I get a 401 error message. I have tried Lynksis online chat on a different computer. They had me reset the device, which didn't help. I have also been disconnected from them 3 times, so that's not too helpful. Thoughts anyone??

reset the router for a minute and do a power cycle...try to access the router again..if still facing the same issue , open IE >> tools >>internet options >> click content tab and click the tabs clear forms and clear password

Unfortunately you have taken an Apple product outside of the area where Apple currently does business. There isn't legally a way around this. Apple cannot license apps to you where you currently live.

  • Hi ! I got an iPhone 5 from someone who I don't know the real owner. Then I wanna change iCloud on it, but I don't know the password of owner. How can I log out that iCloud account without password ? Please help me, thank you

Thank you, please help me !

How can I log out that iCloud account without password ?
    You can't.
Return the phone to whoever you bought it from and get a refund. Without the previous owners password you will not be able to enter your own iCloud acount, and when you update the phone, you won't be able to re-activate it as it will be locked to the previous owners account.
You should've checked the phone was not locked to someone else's iCloud account BEFORE buying it.

  • Can you use a Epsom wireless printer to print from an iPad

Can you use an epson wireless printer to print from an iPaad

    Yes.
Certain models are air print compliant, check your manual.
If not I'm not sure if Epson  has an app, but there are third party printer apps such as Print n Share, Print Central and Printopia that should work for you (just to name the three most commonly recommended, there are plenty of apps so read the reviews and pick the one best for you)

  • I upgraded to ios5 and now I can't log into my ipad with my password.  How can I fix this?, I upgraded to ios5 and now I can't log into my ipad with my password.

I upgraded to ios5 and now I can't log into my Ipad with the password I had set and been using for the last 2 years.  What do I need to do to get logged in?

You will have to format your iPad.  Looks like that's the only way to reset your password.
    Formatting your iPad
Turn off your iPad, turn on iTunes, hold large button down on ipad while connecting the white ipad cord to your Pc.
When the window prompts format iPad,let the button go and press format button on iTunes.
That is how I solved the same problem.

  • Why can't I delete a user name and password from saved passwords in iOS 7?

Why can't I delete a user name and password from saved passwords in iOS 7? I found them and they are not anything that I am familiar with? They are from a t-com.de. I have been to Germany in the last month. Not sure if there is any association. Any thoughts?

You found them ... where?  Are they in Safari somewhere?
If so, do Settings > Safari > Clear History and Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies and Data
If that doesn't clear them (and they are from Safari), try Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data and clear that area.

  • 10.5.2 and now can't log on to my router

I updated to 10.5.2 and now I can't log on to my wireless router. I tried reentering the password but still didn't work. I'm now logged on to someone's unprotected router.

It's been a bit of a journey but I'm back online with my own service again. I read the posts of all the other people having the same problem and then contacted Applecare. I told them that after I installed the update to 10.5.2 I couldn't access my Verizon Westtell wireless router. The person at Applecare said that this router was too old and that there was no way, software or firmware, to fix the problem. My only options were to go back to 10.5.1 or, not said but implied, buy a new modem/router. Needles to say I was not a happy camper with this answer.
So I continued searching. I went to the Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard forum here. I saw that this problem was not limited to Macbook Pro but other users who had the Westell modem/router and Verizon seervice and upgraded to 10.5.2. There I saw a mention to go to MacRumors at: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=239062
and there I saw this post from user NewMacUser1000:
+"Throughhisgrace: We had all of the same problems you did. We did the following for our new imac, and everything worked just like advertised. 1) downloaded (directly) the file "download.verizon.net/cpe/mac/modemfirmware/Westell_327/a90-327w.upg" to whatever machine your modem is hooked up to. 2) Open your modem "192.168.1.1" 3) click the "Maintenance" button and the "update device" in the drop down menu 4) click the "Local Update Now" button 5) Select the location you stored the downloaded file from step 1 6) Wait until everything is done (took a few minutes for us) Hope this works for you. Good luck and thanks to the others in this thread that provided the firmware update location."+
I did that but still had trouble so I called Verizon online help and they helped me get back online with no OS downgrade or new equipment purchase. Now I'm a happy camper.

  • IPod Touch (and iPhone) can't find Belkin N Wireless Router

I spent over an hour looking for an answer to this problem today and accidently found a solution - so am posting the answer.
Have a 2 year old Belkin N Wireless Router (model F5D8236-4v1) with SSID broadcasting on and WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK) security selected.
All the Windows laptops in the house could see the wireless SSID and could successfully log in after entering the WPA/WPA2 password.
Both iPod Touch and iPhone 3GS could NOT see the SSID. Also entering the wireless router IP address directly instead of the SSID did NOT work.
After an hour of looking for solutions on-line, including:
    - Tried no security
    - Tried WEP 64 and 128 bit security
then stumbled across a thread in a forum where someone referred to changing a "-" (dash) in an SSID name to a character. So tried this.
The old SSID name includes spaces - "name name1 name2". I deleted the spaces, and the problem was solved.
This Belkin router comes with a default name of BelkinN_WirelessXXXXXX, but does not say in the online help to NOT use spaces in the SSID name. And again, the Windows laptops could see the wireless Router while it had the SSID name INCLUDING the spaces in the name.
Hope this saves at least one person going through the same wasted hour.

Click on the blue arrow to the right of the network name, if IP address starts with "169." ,restart your router. It should connect properly after your router reboots in a minute or two.

  • Can I Add a Second Wireless Router to my Airport Extreme?

I have an Airport Extreme 802.11n, (the square one).
I just bought a new wireless Epson All-in-One, the Artisan 700.
Even though this is a brand new model, Epson foolishly built it as 802.11g, and not 802.11n. Who knows what they were thinking. 802.11n has been around long enough for them to have incorporated it into their newest models... Oh, well.
Anyway, I understand that any 802.11g element on my 802.11n network will slow everything down to 802.11g speed. I obviously do not want that to happen, but I do not want to lose the convenience of wireless printing and scanning.
So here is what I want to do, and I'd like to know if it will work.
Can I buy a cheap 802.11g wireless router, and plug it into one of the three <---> ethernet outputs on my Airport Extreme, and have a second wireless network, providing both internet and wireless printing/scanning at 802.11g, while preserving the speed of the Airports 802.11n? The idea would be to stay connected to the Airports 802.11n network except when printing, then switch to the 802.11g network.
Alternatively, I imagine if that will not work, I could just set up a cheap 802.11g wireless router, not connected to the Airport Extreme, or the internet, but solely there to provide me with wireless printing.
Any help, or other ideas is greatly appreciated!

Yes, this is known as a "dual band" network.
Setting up a "dual band" network is described in the Designing AirPort Networks document, starting on page 48.

But some other routers I can connect to.

  • Can TC directly replace my wireless router?

I have just purchaes a 2nd hand TC gen 1 500gb it come as unit only no instructions etc....
does it directly replace my wireless router (plug and play)? if so i do in need to reinstall my aol broadband?
do i connect it to my wireless router?
    any help appreciated

Yes. It replaces all routers. In fact if you use the Time Capsule you can disconnect any other routers you have. You would connect it directly to the Ethernet port on your cable/DSL modem.

  • Can I use my WRT54G wireless router as a signal range extender?

Hello, I have a couple wireless routers in my home, and basically I guess I can only use one as the main wireless router.
I'd really like to know if I can use one, specifically my linksys WRT54G wireless G router as just a range extender for the wireless signal from the main wireless router. It would save me a bunch so that I wouldn't need to go buy an entirely new device for this. If there is ANY way.
    please help
    thank you

You can connect as many WRTs as you like to your network if you wire them together. They create a big roaming network then (or several different networks if you want that). You have to set up the "internal" WRTs as access points, though, i.e. you don't connect them through the Internet port to your network but through a numbered LAN port. Also make sure to turn off the DHCP server on the internal WRTs and to assign them a free LAN IP address in your LAN (usually 192.168.1.2,3,4 will work).
In a roaming network there is no main router. All wireless routers are the same in this respect. Your "main" router is only defined by the fact, that it hosts the internet connection. But from the side of the wireless is does not matter. For a roaming network, make sure to assign all access points the identical SSID and wireless security settings. The only difference in the wireless settings should be the channels, where you should use different ones if possible. 1,6, and 11 are non-overlapping and thus are best to be used.
O.K. This was with a wired connection. If you actually need a wireless bridge, i.e., connect to access points through a wireless connection without any wired connection between them, then you have two options:
    1. Buy access points like the WAP54G or wireless bridges like the WET54G. They have can be configured for wireless bridging. A WRT54G with standard Linksys firmware does not have this capability.
    2. Get a 3rd party firmware for your WRT54G if there is one available for your hardware version. I think not all hardware versions support 3rd party firmware. Check on the label underneath the router to see what hardware version you have. Search for "WRT54G" on wikipedia. You'll find an article about the different hardware versions, which 3rd party firmware projects exist and where to download it. 3rd party firmware usually adds functions like wireless bridging to a WRT. I know HyperWRT+Thibor works well on my WRT54Gv2. Remember, however, that uploading a 3rd party firmware will void your warrenty...

  • Airport express can't connect to Linsys wireless router with security wpa2

Hi all, I have posted a question previously regarding trying to connect my airport express to my existing network, a Linsys wireless router....
I have now found that if I disable the wireless security (wpa2 personal) on my router the A/E connects though as soon as I enable security again the A/E drops out. I have checked the network name and password and all are definately correct.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

Unfortunately I have tried absolutely everything and no go I have just discovered that I can still use it though by having it as a wired Lan connection to my Cisco router then the laptop wirelessly connects to the A/E through the router so not all bad just had to wire a lan point from one room to the other.
After talking with Apple support they say it's pretty hit and miss with what different routers the A/E will and wont connect with...
So save yourself a lot of heartache and just use as a wired connection
    Hope this helps
