Can't login after 10.5 install on G4 PM, all this threads, still no clue!!

Hi all,
After reading numerous threads, still I cannot find an answer!
I installed Leopard on my Powermac g4 1.25 DP but I am not able to log in. I can only select the user "other". I have tried resetting the root password and tried to login with username "root" and password "what i previously selected" , but it did not work. All it does all the time is "wiggle" and return to the login screen.
Is it helpful to do a reinstall of Leopard using Archive and Install?? I read this solution works for iMacs.... Does it work for a Powermacs too??
Is it helpful to also change the "user" password (and not only the System administrator (root) password)???
Is it helpful to revert to Tiger and change my password there, before installing Leopard??
When I reset a password in the utility menu on the install disk, I type and retype the password. Should I then click "reset" or "safe"???
I hope anyone here can solve my problem or at least answer a few of my questions. Thanks in advance!!
Thomas

Greetings,
You might try to boot the machine with the installation disk, and after the screen where it asks for the language click on the arrow and wait until you see the menu bar at the top of the screen. It may take a few seconds to a minute.
Go to Utilities and there is a reset password selection. Use it to select the user you want to reset the password for. You should then be able to reboot and sign and take care of the other accounts. I've had to use this a time or two at work - it should work in your situation.
After you log in do a Repair Permissions. You can also do it from the install disk, if you still have some issues after the reset password procedure.
Good Luck - Cheers,
M.

  • Can't login after installing Oracle 10g on XP Service Pack 1

Hi, I am completely new to using oracle and cannot login after completing the install process. I followed the article:
    http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/oracle/115320/3
in order to install and unlock the relevant accounts (such as "SCOTT"). But I keep getting the following error message when attempting to login (at both the "http://myservername/em" and "http://myservername/isqlplus" urls):
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
After a few of those errors I also get an understandable "account locked" error message.
Can anyone suggest fields for "username", "password" and "contact identifier" that might enable me to login?! And why can't I use the "Global Database Name" and password that I supplied during the installation process?
oh, and does it make a difference that I'm using "Parallels Desktop" to run windows from my mac?
Thanks very much for any help, because I really need to get this running quickly!

Open SQL*Plus ... all learning of Oracle should start at the SQL*Plus command line.
Assuming you are logged in to the operating system as the same user that installed the Oracle software on SQL*Plus in the Start -> Programs menu.
Under username type "/ as sysdba" without the double-quotes and leave the other two dialog box fields empty.
    Now enter:
    SQL> alter user scott account unlock identified by tiger;
SQL conn scott/tigerIf this works you need to proceed by getting a beginning Oracle book. The one's offered by Oracle Press are among the best for your level or preferably find a class personal mentor in your area.

But XP SP1? Why? SP2 is the minimum for a system with some level of security.
In the future always post a complete version number (3 decimal places) as well as, as you did, complete error messages. That will help you get good answers.

After uninstalling and installing several times, Java plug-in is still undetected. Support suggested I open up the control panel and click update but there isn't such an option. The advance tab, there aren't any options to enable or disable plug-ins.

If you're running Java 7, then in System Preferences > Java > Java Control Panel in the Security tab there is a check box to enable Java in your browser. To check for update go to the Update tab.

  • Can not login after re-installing leopard

I had an error when running disk utilities and could not repair disk. I reloaded 10.5 and now can not log in. I did not have a password and it will not let me log in. I used the help topics from apple and went through the steps to reset users. When I typed in the launchct1 ... it stated that command not found. I am new to Apple and switched when VISTA came out. Can anyone have any suggestions?

I'm assuming that you are following the directions in this Knowledge Base article:
Mac OS X 10.5: Unable to log in after an upgrade install

If that is the case the last character of the command is the letter "l" not the number "1".

  • Can't login after deleting a standard user on directory utility.

My laptop was rebooted in an apple service center, they made a user account for me to use. I backed up my old user with migration using time machine. I changed the administrator to my old user account and tried to delete the other user but it kept on returning. After searching on how to delete user, I found a tutorial that promted me to delete that account using the directory utility found in Systems/Library/CoreServices.
When I tried to log in again, my computer can't find the administrator user. The log in screen is empty and when I type the admin name and password, it would just load and nothing. On the password box, the little circle would just go round and round. Please help!

    Hi RHermann,
    I have some question.
Does the user use a network account for login and how many users are affected by this problem?
Did that happened with a local user account on the same PC, too?
Which OS is running on your PC? Windows 7 64 Bit?
Which server system do you use for the User server?
Do you get any problem reports if you login after uninstall DIAdem?
Can you tell me which HW you use? Dell HP …
I hope that information will make it possible to detect your problem. :-)

  • Can't login after it reset my pw?

so my macbook, which is all updated and stuff, does this wierd thing where if i set it to automatically logout or request the password at login, it will reset the password for me, and then i can't log back into my computer with my original password until someone force-changes it...unfortunately i can't find my friend who changed it for me last time, and i really want to use my computer again...
does anyone have any suggestions for me? ive tried to change it with passwd <username>, but my username has a space in it and it pops up as an error...
i got it to change a password, but it created a second admin account as well, and i'm really confused about that. on the list of users, my account still exists, but i can't login to it...and right now it isn't even letting me access the passwd thing, i'm kinda worried, please help me...
    thank you!

  • Can't login after software update

I did a routine software update that required a restart for one of the two items(admit to not knowing what two updates). Now I can only login in as "Test" - not my regular login name. The password is correct (no screen shake). I put in my password, the screen goes blue as if a successful login, then the original login screen reappears. Any suggestions or, better yet, solutions?
    8995W

it sounds like theres a login item preventing you from getting into your admin account. try holding down the shift key as you log into your account and continue holding it down until you see the dock. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh939.html
if you do get in using that you will need to go to system preferences from the blue apple, then into accounts. in there select login items and remove all the login items. that should resolve it.

  • Can't login after fresh installing gnome using gdm 3.2 [SOLVED]

I don't know if this topic was already solved, I hope someone can help me about this. I have a fresh install of arch linux (just yesterday) and installed gnome and gnome-extra packages. As usual, I go with the procedure of editing my .xinitrc (exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch gnome-session), rc.conf (...dbus networkmanager...), inittab (runlvl 5, x:5......gdm). After a reboot, gdm screen appeared, I can't find my account, then there were two choices, "Sign in" and "Not listed..."). I clicked Not listed, then entered my user and password, after that, it responded: Authentication failure/failed... or something like that. I tried it again and it's the same. Temporarily, I'm using startx or slim (depends on my mood). Can anyone help me?
    here's my gdm's 0.log and 0-greeter.log respectively:

when asked for uuid/uid?... I put 100. I thought any random number would do...
    look in /etc/pam.d/gdm-password
in arch and in general >= 1000 are  normal users, < 1000 system users
is that how it works? can i change it from 100 to 1000 or just make a new one?
    anyways i'll look to it.

  • Oracle XE - Just can't login after install

    On Lubuntu 10.10, I did:
    echo "deb http://oss.oracle.com/debian unstable main non-free" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
    apt-get update ; apt-get install oracle-xe
That brings me Oracle XE 10.2.0.1. And then:
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure
Everything looks ok, including the password prompt and so. After that, I go to http://127.0.0.1:port/apex, and when I try to login with the username "SYSTEM", and the password I just typed. I get a "Invalid Login Credentials" error.
    I also tried:
    sqlplus /nolog
    CONNECT
    [ .. login and password .. ]
    ERROR:
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Setting the environment variables also don't help.
    sh oracle_env.sh
Well.. I just don't know what's happening. I repeated this procedure trying to find peculiar things, but always got the same results. Also tried some other users as "SYS". useless...
    Thanks in advance.

  • Can't login after Mavericks install

After installing Mavericks and using it for awhile I shutdown my MacBook AIr 2013.
Now on restart I get to login screen but after entering credentials screen flashes and return me to login screen.
Tried resetting VRAM and booting to safe mode but no change.
    Any one solve this problem?

Had the same issue... I believe mine was because of my eikon fingerprint reader and the Authentec Truesuite software. see this discussion... https://discussions.apple.com/message/23468812#23468812
I'm doing a scorched earth reinstall now!

  • Can't login after installing Leopard

I just installed 10.5 onto an intel Mac Mini from the DVD. Everything went smooth until i restarted. the only user is now "other". It is asking me to login and no username or password is working. I followed the help I found on the site and reset the password with the reset password utility on the desk - still nothing. I have tried lots of different combinations including "System Administrator (root)" name (in many different combinations!). Nothing is working yet.

what kind of install did you do? an upgrade and install, an archive and install or an erase and install?
what help did you follow? what exactly did you do? if it's showing "other" at the login screen it must mean you activated root password from the install DVD, is that right? when you try to log in as root you need to enter "root" (no quotes) as the user name, not "System administrator(root)".

  • Can't login after 10.6.7 update

    Hey guys and gals.
I just updated to 10.6.7 and now that it has finished installing and restarted I can't seem to log in.
First a window pops up and tells me that my home folder protected by FileVault didn't open and needs to be repaired.
So I click OK to repair it.
But then it gives me a message that it's not able to log in at this time because an error occurred.
Needless to say. I'm kinda in a mild heart/panic attack.
So any help would be nice. Thanks.

One way you could be able to read/write to the encrypted disk image from the account with the issue is to Enable Root after enabling root, log out, on the login menu chose other so your prompted to type in a user name and password. Login as "root" with what ever password you set for root.
be very careful not to delete, rename or move any thing while logged in as root. you could do some thing that would cause you to need the install disks to get your computer working again.
At this point you should be able to go to the hard drive, double click on the Users folder, double click on the folder with the effected accounts name. And double click on the spare image in that folder. You should be prompted to type in the master file vault password, OR the old account password. Try bother, see if the image will mount.

  • BBM 7 Problems - Can't restore after OS Re-install

I had to reinstall my operating system due to problems I was having.  I had BBM 7 on my phone.
When I restored everything, it all seemed to work fine... then I went to BBM, opened the app and for an hour now I've been stuck in this loop without anything happening ... even going so far as to selectively restoring BBM from my back up file.  Here's a screen image of what I am seeing.  I can't even get into the app.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'd suggest this, in this order.
Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. Then, try the BBID login again and allow BBM to restore.
Remove BBM7 by deleting it from your BlackBerry at Options > Device > Applications Administration. Scroll and find it and delete, and reboot again as described above. Then, after reboot, go to www.blackberry.com/bbm and download BBMessenger again and login your BlackBerryID. (I'd recommend doing this while connected to a WiFi source, but it shouldn't matter, just make it faster).
